"Is everyone alright?" Namgung Su asked. Blood stained his white clothes, and he was panting heavily, as if he had just fought a fierce battle. His usual calm and composed demeanor, however, remained unchanged.
- Chapter 230
While reading this, I suddenly remembered this part from chapter 162:
"Did you just change your clothes?" Baek Suryong asked, clicking his tongue. Namgung Su's pristine white robe was spotless, free from even a single drop of blood or speck of dust, and every strand of his hair was perfectly in place. He must have used movement arts at full speed from the Azure Dragon Academy to the Valley of Evil, yet he still looked immaculate.
- Chapter 162
Damn, Suryong, i think you have the evil eye. Su's clothes are no longer white, clean or pristine.

I feel like one day you're gonna find out who I am and block me because I'm always requesting a lot of stuff buuuuuttttt please don't blame me😩😩😫. Your writing is just so nice and spot on and you're just so nice as well......😭😭😭😭
Could you please do break up to make up for Seongjoon?👀👉🏾👈🏾
I'm so sorry 😭😭😭. Feel free to discard this.....
Black Anon 🖤🖤
P.S: I blame you though. Don't be such a good writer😤😤😤
My sweet black anon. I've sat on this for so long because I just didn't really know where to go. I did write something similar ish called Broken here which is so-so at best but I couldn't think of anything else. INSPIRATION STRUCK LAST NIGHT. Hope it scratches that itch! Also. I'm dumb as shit. I have NO idea who you are and tbh would never block you for your requests! Or your kind words heh.
Seongjun Baek x Reader: Prince
Break up to make up(ish)
You were the one speck of light throughout his dark past in Japan.
But in the end, he was the one that broke it off.
Seongjun couldn't bear to be held back any longer. And that's how he viewed you. You didn't fit his future, his ambitions. A chain around his throat, tying him to things he no longer wants to think about.
He believed it at the time.
.
.
In every face, he looks for signs of you.
Those eyes that sees through to his soul. Those lips that still haunt his skin.
A voice that pierces his heart. A laugh that echoes in his mind forever.
Of course it is just a pipedream, you're hundred of miles away. A lifetime ago. An ocean and border and heartbreak divides you.
.
.
The messages from the live chat scroll through too quickly for Seongjun to fully comprehend. It's never really anything worthwhile, just words to feed his ego.
But today, he sees something. One word stands out amongst the crowd.
'Prince'.
The little moniker the Japanese media had created for him, that his fans and the Judo community lapped up, and you would always repeat with a teasing tone. "My little judo prince, my idiot king, my silly monarch." But the nickname still falls from your lips each time.
"My prince," and Seongjun, caught up in the swirls of puppy love, would return with reverence: "my princess".
"Prince?" Seongjun says to the camera, "I haven't heard that in a long time."
He hopes for a response, but it's too late as everyone else latches on. It's repeated until it loses all meaning, and repeated in every chat thereafter.
He feels the loss for a second time.
.
.
It's by complete chance that he passes you on a street.
The angle of your nose, fullness of your lips, curve of your chin causes a double take. Triple take. Quadruple.
He blinks once, twice, three times as if waking himself from a dream.
"Y/N!" Seongjun calls out on instinct. He doesn't know why he did it. Doesn't know where it would take him.
You turn around warily, as you do when any stranger calls out your name.
It's no stranger.
His hair a little different, his clothing much more polished. There's faint lines on his face you don't remember, and a hardness in his eyes you can't forget.
The easy grace with how he holds his body, how he pulled you into the same body night after night - once upon a time. The confident smile on his lips that has explored every inch of your being. You can't forget this neither.
And had it been so long you forgotten how your name sounds on his tongue: that you could mistake the gravel of his voice, the pitch and the tone for anybody else?
Long enough to forget the pain he had caused you?
"Seongjun," you breathe. A smile graces your features. You couldn't help it. You could never help it with him.
"Y/N," Seongjun repeats, returning your smile.
The thread of fate still ties you together, and the butterflies in his stomach matches yours.

Hi....I saw your requests were open and I have one for Seong taehoon and SeongJun Baek (they are my fav characters)☺️
Jealous seongjoon and taehoon. If their s/o is getting attention from someone they admire and the guys are feeling jealous. How would they react and have their s/o turn their attention back on them.
I don't see a lot of work for SeongJun so if it's okay with you I'll be sending some in, if you are okay with that. Have a great day.
stealing their s/o's attention back from someone they admire
details: gender neutral reader written in 2nd pov, general canon au, reader has been dating character for a while
a/n: hello and thank u for the request !! + i dont mind at all, i'd love to get more seongjun requests T_T i haven't written for viral hit as much as i'd like to so any requests are welcome~ also hope u have a great day too :]
side note; i assumed "someone they admire" meant someone the guys admire so i apologize if you meant someone the s/o admires 😭?
×
taehun
> most of the time he gets jealous rather easily, but other times he barely bats an eye unless he thinks, "actually. i'm jealous annoyed now" and goes to do something about it
> he's perfectly confident in himself, so his jealousy doesn't stem from insecurity. he just wants you to himself <3
> there's not many people he admires! maybe few adults in his life (his father included, even if he won't admit it) and some of his friends. he's not really the kind of guy who looks for role models so... ^_^;;
> to be honest his only "real threat" amongst the people he admires might be yeonwoo. he thinks the guy's a wimp but he can't deny the guy is good looking and, y'know. a decent, likable person. still, he knows, "my s/o could've had this goody two shoes but they chose me so i have nothing to worry about" but tinges of jealousy still come around
> his go-to is physical contact with you, even if it means inconveniencing you. yes, he will pull you in to sit in his lap, yes, he will hug you from behind. he is very loud about it all 💖
> if he can, he'll interrupt whatever's going on between you and the other person. just as a reminder that he's there, and that he's your boyfriend. also why bother talking to that person when you should be kissing him and--
> if he can't interrupt, he'll straight up change whatever's happening or at least talk to you so you look his way. and as a last minute resort, if needed? he will be very annoying by pulling you away from the situation lol
> he Might say sorry if you're particularly annoyed after his antics ★ will also deny any jealousy allegations, but rarely, admit it through gritted teeth if he "thinks you need to know" (whatever that means)
seongjun
> he doesn't like people messing with what's his, period. either way, he knows his scary reputation and your love for him so he doesn't get jealous easily
> i can't put my finger on it but i feel like there's a speck of insecurity hidden somewhere in him. otherwise his jealousy doesn't come from a lack of self confidence, but rather you spending more time with someone instead of him
> ...i don't think seongjun admires anyone at all. except maybe hobin, but that was something he said during his death 😭
> well. just for this scenario let's pretend he does have someone he respects and sees on equal footing--because honestly if it's anyone less, he's even less likely to get jealous. why should he care for someone he views poorly? as if they'd have a chance with you anyway, right?
> the way he acts depends on the other person. he's not too keen on stealing your attention right away because he wants to respect how you choose to spend your time, and apparently it's hanging out with this person...
> he prefers to be subtle; staying close with you (usually wrapping an arm around your waist to show the ~intimacy~) and putting on passive aggressive smiles. may make comments with said passive aggressive tone if needed
> the second the person seems to show interest in you, seongjun amps up his attitude. just a little bit though, he doesn't want to lose his cool with you around ^_^
> doesn't readily admit his jealousy but if you prod at him enough, he'll say the truth. isn't too embarrassed by it either because jealousy is a normal feeling and he thinks he's not being dramatic whenever he gets jealous so <3

