speaking of ships i was sold on marco/ax entirely by "lies agreed upon" by cavatica, they do some great worldbuilding with andalite culture and biology too
Oh my gosh, right!?!?!? I love Lies Agreed Upon by @acavatica — I have to reread it now that you reminded me of it.

Update to an older sketch of mine, found here!
Marco's face is still looking a bit weird to me, but it's 5:30 AM and I'm not sure what else I can do right now to fix it. I'll definitely come back to this later.

My favorite part of Ax/Marco ships is the idea of Marco seducing Tobias's one objectively cool uncle, and Tobias just having to deal with it.
Like...
Tobias: <Could you maybe not make out with my best friend and uncle in daylight hours? With my eyesight it's like I'm right there next to you. Or at least stop using my meadow, I have to eat here.>
Marco: "Sure, but counter point: Could you stop bird-flirting with my best friend's first cousin while you judge me? Or do you expect me to belive that you'd be that relaxed if that was an actual Eagle flying next to you? Hi Xena! Hows it going Rachel? At this rate we're dangerously close to evey animorph winding up related to Jake by some mariage network of hillbilly Hapsburg complexity."

the skrit na are peak animorphs worldbuilding actually.
yes, the grays actually exist.
yes, they actually ride around in flying saucers.
yes, they actually abduct people. cows too.
yes, they actually dissect people and then put them back together and let them go. sometimes they put them in a zoo instead.
none of the other aliens know what their deal is. they have a larval stage where they look like giant cockroaches. one time they somehow obtained the most dangerous weapon in the entire universe and just threw it in their junk drawer next to a mustang convertible and a case of dr pepper. they are directly in the middle of a galactic war and have survived untouched because neither side cares enough about them. i don't think any of the main cast besides ax even know they exist?
every sci-fi series should do this. this is awesome.

Animorphs #11: The Forgotten thoughts (pt. 1):
Jake describes shrinking into falcon morph as "dwindling down like a fast-burning candle" (p. 14). You okay there, kid?
"Tobias came zooming up alongside us, zipping around like he'd been born a bird" (p. 16). I mean... y'ain't wrong, Big Jake.
This is one of those books that hinges on the whole idea that things break, even for space-people. Ships crash, because crashes happen. Random weapons malfunctions are a fact of life, if you carry weapons around. Shit happens. Even to alien invaders.
The whole first part of this book lends weight to my hypothesis that Jake is the most, like, aware of being mentally ill. He kind of just accepts that he's hallucinating, chalks it up to "Things I wish I'd never seen... things I'd done I wish I couldn't remember" and then goes back to planning the mission. Marco is the most aware the others are falling apart, that "One of us would snap" (#5), Cassie's the most conscious of the shifting team dynamics, and of course Tobias is the identified patient. But it's Jake who most openly accepts okay, I'm losing my mind; I'll worry about that later. "The good thing about rushing is it didn't give me too much time to think," according to Jake, "thinking meant worry, and worry gets in the way of getting things done" (p. 33).

One great thing about Animorphs is that in their own special way, each of the crew is both the smartest AND dumbest member of the group

Picture Idea
Making a note here so I don't forget it. Ax has pinned Marco to the fridge in the kitchen, and says something like <I think I found the snack I wanted.>
Then pauses and goes <Wait, is that an appropriate use of the word 'snack'?>
And Marco is just standing there in disbelief, like how can this nerd go from sexy to absolutely stupid in three seconds

The story of Tobias' parents are SO tied up with their identities as an alien and a mortal human, I kept rotating Tobias around in my head trying to figure out how I could make him a demigod.
Then I remembered I'm dealing with the Greek Gods and the solution became crystal clear.
Even if it's by way of second-hand DNA, Apollo will absolutely adopt Tobias, no questions asked. Red-tailed hawks can have a loving, attentive parent & a bunch of sunshine siblings. As a treat.
