Random highlights from Fanime 2024:

* This Sonic fan went up during karaoke and shouted, “Before I begin, I just wanna say that Shadow the Hedgehog is a bitch ass motherfucker!” And then he said the same thing after he finished singing.

* There was some guy who sang “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo. He butchered the song so much that my sister was wondering if he even knew what he was singing.

* A random Yor Forger cosplayer went up to me and said that the Christian protestor at the event was there since the beginning of Fanime. I just wanna say that I did not ask for clarification, she literally just walked up to me unprompted. My sister claims she was feeling me lol.

* My sister and cousins took pictures with Jollibee, a couple of furry cosplayers, and Jesus Christ.

* We attended the Spy x Family cosplay meetup. Loid and Yor were the most popular. Anya was popular, but noticeably less than her parents. There were a couple of Sylvias and Frankys. There were two Yuris. Bond, Damian, Henderson, and Fiona were represented by only one cosplayer each. The Damian cosplayer got the biggest praise since he was an actual child (my estimate is either 8 or 9 years old).

* While we were attending the SxF meet-up, this old guy was singing “Feel Like Making Love” behind us. That became a running joke with my family since the old guy was really hitting the chorus (“FEEL LIKE MAKING LOVE!”).

I am back :D (the anon who recently asked you about the idea of reader being mother to the 6 sons in mashle)

I just that the necklaces would probably annulate the magic of the owner too, but reader doesn't really care about it since nobody in her family had magic before (if we don't count the sons). But, since it's a familiar relic (or something like that), naturally her sons also would have their own four necklaces at some point. Neither of them use them, it's not beneficial for them, but they do keep it with them since they see it as being closer to their mother. I also thought about how the smallest area in which the necklaces work would be around the core of the necklaces, to protect it from being destroyed by magic.

I'm sure at least some of them (especially Domina) would be jealous of Mash for being a lackmagic, at some point, since they think about it as the fact that Mash resembles their mother the most (no matter how their mother looks physically). Pops would be so weirded out when four necklaces appeared in Mash's hand in the period of 1 year (I think it would be better if they didn't appeare at the same time?) And Mash would have 0 idea about why or from where (at first he thought that Pops was the responsible for it). I think it would also be convenient that the necklaces wouldn't break forever unless all four are broken in the spam of a certain amount of time. If the time passed, but other necklaces wouldn't be destroyed, the broken would be repaired by itself. I imagine the necklaces being just a square with a beautiful pattern inside and a chain holding it by one of the edges (with a time of hook of the edge?) and since it's a familiar relic, it would probably have more antique style (baroque? Or maybe the renaissance?). The sons would probably treasure it deeply, especially since when their mother fell into a coma. Also, because of the background of the reader (the mother) I believe that the necklaces would only left their owner to lift them. Also, the more damage the owner receives the deeper the necklaces (the core/the square) will go into the owners skin (where the heart is located) as if to protect them better, since if the necklaces break (the four of them in the certain amount of time) the owner either dies or suffers a lot of damage. It doesn't burn or anything, tho.

Since Doom is the nicest of the siblings (not counting Mash and Domina's change in behavior) I would say it's because he's the oldest and has been with their mother the longest. I also believe they (the sons) would visit their mother, no matter if she's already in the coma or not. Epidem would be so obsessed with his pudding because mother "introduced" it to him, idk. Fanim would definitely enjoy the freedom so much because his mother always talked about it and how they always should be free (he got his own version of freedom but nvm). Delisaster likes to party so much because mother said that you never know what will happen next and if there's will be food on the table tomorrow (because of how bad her background is) so they should enjoy their lives at the fullest while they can (she would try to somehow ignore that she married a power hungry man, but it was for her own best). Domina would anticipate the day mother wakes up because all his older brothers told him about how kind and nice and beautiful mother is. Mash wouldn't even know about the existence of his mother (spoilers ahead) since he just randomly disappeared from there. If mother wakes up the day of the eclipse without a clue of what is going on (her husband trying to hunt down their youngest son just to take his heart and be immortal), first of all, all the sons that would be there at that time (depending on when exactly mother wakes up, but we'll take the time after they fought the first four visionaries, but before Dot, Finn and the gang arrived there to fight) would be delightful and shocked (imagine Innocent zero manipulating them to do the horrible things they did because "It will wake up mother") that mother finally woke up. Reader would try to get their head around what is going on and how much time passed while the four of them are sitting or rather standing around her bed where she was laying for all this time. Imagine if when Doom is fighting Mash, Doom says something like "You came in the perfect time, mother just woke up" while Mash doesn't have the slightest idea who this "mother" is. While they're fighting Doom explains a bit more and Mash is just like 🧍‍♀️. If Domina sees her when he there or if he hears Innocent zero talk about her awakening while fighting him he would be so shocked and probably feel slightly betrayed because "what do you mean she wakes up when I'm no longer welcome there?" Mother would definitely not know about how Mash disappeared from the 'house' or how Innocent zero abandoned Domina. I also can guess that she wouldn't be arrested alongside Innocent and the four sons, and rather the Bureau of Magic would let her free like Domina, since she was in a coma for like 15 years and didn't know what was happening exactly (I'm 100% sure Domina would convince them somehow, doesn't matter the fact that she passed out into a coma only after giving birth to 6 sons. He probably asked the boy who used magnetic magic and had a twin for a favor (since his dad is the head of the Bureau of Magic? I think)). And so she would have time to get to know Domina and maybe Mash more?