At the age of 8, you and your best friend Jaehyun experienced the joys of snow together for the first time.
The perks of having your best friend as your neighbour was that they could go over to your house whenever they wanted (with permission from their parents of course). You and Jaehyun would go to school together, go home, play, and do homework together. Creating some of the fondest memories in your life. Neither of you realised how much it all meant until you were a lot older.
It was one December afternoon on a Saturday. You sat on the sofa between your parents, eyes focused on the animated characters on the TV. A bowl of popcorn sat awkwardly on your lap, but your small hands tried to keep it steady, not to let it fall on the floor.
Suddenly, light specks of snowflakes started to fall from a gloomy sky, and within a few minutes, those specks would turn into heavy snowfall.
You noticed something happening in the corner of your eye, and so you turned to the side and looked out the window with curiosity.
“Oh would you look at that Y/N, it's snowing!”
“Snowing?”
You placed the bowl of popcorn on your mum's lap before running up to the window. You watched the snowfall; your face lit up with excitement.
Next thing you know, the sound of a doorbell perked your ears, and you were curious as to who it was.
As your mum opened the door, there stood your best friend wearing a puffed up coat over his pyjamas, a fluffy hat and gloves to beat the coldness.
“Y/N, come out and make a snowman with me!!”
As soon as you heard those words from Jaehyun, you turned to look at your mum with wide eyes. You saw a smile grow on her face and nodded at you, which let you know that she permitted you to go outside. You quickly put on your coat and hat with matching gloves and went outside.
You and Jaehyun had a lot of fun building various snowmen, from small ones you placed on the window sill to big ones almost as big as you. Jaehyun even had this incredible duck shaping device which you use in the snow to create perfect little snow ducks. And, of course, when you’re outside playing in the snow, a snowball fight is a must.
“Y/N! Let’s make snow angels!!”
“Snow angels? What’s that?” you asked.
You tilted your head to the side and walked up next to him as your eyes followed Jaehyun curiously as he laid on his back against the thick snow. You watched him move his arms and legs up and down repeatedly until some of the snow gathered against the outline of his body. Jaehyun quickly got up and pointed towards the figure.
“This! Snow angel! Come, make one here!”
Jaehyun gently tugged on the sleeve of your coat as he looked at you with pleading eyes but you hesitated.
“It’s really fun, trust me!” Jaehyun exclaims cheerfully
“Okay, I trust you!”
Your parents had moved to Seoul a few years ago after a huge job opportunity your dad was offered, and of course, they had to bring you with them. You were devastated and questioned all the time why you had to leave the country you were brought up in and why you had to leave the rest of your family and friends behind. You couldn’t understand why your parents didn’t leave you with your family and move to Seoul on their own.
The first month or so was hard for all of you. You refused to go to school and your parents had to put up with all the tantrums you were making. You would cry almost all day, repeatedly asking your parents,
“Why am I here? Why can’t I go back home? I want to go home.”
“Y/N sweetie, this is your home.”
“No. NO! This is NOT MY HOME!”
You would always run to your room, feet stomping on the stairs as loudly as you could as you go to your room and lock yourself in there pretty much the whole day, sulking. Your parents were angry and didn’t know what to do.
But you were just a kid. Moving away to another country and leaving behind some of your favourite people in the world hurt you a lot. It was a lot to take in, especially at such a young age.
However, one day, it was like a miracle had happened.
You woke up and went to school. You didn’t throw a tantrum, you didn't cry, and you didn't refuse. Your parents thought that you had enough of crying and you got tired of it.
Or maybe because you felt bored staying at home most of the time, despite staying in the house and having an opportunity to watch all your favourite cartoons. You often wondered how your parents allowed you to stay at home like that. But, you wanted to go to school to make friends and share all your favourite things with other people.
And that’s what you did.
As time went by, you ended up having a lot of fun at school and would come back home with the biggest smile on your face. Sometimes as soon as your parents picked you up from the school gates, you would immediately hand them drawings you made in class, or show them the well-done stickers on your jumper that you had earned from your teachers.
It has been a while since your parents had seen you this happy and they were grateful.
They were even more grateful for a sweet little boy named Jaehyun, that you introduced as your special friend to your parents after school one day, because they already knew who he was.
Jaehyun and his parents lived next door, which is how they knew of him and were glad they lived next door. Both your parents agreed to swap numbers after a few friendly conversations and learning that their kids attended the same school. They also decided they would do school runs for each other if they couldn’t do so.
You didn’t know you and Jaehyun were neighbours though. It wasn’t until one day neither of your parents could make it to school on time to pick you up due to important schedules at work. Therefore, they had let Jaehyun’s parents know and asked if they could have you stay at his house until your parents were back.
You were upset when your parents didn’t show up and thought they might’ve abandoned you, but Jaehyun’s mum explained that neither of your parents could pick you up and that you could hang out with Jaehyun at his house until your parents were home. You were both very excited.
“Yaaaaay!!! We can watch my favourite show together and have pizza!!” Jaehyun claps his hands in joy.
You looked confused when Jaehyun’s mum pulled up in front of your house, and questioned why she drove you home when you were supposed to stay at Jaehyun’s. You finally realised when Jaehyun’s mum explained to you and opened the front door of the house next to yours, with Jaehyun pulling you to go inside.
It was from then on that you and Jaehyun promised to be best friends forever, sealing it with a cheesy pinky promise.
At the age of 16, you fell in love.
[26th JUNE. 2013]
The last of your exams were finally over, and to commemorate the end of another school year, your school decided to hold a prom event. You were excited about it because it gave you an opportunity to dress up, and it was an event where you and all your friends could have some fun, especially after a stressful few months. It was something that only happened once in your school years, almost like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so you made sure that it would be a memorable one.
So, who was your prom date?
Jaehyun, of course! You guys are best friends so you were stuck like glue, ever since you were kids.
Since Jaehyun’s mum had to go to work in the evening, she offered to drop both of you off on her way to work.
You were tightening the straps on your shoes as you heard the doorbell. You quickly gathered your essentials into your clutch and opened the door to see a well-suited Jaehyun, dressed up in a black tuxedo with a waistcoat and tie that matched the colour of your dress. Jaehyun’s hair was slicked back, away from his face and forehead visible, and damn, did he look extra handsome like that.
Holy moly he looks gorgeous. You thought to yourself.
“Wow…” says Jaehyun as he stares at you.
You’re pulled away from your own thoughts as you hear that first word he said to you after a few moments of silence. He was starstruck by your own beauty as he looked at you head to toe.
You stood there with your hair styled in a low bun. A few strands of hair you let loose on the sides which framed your face. Your makeup was kept to a minimum with a slight tint of a rosy red lip. All completed with your one-shoulder floor-length royal blue dress of chiffon material and a shiny jewelled belt on the dress that cinched in your waist, which completed the whole look.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that? Do you not like it?” you frowned as you looked down at your dress.
“N-No, No! I love it! You look… beautiful.”
You felt shy as he called you that, and you swore you felt like a tomato right there and then.
“Oh, thank you. You don’t look too bad yourself” you say as you look at him and his tux. A smile grows on Jaehyun's face.
“Oh, they match my dress!” you point to his tie and waistcoat as you notice the colour of it. “How did you know I was gonna wear blue?” tilting your head when you asked him.
You and your friends thought it’d be fun to keep each other's outfits a secret until the day of prom as a surprise. The only people who knew what you were going to wear were your parents, so you weren't expecting Jaehyun to turn up wearing a tie and waistcoat the exact colour of your dress. You thought maybe it was just a coincidence.
“Your dad told me. I wanted to at least incorporate the colour of your dress with what I was gonna wear, so I asked him what the colour of your dress is.”
“You’re welcome sweetheart.” your dad said who was standing a few feet behind you, and you didn't even realise. He winks at you and you squint your eyes at him as a response.
The honks of a car interrupt your conversation, realising that you should be going now. You and Jaehyun quickly say bye to your dad before you hop into the car and make your way to prom.
─
You, Jaehyun, and your friends were having a lot of fun, dancing the night away to old school classics, munching on food, taking loads of pictures, and talking about all the crazy things that had happened the past year.
Even though you and Jaehyun were with your friends throughout the whole time, you couldn’t keep your eyes off him.
Just simple things such as small touches to your arm or fixing your hair, gave you goosebumps. Or times when he would wrap an arm around your shoulders whenever you guys were talking to your friends. Whenever you saw him smile or see him throw his head back laughing at something ridiculous your friends had said, your eyes went straight to him, and it made you smile and laugh too.
The truth is, you had a big fat crush on Jaehyun. You can’t remember when these feelings started to appear, but it just happened. Your friends knew because you had told them one day after school. You wanted to talk to someone about it hence why you decided to tell them. Well, you told one of your friends, and they promised to keep it a secret, but they couldn’t, because everyone in your friend group apart from Jaehyun found out. You were surprised that information didn’t reach Jaehyun, knowing how gossipy your friends can get. At least they were doing you a favour, and you were thankful for that.
It’s not the first time you and Jaehyun have openly had moments of physical intimacy. It happens all the time, but today, it made you feel like you wanted something a bit more. It’s like on this particular day, your feelings for him became extra intense.
All your friends had started to pick up on it, and began to tease you with every opportunity they got. They were winking at you, nudging your shoulders and making weird noises whenever they caught you looking at him or even if you were seen alone with Jaehyun. You lost count at the number of times you gave death stares to them.
─
“Aw, this is one of my favourite songs!” you say to your friends at the table, when your ears perk up to the song that had just started playing, “I’m in love” by Yerin Baek.
You're so busy people-watching that you don't notice Jaehyun approaching you.
“Y/N, would you like to dance?” Jaehyun asks as he extends his hand out to you, a sweet smile on his face; dimples on display.
“I’d love to” you mirror his smile on your face. Squeaky noises and screams come out from your friends when you take his hand as you get up from your seat; leading you to the middle of the dancefloor, but not before looking back at your friends with a raised eyebrow. Wondering what on earth were those sounds and why they were so weird.
You look at Jaehyun with doe eyes as he pulls you in closer to him, his arms finding their place on your waist before you place your hands on his shoulders.
You don’t think you’ve ever been this close to him before. Even if you have, it’s not the same. His face is just inches away from yours. You felt yourself getting a bit hot, not from the number of people in the room but the closeness of Jaehyun’s body. You weren’t the only one who was like a tomato right now. Jaehyun was too. Ears turn a shade of red, but you don’t notice, because instead of making eye contact with him, you’re looking down at both of your feet as you sway side to side along with the music.
You could feel him staring at you, which makes you shy. You somehow find the courage to look up at him, and when you do, your heart skips a beat as the tip of both your noses touch each other. The next thing you know, Jaehyun’s lips are hovering against yours. You can feel the softness of his lips brush against yours, both of you closing your eyes. You make the first move, sealing your lips with his.
At first, it was a sweet and gentle kiss. You pull away from him for just a second before Jaehyun kisses you again, this time deepening the kiss as your hands make their way to the nape of his neck. Your fingers are playing with his soft locks. You swear you felt the goosebumps and butterflies in your stomach intensify like never before. You couldn’t believe this was happening.
You don’t really know how it happened.
Maybe it was something that had been brewing inside of you. Or it was the song that was currently playing that sparked the kiss to happen.
When you both pull away from each other, you continue to look at each other full of adoration. You looked back and forth between his eyes and lips and so did he. You both wanted to feel the softness of each other's lips once more.
Jaehyun leaned in closer and closer. You closed your eyes, anticipating and wanting to savour the moment with him, waiting for his lips to brush against yours.
But it never came.
Your eyes immediately open as you hear loud chatters surrounding you and Jaehyun, as some of his teammates from his basketball club suddenly pull him away from you to the other side of the hall. “I’ll catch you later!” he shouts out, and you watch his figure get further away. You wave at him in response before you’re dragged to another area of the hall by some of your friends, wanting you to try some of the food they had just brought out.
Way to ruin the moment. you both thought.
─
It was quickly approaching midnight, and before you knew it, prom was ending. It was time to go home. You and Jaehyun said your goodbyes to your friends before his dad picked you both up to drive home. The car journey was a bit awkward. When you and Jaehyun gathered with your friends again towards the end of the night, both of you were thinking about that kiss. Even now in the car, you were both still processing what had happened but decided to push it to the back of your mind for the sake of your friendship. Neither of you liked the awkward tension building in the car. You were already thinking of the worst, and you were scared. Luckily, Jaehyun’s dad came to the rescue and discarded the awkwardness.
Little did you know, that moment will come crawling back in your mind all the time. Because it was the moment you realised you were perhaps in love.
You spent the rest of the night laying in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, replaying that moment over and over again in your head. It felt like something you had seen in a movie or a story you had read, where one of the main characters fell for their best friend, especially when they’ve spent a good chunk of their life with them. And when they fell, they fell hard.
And that was exactly what had happened.
At the age of 18, he broke your heart.
[25th DEC. 2015]
It’s Christmas Day, and you’re currently sitting on the floor with your back resting against the couch at Jaehyun’s house. The Christmas tree placed in the corner lit up the whole living room. During Christmas, it was a tradition for you and Jaehyun’s family to go round and spend a day at each other’s houses.
You had just finished dinner a while ago. You and Jaehyun insisted on cleaning up after, but both your parents refused to let you guys do the washing today and wanted you to enjoy the rest of the evening doing whatever you wanted.
You were scrolling on your phone while Jaehyun went to the bathroom. You could hear laughter and chatter coming from the kitchen, which made the corner of your lips perk up. Jaehyun comes back and sits down next to you.
“Here, I wanted to personally give you this.” Jaehyun says as he hands you a small silver box with a red bow on top. “Merry Christmas Y/N”
You put your phone to the side and look at Jaehyun suspiciously as you take the small box from his hands. “Open it."
You open it and gasp; eyes widen at what you see in front of you. In the box lies a gold plated necklace with your zodiac constellation made of delicate gemstones upon a velvet cushion. The same one you first laid your eyes upon a few months ago at a jewellery store when you and Jaehyun went out shopping. And then again, a few weeks back when you walked past the store again.
"I saw you looking at it last time we were in the store together, so I got it for you.”
“Jae… Oh my god, you actually remembered? You didn’t have to… Also this was kinda expensive, no?”
“I wanted to get this for you because it seemed like you couldn’t take your eyes off it, and my parents chipped in as well.” Jaehyun laughs.
“Your parents? I’m surprised.”
“Oh, it’s no surprise. You’re practically like a daughter to them. They love you as much as I do,” Jaehyun says with a smile on his face. Your heart started pounding when he said that.
“Thank you” you don’t know where you found the courage from, but you placed a quick kiss on Jaehyun’s cheek and hugged him. His ears immediately blush at your action. Fortunately for him, you don’t see that.
“Jeong Jaehyun, you always know how to make me happy.”
─
[5th MAR. 2016]
“Oh my god, mum, why are we watching this?!” you whine out to your mum, who for some reason, decided to put on a bunch of videos from when you were a kid on your TV for Jaehyun to see. “Please turn it off,” you begged, as you reached over to where your mum was standing behind the couch you and Jaehyun were both situated on, trying to get ahold on the TV remote she was gripping onto.
Jaehyun is over at yours today for dinner as his parents had to go out of town to take care of a few things. Conversations about your childhood were brought up while your mum was preparing dinner, which led to your dad putting videos of you when you were little on the big screen for your best friend to see.
Even though you and Jaehyun had known each other since you were 8, he was curious to see what you were like before he met you.
“No please don’t, I love this. Y/N you’re so adorable!” Jaehyun says as he slaps your arm playfully. “You looked so cute when you were little.” You could feel yourself blush from his words.
On TV right now, was a younger you, dressed up in your favourite pyjamas and belting out to songs you had learnt at school, holding onto a remote control, pretending that it was your microphone.
“The vocals though!” Jaehyun laughs.
“Next time, it’ll be your turn.” squinting your eyes at Jaehyun.
─
After dinner, you and Jaehyun decided to get some fresh air and headed to the local park a few minutes away from your house.
Snow had built up across Seoul since it had been snowing quite heavily for the past few days, and you were always excited because it meant you got to build snowmen and have snowball fights.
It was something you enjoyed doing ever since you moved to Seoul and became friends with Jaehyun. Whenever it snowed, you felt like a child again. It always reminded you of the time you and Jaehyun played in the snow together for the first time when you were kids. Those memories made you smile.
Though you were wrapped in your puffy coat and boots, your hands were freezing. You were so excited about the snow that you forgot your gloves at home, and Jaehyun forgot his too.
Jaehyun picked up a snowball and tried to aim it at you but dropped it to the ground when he saw you rubbing your hands together and blowing air into it to try to warm them up. He ran up to you and grabbed your hands. You swore you felt your whole body shiver, not from the cold, but Jaehyun’s touch. Jaehyun started blowing air into your hands and repeatedly rubbed his hands over yours. You looked at him with adoration as he did so.
After a while, Jaehyun stopped and looked at you, his hands still clasped over yours. He seemed nervous, and it looked like something had occupied his mind.
“Y/N, I need to tell you something.”
Jaehyun looked at you intensely. He’s never looked at you like that before, and it made you anxious.
Was he going to confess to you?
Deep down, you hoped he did.
Ever since that kiss 2 years ago, you kept thinking about how you felt. At one point, you felt that it was just a stupid kiss and it meant nothing, but as more time went by, you realised that you couldn't get it off your mind. You couldn't get him off your mind. You found yourself wanting something more with Jaehyun.
There have been times when you wanted to talk to Jaehyun about what happened, but you didn't have the guts to bring it up. Jaehyun never spoke of that kiss again, so neither did you.
Since then, following several conversations and advice from your friends, you concluded that you were definitely in love with your best friend. They wanted you to confess to him. You had been going back and forth on whether to confess your feelings to Jaehyun or not.
You found yourself questioning whether it was worth the risk because what if he didn't feel the same way? Did he even like you back? Were you willing to potentially lose your friendship over this? You were scared of the outcome.
It's been 2 years now; maybe you should tell him soon before it's too late…
"Remember how I told you I applied for several universities, including one out of the country? Well, the one abroad accepted me. I start in August, so I'll need to move there sometime in July to get settled down."
The moment he said those words, your heart sank, shattered into a million pieces.
Your expression turned from sweet to sour. The glistening of your eye smile quickly disappeared, and was replaced with tears waiting to spill out. You looked everywhere but at him, not wanting to look at him anymore as you know it will now hurt you instead of healing you.
You snatched your hands away from his. The feeling of warmth quickly disappears. You didn’t care if your hands were cold again because all you cared about right now was the fact that your best friend that you grew up with, that you loved so much, was going to be moving away from you.
You didn’t know what to do at that point, so you started to walk back home, processing what Jaehyun had just told you. You heard footsteps behind you that were quicker than yours against the snow, which let you know he’s trying to catch up with you.
“Y/N”, Jaehyun calls out to you. You hear his footsteps get faster until he’s right in front of you, making you stop.
You don’t look at him, keeping your eyes on the ground when he calls your name again. Instead of walking away, you stand there, hands gripping on the end of your sleeves. You don’t dare to move as Jaehyun takes a step closer to you and another step.
He can hear sniffles from you. You’re crying. You want to stop, so you hide your face with your hands, trying to calm yourself down, but it doesn’t work when Jaehyun pulls you into a tight hug, which makes you cry even harder.
You only had less than 4 months left to spend as much time with him. 4 months isn’t that long, and it might seem like a while away, but you spent almost all your life with Jaehyun, it’s weird to know that he’ll be moving away soon and that you won’t see him as often as you do now. You won’t be able to close your front door, and within 10 seconds, you’ll be outside his. Time will fly by, and the next thing you know, you’ll be at the airport crying your eyes out, saying goodbye to him.
How long would it be until you could see him again once he moves away?
Will this be the end of your friendship?
At that moment, you wanted to confess your feelings to him, but you chose not to. You thought it would be unfair to him, and you didn't want to make him feel like he had to choose between you and his dream.
You knew how much Jaehyun wanted to attend this university, which unfortunately was in a different country. Attending and graduating from it meant he had a high chance of working at his dream job, and you didn't want to take him away from that.
After all, you would do anything to keep the one you loved happy, right? Even if it meant having to sacrifice your happiness, just for a while…
At the age of 21, your whole life came crashing down.
The last couple of years weren't too bad. You had some ups and downs but still managed to pull them through.
Saying goodbye to Jaehyun was one of the hardest things you’ve ever had to do. As the day got nearer to his last day in Seoul, you practically clung onto him like a koala. On the day of his flight, you couldn't stop crying. You hugged him for as long as you could up until the very last minute before he had to go.
He said his goodbyes to his parents, and then to you.
"I'll be back before you know it, I promise."
Though Jaehyun physically wasn't there by your side, he was always a phone call away if you needed anything. He is your best friend, after all.
Both of you tried very hard to keep in contact with each other. Quick texts throughout the day and a good few hours of video calls every weekend talking about everything and anything. Of course, it wasn't the same as before, because he was in a completely different country, but you both managed to maintain a strong friendship. You were grateful that you guys were still friends.
Both of you occasionally talked about visiting each other during the holidays, but it never happened as things just got too busy, especially with uni. Lots of hours and days spent at the library and lectures, doing coursework and revising for exams.
─
It was December, and you decided to plan a trip to see him during your winter break at the end of the month as a surprise. Jaehyun’s parents were also thinking about visiting him for Christmas, so you all started to plan the trip together, looking at flights and places to stay. You were looking forward to seeing him in person after a few years and spending some time with him.
Until one day, your whole world came crashing down.
You were in the middle of a lecture when one of the university councillors turned up and asked for you to be excused. You were confused as you started packing up your stuff into your bag. Your councillor walked you to the entrance building, feeling even more confused when you saw two police officers that seemed to be waiting for you outside their car.
They told you that there had been an emergency involving your parents and you needed to go to the hospital straight away. You started to panic and were about to make a run for it when the officers quickly told you that they’d drive you there. When you got in the car, you started crying, imagining some of the worst-case scenarios that could have happened. You tried to push those thoughts away and prayed that everything was ok, trying to calm yourself down. But you couldn’t, no matter how hard you tried.
Unfortunately, the worst did happen.
As you made your way there, the officer next to you explained that your parents were involved in a severe car crash—a drunk driver speeding down the road, trying to escape from several police cars chasing them. The driver lost control of the wheel and slammed into oncoming traffic. The first car they hit was the fatal one, which had flipped over several times. It was the one your parents were driving in.
When you got to the hospital, it was already too late. The doctors and nurses tried very hard to save them, but your parents didn’t make it. You didn’t even have the chance to say one last goodbye to them while they were still alive. You didn’t have the opportunity to tell them that you loved them one last time.
You broke down even more than you already were, leaning your head against the wall for a few moments before dropping down on the floor and hiccuping as tears flowed down your face. You cried and screamed out in anger and pain. The police officer crouches down with you, trying to comfort you by soothing your back and rubbing your arms up and down. But you just kept on crying and crying.
What were you going to do now?
The police officer took you outside to get some fresh air. You sat on a bench, still crying your eyes out but stopped after a while. The officer told you a few things, but you couldn’t concentrate on what they were saying.
Afterwards, they left you alone, but not before writing down a few numbers for you if you needed some extra support. You thanked the officer for being there with you and trying to comfort you.
Tears clouded your eyes, and you were crying again. You wished none of this had happened. You started pinching yourself, hoping that it was just a nightmare and that you would wake up soon. But all that happened was that area of your skin started turning red. You started pinching it even more and more until you stopped.
Your tears gradually stopped, and all that was left was minor hiccups and sniffles. Only now were you starting to process what had happened, and everything that the officers and doctors had told you was real. Though you were no longer crying, you were still in pain and distraught. It felt like someone had pierced through your chest and grabbed your heart, squeezing it as much as possible.
You stared down at your hands blankly as you fiddled with your fingers. You sat there for about an hour or two. Tears were coming and going. Grabbing your phone, you texted Jaehyun's parents, asking if one of them was available to pick you up from the hospital as soon as they could. Jaehyun's mum got there as soon as she could, and you explained everything to her.
When you got home, you told Jaehyun's parents not to say anything to Jaehyun about all of this and that you were going to tell him in your own time.
You were already in such a massive amount of stress, studying your ass off, trying to get the degree you always wanted. Being able to start a career in the field you have dreamed of since you were younger. Having your parents' death on top of all that stress, was not going to help you in any way.
It was 3 weeks before Christmas. 5 months before your first of the final exams. 7 months before your graduation.
It was going to be tough.
─
Time seemed to drag very slowly.
You spent the next month or so cooped up indoors, not going outdoors at all. Jaehyun's parents went round to yours now and then to check up on you and bring over homemade food just for you. Little things like this made you feel so fortunate that you still had them in your life, and that they only lived next door.
You isolated yourself from everyone, ignoring texts and calls from your family and friends.
Your family sent in voicemails and messages, saying that they were absolutely devastated about your parent's death, and that they were here for you if you needed them. Though you didn't feel like replying and felt a bit overwhelmed by all the messages, you were thankful for their love and support during these challenging times. You made a mental note to yourself that you'll contact them whenever you were ready to.
Your friends were starting to get worried about you, because it wasn't like you to not talk in your group chats. Sure, you did leave your phone on silent sometimes while you were studying, so it's not a cause of distraction, but usually, you'd be texting them, complaining to them how this assignment you were working on was a pain in the ass. You'd usually tell them not to distract you because you were busy studying. But for almost 2 months, the only thing you would reply whenever they asked if you were okay, was either an "I'm fine" or "I'm busy", nothing more.
One day, your friends showed up at your house, hoping to get answers from you. They weren't mad at all; they were just extremely worried about you.
You were surprised when you opened the door after hearing several knocks, seeing them in front of you. They let out a huge sigh of relief when you answered but frowned when they looked closely at you. You looked like you hadn't slept for days, and they assumed that you were studying too hard and hadn't been giving yourself breaks from it, but you just looked so… fragile and weak.
Eventually, you sat them down in the living room and explained what had happened. Your friends now understand the pain you went through and are still going through now.
You still had to tell Jaehyun at some point, but you didn't know when.
University would start again 2 weeks later. It was the last few months before your final exams, and boy, were you not ready to go back at all. You didn't want to go back, at least not yet. At one point, you even thought about whether you should continue; whether there was even a point to graduate anymore.
As hard as it may seem though, you wanted to carry on and finish it off. It was going to be a challenging journey ahead, and you knew there would be times where you wanted to drop everything, but you wanted to make it to the end. You needed to pull through the last few months, not just for yourself but for the sake of your parents. You wanted to graduate to make them proud. You didn't want to fail and quit, especially when you were so close towards the end. You knew that your parents would want you to continue to live your life as much as you could. They would never want to see you live the rest of your life unhappy.
─
The last few months of university were a struggle.
During those months, you tried very hard to get back up on your feet again. You can't lie and say it wasn't a struggle because it was. Staying in the house all the time didn't help, because memories surrounded you. You did spend almost 14 years growing up in this house after all. At one point, you thought, "Should I sell this house and get my own apartment?" but you couldn't. As you mentioned, you made a lot of memories in this house. As much as it killed you because your parents weren't here anymore, you knew that it would kill you if you did sell it. You didn't have a job, and was there a need to do that? You were fortunate enough to have a house in the first place. You felt you were overreacting.
In the beginning, you didn't feel like going into campus for lectures, still wanting to stay inside. As much as you needed to leave the house, since it wasn't good to be cooped up indoors for too long, you were in too much pain to leave your home.
Your professors knew what you were going through and were kind enough to record the lectures and send over presentations to you via email, so you could catch up with things in your own time.
Over time, you slowly started going back. Whether it'd be once a week, once every 2 weeks, you were starting to get back up again while at the same time, learning how to deal with grief.
But, it wasn't always a smooth journey.
You would have days where you would curl up in your bed, crying, as you think back to that moment when you learnt of your parent's death. And then you would have days where you would have the motivation to get out of bed, doing the best you can for the day, whether it's making some breakfast or doing some laundry. You didn't want your parents to worry about you.
You told yourself, "One step at a time". Small steps are still progress, right?
Soon enough, you were having more happy days than sad days, with huge support from the people in your life.
You were grateful for your friends who made time to visit you, making and bringing food and anything essential you needed. They wanted to make sure you were okay and looking after yourself, even though they were busy studying for the last of their exams. Sometimes they would text you, saying that they left some things for you at your doorstep, in case you didn't feel like having visitors that day or just as a surprise from them.
Jaehyun's parents checked up on you every day, whether it was bringing you homemade food, or quick calls to ensure you were doing well. They pretty much adopted you into the family; you were like a daughter to them after all. His parents didn't want to see you live in pain for the rest of your life, and they were sure your parents didn't want to see that either.
And what about your best friend, Jaehyun? Did you ever get around to telling him about your parents?
No, you didn't.
Well, Jaehyun's mum was the one that told him. He found out about a week after you had told your friends.
Of course, you had planned to tell him at some point because you did say to his parents that you would in your own time. However, because you were still grieving over the death of your parents and, at the same time, trying to back up on your feet again, you still didn't figure out when. When you were at the hospital, you did think about telling him as soon as you got home, but you never did.
Maybe it was because you didn't want him to worry about you. You didn't want him to give up on his dreams and make him lose focus. You knew that he would be devastated that he was not there to comfort you and be by your side. Knowing Jaehyun, he'd probably do something stupid like dropping out of university the last minute or booking the next flight back home just to be with you even if he had an exam the next day.
Sometimes, the things he did for you or things he said, made you wonder if he liked you more than a best friend. But you were always one to overthink, and you never wanted to expect too much, so you pushed the thought to the back of your mind.
When you isolated yourself from everyone, you were also trying to ignore his texts and calls. You didn’t want Jaehyun to worry about you, so whenever Jaehyun called or wanted to FaceTime you, you would either cancel or ignore the calls. You would text him an excuse saying that you were busy or at a lecture.
Soon enough, the phone calls and texts became less and less. You pretty much ended up ghosting him, and he was getting fed up. You didn’t want to do that, but you couldn’t think straight at that time. It was getting to a point where you hadn’t sent a single text to him for about a month. He tried to call you a few times, but you never picked up. It was almost like you had disappeared from the face of the earth.
Jaehyun thought maybe you were just too caught up with uni. He knew what you were like during exam seasons, so he didn't want to disturb you or anything. He still texted you but tried to keep it to a minimum. However, he was getting worried about you. He was concerned about your health, because he knew how stressed you could get to the point where you would neglect yourself.
He was also starting to think that maybe he had done something wrong. Was it something he said that made you stop talking to him? Were you trying to distance yourself from him on purpose because you didn't want to be friends with him anymore? Jaehyun was scared of losing you.
He wanted answers, but since you wouldn't pick up his calls or reply to any of his texts, he called his parents one day to see what was going on.
On the phone call, he asked about you, and his mum insisted that you were okay. But Jaehyun wouldn't take that for an answer. He knew that his mum was lying and felt something was going on. His mum kept telling him that she couldn't tell him, but Jaehyun begged his mum, and she could feel how sad he was getting. He even said he would book a flight one weekend to see you, but in the end, she told him that your parents had passed away. She didn't go into too much detail because she knows you'd want to tell him yourself when you were ready to.
Jaehyun was so heartbroken for you. He couldn't imagine how you felt when you found out how much pain you were in. He wished he was there with you, so you weren't alone. He wanted to hold you in his arms as close and tight as he could to show you that you were safe with him. He wanted to protect you from all the pain you were suffering from.
After the phone call, Jaehyun immediately sent a text to you.
You were curled up on the couch at that time. You paid no attention to a random show playing on the TV, only acting as background noise while scrolling on your phone. You were about to get up to go to the bathroom when you heard a ping from your phone, seeing that Jaehyun sent you a text.
JAE: “Mum told me everything. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m always here if you need me. I promise 💚”
At that moment, you thought that maybe now was the time to talk to him about it. So, you went to the bathroom, and when you came back, you called him. Within a few seconds, Jaehyun picked up and as soon as he said your name, you burst into tears. It’s like all your pent up emotions about everything just popped out. You missed talking to him and hearing his voice.
You and Jaehyun talked for hours. Your chest felt less heavy, and it felt so good to talk to him again.

