I just realized I can just grab the next jumping spider I see and put it in a terrarium and just. Have a pet spider. The only thing stopping me rn is that its the middle of winter and a lack of information, but that gives me plenty of time to study! Its just gonna kill me waiting to actually Do Anything abt it (except clean my room so there's less chance of them getting lost agsjsgj)

Anyways seasonal depression hits different when you finally realize you wanna be an entomologist but I was able to find a good sized jar and some mesh table liner stuff to use for the top, so it'll be nice and easy to mist it down and provide plenty of air for the little baby!

I have free will and I will use it to Aquire Bugs >:]

Spiders are such strange and wonderful things, like.. they can look wondeful, cute, pleasant!... than you see one and you now are afraid of going outside... atleast i see it as so

I love spiders with my whole being and have my entire life, so for me it’s hard to understand a fear so extreme!!!

I mean to some extent I get it; some spiders can look a bit scary. And tarantulas got big ol spooky fangs and what not. But the more I learn about spiders the more I’m baffled how they became so widely feared. I mean there’s about ~50,000 species of spiders known to us right now (and that number climbs literally every day), and you wanna know how many of those are considered “medically significant” (aka can cause a fair amount of damage to people)?

Like that’s an insanely low number. So it just leaves me wondering. How the Hell did spiders end up so scary to people? How did we get to a point where arachnophobia is just so widespread that at this point it’s almost more abnormal not to be afraid of spiders?

This isn’t any attack or anything against people who are arachnophobic - hopefully it’s not coming across that way!! - this whole thing is just super interesting to me. From like. The perspective of me, someone who sees spider and goes Please for the love of god let me hold it

well anyway. Anon you should look deeply into the eyes of a contemplative jumping spider. Because it will look back at you with just as much curiosity