Shopping online can be a struggle. I know I personally am particularly bad at figuring out how big something is or isn’t from the photos and/or measurements, and so many lolita items have to be bought online because in person sales are so rare. This past weekend I attended Fanime in California and had the luxury of being able to see a bunch of things in person to see their actual size. Now, I’m American, and we all know that Americans will use anything else except the metric system to measure things. Which brings me to this month’s Bibliotheca theme: Banana (for scale).

recently i've been really pushing hard into working on this revival project, so i thought it would be helpful to have a nice big post with links to all of my stuff inside it!

"what is care bear stars?"

care bear stars was a 2008-2009 fanime created, drawn, and animated by joshua click (known at the time as jcstars5). here's a general synopsis:

Care Bear Stars follows the story of Terry Rogers, who meets a magical anthropomorphic bear named True Heart Bear. She gives him a magical talisman, and with it, he transforms into Tender Heart Bear. Along with the other Care Bear Stars, they work to protect good feelings and love among humankind and fight the evil Professor Coldheart, alongside a rogues gallery of otherworldly foes.

for those who don't know exactly what a fanime is and what it entails, here's a good definition from TVtropes:

Fanime (a portmanteau of “fan” and “anime”) is a type of Web Animation typically created by young amateur artists that originated on YouTube around 2006, a year after the site's launch. ... In the past, many fanime were animesque cartoons based on pre-existing anime, especially Tokyo Mew Mew and other Magical Girl shows. Tracing was also common. Instead of using animation software, creators would usually draw frames in MS Paint or Photoshop and composite them in Windows Movie Maker. ... As fanime was predominately created by very young artists inexperienced in animation in the beginning, it gained a reputation for being bad. ... Following the mainstream popularity of Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls, this type of fanime dominated the community for a long time, but creators attempting to create genuine shows still remain and the community has grown increasingly talented and creative throughout the years.

care bear stars was received pretty well for its time for fanime, receiving a decent amount of fanwork and discussions on websites like deviantArt. though it was far from the only fanime at the time with its premise, its generally considered one of the pillars of first generation fanime alongside series like elemental goddess, and stood out for having full TV length episodes (something that was unheard of at the time for fanime).

the project was cancelled in 2009 after the creator received a cease & desist letter from then (now defunct) owners of the care bear stars franchise, cookie jar group.

I think I finished this hat like a few days right before fanime last year. I never had con crunch that bad before, I’m getting too old to keep up now. I had to pack it up right as I finished it, so this is the only picture I have of it and even though it’s a year old now I’ve been too lazy to take a proper picture still XD

Every so often I remember the time I cosplayed Dipper Pines while I was staffing at Fanime con San Jose 2014, and someone who was cosplaying Bill Cipher (and it was a great cosplay, no doubt about it, I loved it, it turned out great) said "close your eyes and hold out your hands" then proceeded to put their OWN WISDOM TEETH in my palm, unprotected. And laughed about it.

I had my one day off that whole con, waiting for the photo shoot to happen. My staff badge was prominently displayed, and this jokester thought it was a grand idea to in character drop a piece of their body in my hand.

That was a biohazard. That was assault. Bad enough it probably happened to a regular attendee, they did it to staff.

Listen, my dearest darling present and future con goers. It does not matter how edgy, eldritch, or bizarre the character you're cosplaying is. Do NOT bring your amputated body parts (including your pulled teeth) to the convention, and absolutely do not DO NOT put them in anyone's bare hand, in or out of con.

Are teeth part of your cosplay? Wow, great! That's going to look sick as fuck

but SCULPT THOSE CHOMPERS. PLEASE. Real teeth are completely unnecessary, and if you lose them (hah hah) on the con floor, they will be thrown away.

So to recap, teeth are considered a biohazard. Putting biohazard material in someone's hand or on their person without disclosing it and gaining permission is assault. Sculpt chompers if they're going to be part of your cosplay

I recently watched all the Episodes (barely made it in time before my work for tomorrow) anyways, may I ask what's your motivation for creating a Fanime? It seemed interesting that you're doing this without intentions of monetizing to support you in continuing. Thanks!

Thank you for asking, ataraxiakreig!! I made a fanime because I like telling stories, that's all. I was never out for success, I only wanted more close friends to play my favorite game.

Mellorism is a show that's very dear to my heart. It's a combination of my friends' and I's memories, both good and bad, with the hopeful message of everything sorting itself out in the end if we're all kind to each other.

Monetizing Mellorism will ruin my perspective on the show. It'll make me think it's work more than leisure, and I'd be pressured to step off my map because of a paycheck. I'm the type of person who wants to perfect my work when money is involved, to try and please everybody, even when I know I can't.

I'm not sure if I'd want that pressure when I already have an outside job with that exact kind of stress.

With my heart on my sleeve, investment into my talent, a lot of hours, and work that already pays well... Isn't that enough to create a story worthy of time?