[21st JULY. 2019]
Your graduation day is finally here.
You made it to the end, just like you wanted to. It was tough, but all that hard work has finally paid off, with a tremendous amount of support from the people around you.
You're happy that you're graduating with a degree that you love. But you missed your parents so much, especially on this occasion. You wished that your parents were still here to witness one of your most significant achievements in life, but you knew that your parents would be so proud of you.
For your graduation, you wore a dress that your parents loved when you tried it on in a store one day, pairing it with a set of gold earrings that your mum used to wear and a ring your dad used to wear.
You remember saying that this was the dress you would wear at graduation, even though it was around a year away. At that time, you didn't even know whether you'd be able to pass your exams or not. But, you made a promise that you would try as hard as you could.
Now that university is finally over, you have a few things to look forward to soon.
You were going to take some time off and travel around Japan, which is where you've always wanted to go. Find a job in the career that you've always wanted to work in.
And the most exciting thing of all, Jaehyun is moving back to Seoul sometime next month.
He told you on the phone 2 months ago that he was looking forward to moving back in August. It was something you always looked forward to, and it was a little something that helped you keep going through the hard times. You were looking forward to having your best friend back in the flesh.
You were glad that Jaehyun's parents and your friends were here. Though Jaehyun graduated a few weeks earlier, unfortunately, he couldn't make it to yours even though he promised he would because of some important issues he had to deal with, which meant he couldn't leave the country even if he wanted to. He never told you what it was, but it seemed urgent, so you didn't question him further. He did say he would tell you another day.
You were disappointed of course, because it was one of the biggest days of your life, but you knew that Jaehyun would never have missed it. You promised to send him pictures and videos of the event later on.
─
After the ceremony, your friends and Jaehyun's parents took many pictures with you. You even managed to get some professional photos taken before your friends had to leave. Jaehyun's parents stuck around with you until you were ready to head home, as they didn't have any plans for the rest of the day.
"I can't wait to see Jaehyun. He's coming back soon, right?" asked his parents as you were sending him pictures and videos from earlier. You look up from your phone and at his parents as they didn't respond to you. You noticed they had slight somber expressions.
You laugh nervously. "What? Did something happen?"
Jaehyun's parents looked at each other, wondering if they should tell you now, but they didn't want to lie to you.
"Sweetie, did he not tell you?" his mum said.
"Tell me what?"
You found out that Jaehyun may not be coming back.
─
After his graduation, Jaehyun had planned to move back to Seoul.
On his graduation day, his professor came up to him and told him that someone from a company had contacted him and said they really liked the portfolio Jaehyun had developed over the years at university and asked if he would like to go for an interview.
He agreed to go because it was at a place he had dreamed of working at ever since high school. Still, he didn’t think that such a thing would happen because it was one of the top businesses in the country, and it was hard to get into. And so he thought he would study in that field of work in the country that was well known in that industry, go back to Seoul and get a good job in that field.
The interview went well, but he didn’t think much of it because it was for such a prestigious company, but it was one of the best in the country. They were only hiring 3 out of 100 people, and Jaehyun didn’t think he would get it. He thought there was no way he could compete with the others.
However, a week later, the company contacted him and told him he got one of the places. He got the job.
Jaehyun was surprised. He couldn’t believe it; it was like a dream come true for him. All those days and nights spent studying in his room and at the library with him getting a degree finally paid off. He chased his dream and got it.
He couldn’t wait to tell his parents about it. He knew his parents would be over the moon because they knew how hard he had worked for an opportunity like this to come up.
He was a little anxious to tell you because he didn’t know how you would react to it. It made him think of when he told you he was moving abroad, but Jaehyun was thrilled nonetheless. He hoped you would understand what this meant to him. He wanted to say it to you in person because he was going to the graduation anyway. But, he said to himself that he would tell you the day after instead because it’s supposed to be one of the most joyful days of your life. He didn’t want to ruin that. He was looking forward to attending and finally getting the chance to see you again after a long time. He was so happy and proud of you; he wanted to be there and give you a big hug for making it.
However, during the same time the company contacted him, he was informed that his first day would be on the 19th July. 2 days before your graduation, and it was the day he had planned to fly out back to Seoul for that occasion.
That happiness disappeared when he realised that it meant he would miss your graduation. He would have to break the promise he made. He didn’t want to break your heart again, but he didn’t want to turn it down. He couldn’t just throw away this once in a lifetime opportunity. It was his dream after all.
But you would understand, right? You would understand that this was his dream and that you would be happy for him, right?
─
After your graduation, Jaehyun told you everything about his new job on a video call with you. When he told you, you didn’t react the same way as you did back when he told you about moving abroad for university. You were shocked but also happy for him, it was evident on your face. He was surprised you weren't mad at him at all. You were pretty calm and were very happy for him.
He felt relieved but, at the same time, guilty for having to break those promises he made.
Though Jaehyun knew you were happy for him, he didn’t know that you were also heartbroken. You acted like everything was normal, like how you two would talk on the phone for hours back then when Jaehyun had just moved abroad. But it killed you inside, knowing that you still won’t be able to see him as much as he had promised.
You were going to take some time for travelling before finding a job. You knew that you probably wouldn’t be able to contact each other once you get a job as often as before because both of you would probably be busy. But at least it’ll be easier for you to take some time off to go and visit him.
After the first week after he told you, you began to feel incredibly lonely. Maybe it wasn’t just because you missed Jaehyun, but it was also one of those days where you really missed your parents. It’s like all those sad moments came rushing back to you. You broke down in tears when you were on a call with Jaehyun one day.
“You left me again… You promised you’d come back.”
“Y/N, I never left. I’m still here, I was always here for you and I still am.”
“But you’re not here, here. Physically.”
“Y/N, I thought you were happy for me…”
A few days after that phone call, you started travelling. You knew you needed to get away for a bit, to spend time with yourself, especially after everything you had been through. You explored other parts of South Korea before flying to Japan like you wanted to do.
All those trips helped you tremendously. It gave you time to think and sort out all your thoughts. You needed it, and in the end, you were so glad that you did all that travelling.
As time passed, things started to feel a lot easier for you. It didn’t hurt you as much anymore. You’ve learnt how to deal and live with it.
Throughout the next couple of years, you and Jaehyun’s parents would fly out to visit Jaehyun a couple of times when all of you were free of schedule. You always made sure Jaehyun would have the best of times whenever you guys visited, because you knew how hardworking he was and how great he was at his job. Jaehyun would also make the most of the free time he had with you and his parents. It was almost like an escape from reality for him.
During your visits, Jaehyun would drop hints about his feelings towards you. He wondered if you've picked up on it, because you were always so affectionate towards him both physically and verbally, and he was the same too.
But both of you thought that the reason either of you acted that way was that it was the only time you guys were able to hang out like you used to. You wanted to make the most out of the only days you got to spend time with each other before you had to fly back to Seoul.
The amount of times he wanted to tell you about his feelings while he was with you but didn’t, drove him crazy. He always held back because he knew that he’d want to fly back with you. Jaehyun’s parents even picked up on the behaviour between you two. They couldn’t believe just how oblivious both of you were of each other's feelings towards one another, it made them laugh.
In the beginning, Jaehyun was quite happy and content with his life. He enjoyed his extended stay abroad. Though work took over his life most of the time, he lived comfortably and always looked forward to you and his parents' visits.
But as time went by, things started to shift. He wasn't as happy compared to when he first started. Work soon started to begin to stress him out more and more. He didn't love it here as much as before. He began to feel a bit lost and lonely.
It felt like he was missing something or someone…
At the age of 24, Jaehyun’s never felt so stupid in his life.
[27th DEC. 2021]
Jaehyun was in his office, munching on his lunch. He had just gotten off a phone call with you. It was a very brief one since you had to go back to work.
He was casually looking through his phone when suddenly, a notification popped up, saying that there’s a new memory from his Photos app. It was a video he had saved on his phone thanks to his mum sending it to him one day. It was from the time when you and Jaehyun were bundled up in your oversized coats, down on the ground with your arms and legs moving up and down to create snow angels on the bed of snow when you guys were 8 years old.
He remembered feeling so excited he could run out of his house, do a little u-turn and end up right at your front door in a split second. He remembered stretching his arm up to ring the doorbell and asking you to make a snowman with him. He showed you snow angels and remembered seeing his mum recording videos of you and him playing in the snow together for the first time.
He was so excited to have become best friends with you in the first place. And with you just living right next door to each other as well? He was over the moon.
Watching that video made him look through the photos he took over the years with you.
He comes across several pictures taken at prom back in high school. Both of you making goofy faces in a couple of selfies and pictures with your friends. It makes him think back to the time you both kissed. He remembers thinking to himself, "Is this what love feels like? Is this what it feels like to kiss the one you love?"
When you removed your lips from his, not even a second later, he wanted to kiss you again. And that's exactly what he did. He wanted to be in that moment for as long as he could.
When you both pulled away another time, he felt his heart beating like crazy, making him feel all sorts of emotions for you, love, adoration, warmth. He thought he was going crazy. But he just wanted to kiss you again and again. He started to feel nervous, because he was scared that you would think it was a mistake, but that look you had on your face told a different story. It gave him the courage to kiss you again, but his teammates suddenly turned up and dragged him away.
Throughout the whole night, he couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened. It was the day he realised that he had feelings for you, feelings beyond your friendship.
Swiping through more pictures, he stops at one where you and he were sitting in front of the Christmas tree, with Santa hats on your heads at his house when you and his parents went over for dinner. He remembers the way your eyes glistened and that smile you had on your face when he gave you the necklace you wanted.
He loved to see you smile and loved it when the reason for your smiles and laughter was because of him. He vowed to himself that he would never make you cry, apart from if it's happy tears. He would try to keep you smiling and laughing for as long as he's alive and with you.
But that changed a few months later when he told you he was moving away for university.
On that day, just earlier, he was with you and your parents, watching videos of when you were little before you and Jaehyun met. As well as videos your parents had taken when you and Jaehyun would hang out when you were kids. The new year gatherings, the summer holidays, the Christmas holidays. He remembers asking your mum to send him the videos if she could so he could use it to tease you with it whenever you annoyed him or when he felt like it.
When you guys were out at the park, he was so nervous because he decided he would tell you right there and then. He was scared at how you were going to react to the news.
He had gotten confirmation of his place at the university a few days ago, and he was thinking about how to tell you. He didn't want to tell you so soon, but he only had about 4 months left before he had to move abroad. He didn't want to tell you at the last minute when he knew it would break your heart even more, and he could never do that to you.
It killed him when he saw you react the way you did. You looked so hurt.
You started to walk away from him without saying a word. He was confused when you reacted like that. Weren’t you supposed to be happy for him because his dream finally came true?
He started to chase after you, and while he did, he thought maybe he should’ve confessed. He thought about confessing his feelings for you on this day but decided not to as he knew that it would make it harder for him to leave. And what if you didn’t feel the same way? What was he going to do? He didn’t want to risk your friendship at the time, especially when he was going to move away soon, and so, he thought he would tell you about the move instead. He thought it was the right thing to do.
He never wanted to see you cry, ever, so it broke his heart when you did. And it broke his heart even more that he was the reason for your tears when he vowed to himself that he would never make you cry.
It was a complete 180 to how you were earlier when you were all gathered in the living room, smiling and laughing at the memories made when you guys were kids.
When he held you so tightly, he understood why you reacted that way because if it were the other way round, he would've reacted the same way.
I mean, your best friend, who you've known almost your entire life and who you love with all your heart, was moving away from you. Who knows when and if you'll see them again. Things can happen, and things can change.
He didn't want to leave you, but he didn't want to give up on his dreams.
Counting down the days until Jaehyun's flight, he thought you were so cute that you kept clinging onto him, even more so than when you were kids. You didn't want to let go of him, and he didn't want to let go of you either. You promised each other that you would keep in contact as much as you could, which is what you did.
Until during the last few months of uni, you stopped texting him and answering his calls before exam season began. It was like he never existed in your life. You disappeared all of a sudden without saying anything to him. He thought that maybe you just got distracted with studying because he knew how much you wanted to graduate. That you were pressuring yourself, maybe too much, and he didn't want you to do that. He thought you were spending all of whatever free time you had in the library or studying in your room. If he were still there in Seoul, he would've come over to your house and dragged you away from your desk and outside of your home to force yourself to take a break.
He thought he should confess his feelings for you. Maybe it would help to get through the stress you were probably having. He hoped it would give you extra love and support to help cheer you on.
He kept texting and calling you, wanting to talk to you, hoping to give you some encouragement, but no answers.
As time went by, he was getting increasingly worried, which is why he pressed for an answer from his mum.
For a second, he thought he just lost his chance of confessing to you. He should’ve told you how he felt a long time ago. But that didn't matter and that thought didn’t cross his mind anymore as soon as Jaehyun found out about your parents had passed away because at that time, his main priority was to be there for you as much as he could, like he always had been but even more so than ever.
He was absolutely devastated. He felt so guilty because exam season was approaching, so it killed him that he couldn’t be there with you when all he wanted to do was to comfort you and to hold you. If he could, he would’ve been there in a heartbeat.
He was happy to have heard your voice for a while when you finally called him, but it crushed his heart when he heard your broken voice and tears when you talked to him about your parent's death which is never an easy thing to do.
He remembers telling you how brave and strong you were to keep going and wanting to do the best you could for the sake of your parents. It's one of the things he loves about you. The fact that you never want to fail and you always try to push yourself to the end. You always try not to give up so quickly, and Jaehyun admires you a lot for that. It's taught him not to give up so easily.
You promised him that you would do your best and he promised you, and himself that you would get the biggest hug ever as soon as he could see you again and that he would never leave your side.
─
Thinking about all that has happened, he realised how many broken promises he has made, not just to himself but to you. He’s surprised but grateful that you stuck by him and understood why he had to break those promises.
Suddenly, everything here felt foreign to him, like he didn’t belong here anymore. He started to feel sadness surrounding him. It felt like something was missing.
As much as he loved his job here, he misses Seoul. He misses his friends and his parents. He misses the little things such as home-cooked meals made by his parents, playing basketball with his friends at the park. Small conversations he would have with the local owner of a small cafe at the beach not far from his house.
Most of all, he misses you.
During the few times when you would come to visit him, and it was time to fly back, he just wanted to follow you back to Seoul. He wanted to leave everything he had here and return home with you.
He misses how he could turn up at your house anytime he wanted, and not once did you get angry with him over it. Late night adventures to the convenience store on nights where you would randomly crave instant ramen and cheap but yet the most delicious ice creams ever.
He misses how you would beg him to go to random cafes you discovered on social media because of how picturesque they always looked and asking him to take a million photos of you. You always ask him to choose one to post on Instagram but always pout at the one he chooses because you think you look weird. Still, he always tells you that you look stunning in it no matter how many you take.
He misses the times how your smile or your eyes would crease up whenever you talked about something cool you saw or discovered on the internet. It always made his heart melt, and he would always get the urge to pinch your cheeks and coo at your cuteness.
He misses how he always felt at home whenever you were by his side. He always seems to be the happiest whenever you’re with him.
He didn’t want to be so far away from everyone anymore.
Yes, it was his dream to be here, but it’s not making him as happy as before.
They say that you should follow your dreams to be happy. If you follow your dreams, then you follow your heart. If you never chase your dream, you will never catch it.
He's already chased his dream; it's time to chase another.
His dream now is to go back to Seoul, back with his friends, parents, home, and you.
─
[7TH JAN. 2022]
It’s that time of year when the snow starts piling up everywhere across Seoul once again. It’s only been snowing for about half an hour, but it’s been getting heavier by the minute.
It’s about early evening now, and you had planned to go out for some grocery shopping, because you didn’t have much in the house to cook something. But, you didn’t feel like leaving the house anymore because of the weather, so instead, you ordered delivery.
You figured it’d probably take a while because of the snow so in the meantime, you decided to do a bit of cleaning around the house.
10 minutes later, the sound of the doorbell resonates throughout the house. “Oh, that must be my food!” It perks your ears and you quickly make your way downstairs as you were upstairs doing some cleaning.
When you opened the door, you weren't greeted by a delivery person, instead, you were greeted with a certain someone at your front door, gripping onto a large suitcase on the side.
You stood there, staring at them with shock on your face. “Jaehyun? Wha-what are you doing here? You never told me you were flying back here.”
“Surprise?” Jaehyun’s prominent dimples appeared as he gave you a slight smile. You wanted to say something, mouth opening and closing. You were lost for words, so instead, you immediately threw yourself in his arms, hugging the living daylights out of him. Jaehyun chuckles at your reaction, hugging you back.
After a few moments, he taps your back, motioning you to let go of him. “Listen, Y/N, there’s something I need to tell you. Well, a few things I need to tell you.” You scrunch your eyebrows, wondering what he has to say.
“Actually, before I tell you, can we go inside? It’s fucking cold out here.”
“Oh, right, sorry” you pull Jaehyun in along with his suitcase, and close the door.
Your breath hitched as you felt the close proximity of Jaehyun. You hadn’t been this close to him in a while; you forgot how shy he made you feel sometimes.
“Before I flew here, I had to take care of a few things. I booked the earliest flight back as soon as I could, though it feels like I should’ve done it earlier.” You frown at him as you shake your head.
“I-I don’t really understand…”
“I quit my job.”
You widen your eyes at his statement. It felt like your eyes were going to pop out any second. “You did WHAT? Jaehyun, are you out of your mind?! Are you crazy?! That was your dream, why did you do that?”
Jaehyuns shifts his eyes to the ground, then back at you, taking in a deep breath before a smile grows on his face.
“I am so in love with you Y/N. Not in a best friend kinda way, but much more than that.”
“What?” You blink at Jaehyun a few times, processing everything he had told you so far.
He takes a step closer to you. “I love you, Y/N”
Silence fills the room for at least 10 seconds before you manage to say anything.
“Being in love with me doesn’t equate to quitting your job! I think? Unless you’re really crazy.” Your eyes widen again as you put your hands on your temples. “Oh my god, I hope that's not the only reason why you quit.”
“Y/N” Jaehyun removes your hands from your face, taking them in his. His thumbs soothing circles on them as a way of telling you to calm down.
“Sorry, this is kind of a lot of information to take in.” you grimace, as you pull one of your hands away to scratch the side of your neck a little. A habit that you developed over the years when you realised you may have overreacted. “You know I never want you to give up your dreams just because of me.”
“There’s a lot more to it, trust me.”
You gave Jaehyun a worried look, and he took it as a sign for him to elaborate.
“It was getting really stressful and it was starting to take a toll on me. I also felt really lonely without you. And maybe it’s time for a change; relax and take it a bit easy, you know? I’m sure I can find a job here in Seoul.”
You nodded at his words, giving his hands a little squeeze. “If that’s what you want, I’ll 100% support you.”
"Ever since your parent's death, it made me realise how life can just be taken away suddenly. The most important people in your life can be gone in an instant. I want to spend more time with everyone, especially with you. You've gone through so much, and despite all that has happened, you've remained so strong and positive. I absolutely love you for that."
As you listened to his words, tears clouded your eyes before they quickly fell down your cheeks.
“I’m so sorry, I should’ve come back a long time ago.” Jaehyun says as he wipes one of your tears away.
You shake your head and smile. “You have nothing to be sorry for. You’re here now, in the flesh.” you chuckle. “That’s all that matters.”
“Don’t get me wrong, I was happy over there, but I'm the happiest here, with you.”
You sniffle a few times and take a deep breath. “Jaehyun, there’s a lot of things I’ve been wanting to tell you, but… I don’t really know where to start.” letting out a laugh as your tears continue to fall.
“It’s okay, we have plenty of time.”
“You came home”
Jaehyun nodded. “I did.”
“And you’re kind of crazy too.”
Jaehyun looks confused. “How?”
“You know you could’ve just dropped your suitcase off before coming over here since you live next door. You could’ve said hi to your parents first before coming over and had dinner with them, or you could’ve-” You suddenly feel a pair of lips on yours. Jaehyun cuts you off mid-sentence with a kiss. Something, of course, you didn’t expect, but you kissed him back, and you felt him smile. But Jaehyun pulls away from you when he feels something wet on his face.
“Why are you crying?” Jaehyun chuckles as he wipes the tears off your cheeks delicately.
“Because I never thought there'd be a day where my best friend feels the same way as I do.”
“So you love me too?” Jaehyun grins.
“Of course I do, you crazy, stupid man,” you say, as you lightly slap his shoulder before wiping the remnant of your tears away. “I’ve been throwing signs everywhere since forever. Did you not pick up on them?”
“Me too Y/N! Did you not pick up on mine too?”
“Oh. Well, I guess we’re both crazy and stupid then.” you pout, before Jaehyun pinches your cheeks. This is one of the things that Jaehyun loves about you, your silliness.
“You're still crazier than me though.”
“How so?” Jaehyun raises an eyebrow.
“You quit your job, flew thousands of miles back here, just to tell me in person that you love me. Tell me that’s not what a crazy person who’s in love would do.”
“Hey! That is not what I- … Actually, that is kind of what I did.”
You shake your head and laugh, Jaehyun joining in with you, taking your hands with his and swaying it side to side gently. It's quiet again after a few moments, but Jaehyun continues to look at you with happiness on his face. You start to look anywhere but at him as you feel shy from his gaze.
“Y/N?” His tone is a bit more serious this time.
“Yeah?” looking at Jaehyun again.
“I will never leave you again, I promise. I know, I haven’t kept a lot of my promises, but this is the ultimate promise of all promises.” You let out a chuckle at the last bit. “Just trust me, Y/N.”
You nodded at him. “Okay, I trust you”
Jaehyun cups your cheeks with the palm of his hands. He’s leaning in closer and closer—
ding dong
You let out a small gasp and jump slightly from the sudden sound, wondering who on earth is at your door. You stare at the door for a moment, trying to think if you were expecting anyone at this time.
ding dong
Another door bell pulls you out of your thoughts.
When you go and open the door, there stands a young man all warmly dressed up with a helmet on his head, the mask on his face only makes you see his eyes.
“Uh, can I help you?”
“You ordered delivery?” the confused man holding up some brown bags. Though you can’t really make out his expression, you can sense the annoyance through his voice.
Your eyes widen at the reminder. “Oh shit, yeah, I did, sorry” you take the bag out of his hands. A nervous laugh escapes your mouth. “I forgot about this, sorry, thank you” The man walks back to his bike and rides away. You swear you saw him roll his eyes before he left.
You head to the kitchen and set the bags down on the dining table. Jaehyun following your steps behind you.
“Sorry, um, were you going to say something?” You turn around, but not realising Jaehyun is right behind you which makes you jump a little.
“Not really, I was going to do this.” Jaehyun cups your cheeks and kisses you with so much passion and love.
You pull away from him, trying to catch your breath. “O-Oh o-okay, that’s even better.”
“You’re so cute when you get flustered.” Jaehyun snickers.
“I do not get flustered.” you protest to him, as you start taking out the food from the bags with a pout on your face. After a few seconds of silence, you mumble to yourself “It’s the 'Jeong Jaehyun effect' I suppose”.
“What did you just say?” Jaehyun smirks.
“N-Nothing, nothing!” shaking your head and clearing your throat.
As soon as you put everything out, Jaehyun takes both your hands in his and pulls you in closer to him. Not even a space left between your bodies.
“I love you.” Jaehyun says as he looks at you with so much love in his eyes. Even if you’ve heard those words from him before, there’s something different about it now. It’s like all his love for you from his heart and soul, is poured out onto those 3 words. It meant so much more to you both now.
You smile at him before tip-toeing slightly to give him a quick kiss on the lips. “I love you too.” You could feel yourself turning into a tomato after doing that. Jaehyun’s ears also turn the same shade.
“I know it might be a bit late but, Happy New Year, Y/N”
Shaking your head, “It’s never too late.” You remove your hands from Jaehyun before cupping the sides of his face, your thumbs rubbing his cheeks gently with his hands finding their way on your waist. He nuzzles against your touch. Both of you have the biggest smile on your face.
“Welcome home, Jaehyun”

Melancholia ep 1-2
A.K.A: No Teacher/Student Romance
Last week I got an ask about whether or not there was inappropriate romance between the teach and the student and I’m happy to say there is not. I didn’t actually think there would be (this is a k-drama) but there isn’t even a tiny speck, not even a meaningful gaze that could be construed as romantic. In fact, one time a romantic OST was playing while they were solving math problems and all I could do was laugh cause like, that was SO not the mood??
This is one of those evil corrupt rich people destroying lives for the academic rankings of their students k-dramas so far. And the teacher/student relationship is actually very lovely and appropriate. There is a romance but it’s clearly with math. Like, they are head over heals for math people.
I did see some screen grabs that looked a little suspect for the next episode (like, just don’t share headphones with your male student alone at night LMAO) but I’m pretty confident that Ji Yoon Soo, the adult is feeling very platonic about Baek Seung Yoo, and I don’t think that’s going to change (at least until the time jump). Maybe he’ll be into her I mean she is a gift but that’s pretty normal as long as she keeps boundaries.
I’m a little stressed with this drama overall, because I really don’t enjoy rich people politics and school trauma, but it’s super well done and I’m a fan of the leads. So far so good!

Despite your world having been turned upside down, your routine remained the same: shower, cleanse, brush, floss.
Nothing changed.
You rinsed, swishing the cool water from cheek to cheek while staring at your reflection in the mirror and wondering just when the tears had been replaced with the soft glow of your gleaming, healthy skin. No longer did your skin lap up moisturiser like the desert's sand did a drop of moisture - care alongside time had soothed the roughness that once cursed your edges.
Despite how you thought your world had near come to an end, you had moved on.
But nothing significant changed.
The fluctuation in weight had settled and your confidence returned with it. Slipping into your pyjama shorts and the matching top, you frowned. Shouldn't it feel different? Shouldn't it still hurt? A relationship should be impactful, should be meaningful and yet indifference pooled where depression once spawned in towering waves.
Water trickled down your back and it was more of an inconvenience than his departure had been. Pushing your hair out of the way, you ran a washcloth along your neck to collect the stray droplets. Why had you even cried? It seemed pointless now to have wasted even a second longer on him.
Despite your ex walking out the door and leaving you broken, you had mended the wounds and stood a bit taller with every passing day.
Maybe something inside you had changed, perhaps just a little.
A smile crawled across your bright features. It came as naturally as breathing. Your eyes tended to sparkle these days and your voice no longer quivered. Where you had once let yourself go, let your body and mind suffer under his influence, you now saw beauty and resilience.
Applying a night cream under your eyes that was a bit too heavy and thick and perhaps too lavish, you stuck your tongue out and gave yourself a wink. It was goofy, but who really cared? It was fun and it drew forth a smile regardless of how bad your day may have been.
Simple actions like these reminded you that even something as mundane as getting ready for bed was a precious moment in your life that should be cherished.
You had only realised this just a few months prior while crying in the cold comfort of your dark room.
All the joy in your life had been sucked out of you by that parasite you called an ex. From the snide remarks about your appearance to the irritation and borderline anger whenever you expressed even the slightest interest in something that didn't fall within the realm of his approved hobbies - the man was a control freak who enjoyed making you feel weak and pathetic.
While in retrospect that should have made you furious, it wasn't what made you hate him. Not even how he took everything from you, every ounce of your happiness and the few remaining specks of your immature youth, only to declare you a husk of your previous self before leaving you without a second glance made you hate him.
No, you despised him because even after years of subservience and the complete acceptance of his tyranny, his departure left no lasting mark on you.
How can someone be your everything and yet their absence change nothing at all?
How can someone be so insignificant?
Years had been wasted, years that should have been filled with joy. He had stolen a million laughs, a billion smiles. It would take time to replace all that had been lost and, while you couldn't replace the time itself, you could fill every moment of your precious future with the happiness you had always deserved.
And so you laughed.
You looked upon your shining self and you smiled.
There were better days ahead and going forward you would chase every opportunity to live a life that brought you happiness.
Flipping the light off, you exited your bathroom with mirth on the tip of your tongue and electric excitement in your bones. Your eyes descended upon your bed, or rather the man sprawled on top of it. A playful groan slipped past your lips as you placed a hand on your hip and shook your head at him.
Your pursuit of joy had led you right to him.
"What are you doing on my bed?"
Baekhyun's head snapped up from his phone and he drank in your body before grinning. "I'm single, you're single…"
"Your point?"
He got more comfortable, sliding up further on the bed until he rested on the pillows. Turning onto his side to face you, he patted the pillow next to him. A loose strand of his golden brown hair fell in front of his eyes and he tried to blow it out of the way, failing thrice before running a hasty hand through it and offering you an over-the-top wink.
"I warmed the bed for us."
"Get out, idiot."
"What?! I was kidding! I just wanted to make you smile!" The words tumbled off his lips in a jumble, as if affected by the way his body jerked forward. His hands waved in front of his face, drawing your attention to his cheeky grin and you braced yourself for whatever flirtatious remark he'd conjure next. "I live to see that beautiful smile of yours lighting up the room, after all. The light of my life, the sun I rotate around."
"Baekhyun," you sighed, rubbing your temples in mock exasperation while also calming your racing heart.
"I even bought ice cream." He pouted, pointing toward a small container on your nightstand. Condensation marked the sides with clear evidence of the start of a great thaw and your mouth stretched into a line. Your nerves settled like an anchor and a legitimate groan passed your lips upon the realisation that he hadn't remembered to place a coaster. "It's our favourite flavour. You know, the one we settle on when we can't decide whose turn it is to pick their actual favourite."
"What am I going to do with you?"
His eyes followed you, observing your features. Baekhyun was attentive to changes in your mood. He'd search for any signs of discomfort and tended to notice when something was on your mind before you did. He liked to tease but he never intended to push you too far, never wanted you to feel uneasy. It was this genuine sincerity that passed through his words during every interaction.
He was an oasis of playful honesty and unadulterated joy.
Swiping up the excess water with a wash towel you had grabbed from the bathroom, you cleaned the small mess the ice cream tub had left before popping the lid open and digging in. Nudging him with your elbow, you sidled into bed next to him. The room was too chilly and the frozen treat too cold not to hop under the covers that were trapped under his body. You pushed him out of your way, earning an exaggerated cry, and covered your lower half in the fluffy blanket and hummed in content as the cold was chased away.
"Netflix?" You asked, grabbing the remote from inside the nightstand and turning the television on.
"And chill?"
"Get out."
"It was a joke!" He threw his hands up in defense at your forced glare. Unable to stop yourself from smiling, you smacked his shoulder. You ignored his whine and focused on scrolling through your shared account for the show you had started a few weeks ago but had abandoned upon finding a drama more suitable for binging. After a few seconds of silence, you risked a glance at him.
His hair was a mess and he looked casual, comfortable. There was a twinkle in his eye so bright that the dark corners of your room seemed to disappear. You could feel warmth radiating off him in waves and you gravitated toward him. He quirked his eyebrow a few times in quick succession. "I mean, unless?"
"You're ridiculous."
Despite your world having been turning upside down, you soon discovered your right-side up within these tender moments of affection.
You hadn't changed, not really.
You had simply been reminded of something you had long forgotten:
the euphoria of intimacy.

BIOGRAPHY
triggers: -
her career is an accident, every single bit of it.
rewind.
press > play.
yoo gyuri is born in seoul. her home is modest and warm, it’s quiet and soft. her mother sings and it sounds like butterflies and a summer breeze. her father sings and it sounds like going to yangjae stream to catch fireflies, butterflies, and grasshoppers. she grows up with a song in her heart, she lives without fear. she’s round cheeks and strangely mysterious eyes, an intent and curious stare that unsettles those she focuses in on. they laugh nervously, little tittering sounds as they tell her she’s such a precocious little thing. so insightful.
when she was born she was everything her parents wanted: beautiful since a young age, talented, and sickening sweet. the long awaited birth of their only daughter brought a happiness that shed a small speck of light in what otherwise would have been a consuming darkness. tireless effort and patience were the tools of her parent’s trade and they applied this to yoo gyuri as well. born to two singers - artists, they preferred to be called - it was no surprise when the small girl began singing before she could speak. figuratively, of course. they are gentle, but firm, and poured their expectations into the young girl relentlessly. they did not mean to fill her to the point of bursting, but this is what happened, regardless.
what was a natural gift is quickly turned into a power when her parents trade the extra math lessons for vocal ones, the arts for dance. even as a child, the pressure is insurmountable. her voice continues to improve, her range growing, her appearance matching the soft and soulful nature of her music.
fastforward.
yoo gyuri is thirteen the first time a vocal trainer tells her parents, specifically, what makes her special. what makes her voice better. it’s not technique or precision. it’s not even her range, really. it’s the power that comes out of such a small girl. it’s the emotion. “she sings like she’s lived a thousand years,” her trainer told her parents one day. “like she’s lived a thousand heartbreaks.”
when yoo gyuri auditions for a small company, she’s a slight thing, in stature and in age. thirteen years old but her voice soars powerful and pure, a heart wrenching quality to it that covers for breathiness, for unsupported notes, for the roughened lack of polish that comes with years of singing in her bedroom without any proper training.
fastforward.
even if the company is small, a little run down, often time is asking for money from their own trainees because they aren’t able to rake it in themselves - still she sings. and in the blink of an eye, two years pass. with not a debut in sight, with the small company still five feet under ground in debt, her contract expires and her parents small speck of light in the darkness is shut out. there is no giving up, that much is clear. there will be more auditions, there will be other companies.
her big break comes in the form of a training contract with gold star media. a new company, but one that screams of promise, founded by one of the most famous women in south korea. her parents knuckles turn white when they hold onto her the day of her audition, begging her to make it. she vows to herself that this time it’ll work out, she’ll debut.
fastforward.
pressure tells her she shouldn’t bother with being an idol. she’s not skinny enough, her dancing is mediocre at best. they probably have better singers. prettier girls, more typical looks. she’s self defeating. her boss brings her along to lessons, she’s in the shadowing phase of her program, learning through experience. the woman seems to be particularly smug today, a secretive smile in the corner of her lips. she wonders why.
she finds out.
opening her mouth to sing in front of the girls is intimidating - they’re idol trainees, after all. but gyuri is confident only, perhaps, in her voice.
fastforward.
it goes to her head. she takes to the idol life like a fish returned to water. she lives and breathes it. she likes their songs, the choreography is easier and easier as she’s pushed to practicing until she’s worn to the bone. a strict diet takes care of the baby fat.
and then -
pause.
they put her in a drama. a stupid, silly, role that means nothing. she’s good enough though, and people like her face. that’s most of what matters these days. she gets another offer, and now she’s got a taste for it. she’s alright with it, at least. she wants to sing, sure. she wants the stage, true. but she’s no dancer, and she’s got a shelf life. she knows how it goes for women in this industry.
of course, there is the typical criticism that always flocks in when an idol attempts to color themself as an actress. yoo gyuri might think herself special enough to escape the same treatment, but she isn’t. it is second nature to hear, read, comb through thousands of comments that speak on her voice, her looks, and now her acting. idols should know their place. she should know her place. she’s a good singer but what business does she have in trying to act? she bites her tongue, holds back wanting to scream.
perhaps it’s selfish, to want to be praised in both fields and yet she continues. there are year, or years, gaps in between, of course. she might think herself an actress but she will always be an idol first. silhouette is top priority and if she ever forgets it, the troll comments will remind her. as the years pass, she continues to do both jobs with high regards to each one.
fastforward.
she wants more. she wants roles that speak to her, she wants something serious. she wants a solo, more, she wants to make music. and she’s made a name for herself in acting, so they say maybe. maybe we’ll bring it out later. focus on what’s selling, for right now. and she does. she doesn’t know how long she’ll be spread thin, like this. she doesn’t know even if her opinion will matter in the end, or if it will, as it so often does, come down to what the public sees and knows of her, what the company presents to them.
like she’s learned from a young age, she tightens her grasp and holds on.

Chapter 10: The Light in the Darkness
Lei’s POV
The night before our Atlanta concert, while everybody was gathered in his room to watch the conclusion to his and Mark’s Mario Kart Tournament, Baekhyun decided that we weren’t having the “real Atlanta experience” unless we ate some of the local food together.
“Come on Lei!” Baekhyun said before dragging me off his bed, where I sat, laughing with Lucas when Mark took the title of champion after Baekhyun’s attempts to cheat failed. “We haven’t bonded since the camping trip!”
From the way he smiled during our ride in the elevator and while holding open the door to his car (another perk of being the leader: having independent means of transportation) for me, I expected that Baekhyun had whisked me away from the group to taunt me about Momhae.
The closest he came to teasing, though, was wiggling his eyebrows as he asked, “What’s the matter, Lei? Did I interrupt an important romantic conversation with Lucas?” Baekhyun looked so much like a little boy as he situated himself behind the steering wheel, I had to laugh at him. “Okay. So where are we going, Lei?”
Glancing at the time blinking on the radio display, Baekhyun sighed. “Well, shit, what’s even open at this hour?”
It was only 9 o’clock. Maybe it was a starless night, or maybe the city lights drowned out the stars. Still, I tried to look for anything in the sky— Baekhyun even reached up to slide some part of the ceiling to reveal an overhead window— as I answered, “A lot is open, Baek. Atlanta’s a busy city, ya know?”
I found the moon— full and distant— and Baekhyun asked, “Well, what do you want to eat?”
“What do you think the others would like?” Feeling like Baekhyun was looking at me, and therefore probably making some goofy face, I glanced over at him and was surprised to find that he was focused intently on the road ahead.
He shrugged. “Who cares what they want?” Then, as if he hadn’t dragged me along on his nighttime adventure without giving anyone else a chance to tag along, Baekhyun said, “If they wanted to have a say-so, they should have come with us.”
Baekhyun flashed that goofy grin again, and I bit back my laughter to admit that my favorite restaurant was probably Buffalo Wild Wings. So that’s where we went, and that’s where Baekhyun discovered the “Blazin’ Wings Challenge” and decided that it would be absolutely hilarious to prank everyone with the hottest wings served.
Maybe I should have done more to discourage his chaos. Maybe he wouldn’t have listened to me anyway. Maybe I was a little too surprised that he ordered chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks— my all-time favorite— for me (without having been prompted) to say anything.
Anyway, Baekhyun concealed his laughter pretty well until everyone, initially excited that we returned with food, shrieked after taking bites into their wings.
“What’s the matter?” Baekhyun chuckled from his place beside me on the carpeted floor. “I got the mildest ones on the menu! All of you are just sensitive!”
Taeyong was the only person who could take the heat. Wiping sauce from the corners of his mouth with a napkin, he asked, “Have you guys noticed that something is going on with Momager lately?” The tremor in his lips was probably less of a reaction to the food and more an expression of concern.
When Taeyong’s eyes met mine, a faint pink blush painted along the bridge of his nose, and he stifled a giggle by pretending to choke on his mouthful. This— giggling when he looked at me— was the closest he ever came to acknowledging face to face that he knew about me and Taemin.
Taeyong’s giggle prompted me to look at Taemin. Sitting beside Kai (always) he met my gaze, subtly panicked. Kai, whose lips were swollen and stained red from the hot sauce, also gawked at me with tear-filled eyes. I wondered why he didn’t stop eating considering his reaction; he must have been hungry.
Lucas, surprisingly, was the most discreet in studying my reaction to Taeyong’s question. He only dropped a half-eaten wing into its box, licked his fingers clean, and glanced at me out of the corner of his eyes as he propped his head on his knees, which were drawn up to his chest.
I didn’t have to look at Baekhyun to know that he was looking at me, holding his cheeks in his hands and watching the chaos unfold with mischievous sparkles in his eyes. I guess he was just as delighted with mayhem when he wasn’t its source.
The five of us: Taemin, Kai, Lucas, Baekhyun, and I knew what (or, more accurately, who) was on Mom’s mind. It was just a matter of discovering who would spill the beans. I had a good idea of who it would be.
Before Baekhyun quite had a chance to speak, Ten’s eyes widened curiously. “What do you mean?”
Taeyong shrugged. As if he hadn’t been worried enough to bring up Mom in the first place, he tried to lessen the situation’s urgency by calmly explaining, “I don’t know. She just frowns a lot these days, and she seems a little out of it. Do you think she’s feeling okay?”
Mark’s face was scarlet and sweating. His shifting eyes looked at me and reminded me that he witnessed Mom and Donghae’s phone call argument in the van. He didn’t know details, but Mark wasn’t nearly as oblivious as I would have liked him to be.
At first, Mark didn’t say anything. He tried to bite down on his lips, but once it was clear that nobody was going to answer Taeyong, Mark reasoned, “Momager is probably just feeling tired. You know, we’re getting pretty close to Christmas break. We all need the time to recharge, right?”
While Taeyong and Ten agreed with identical nods, I beamed at Mark for thinking of such a rational explanation. Maybe he would always try to make up for his comment in that interview even though I didn’t think he needed to.
Despite being grateful to Mark for allowing me to hold on to Mom’s secrets a little longer, I was starting to feel exhausted by the grip I clung to them with. Mom probably didn’t want SuperM to know all of her personal business— although she had a stunning lack of reaction when I told her that Baekhyun was trying to blackmail her— and I wasn’t dying to explain it to them or anything, but since the Great Come Apart in Grandma’s dining room, it seemed like the secrets that once towered over me, glowered down at me, threatened to define me were as tiny as a speck of dust.
It was true. Mom was the idol who never debuted. But she was so much more. She was the one who could fix anyone’s problem. She was the one every idol knew and loved.
More importantly, she was the person I admired most in all the world because, well, she had always been there. Mom was there before any spotlight. Mom’s eyes were trained on me before anyone else’s, and her eyes were never critical. My mom— she was beautiful— and everything I was was a reflection of her.
I had been considering what it meant to be the fulfillment of her dreams, and it meant that I couldn’t be afraid. It meant I didn’t have to be. There was liberation in the fact that I could be confident in the truth that no matter what anybody in that hotel room, in the country, in the whole world even (!) said or thought or did, I now knew who I was. I knew who Mom was. I knew that no matter what— come what may— we would love each other forever.
All along, I had the forever love I couldn’t admit to wanting, and that’s why I didn’t wince or roll my eyes or sigh or feel the slightest tremor in my chest when Baekhyun said, “Maybe Mom caught whatever bug kept her from Donghae’s party.” Baekhyun’s tongue darted between his lips to lick at the hot sauce gathered around his smile.
I can’t explain why I didn’t feel any sort of rage toward Baekhyun even as Taemin, Kai, Lucas, and Mark cut their eyes at him. I don’t understand why I almost laughed at Baekhyun’s childish little smirk. “Yeah. Maybe she did.”
I don’t understand why Baekhyun was not at all surprised by my reaction. His smile only grew into something a little more genuine before I looked away, distracted by Ten’s gasp.
Ever the gossip, Ten leaned forward and shrieked, jaw dropped, “She didn’t go to Donghae’s party?”
Seeming to sense my lack of anxiety, Lucas laughed and launched a particularly greasy fry at Ten who, of course, caught it in his mouth with a smirk. “You would’ve noticed if you weren’t too busy drinking and dancing like an idiot with Hendery!”
“Wait.” Taeyong’s eyebrows knit together. “Is Momager sick? Donghae’s party was just before we left. What if she didn’t have time to recover? All this touring can’t be good for her health, and—”
Baekhyun caught my eyes briefly before blurting, “Obviously, Taeyong, Mom was faking.” He patted Taeyong’s shoulder. “No need to waste your empathy on a fake illness!”
Mark shook his head. “Nah, man. There’s no way. Mom loves Super Junior. She wouldn’t skip the party unless she really had to.” Raising his eyebrows at me, Mark wordlessly asked, “Right, Lei?”
At that, everybody turned to face me.
And I didn’t know what to say.
Taemin spoke up softly, lips still pretty despite being painfully swollen from Baekhyun’s silly hot wing prank. “I think we should mind our own business.”
Although Kai seconded, “Yeah,” with the slight nod of his head, Baekhyun argued, “You can’t blame the others—” he pointed at Ten, Taeyong, and Mark— “for wanting to know about Momhae’s 15 years of unrequited love!”
If looks could kill, Taemin would have murdered Baekhyun with a glance. I wonder what Taemin might have said had Lucas not made me laugh by jumping to his feet to debate, “Dude, that love is totally requited!”
I knew my reaction to this situation was wrong because Baekhyun and I were the only people laughing. I thought he sat next to me to set my world ablaze, but when he doubled over in laughter and laid his head of floppy blonde hair in my lap atop my polka-dotted pajama bottoms, I almost wanted to imagine that Baekhyun was there to encourage my laughter. That wasn’t the first time we laughed together in the wrong place at the wrong time, but as I cradled my face in my hands, I thought maybe it had been too long since the last time.
Kicking at us, Kai growled, “What the hell is wrong with you two? Get off of Lei, Baekhyun. Idiot.”
Baekhyun sat upright, likely spurred when I started bouncing my leg. “Sorry,” he said insincerely, “that was just hilarious!” Moments passed in relative silence before Baekhyun hummed, “What were we talking about?”
Taeyong’s face was contorted in bewilderment. “What the hell is a Momhae?”
Still standing over everyone, Lucas crossed his arms. As if it were obvious— and maybe it was— Lucas answered, “Mom and Donghae.”
“That’s a good ship name,” Mark assessed.
And Baekyun smiled. “Thanks! I came up with that!”
Ten cocked his head to the side. “Wait. Why did Baekhyun know about Momhae before I did?”
“Yeah.” I turned to face Baekhyun, and he almost distracted me with a funny face. “How did you find out about Mom and Donghae? Sehun didn’t tell you. He promised not to tell you if Donghae told him anything.”
Baekhyun raised his eyebrows and asked through pouting lips, “Are you sure Sehun’s really loyal to you?”
Without hesitating, I firmly nodded my head. At that point, for some reason, there was no doubt in my mind that Sehun hadn’t aided in Baekhyun’s quest for information. Maybe I wanted so badly to believe that Sehun was my ally— that we were somehow friends— that there was no room to question his motives.
“How romantic!” Baekhyun squealed and pinched my cheeks. When I kept staring at him, demanding an explanation for his knowledge, Baekhyun’s grin faltered. He, who I never knew to speak in anything other than a bright shout, mumbled, “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”
The others had descended into chatter among themselves, so I challenged Baekhyun, troubled by the absence of mischief in his eyes. “Try me. You’ve been chaotic enough lately that I think you owe me an explanation or two.”
Baekhyun stared at me blankly. Once I smiled, he laughed. “I—”
His voice fell off as we felt Taemin’s eyes on us. Taemin’s stare wasn’t jealous— why would it be?— or in any way disapproving, but Baekhyun seemed to find something in it that I couldn’t. Shaking his head, Baekhyun huffed, “Maybe some other time, Lei.”
My simultaneous intrigue and disappointment at the ambiguity of Baekhyun’s answer— my frustration that he was always impossible to understand— was all short-lived. Across the room, Taemin’s eyes crinkled fondly as Kai muttered something to him, and suddenly I was too breathless to notice anything or anybody else.
I was too breathless to notice that Ten was talking to me until he crouched in front of me and flicked the center of my forehead. “Hey! I was talking to you! Stop gawking at your boyfriend and answer me!”
Taemin and I drew gasps that were suspicious enough before Lucas yelled, “Taemin and Lei aren’t dating!”
Ten might have been joking around about having caught me staring at Taemin, but Lucas’s outburst couldn’t have made our relationship more obvious. As Ten smirked at having accidentally stumbled upon a truth, Baekhyun barked, “Just repeat your dumb question, Ten! Nobody wants to hear about Taemin and Lei’s love life!”
It wasn’t like Baekhyun to pass on an opportunity to make me squirm, but I was too grateful that he used his authority as the leader to silence Ten to meet his eyes. I was so relieved that I could only fix my sight on Ten in anticipation of his question when Mark mumbled, “I don’t know. I kinda wanna know what’s going with Lei and Taemin.”
After Taeyong hushed Mark by placing a hand on his shoulder, and Ten swallowed his desire to tease me after shooting a glance at Baekhyun, Ten asked, “So what’s our plan to make Momhae a reality?”
I wheezed. “What?”
There was no plan. I didn’t believe in meddling in others’ personal affairs. Mom had her reasons for rejecting Donghae’s confessions all those years, and it was not my place to force her to reconsider.
If you really want to know my opinion, I didn’t approve of Donghae’s recent behavior. I think maybe some people liked to be chased, but I have always thought that it takes love to accept “no” as an answer. I have always thought there was a certain beauty in saying “not yet.” There was something special about believing that destiny doesn’t have to be forced.
Everything in me balked at the idea of forcing the hand of fate.
Besides, Mom was capable of pursuing Donghae when she was ready. Evidently, he was just a phone call away. Maybe he was getting desperate in those days, but I imagined that if he were capable of moving on, he would have already.
I didn’t know if Mom and Donghae would end up together. I just wanted to believe that if they were meant to be, they would. I wanted to believe that I wouldn’t lose any sleep if they were strained for the rest of our lives. Above all, I knew that I didn’t want to help SuperM make real emotions into a joke.
Maybe they weren’t trying to make it a joke, though.
Looking like he stood on the brink of tears, Mark confessed, “I don’t think I can live comfortably knowing that Donghae has been pining after Momager for 15 years. That’s a long time to walk around with a broken heart.”
All at once, it hit me that 15 years was most of my life. In my loyalty to Mom, had I forgotten those sad dimples that formed in Donghae’s chin when he realized that she hadn’t come to his birthday party? Had I forgotten how his voice wavered when he vowed to fix whatever kept them apart?
Mark’s empathy for Donghae reminded me of mine.
“Well I’m concerned about Mom!” Lucas’s eyes were rounded. He also looked like he was about to cry. Maybe it wasn’t just a topic of gossip for him. “Just look at Donghae! There’s no way she hasn’t fallen for him. And even if I’m wrong— even if she doesn’t love him the way he loves her— do you really think she doesn’t feel the burden of breaking his heart?”
I told you: I never stopped being surprised at how perceptive Lucas was.
I opened my mouth to tell him that Mom was okay. And even if she wasn’t right now, she would be. He didn’t have to hug his knees like that. He didn’t have to frown like that. He didn’t have to squeeze my heart with his sadness like that. It would be okay.
Taeyong, the sole voice of reason, dictated, “Of course, it’s all very sad, but we are not getting involved in Momager’s personal business.”
Ten, Mark, and Lucas groaned in discontent, so Taeyong looked to Baekhyun for support.
But before Baekhyun could assert his opinion on the matter, Mom burst through the door. “Baekhyun, where is—” Mom must have found or forgotten what she was looking for. Her question changed. “What are all of you doing in here? It’s past curfew.”
Mom didn’t pause long enough for anyone to answer. She waved a hand dismissively. “Nevermind. All of you, go back to your— Oh my God! Kai, are you okay?”
Following her concerned gaze, I saw that Kai’s face had swollen red, especially around the lips. Is that why he had gone so silent? I worried that he was having an allergic reaction until he replied in a normal voice, “Yeah. I’m okay.”
Probably concerned that Kai’s face wouldn’t return to normal before tomorrow’s concert, Mom sighed raggedly. “Okay. Good.”
Nobody stood to return their rooms, so she put her hands on her hips and narrowed her eyes at our defiance. “Seriously, guys, go to bed! Why are none of you even meeting my eyes?”
I had been searching Mom’s face for confirmation that she was okay. A glance around the room revealed that everybody was staring guiltily at their empty to-go boxes. They were reacting as I had when I first learned pieces of Mom’s identity; they were trying to reconcile Mom the manager with Mom the human, who felt love and heartache.
When they looked up from their puzzle pieces to look to Baekhyun to answer as their leader, they probably didn’t expect him to ask without any trace of a grin, “Ma’am, are you ever going to accept Donghae’s confession?”
If Mom was surprised by Baekhyun’s question, I couldn’t tell from her mere blinking. She wasn’t the same person who stood motionless in the dance studio just months ago when Baekhyun alleged that she was the idol who never debuted. I wondered if she was proud to seem more human to us. I wondered if she found more pieces of herself; I wondered if she loved them as much as I did.
Mom must have been moved by our genuine concern. “Thank you for asking, Baekhyun, but it’s really none of your business.”
Baekhyun’s lips tucked into a thin frown as he nodded his head.
“Now go to bed,” Mom instructed softly. “We have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow.”
And so the others, as they rose to unsteady feet, understood that there was nothing they could say or do rush the hands of fate. Silently, we understood that we could only hope that things would work out in the way we imagined was best.
I don’t know why that truth, which had existed since the dawn of time, took our breath away. I think the truth must be different once you know it. I think none of us felt quite as helpless as we did when we parted ways to return to our rooms.
Laying my head against Taemin’s chest, I said, “Everything will be okay.” My voice wasn’t quite mine, though, because I was just repeating what Mom told me in Grandma’s dining room. I told myself that wanting to believe is as good as believing, but they were never the same thing.
Taemin repeated, “Everything will be okay.” His voice was the light in the darkness. I thought that if I just stayed close to Taemin, I could learn to burn that bright.

Ex — oh sehun
oh sehun x gender neutral!reader ft. Baekhyun
word count – 1.5K
genre – college!au | angst | cheating | happy ending
warnings – cheating, breakups etc
synopsis – you've become the project partner of your ex's new boyfriend. A relationship the both of you left on clifhanger.
"Jagi?" Sehun called out, entering the dorm room as he began taking his shoes off along with the denim jacket he had on all day. "Babe?" He asked again, furrowing his brows when he didn't get a response, he heard giggling coming from his boyfriend's room, he knew there was nothing to worry about, Beakhyun just probably didn't hear him. He opened the door, finding Beakhyun behind his study desk and... [Y/N] sitting on his boyfriend's bed behind a pile of economics papers.
"Sehunnie," Baekhyun chuckled nervously, but a bright smile on his face, "When did you arrive?"
Sehun kept his brows furrowed, but also kept his eyes locked with yours, practically death glares sent your way, though you sent him a smile, one that annoyed him. "Just now," Sehun confirmed, now looking at Baekhyun, a proper smile on his face, "I'll be... Anywhere but here."
Sehun exited the room, and Baekhyun looked at you, knowing why he was being so passive-aggressive, "Sorry, I didn't think—"
You waved your hands in front of your now economics partner, brushing off his apology, "Trust me, don't worry about it, it's in the past."
"I mean, yeah." Baekhyun was still a bit in the dark with your relationship with Sehun, he knows you two were dating at a point of time, not too long before him and Sehun began going out, though he never knew why his boyfriend was so hostile to you. He just assumed it wasn't his place to ask, they've only been dating for a month and thought that Sehun will eventually tell him; but it wasn't exactly the case, and Baekhyun didn't want to make it seem like he's prying. He wasn't going to lie though, part of him was envious of the fact that you know so much and refused to let out anything about your year-long relationship with Sehun.

"Why are you still here?" Sehun had left his boyfriend's dorm room as soon as he entered, going back to his own and hoping to find you no longer at Baekhyun's when he returns. Much to his dismay, his hopes weren't accepted.
You put the glass of water in your hand down onto the kitchen island, turning to Sehun at the front door. "Baek is asleep, thought it would be a good idea to wait for you to drop by then leave," you said, "He shut down halfway through our last couple of questions, I thought he might be sick or whatever. Better safe than sorry kinda thing."
Sehun nodded. Closing the door carefully. The time was close to eleven, the campus lights outside coming through from the windows, plus the small night light next to the television was on, it made the atmosphere less dense and even made Sehun a little tired after studying for a few hours.
"I hope you know I'm not stalking you," you suddenly said, "It was pure coincidence that Baekhyun was signed as my partner for the final..."
Sehun chuckled, leaning against the wall that was on the right of the kitchen island, his arms crossed as he took a moment to gaze at your facial features. "I didn't think you were, but then again, major coincidence."
You smiled at that, and went to put the glass into the sink then looking over at Sehun, "Treat Baekhyun well, yeah? He's a sweet guy."
Sehun scoffed, "Don't worry, I'm not breaking up with him eight months prior to fly off to the United States," he said, keeping his stance against the wall, "Only to end up not going."
Ouch. You felt that stab in your chest and tiny goosebumps along your arms at the final comment. You sighed, placing both hands on the edge of the counter to hold onto it, looking down at the marble. "Not my finest moment," you said, a guilty aired-chuckle leaving your lips, "I do regret it. Honestly."
Sehun swallowed hard, "Then why did you do it?"
"I didn't want any form of attachments when I left..." You didn't want to admit it, but it felt good to say it out loud to the person who needed to hear it, "You know; new city, new life complex... I didn't want to have to go through that heartbreak of potentially not seeing you again..."
Sehun stayed quiet like he was thinking of his next words. He was thankful for the closure, it was something he craved for when you broke up with him, but he didn't know what to take it as now.
You spoke up despite all the silence, "I really did love you. I still do, I don't think I ever stopped. But... I'm a whole month too late, you're with Baekhyun now."
Sehun lifted himself off the wall, walking up to you with so much caution you can see the reluctance on his face. It promoted you to stand up straight, hands off the bench and instead by your side as Sehun bought himself closer to you, close enough that you're able to see every speck of light brown in his dark eyes. He lifted his hand so it gently cupped your cheek, not yet saying a word, but every thought running through his head was very much visible on his face. "I shouldn't be doing this."
"Nobody is telling you to," you chuckled lightly, placing your hand over the one caressing your cheek. "But then again, nobody is stopping you either..."
Sehun took another moment to memorise the curve of your lips, the line from your jaw that meets your chin and the small space between your parted lips. Sehun leaned forward, his head tilted to the side ever so slightly, his mouth mere millimetres away from yours.
It started off slow like you were both getting familiarising with the feeling that was once so familiar. He fucking missed this, the taste of your lips on his, the affection radiating from each other; it made him want more, craving your intimacy so much more than he realised.
Sehun's hand moved down to the back of your neck to bring the two of you as close as possible, pushing you against the edge of the kitchen island. Your hand moved behind you and onto the marble out of reflex, keeping yourself steady while Sehun locked his hand on the corner for the same reason.
"Please," Sehun said, not stopping his heated movements, "Please don't leave me again."
You nodded immediately, only for Sehun to lift you up onto the bench, standing close between your legs while his hands gripped your hips as if he thought you'd run away if he ever let go. You knew that was the case, so you wrapped your arm around his neck and bought him close, telling him you weren't going anywhere; just without the words. Both your kisses becoming slower and softer as the two of you began running out of breath.
Sehun pulled away gently, his hands still firm on your hips, but you were now graciously trailing your thumb up and down his cheekbone, bring it slowly down to his pump lips, dragging it across the lips that you craved for months. Sehun smiled at you, sad eyes locked with yours, "I missed you so much."
You looked at him with guilt though, remembering that no matter what changes between you and Sehun now, he's still in a relationship with someone else, "Sehun, but what about Baek...?"
Sehun's eyes went wide, immediately closing it tightly as soon as he remembered that was the case. "I- Don't worry, I swear, I'll figure something out," he promised, bringing his head up to peck your lips quickly. "You're all I want."
Reluctantly, you nodded. A pin of guilt evident on your face, but seeing Sehun smile at you like a child at a candy store made it disappear quickly. "I have to go, though," You said, chuckling lightly, "It's way past midnight and my friend is probably waiting for me."
"Come to my dorm, my roommate is with their girlfriend," Sehun said, placing another peck on your lips.
You thought the guilt might hit you hard later, you looked over at Baekhyun's room, thinking about how he was going to react to the news. "Okay," you looked back at Sehun, smiled obvious on your expression, "Let's go."
God, you missed him so much.

P.S I changed some things compared to the first version. :D
At the age of 11, Sophia began her new life as a witch and it wasn’t easy. She wouldn’t have believed it if it wasn’t for the fact that she was on a train to a school she had never heard of before. Stuck with a loud mouth named Baekhyun who talked her ear off about his parents’ work in a thing called the Ministry of Magic, a guy who ignored everyone with a book in his hand named Jongdae who was there because his friend’s compartment was full, and a knight in shining armor named Chanyeol. Baekhyun repeatedly compared him to a guy named Cedric Diggory who Sophia knew nothing about, but she shrugged it off and pretended she did.
These guys were different from her. Sure, they were all first years like her, but they adapted so well with just being on a train to a magic school, it worried her. Was she one of the only ones that were raised by non-magic people? Would that make her different? And when asked about her parents, Sophia panicked. To see how they perked up, even Jongdae with his head was still behind the book peeked up for a momentarily glance, in wonder of what her parents did. Did wizards even have doctors and lawyers in their world? Were there wizards who had normal non-magic jobs? If not, well her parents would be the exception.
Jongdae’s eyebrow rose as he looked up from his book, “A doctor and a lawyer?” He scoffed a clear look of disgust in his eyes and she drew back as if a snake was about to attack her, “What kind of wizard would want some muggle job?”
Sophia’s face paled at his words. Had no wizard stepped outside of the Wizarding world?
Baekhyun nudged Jongdae, “Knock it off. Not every wizard stayed away from the muggles, like you oh so gracious purebloods.” There was a tension between the two as Baekhyun spoke, “Look at Harry Potter, a half-blood and a hero of the world. He’s a friend of muggles and wizards.” Jongdae sneered at the remark before opening his book again to ignore the group. Baekhyun eyed him for a moment before he returned his gaze to Sophia. He gave her a smile as he spoke again, “Ignore him. He’s a brat. I’m sure he’d end up in Slytherin with that attitude” his eyes lit up. “What about you? Where do you want to go?”
Sophia shrugged, “I-I haven’t really thought about it.” She knew the conversation had to end. It would only be time before they knew she wasn’t like them. That she had parents with no magic. That she had no idea what was going on… Sophia stifled a fake yawn earning a frown from Chanyeol.
“Hey Baekhyun, right? Maybe you should leave her be for a bit.” Chanyeol turned and smiled at her, “We still have a couple hours before we arrive, you should sleep.”
Sophia nodded as she stretched out on the seat cushion. Being the only girl, the three boys decided to sit on one side so as to not block her in and Sophia was thankful as it gave her time to prepare. She took out her phone, put her headphones in her ears, and rested on the cushion silently pleading with herself to get some sleep.
Luck was on her side, as she was able to lull herself to sleep, but was later awoken by Chanyeol’s gentle shakes. Sophia groaned as she pulled out a headphone. “Hey, we’re close. You need to grab your robes” he smiled before exiting the cabin to buy one last snack from the trolley.
She was rounded up and led by a giant man who called himself Hagrid to boats with the other first years. Sophia ended up in a boat with a girl named Tatiana who had yet to look up from her book, Baekhyun having somehow managed to get on the boat having almost fallen into the lake, a boy named River, and another girl named Dahlia who seemed to stare off into the dark talking about things Sophia had no idea about. Though rather cramped, she was thankful to have Baekhyun with her. He definitely helped lift her fear of being alone even if she did find him rather annoying.
Sophia was in awe as she stared at the castle the moment she saw it. Led by the same giant man with a face full of hair, they ascended to the castle. In the mix of the cluster of first years, she tried to focus on moving in fear of being trampled by the silent crowd. The chatter stopped upon arriving at Hogwarts. Either out of nerves or in shock, Sophia couldn’t tell, but it even had Baekhyun tight-lipped which she couldn’t help but appreciate.
The man led them inside where another man, smaller in size and height, stood. He wore a robe similar to the first years, but a red emblem set it apart from them. He stumbled on the step as he met them a third of the way. He straightened himself straight immediately after as if it never happened, “Welcome to Hogwarts!” He said with excitement. “We’ll-Headmistress said I should be stern about this” he cleared his throat. “Welcome to Hogwarts” he repeated his voice deeper than the first time. He gave a nod as if to approve of his tone. “We will start the start-of-term banquet in a few minutes. Before you take your seats behind this door—umm in the Great Hall I mean that’s what it’s called—Before you sit you will be sorted” his cheeks reddened as he tried to figure out what he needed to say. He pulled out a paper from his robe and shook it, “Of course, that bloody cat had to spill water on my cards.”
“I think that’s Professor Longbottom” River whispered to no one in particular.
A girl giggled, “Him? No way! Professor Longbottom is supposed to be a total hunk not a total loser. I mean he helped THE Harry Potter put an end to the second Wizarding War.”
Sophia’s ears perked. A Wizarding war? They had one of those? This Harry Potter guy had been mentioned several times from the moment she got to Hogwarts Express to this moment. Just who was this guy and why was he so famous?
“—findor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Please wait here a moment and I will retrieve you. The sorting will take place in front of the entire school.” Professor Longbottom scurried through the large doors of the Great Hall.
Sophia nudged Baekhyun, “What was he talking about just now?”
“Our houses! We’re getting sorted in front of the whole school. Exciting” he clapped.
Jongdae snorted, “Oh yea so excited. Unless you’re humiliated by going somewhere like Gryffindor. Especially if you’re a pureblood, right Tatiana?”
Tatiana looked from her book and gave him an exasperated look, “I don’t see why Gryffindor would be bad. I think each house has its own qualities and are each good to be in.”
Jongdae’s lips pressed together in annoyance just as the door opened and the students were led into the Great Hall. Upon entering, gasps echoed through the large room. Floating above them, candles that reminded Sophia of a starry night. Four rows of tables stretched down towards a platform where older people, some of the professors Sophia assumed, sat. One of the boys near her began reciting a history about the hall that has Sophia fighting the urge to roll her eyes.
Professor Longbottom led them between tables that were decorated with blue and green towards the professors. A woman in the center of the staff stood. An aura of authority and power surrounded her. Sophia felt goosebumps as she shuddered under the woman’s intense gaze. Sophia caught a glimpse of Professor Longbottom freeze under the woman’s gaze. He cleared his throat as he took the steps to the platform. Pulling out his wand, his mouth moved, but his words were mute.
“W-Welcome to Hogwarts! We will start–Wait I already said that outside, right?” His eyes strayed to the woman who shot him a disapproving look. He awkwardly pointed at the four legged stool where a raggedy patched up brown hat sat.
Sophia grimaced at the thought of that thing touching her head. How many heads did that thing touch? And how would it “sort” them? Suddenly, the hat moved and Sophia let out a surprised yelp that was concealed by other first years’ gasps. “That thing is moving!” The hat’s mouth began to move and Sophia’s wide eyes only grew as it began to sing. Her hand went to her hair as she tried to understand what she was looking at. Baekhyun touched her shoulder in concern. “Ho-how? Objects don’t just–do that!” Her eyes were wide with fear and bewilderment as she sought for answers.
Jongdae scoffed, “You’re ridiculous. Stop acting like some muggle.”
Crap… She froze for a moment. Just be normal… this is normal– with a deep breath, she straightened up and swallowed harshly. Baekhyun squeezed her shoulder, but she refused to look his way as she fought off the blush of embarrassment. She could see the strands of her teal hair in her face mixing with specks of pink. Sophia brushed the strands back and quickly moved her hood on the robe up to cover her hair catching curious glances by the students around her. Seeing as none of them had their hair randomly change on mood, she didn’t want to stick out more as a freak.
Tatiana jabbed Jongdae with her elbow to silence him as she gave Sophia a quick apology for her friend’s behavior. Jongdae grimaced as he held his sore side, “Bloody Amazonian…” Tatiana rolled her eyes as she watched the hat.
Sophia had to be normal. To the people around her, she was another witch. Someone with parents who were like her. People who were normal wizards in this new world. But the unease she felt suffocated her.
Once her hair returned to its vibrant teal, Sophia’s hood fell back over her shoulders. As the song concluded, Professor Longbottom began to call each first year alphabetically. Sophia studied how each walked up, had the hat placed on their head, and headed towards a table that the hat told was their new home. She watched as Baekhyun approached with a large smile. There wasn’t a nervous aura around him as if he already knew his fate with the hat. The hat belted out Hufflepuff only seconds before it even touched his head and the yellow table cheered loudly as they jumped up from their seats. Baekhyun flashed her a peace sign as he headed towards the table and shook heads with people.
In her head, she followed the alphabet from B to D and as the professor called out the names, her dread grew. “Sophia Finley!” Professor Longbottom shouted.
Sophia sucked in a breath as she headed up. Her heartbeat sounded in her ears as she hesitantly took her seat on the stool. Where would she go? Would she go with Baekhyun, the guy she only just met but already considered her annoying friend? Or would she end up wherever Jongdae goes? As her mind reeled, she didn’t even feel Professor Longbottom place the talking hat on her head. She closed her eyes as the hat hummed while it got comfortable on her head. The hat murmured in her ear as indecisive as ever which only made her sweat bullets. The hat hadn’t been this slow with any student prior, so why now?
Another beat later. “HUFFLEPUFF!” It shouted.
“YEA!” Baehyun’s voice was heard over the roar at the Hufflepuff table.
Sophia’s eyes flew open just as the yellow table stood and cheered. Just as the people before her, she had the hat removed and made her way to the cheering table where she met a boy named Yixing who looked like he could fall asleep at any moment. Baekhyun high fived her before she took her seat right beside him. Sophia couldn’t help but smile at how quickly the table accepted her. Maybe it wouldn’t be too hard here. Maybe she would be able to fit in.
After the ceremony finished the feast began. Chanyeol joined Baekhyun and her in Hufflepuff. Jongdae was sent to Slytherin. Tatiana to Ravenclaw which caused the Slytherin table to boo her until the scary woman Sophia found out was the Headmistress named McGonagall stepped in. Dahlia was also placed in Ravenclaw while River was sent away to Gryffindor much to his disappointment. Along with Chanyeol and Baekhyun, Hufflepuff got another boy named Hyunwoo and twin girls Diana and Samantha.
Sophia watched as her new classmates talked among each other while she ate silently. Baekhyun was a chatterbox, just as he was on the train. He chatted with all the housemates around them. She looked at the array of food, all looked great, but her appetite was nonexistent. Maybe it was the nerves.
“You okay?” Her eyes glanced up to see Yixing across her with a soft yet sleepy smile. “You don’t have to be nervous, yea? Everyone here is pretty nice.” He let out a yawn as he sat up straighter.
She gave a nod as Yixing reached out and handed her a roll. “It’s just overwhelming–I nev–” She paused. “Never mind. Maybe I’m just tired.” She stuffed the roll in her mouth. Maybe eating would help. At least it can keep her too preoccupied from slipping up about herself.
Yixing wore a knowing look, but whatever he thought, he didn’t seem to voice, “Yea, I’m sure it’s exhaustion.”
Sophia met her roommates, Samantha, Diana, and Hailey who was a year older. Their things were already in their room when they arrived and Hailey went over some quick house rules that their prefect didn’t touch on. However, after the casual greetings, Sophia needed to escape. She threw her wand in her nightstand. Something she had been too scared to hold in case she accidentally broke it. She made an excuse about going to the common room despite her roommates' worried protests.
She made an easy escape to the entrance and slipped out of the Hufflepuff house. She didn’t wear a robe as she flung it off her when she entered the bedroom. She wore her favorite pastel yellow ripped skinny jeans, which now felt ironic to her due to her house colors, and a white tank top under her black cardigan. As she walked, the teal hair she managed to maintain began to fade white. Her footsteps, at first slow, grew louder as she raced down empty corridors. Her breath twisted in her lungs out of fear or from the strenuous activity, she couldn’t say. She just knew she needed out. She shoved open a wooden door feeling a pinch in her wrist as the door sprung open with a thud. Outside air rushed her and Sophia sucked it in with a shaky gasp. Her legs stopped her as she faced out to a courtyard. Her eyes tried to focus on the things around her as she stumbled into the courtyard, trying to focus--to ground herself in the present. The ground shook, or maybe it was her… She looked at the blur of the trees before her vision was glossed over with tears.
“Hey!” A pair of hands grasped her shoulders and held her steady, “Look around… Find five things you can see.” Her voice came out in a rasped gasp. “List them out loud, okay? Take a deep breath and look.”
The stranger’s voice gave her a sense of safety. Her eyes looked out at the courtyard as she tried to focus, “Trees… a fountain… grass” as she spoke, the pair of hands helped her up on her feet and led her to the fountain. She looked up to the sky, “a full moon and stars… lots of stars.”
“Okay-good. Now, four things you can touch.” Her hand touched the cold stone of the fountain as she listed it and the water and continued with a bracelet and the stranger’s arm. “Are you feeling better or should I continue?” He asked hesitantly.
Sophia shook her head, “I think I’m okay.” She heard the boy mutter a word before he held out his hand with a glass of water. “Thanks” she whispered as she took it from his hand and took a gulp. She turned her head upward to see the boy who wore a robe with a blue emblem that glowed in the moonlight.
“You must be a first year,” he stated.
Sophia let out a scoff, “And you must be Einstein or maybe a Sherlock.”
He couldn’t help but smile, “You may have meant that as an insult, but I take pride in being compared to those geniuses.” Sophia let out a giggle before taking another sip of water. “So” his smile fell as he eyed her, “What are you doing out here this late? I’m sure even your prefects told you that wondering after curfew is a big no-no.”
A shadow drew over Sophia’s face as she looked down at the glass in her hand. Her fingers twitched under the pressure she used to hold the glass in her hands. “I don’t belong here… I must have gotten that letter by mistake.” The tears began to form in her eyes and the boy’s eyes widened.
“Wait--look” he awkwardly rubbed his forehead, “It wasn’t like I was going to snitch, so you don’t need to cry…” his words did nothing to slow the tears that descended her cheeks once more. “Bloody hell--I-” he fumbled in his robe before he shoved a handkerchief towards her. “I really don’t know how to deal with people who cry. So here. Once you’re calm, we can talk.” He looked around at their surroundings, “We should be fine here as long as Peeves doesn’t try to cause us trouble.” Sophia took the handkerchief and pressed it to her face as she tried to calm her sobs once more.
Once, she was calm, Sophia talked--the words spilled from her lips before she even had a moment to think of what she was saying. All her troubles were thrown out in front of the unnamed boy. He sat there nodding periodically as she got emotional again. He was patient with her as he let her finish spilling all her secrets.
Then there was silence. Sophia had to look up just to make sure he was still beside her. He was staring off at the full moon and she found herself following his action. “To put your mind at ease, statistically, 20% of our world is made up of muggleborns. And the other 80 can be divided in half with half-bloods, like myself, and purebloods--though I’m sure they’d say they are the majority.”
“Half bloods?”
He nodded as his eyes remained on the stars, “Half muggle half wizard. My mom’s a witch and my dad is a muggle--no magic. He really finds the whole thing crazy, but he likes it because he doesn’t have to do chores around the house.” Sophia let a laugh escape her as she thought about the scenario. “Even so, the whole being a muggleborn thing is a judgement held by Slytherins. The whole house has a bad reputation- they’ll boast about their pureblood status all day as if their relatives weren’t part of the--” he stopped himself and cleared his throat, “Regardless of what the Jongdae kid said, you shouldn’t be too upset with who you are. There are people who understand how you feel better than I do. Talk to your housemates, they’re your family away from home. They’ll be more than happy to help you learn about this new addition to your life.” He stood and met her eyes at last, “Since you’re in Hufflepuff, you should talk to my friend, Yixing. He’s in your house and he’s a muggleborn. He can definitely help you out.”
“Wait--how’d you know what house I’m in?”
“You’re Sophia Finley, yea? That’s what Professor Longbottom said before you went up.”
“Right…” She let out an awkward chuckle as she got up. She dabbed her eyes with the handkerchief as her hand combed through her now blue hair. “This is all too much. Two months ago, I was normal. Going back to a private school with my friends and now I’m some witch? Objects move on their own, pictures talk, and ghosts are very much real and some are teachers? And my parents--how aren’t they magical, but I am-”
The boy pressed his hand against her mouth as he caught sight of her deep blue hair turning a slight teal under the moon’s gaze. “Don’t.” He waited a second as the teal retreated again before he pulled away, “Sorry, it’s just you were about to get yourself worked up again. You should get to your dorm, I’m sure the head girl will do a check soon. A good night’s sleep will help with the stress too.”
As the boy turned to leave, Sophia’s hand shot out and grabbed the sleeve of his robe, “Wait! I don’t know how to get bac--I’m sorry” she began to apologize when a flash of annoyance pass his face. “I’ll just look, you did a lot already.”
He sighed and held up a hand to stop her, “It’s fine. It’s fine… Come on. I know where it is.” He muttered under his breath and began to walk with Sophia fast on his heels.
Sophia hadn’t realized how far she had ran until the boy led her all the way back to her house entrance. “I don’t know the password to your house, but I’m sure you can figure out what to do from here, yea?” She nodded. “Good. Sleep well.”
He turned to leave. “Wait!” She watched him pause, “What’s your name?”
“It’s Minseok I’m in Ravenclaw” he flashed her a smile, “I’ll see you around I’m sure. Hopefully not running around late at night or crying.” He held up a hand in an attempt of a wave as he headed towards his destination, “Oh, and keep the handkerchief.”
Just as he vanished from her view, the door to the dorm opened and revealed an alert and very worried Yixing, “There you are, Sophia. I was just about to go looking for yo--Didn’t you have teal hair earlier?”
His question went unanswered as he moved aside for her to enter. She gave him a small smile as she stepped inside. Upon entering, someone jumped on her, “You’re okay!” She noticed it was Baekhyun who clung to her. “When your roommates said you were coming in here, we got worried when we didn’t see you.” He paused, “And when did you dye your hair green? Don’t get me wrong, it looks great, but still?”
“Who’s we?” She asked in confusion. Baekhyun let her go and pointed back to Chanyeol and her roommates who shot off the couches upon seeing her.
Hailey was the first to approach her with a relieved smile, “Where did you go? I almost went to the head girl to look for you.”
Sophia pressed her lips together as her fists clenched, earning questioning looks from her house mates, “I got scared…”
“Of what, silly? First day jitters?” Hailey asked as she reached out to grab her hands.
Sophia’s eyes watered as a chorus of gasps sounded. She could see her hair had once more shifted blue. “There’s something I need to tell you…” Baekhyun and Hailey hurried Sophia to the couches as Yixing slowly walked behind them. They sat her down just as she began to cry again, “I’m not like you guys. I wasn’t born knowing I’m a witch. My parents aren’t like this. They’re normal people…” She gulped, “I don’t know anything about magic or this world… I’m ju-I don’t belong here.”
The group was quiet as they absorbed her words. Yixing let out a muted chuckled, “You have every right to be here like the rest of us. I’m a muggle born, but my friends taught me about this part of the world.”
Samantha nodded, “Yea, for real. Mom’s a muggle dad’s a wizard. She had a bit of a shock when she found out.”
“Passed out when she saw our dad wave his wand to get some last minute chores done she did.” Diana grinned widely.
Yixing chuckled along with the others as he pressed his fist to his lips, “Don’t worry about fitting in. You’re in one of the best houses when it comes to loyalty and friendship. We’re kind of known for it–”
“And we’re exceptionally good finders!” Hailey added.
Baekhyun took Sophia’s hand, “We’ll teach you everything you need to know. And, if you want to keep this a secret, we won’t tell a soul, right guys?” There was a chorus of agreement.
Sophia smiled softly at the group, “Thanks…”
“Now tell me” Hailey threw herself on the couch beside Sophia as she reached out to touch her hair, “How do you change your hair without a spell and how isn’t it dying? I need your secret!”
Sophia pulled up the ends of her now light green hair and shrugged, “No clue. It’s never changed this much in a day. Maybe once a day or twice, but not this often… I’ve been able to do it since I was a baby apparently. It kind of changes when I’m feeling a really strong emotion.” Hailey’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Sophia’s hair in awe.
Yixing let out a yawn, “Yes, well, it’s getting late. We got class in the morning, so I think we should get some sleep.”
Hailey scoffed, “You’re always tired, but I guess you have a point. Night guys!” She stood with the twins, “You coming, Sophia?” The gang looked back at her waiting for what she would do next.
Sophia nodded as she stood and followed the girls back to the dorm room and they prepared for bed. Sophia situated herself in bed as she thought about Minseok and she couldn’t help but smile to herself. She turned in her bed thinking of how she could thank him before she succumbed to sleep.[Continued]

[ Lady Luck ]
Au: twoface!baekhyun | Pairing: character x reader | Warning: language, death, gore/body horror, sexual references | Rating: 16+ | Word Count: 1.6k
This is: Visage One | Visage Two

“Rough day?” A light voice questioned. Baekhyun could feel the pent up tension in his body ease, his shoulders slightly slumping as he turned around while loosening his tie. The last of his worries left him, like waves flowing from shore, ebbing away at the sight of her leaning against the hallway.
“The worst,” he mumbled, hands circling her waist, nuzzling against her neck to inhale her scent. “There’s enough as it is, trying to clean up the G.C.P.D with the corruption scandals pouring in and Moon isn’t complying. The Gazette is more interested in my dating life than my plans for the future and I just have to smile and wave like an idiot. Did you know that they started calling me Two Face down at the precinct?”
“Oh my poor baby,” she dramatically sighed, laughing in admiration when he raised his head to reveal a pout. She thumbed at his bottom lip and his hand fell to her ass, giving it a light squeeze. Arcing her eyebrow at him he just hummed, taking her thumb into his mouth, wet tongue lapping at the digit. She grasped his tie and started pulling him towards their shared bedroom.
“Come on then, Mr. Hahm. Let me see what I can do to make it better.”
When he came to the world was blurry, the only clear sensation he could feel was a splitting pain on the left side of his head. His right hand crept up to pick at the bandages on his face, starting to peel the edges back.
“Uh uh uh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you boy-o.” Baekhyun’s neck snapped in the direction of the voice, neck straining to the far left in order to be able to look out of his right eye.
The Crown Prince of Crime sat in the cushy hospital chair in the corner of the room, dressed in a white nurse’s uniform. The reaction was immediate, a coarse yell for help escaping his throat as his body jerked back and forth, the burning of his limbs too great to actually get up.
“Scream all you want. I shot the doctor and the police are running around like headless chickens at the Court House. They’re not coming.” The clown’s voice was unemotional, the lackadaisical way in which he said his words even more terrifying.
He kept still even after five minutes of watching Baekhyun struggling to lift himself up, frustrated yells and curses leaving his lips, a cracked image of the sophisticated and put together DA candidate that graced Gotham News. He was thoroughly enjoying this. He knew the Bat wouldn’t, and that thought made him laugh.
The attorney finally quieted seeing as the clown had yet to do anything. He leaned back in the bed, his right eye still furrowed at the figure in the corner.
“Why are you here?” Baekhyun accused, his right nostril flaring. The burn tape that covered half of his face still didn’t stop the wince at the burn of his torn cheek tendon stretching.
“To see you of course. Now I’ve done a lot of bad things to a lot of good people, but I have to admit, I think I really outdid myself on this one.” A proud smile strained his visage, his eyes slightly glazing over.
Baekhyun scoffed. “So what, you’ve come here to mock me?” He could feel an angry tear forming in his waterline, turning his head at the last second so the clown wouldn’t see it, he couldn’t give the madman the satisfaction. But it didn’t go unnoticed as he’d hoped, snake tongue passing over red stained lips at the sight of the liquid pain. If only his Lady Luck were here. Baekhyun didn’t see what happened to her after the attack.
White hot fury engorged Baekhyun’s pupil as he scrutinized the Joker, body trembling. “Wait. Where is she? What did you do to her?.”
Joker abruptly rose from the chair, like a marionette brought to attention, and got up close to Baekhyun, leaning in as if telling him a secret. “Oh, you don’t know?” He chuckled, a humorless, caustic sound.
“She's dead.”
The air was knocked out of Baekhyun’s lungs, the unshed tears forming a hurricane as he wailed and twisted in the hospital bed. The desperation he felt was mutating into something else. It was growing claws and gnashing teeth. His psyche was cracking like concrete, straight down the middle, his heart shattering along with it. He wanted blood. His paralyzed state prevented him from seizing a hold of the clown who just raised his hands up and backed away in mock surrender, his own figure buckling under the crazed cackles that wracked his body. This was going so well.
“I get it you know ehehe, it must be difficult to lose your other half. Especially aha, when it was y-your ahaha,” he wheezed,” prettier one.” Baekhyun felt like he was in hell, the previous screams reduced to a mixture of helpless sobs and infuriated growls, as if his soul were being split in two. Rage, earth-quaking, blind vengeance overcame him.
The Joker wasn’t done though. He had to push him, make him his pawn, his raving mad dog.
“May I ask a question?” He took the severe glare and snarling he received as his sign to continue. “You were squirming in your sleep, like you were having a very pleasant dream.” The grin that appeared on his face was predatory. He came closer from the foot of the bed, fingers skipping along Baekhyun’s left leg.
”Though I wonder, with the acid dripping down your body can your little friend still…” His eyes trailed down the blanket, whistling like a bird while raising his pointer finger up. In a sudden show of strength, Baekhyun grabbed the jester by the collar, pulling him eye level, seething at him, foaming at the mouth.
“Ok ok, aha, touchy subject, though I’m sure nobody is going to touch that anytime soon,” he tittered. “Especially since, oh what’s her face—”
Baekhyun barked out her name, spittle flying from his mouth and onto the corner of the clown’s, who licked up the drop before he continued, “Yes right, especially since she kicked the bucket. But that’s not important. Look, I wanna help you, Hahm.”
“Help us?” He grunted, skeptical at how the madman’s switch. His right eye roved across the clown, voice suddenly hushed, eye wide and desperate, “You want to help me?”
“Yes, help you. Listen, Baek, I may have pulled the trigger, but Batman and the Commisioner loaded the gun,” he said in a comic lilt. “You put your trust in a corrupt order. Am I right? You put your trust in the Bat, of all vermin, and where did that get you? A dead girlfriend and a fucked up face?” The Joker’s hand ghosted over the bandage.
Traitors, a voice spat. We have to make them pay. Punish them.
But they promised. They deserve a fair trial.
Deserve? The pigs deserve a bullet in their heads after what happened. They promised to protect you. But they just screwed us over. They screwed her over. Now we’ve lost everything because of them.
But they really tried—
Tried? Tried?! Give the Bat a gold fucking star than, get on your knees and blow Moon to thank him for the brilliant job he did. After that you can go tell the love of our life to go fuck herself and spit on her grave.
Oh God, please stop, don’t mention her. She didn’t deserve to die. It’s not fair. Baekhyun hit the left side of his head as he sobbed, a wet squelch being released from under the surgical tape with each bout of pressure.
Joker just watched on, transfixed, as Gotham’s White Knight started cracking, one part of him maliciously attacking and the other cowering. Two identities forming, one a tiny show poodle, charming and gentile. The other a rabid rottweiler, eyes rolling and teeth gnashing. The madness was being let loose. That acid must’ve really done a number on him. And boy was he gonna run with it.
“Doesn’t it ever bother you that Batman is always the one that crosses the line but never seems to lose anything?” Baekhyun bristled.
Joker pulled a gun out of the waistband of his nurse uniform, placing it in Baehyun’s hand and wrapping his fingers around it. “With life so merciless, the only thing that will forever remain faithful is chaos. Ok? Chaos is clean. Pure. Chaos doesn’t play favorites. It just kills and spares. Life. Death. Balanced. It’s fair. ”
“Fair?” Baekhyun trembled, weighing the glock in his grip.
“Yes,” the devil falsely soothed, voice grating and sinister. He lightly stroked the bandage on Baekhyun’s head, “Now are you just gonna let them get away with it? After what happened to her?”
The monster was back, rearing its ugly head. “No,” he snarled, fingers grasping the metal hilt, thumbing at the hammer, “we’re not.” He used his other hand to rip off the bandage, hissing as some pieces of skin went with it, flinging specks of blood onto the pillow.
“I’m glad you see it my way. It’s time to turn over a new leaf in this city. After all, like your slogan says,” Joker grabbed a mirror from the bedside table, turning it towards the fallen attorney.
He saw gnarled oozing skin. Part of his cheekbone and mandible were uncovered from stringy red muscle, surrounded by crusted and flaking gray skin. Patches of hair were singed off and one side of his mouth was curled in, revealing pearly white teeth hidden behind cheek tendon. Something flashed in his dead eye, nearly hanging out from the socket, the Joker staring back at his twisted grin in the smoke and tar of his clouded orb. There was a hunger there. Cereberus waiting to be let off the leash with an appetite for anarchy— to watch cities burn and symbols to fall. The Dark Knight to fall.
“The new face of Gotham, is Baekhyun Hahm.”

Dysania | Byun Baekhyun
✧ dysania - (n.) the state of finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning
✧ Genre: Hogwarts!au, fluff, a speck of angst if you squint hard enough
✧ Summary: Byun Baekhyun was, by far, the loudest man boy you had ever met. A true Gryffindor at his core, Baekhyun is determined to make sure you aren’t late to breakfast every morning. Rather, a nosy but caring Gryffindor worries for his hungry housemate who is always missing the most important meal of the day.
✧ Word Count: 2.2k
✧
A seeping, warm glow of sunlight managed to filter into the room of the tall tower, covering the floor with stripes of excellent gold and orange streaks. Silence had long consumed the dormitories of Gryffindor tower, as most of its students had since woken up and left to the common room or the Great Hall for breakfast. Of course there was the occasional straggler, struggling to drag themselves out of their rather comfortable beds and shrug on their long robes; but one particular Gryffindor fifth year student had yet to wake at all.
Another hour passed and all but one lone student had left the tower, her lips parted with quiet snores left unheard to the empty dorm. It wasn’t until something sharp had pecked her nose that she finally woke up, feeling (and looking) quite disheveled. Her eyelids struggled to remain open as she sat up in her bed, the cotton sheets curled around her bare legs. By now the sunlight had become just a bit brighter, now beaming into the mostly empty room as the tired girl let out a mighty groan similar to that of the roar of her house’s symbol.
“Morning, Una.” She grumbled to the tiny elf owl, watching as her feathered friend hopped off of her bed and onto a makeshift perch merely inches away.
She glanced over to her shabby bedside table, a puff of air blowing out from between her dry lips when her sleepy gaze landed on the rickety clock, which had been kindly gifted to her by Oh Sehun; a snarky third year Slytherin she had befriended a few months ago. It was his way of attempting to help her get a sense of time, though it had clearly failed; again.
“Another day without breakfast, I suppose.”
✧
“Miss Y/N, this is the... fifteenth time you have just barely made it to my class on time,” Snape droned on with a flat tone, a slew of soft snickers ringing in the girl’s ears as she quickly made her way to an open seat, “make sure it does not happen again.”
“Yes, professor.” She said with a sigh, though there was little to no remorse in her voice. Once the greasy haired man had turned his back to the class, she slumped down into her chair with discontent. Her stomach rumbled a bit too loudly for her liking, her cheeks burning a deep red when a few Slytherins smirked in self-amusement-
“Here, eat this so I don’t have to listen to your stomach growling every ten seconds.” An amused voice murmured beside her ear, causing her to jump in surprise. Whipping her head to the right, she just noticed who her unsuspecting seatmate happened to be, his pretty pink lips curled upright into a sort of smile, border-lining a smirk. “Do you not eat breakfast like any normal person, princess? You know, at some point you’re going to have to start waking up and eating so that I can stop being your personal caregiver.”
Byun Baekhyun, a fellow fifth year Gryffindor who was one half of the next generation of Hogwart’s pranksters. He was known to dye his hair every once in a while, and for now he was sporting a deep chestnut brown that came down in gentle waves, perfectly parted in the middle. He was friends with a majority of the school, including the likes of Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter himself - which made for some interesting gossip on his behalf.
“Did you hear that Malfoy and Potter nearly got into a hexing match last week? Malfoy says that he was sabotaged by Potter in Potions, even told me himself. Honestly, they should just make out and get it over with.”
Eyes narrowed in annoyance at his small smirk, she snatched the green apple from the spot he had placed it on the desk, almost immediately sinking her teeth into the fruit. Fuck that's good, she thought to herself, part of her pride not wanting to admit to her housemate that she was thankful for the small but filling snack - but she quickly eventually gave into his stupid grin, sending him a tiny smile of her own.
“Thank you, Baekhyun.” She thanked him quietly, almost inaudibly, before she turned her attention back to the front of the classroom where Snape was starting the lesson of the day. Fortunately for her, Baekhyun heard her soft words and took them in stride, though he couldn't help but think to himself that her smile was enough thanks in his eyes.
✧
Another day, another late start - at least, that was what Amber thought when she noticed Y/N Y/L/N still sound asleep in her bed, the blankets pulled up to her chin as her body barely showed that she was still breathing. Time and time again Amber and the other girls in the dorm they occupied had tried to wake the girl on their own, but each time they failed miserably. In fact, most of the Gryffindor girls had tried to wake her up at some point in the year, even the talented Hermione Granger - to no avail.
“Baekhyun, there is no way you’re going to make it!” A booming voice echoed in the tower, catching Amber’s attention for a moment while her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“Watch me, Chanyeol!”
The sound of quick footsteps baffled the short haired girl, only furthering her confusion and growing concern. Was Byun fucking Baekhyun trying to get into the girl’s dormitory?
By now, a shrieking sound would be blasting in the tower, a consequence of any person of the opposite gender trying to sneak their way into the girl’s part of the tower - yet there was no shriek, nor did Amber hear any sort of indication that the fifth year had slid down onto the floor of the common room.
“Morning Amber!” No fucking way. “I’m just here to wake up dear Y/N, no need to worry.” The bright brunette hummed happily, although his thin body shrunk into itself a little bit under the tomboy’s wary glare that shifted between himself and the still snoring girl buried beneath her sheets and blankets. “I swear that's it, I’m not gonna like... prank you or anything.” He insisted. When Amber finally sighed and looked away with a roll of her eyes, he mentally cheered for himself and sauntered over to the only bed with an occupant in it.
His curious gaze swept over her body as he took a moment to crouch down next to her bedside, lips pursed in deep thought. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he could’ve sworn that he saw a bead of sweat rolling down her forehead. For a moment he debated on whether he should wake her up warmly, lovingly, as his mother used to do with him whenever he slept in purely out of bad habit.
But that, of course, was thrown out the door.
“W-what the fuck!?” The startled Gryffindor groaned loudly when a sudden heavy force had toppled onto her sleeping body, a creak resounding from the springy mattress as the impact of extra weight woke the girl up immediately. Snapping her eyelids open, she glared horribly at the beaming head of chestnut hair and blaring white teeth. “Byun Baekhyun, you are a dead man-” She began to hiss in fury, sitting upright and readying her arm to swing at him.
“Woah, calm down sleeping beauty!” Blurted the slightly terrified man, who was silently taking note to never, ever, wake her up so harshly again unless he had a death wish. “I uh - I brought you a present!”
Now that peaked her curiosity.
Seeing that he had the grumpy girl’s attention, he hurriedly reached over to her bedside table and grabbed something that smelled absolutely divine, holding it out to her a bit nervously. “Um, its a chocolate chip m-muffin, there was blueberry but I erm, didn't k-know which own you liked better-” Baekhyun, the confident, goofy fifth year Gryffindor, stuttered like a nervous kid asking a girl to prom. Before he could finish his broken sentence, however, the warm muffin had been graciously taken from the palm of his hand. Nibbling on the delicious bread, the girl was fully alert and awake, her lips twitching into another painstakingly thankful grin.
“Thanks, Baek.”
Baek? That’s a new one... Baekhyun thought to himself, his heart thumping madly in his chest as she uttered the nickname and continued to nibble on her muffin, I like it.
✧
Three weeks of the same cycle had flown by. Each morning, Byun Baekhyun would somehow find his way to the top of the staircase for the girl’s dormitories and in the room belonging to Y/N, another fifth year Gryffindor he had found himself calling a dear friend - and likewise, of course. Chanyeol and Jongdae, two of his closest friends in the same year, constantly teased him about it.
“Let me get this straight; you bring Y/N, the girl who is literally known for almost always being late to classes, a chocolate chip muffin every morning so she can wake up earlier and get to breakfast in time?” The shorter Hufflepuff clarified, an eyebrow quirked in slight befuddlement as his gaze shifted between an amused Chanyeol and a blushing Baekhyun.
“For the last time, yes, that is exactly what I do. Why in the world is it such a big deal?” Baekhyun hissed in agitation and embarrassment, his long fingers nervously going to readjust his tie as the trio approached the Herbology greenhouse, careful not to accidently run into a group of giggling third years standing in the middle of the path. “She is my friend, just like you guys are.”
Chanyeol and Jongdae both rolled their eyes at their friend, making eye contact with one another and laughing silently at how fucking whipped the brunette was with his housemate. “Uh huh. Then why don’t we get fresh muffins every morning?”
“Why don’t we get bear hugs when we pass you walking to class?”
“How come we don't get annoyingly cute giggles whenever we talk?” The mischievous pair protested diligently, only to realize that their comrade had already walked a full three steps ahead and had his lanky arms wrapped around an all too familiar Gryffindor, a giggle bursting from his smiling lips. When the pair had finished catching up for a mere few seconds, the blushing girl made her way past the bemused pair of boys, holding up a hand in greeting.
“Hey guys!”
“Hey, Y/N!” They said in unison, watching as Baekhyun’s puppy-eyes followed her all the way back into the castle.
“Dude, you are so whipped.”
“Shut it, Dae!”
Now, the lonesome girl found herself perched on the sill of one of the windows belonging to the Astronomy tower, her watchful gaze looking at the quiet grounds of Hogwarts. She was in such deep thought, gazing upon the grounds, that she didn’t notice the sound of approaching footsteps climbing up the staircase of the stone tower. In fact, she only became aware of the new presence when they made themselves known - by whispering into her ear.
“Now what on earth are you doing all the way up here so late, princess?” Her shoulders shuddered in surprise at the sudden intrusion, the soothing but familiar whisper falling onto her now beating heart.
She peeked over to the side, suddenly thankful that the darkness of the night hid her red cheeks when she spotted Baekhyun’s curious yet alluring gaze. No longer dressed in his normally wrinkled uniform, the boy was dawning a simple pair of gray sweatpants and a fluffy, pale blue sweater decorated with a single dreamy cloud in the middle. He was also sporting a pair of rather large glasses, which only had the girl’s heart beating even faster than before. Curse Byun Baekhyun for being so goddamn adorable.
“I - I couldn’t sleep, Baek,” she managed to utter through parted lips, her attention fully on the taller Gryffindor as he cocked his head to the side in curiosity, “Harry knows t-that I don’t get much sleep, so he lets me stay up here for a while.” She explains, smiling fondly as she recalls the conversation she had with the boy-who-lived a couple of months ago, when he first became a prefect. The messy-haired boy had been completely understanding, explaining (but not going into detail) that he too often had sleepless nights where his brain was muddled with, well, everything. Slipping back into the present, she found herself wondering why Baekhyun’s eyebrows were knitted together in concern and some other foreign emotion she couldn’t quite figure out,
“Oh... but, why don’t you get much sleep?” The curious boy asks her, stuffing his chilly hands into his pockets. His concern only flourished as she winced at the question, and he noticed how she only curled up into a ball even more so than before.
“I - I don’t really know why, but earlier this year I started to have reoccurring nightmares,” she speaks up after a moment of silence between them, not daring to look up at Baekhyun as she talked in a hushed tone, “I asked Kyungsoo to make a potion to force me to sleep, but then the nightmares only got scarier whenever I took it. No matter what I do, they’re still there. I come up here to try and relax before bed, but I tend to end up sleeping in because of how late I go to bed.” She finishes quickly, eyes squeezed shut to avoid Baekhyun’s strong, piercing brown gaze. “Obviously I end up missing breakfast most of the time, s-so... when you started waking me up and bringing me down to eat, I guess something clicked in my brain because I’ve actually started to sleep a bit better-”
Without warning, warm lips press against her own, forcing her to stop her rambling. Her hands come up to hold the face of the boy who is kissing her, her breath hitching in her throat. All too soon he pulls away, but not too far, as he gently presses their foreheads together, his soft breath fanning against her parted lips.
“If it means that you can sleep better and actually eat every morning, I will gladly do this every day for as long as I live, Y/N.”
“That’s a bit dramatic, Baek.”
“What? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day-”
“Oh - just hush and kiss me again, before Harry catches you up here with me.”

It's Not Like That (Manhwa)

Genres: Yaoi, Romance, Webtoons
Status: Completed
Author: Gangto / Lime
Favorite Character: Lim Iro
Favorite Chapters: Chapter 22, Chapter 33, and Chapter 42

Plot Synopsis:
Under pressure from his parents, the popular BL writer applied to the liquor company "Beers." He didn't even have a speck, but he accidentally submitted an unreleased copy of his novel instead of a resume letter, which drew attention and made him pass the final exam! In particular, Baek Ho-ryeong, the president of the company, made a big mistake about the novel, and the illusion goes beyond favor and becomes love. Iro's first social life, which was firmly rooted in the spirit before he could adapt to the bitter taste of society he had never tasted.
The story is good. It is unique, hilarious, cute, and sweet. The ending is good, but I want more. I also want to see Mr. Seo and Shoi Jaewoo as a couple. I think they will be cute together.
Iro is cute and handsome. His butt is so sexy and thick. I really like him. I want to know more about his backstory. How did he start writing BL story? When did he realize he was gay? Will he ever come out with his parents? Does he have any siblings?
Baek Ho-ryeong is also hot, handsome, and hella sexy. He is also hilarious and kinda dumb. He wanted to teased Iro because he was jealous, but ended making him cry. The most hilarious part was when he gave a bouquet to Iro and the flowers means true love, and the other one break up. Although, he didn't really know the flower language and he just bought it. He is cute. He really loves and cares about Iro. He and Iro are really hot and perfect for each other. The smut parts are so sexy.
I really, really hope there will be another season, as the author said, see you next time. Not sure what the author meant, but it is either see you next season or see you in another story. Either is good, but I still want another season for this.

With soft, gentle movements, you rub off the ink on your fingers, letting the black fluid dissolve as you sigh deeply. It swirls in unnatural movements, before slowly mixing with the warm water. When you look up, you catch your reflection from the other side of the room. A young woman, bent over the white stone bowl, hair falling forward to hide most of your face. There’s streaks of black on your face as well, most likely from where you brushed the backs of your hands across your cheeks before.
Your eyes flutter a bit, struggling to keep open after the hours of hard work and the dim lighting of the candle next to you. Shaking yourself, you straighten up, pulling your hands from the grey tinted liquid and dry them on the soft towel next to you. You quickly pick up a rag and dip it in the water, before walking over to the mirror in silence. You wipe off the stains on your cheeks and neck haphazardly, before walking out into the next room with the candle in hand, plunging it into a gold glow. You could wash up properly in the morning.
The grand bedroom is completely silent as you wade through the various bundles of yellowed paper and the books sprawled across the wooden floor on the tips of your toes. When you get to the bed in the corner of the room, you sink down, setting down the candle gently. You look around once more, before pulling the soft blankets up to your chin, only leaning over to blow out the small flame flickering next to you while the entire house now falls in obsidian. There’s some familiar noises outside, crunching of pebbles beneath late traveler’s feet, and the far off sounds of horses, that softly wave you to sleep.
When the sunlight hits your face the next morning, you stay unmoving for a couple of minutes, relishing in the lingering warmth that the sun bathes you in, before slowly rolling over to get up. You tumble out of bed ungracefully, and sit up with a pout. The room looks a lot smaller now it’s completely illuminated. When your eyes glide over your handiwork of last night, you can’t help the proud smile that slips on, while you push yourself up. Yawning, you walk over to the windows and pull open the flowy white curtains, the golden fields in front now visible. It’s a bit windy out, the crops whipping back and forth gently, while dust and sand taps against the glass.
You turn to your house again, walking carefully through more stacks of perkamentus, to the kitchen. Most of those books were ready to be bound, but you ran out of linen halfway through, yesterday. You stretch your sore wrists and back with closed eyes, before picking up a thick slice of bread and quickly tug on the jacket draped over the table, walking to the door. When you push it open, you need to squint slightly, the wind picking up while your hair whips around. The field looks beautiful, honey colored durum moving up and down like waves under the bright sun. Out of the corner of your eyes though, you catch a person, and you turn to look up in curiosity. He’s sat on your stone wall, casually leaning back to regard you.
His eyes are big and bright, shining amber with specks of gold and blue, and he tilts his head sideways just a bit, while you take a small step back. He is dressed in cream, and he hops forward a small distance without leaving his elevated position, as his sandy colored hair blows back and forward around his features. He looks beautiful, inhumanly so, with a slim face and beautifully curved lips, so when you see elegantly folded tan wings sticking out from behind him, it doesn’t surprise you. Amazement does take over, and you clear your throat when he doesn’t speak. “What are you doing here?”
His eyes glimmer at the sound of your voice, like a flower opening for the first rays of sunshine, and he leans forward, face resting in his hands as he looks down at you. Then, he blinks once, before answering, voice soft and silvery, the sound tingling your head. “Awaiting.” That’s all he says, his tongue peeking out to wet his lips, eyes not leaving yours, so you shrug.
The breeze carries with the salty smell of the ocean, and you breathe in deeply, while looking over the blue mass of water far in the distance, before looking back at the man. His shoulders move up and down softly, gaze delicate but serious, while clouds blow by above. You just tilt your head at him, copying his posture, debating ever so slightly, before sighing. “Come on then.”
You don’t wait up for him, certain he doesn’t need it, choosing to look to your right, walking down the small path, as the wind falls. It only takes a couple of seconds for the mysterious figure to appear next to you without a sound, feet touching the earth while his wings fold magnificently behind him, as he keeps a bit of distance. He is a whole bit taller than you, though not a giant in any way. He moves gracefully, his feathers moving ever so slightly with a ruffle, his hands limply hanging next to his body.
He has gorgeous hands too, long and slim fingers, delicate but stable. He looks like he should have an instrument with him, though from your brief inspection, you know he doesn’t have one. In fact, everything about him seems exquisite, designed and created to be adored and cherished. When he catches your gaze, a small smile crosses his lips, pulling them up with a teasing glint. It transforms him, from exquisite to ethereal, and your heart suddenly aches. For what, you’re not sure, but it is pulling towards him, as your eyes linger on his face.
“What is it you desire, darling? Tell me.” He hums, voice thrilling you again, as he moves closer ever so slightly. You can feel a feather glide along your arm as his wings stretch out only just, making goosebumps run over your skin.
Everything. You want everything about him, pressed against you, surrounding you, encasing you in a way you’ve never wanted as desperately before. Your heart thumps loudly, as he tilts his head, smile not slipping off. You need him. And the idea seems foreign, so the words get stuck in your throat. You know the words your heart wants to spew, but stay silent, choosing to look away.
As soon as you do, the man next to you chuckles softly, huffing out a breath, before falling back more, choosing to walk behind you instead. You’re glad he does, because the words threatening to push out slide back down your throat, leaving you in a restless curiosity. Though you know of many legends, written carefully into history, you’ve never encountered someone from the higher world. His presence feels familiar, and safe, though you’ve never seen him before, not even encountered him in written lore. You consider his face and posture, but come up blank. He seems like a deity, though what kind you are not sure.
Seemingly noticing your confused expression, he speaks up again, the sound once more piercing your soul. You wonder if that sensation is ever going to feel common, though you doubt it. As he speaks, you can’t help but turn to face him, your feet continuing down the path.
A smile slips on his face again at the sight. “Something is disturbing you.” He says it in such a way that makes him sound completely solid, so you just nod, not bothering to go in against him. He hums at the sight, looking out across the scenery while you walk. “What is it, little one?”
You weave your hands together in front of you, as you tear your eyes away from him, choosing to follow his gaze instead. The village is lively, even from here, children and pets running to catch a ball, vendors dragging with carts of goods. “For a deity to come down on solid ground isn’t seen many a time. For him not to introduce his name or purpose, is even more ambiguous.”
He smiles at that, hair blowing back from his face to reveal his eyebrows. “And whomever brought deities into my name, princess?” At your incredulous expression, his lips twitch with amusement. “I, my dear, have been assigned your Guardian. A higher name or purpose doesn’t exist at this moment in time.” He seems mournful at that comment, as if the past holds secrets, not ready to be unveiled.
You don’t pull your gaze away. “My Guardian? Wherefore should I, a mere human girl, need such a grand protector of grace? Though I do laud the great honor of being chosen, I must ask, may you simply be mistaken?” He grins widely at that, while you now walk next to one another. You look up at him, as the sun seems to hit his hair like a halo, even making you more certain of a misconception. “What should I address you as then, Guardian without higher name or purpose, if not so?”
The male next to you looks from the front to regard the side of your face, grin still on his lips. “The higher realm doesn’t make faults, dear. You have been put under the watch of grace for a reason, even if it might not be clear yet.” He pauses, looking back in front. He pauses his steps then, his hands coming up to catch a white seed mid-air, as he opens them carefully, a childlike curiosity painted across his features. The little seed flies away again, carried by the soft breeze, as his amber orbs follow. “I’m nameless for most.” Another pause, before he looks back to you, where you have been waiting for him, before continuing. “You, however, can call me Baekhyun.” The sun seems to flick over his features as he announces his name, before he starts walking again, while you follow behind.
The wind runs through his feathers again as you think, eyes flitting over the sight in front of you. “Wise and virtuous. Why so?” You softly question, quickening your steps to meet his. “What made you choose a human title, preferred to a Godly one?”
Baekhyun looks back at you, eyebrows straightening out, as his big eyes find yours. “It wasn’t as much a choice as it was a punishment, princess. I had no say in the matter.”
You nod in understanding, looking back at the path. “How long has it been?”
He breathes out, the sound making your chest swell intuitively, before his lips pull up at the corners. “Only four nights. You, little one, are my first charge.” He falls silent then, as you close in on the houses, the sound of life surrounding the two of you completely.
Though you wonder if it is common for Higher beings to casually surround themselves with simple humans, Baekhyun doesn’t seem worried about following you between the houses. When he walks past, people quiet down, most averting their gaze quickly. One mother even shelters her son’s eyes, though from what you are not certain. You’ve heard of Gods being cruel or out to torment, but from what you’ve seen so far, the winged man beside you is neither. You understand the hesitation in people’s eyes though, moving a bit closer to him in an attempt to hide him from all the onlookers.
Baekhyun doesn’t seem bothered in the slightest however, eyes skimming over all the ornate beauty of the town. In front, one small girl holds her ball in hand, looking up at his figure in curiosity, her big eyes widely taking in the glowing man. You smile at her softly, and to your slight surprise, so does the person beside you. A small smile tugs on his lips as he catches eyes of her wide eyes. He walks closer agily, before sinking to sit on his heels next to the small child, as her pouty lips fall open.
Baekhyun puts a careful finger under her chin, closing it back up, while you stay a few steps behind to regard them. He whispers something you can’t hear, which makes the girl smile, as she reaches forward. Her chubby little hands find his wing, as she pets the tanned feathers with as much care she can make her little hands give. Baekhyun straightens up then, ruffling his wings from the dust slightly, eyes finding yours, then over to an older woman across the wide trail.
He walks up to her with a smile, as the woman hands him a bouquet without any protest, free of charge. The bright yellow flowers are woven together with white yellows and ambers, and bound with white linen. As he walks past you again, he smiles, tilting his head slightly while he winks. “Flowers that could almost match your beauty.”
Your heart pauses for a second, before resuming its rapid patter, as Baekhyun kneels back at the young girl. He hands her the bouquet with a smile, patting her head softly, as the girl’s eyes glim. Then he straightens up, continuing down the path as if nothing just transpired, making your feet slowly move to follow behind. Both men and women follow with their eyes as he walks past, the two of you moving through the village center in silence. You open the familiar wooden gate then, pushing through with a sigh, as you escape the harsh gazes of the people. Baekhyun follows casually behind, eyes taking in the change in scenery, as his mouth falls open in amazement. You turn with pride, facing the garden as well.
The secluded area is filled with a small pond, a giant willow hanging over the water surface, as it casts shadows on your face. When you look back at your guardian, he seems truly glowing. Not like he wasn’t bright before, but now he looks like the sun is pulling through the leaves to touch his skin. You shake your shoulders lose and walk forward, avoiding the water nicely, as he follows you slowly, eyes still taking in the pale green leaves and the white blooming flowers, that sway back and forward in the wind. This is your favorite place in the town, so serene and separated from the rest, it feels like another world. You quickly walk through the door, entering the small, cramped shop with a smile.
There are pots with plants hanging from the ceiling and on every free space in the room, filling it with streaks of bright green. You walk to the table in the back right away, as the bell rings again, signaling Baekhyun’s arrival behind yours. After a few moments, the elderly owner walk out of the back room. She’s greying, has been for several years now, but still has the same porcelain smooth skin as you have always seen her with, though she does have laugh lines next to her eyes now. She’s already carrying the soft white fabric in hand, a gentle smile on her face when she hands it over. “It has been a while since you came by, I figured you must be in need soon again.”
You thank her and fish out two gold coins, the metal heavy in your hand, sliding them across the table. “The book is almost finished, Auntie, I promise to get it to you in the next days.”
“Don’t worry about it, sweet child, you are doing an angel’s work, and you are doing it excellently. I still have two books I need to read, so you still have some time.” She nods, eyes closing as she puts her hand comfortingly over yours, before taking something from below the table, and push it into your hands with the roll of linen. It’s more paper, beautifully kept pages blank. “Keep these, will you? You have much more use for them that I do.”
You nod gratefully, bowing to her, before walking away. Baekhyun is stood in the other end of the room, dangerously leaning over some potted plants, to run his fingers over a banner. You smile, as he wobbles slightly, wings opening to balance him, as the tip of his finger slides over the black ink, one of your older pieces, following the delicate curves of the letters. “It’s eternity.” He looks up when you speak, flinching away from the paper in surprise, and looks back at you with big eyes. At his expression, you smile, walking up next to him. “The letters, it’s a work about an eternity in love, written by a philosopher from Venice. I copied it a couple of years ago.”
He glances at the page again, before blinking, voice almost a whisper. “Eternity doesn’t preserve love.” He pauses, eyes lingering on the black before turning back to you. “Can you read it?”
You fail to hide your surprise at this, eyes opening wide. “You don’t know how to read?” Many townspeople didn’t know how to read, so this shouldn’t be so shocking. Still, you stare at him in confusion.
With a frown, he shakes his head, hand now limply falling back next to his thigh. “I never had a need for anything of the sort.”
You can feel your eyes shine as you look at him now, with the knowledge he’s missed an entire world full of wonder, for longer than a lifetime, and you take his hand in calm joy. “When we get back, I’ll read you something. Then you can see if you have a need for the sort, after.”
When you open the door to your small home, your cheeks flush, as you remember how you left the house in a hurry. Baekhyun silently follows behind, wings folding to fit through the door, eyes taking everything in. He doesn’t say anything though, regarding the littered floor and walls, black ink on yellow paper everywhere. There are pages drying on the walls, folded bundles on the floor, veils of ink everywhere, and you move through with care. Your easel is set up along the wall, recently finished books stood next to it.
You pick out one, fingers gliding over the back gently, and sit down on the edge of your bed, patting the empty space next to you with a smile. The guardian walks over, clear hesitation on his face, as he lowers himself next to you. Then you flip open the book, resting it on his knees as you lean over, running your finger over the swirly shape over and over. “One of these is a letter. Letters represent certain sounds, in combination with other letters. And a cluster of letters, like this,” You pause, running your finger over the word gently, “is a word. That’s how you read. It’s really not that hard. I could teach you, if you want.”
His brows pull together, frown deep set on his face, as his thin, slender wrist moves to follow the movement of the word. He tilts his head then, humming a soft melody while he traces the black again. His big eyes seem focused deeply on the swirls, before he looks back at you, a glint in his eyes. “Can you read it for me? I want to hear.”
You nod, reading the sentences one by one, slowly letting him follow through the words as your finger follows with the rhythm. “When the Gods saw what the humans of the island had made of it, they grew furious. Powered by rage, the Gods incarcerated all habitants of Kreta, leaving the lands barren, overgrown. The human beings were sold to the God of the Underworld, as the soil regained it’s life overtime. The scorched trees grew new leaves, the dried earth cracked to reveal a soft bed of green grass and the animals returned.” You shudder despite yourself, as Baekhyun slides just a little closer, peering at the letters intently.
After a couple of minutes, you already notice he’s a fast learner, and he starts to recognize the letters in about half a day already. As he reads letters out in his head, his lips push forward in concentration, making you smile. Every new page, his interest seems to grow, eyes running over the new letters. Sometimes he needs help, looking at you with expectant eyes when he falls flat, sometimes he surprises you by reading the word out loud before you do. The words sound familiar in his soft tone, read with an unexpected determination. He doesn’t seem to get tired of reading, and you are glad to be of help, the day passing sat next to each other.
When you look up after a long while, you notice in surprise that the sun is lowering behind the horizon already, dousing everything in a honey colored sheen. You get up from the bed with a large yawn, making his amber eyes shoot up, eyebrows tilting. At his wary expression, your lips pull into a smile. “I fear that this will have to be it for today. If you want, I can read you the rest when the sun rises.” He hesitates for a second, looking at the words in his lap, before finding your eyes and nodding. You just smile wide at that, amusement coming to peek through. “You can sleep here, I’ll go get something else to sleep.”
He shakes his head at that, briskly standing from the bed, as he hands you the book with care. “I won’t be sleeping, I need to watch you. Here, sleep.” Baekhyun pulls you into the bed then, a gentle tug making you land back on the silky sheets. Though you want him to sleep as well, your eyes feel very heavy, and as soon as you get pushed down into the softness of the bed, you agree, eyes closing in an instant, a feeling of security wrapping around you.
The next morning, you wake up to the soft light tickling your face again, though this time, it feels different. When your eyes flutter open, the first thing you notice is the shadowed figure next to the bed. He’s bent over on his knees, next to one of your unfinished pages, mouth moving wordlessly, as he sounds out the words in his head. You can’t help the smile that slips on your face, though you wonder quickly if he’s slept at all.
“That one is an account of a priest, and his journey through the Andes.” You croak, sitting up with a yawn. That’s how you two spend the entire day in the same way, other obligations forgotten for hours on end, as you read him your favorite histories. Somewhere in the afternoon, you get hungry, so you need to get up to find some food, quickly returning to him with bread and fruit. He looks slightly wary, but when you pop one of the grapes in your mouth too, sitting back down, he hesitantly reaches over, taking one as well.
With the fruit still in his cheeks, he reads another sentence, eyes serious. “With the power of light and thunder, he strikes order into mankind.” At that sight, you giggle, sinking back down next to him. He smiles as well, before letting out a bright laugh, one that shakes your bones. You can’t help but stare for a moment longer, not missing the way his lips twitch, before looking back down at the book, cheeks burning from the inside out.
Again, evening falls quickly, while you show him letter after letter. His eyes glint with interest and curiosity every time you take out new books, with new letters and writings, countless stories to be unraveled. After a while, you have to get up to get a candle, not realizing how dark it truly has become. Baekhyun makes a disgruntled noise as you move, but quickly quiets down again when you come back with the light, eyes reflecting the flickering golden flame in the darkness. He doesn’t look away for a bit, before frowning softly and tearing his eyes away from you, looking down at the page again. His slim fingers trace the lines of the ink gently, as he taps the paper. “This one, what does it say?”
You bend down next to him, carefully placing down the candle next to the book and scoot closer, leaning in a bit to read the words yourself. You two are basically pressed side to side in the small space, while you let your nail trace the page. His breathing is soft, shoulders moving up and down calmly, though your heartbeat seems through the roof. “For the right and virtuous, those with great power and great fear.” You whisper, voice not willing to break the calm peace between the two of you, while Baekhyun’s lips move to repeat the words in silence.
You look at him, eyes not willing to tear away as his eyes skim the page. In this light, he looks so innocent, so glowing and pure, you want to reach out to touch him, though you don’t. You wonder when you started feeling like this, so careful around him, so bendable. His lips tremble with another soft breath, as he reads on, huffing out words he recognizes softly, a soft background noise as your eyes travel up and down his face, lit up by the soft golden waves that shroud the room.
Another long week passes in the same fashion, reading, learning, both in the same space, as you drown in different worlds and stories, your voice breaking the feeble silence to read some parts, Baekhyun’s eyes finding you when you do, the same genuine and sober expression, while he listens attentively. From the corner of your eyes, you can eventually see him yawn, an adorable sight on his delicate features, and you pause, putting your hand on the page. He looks up at you when you move from your position, sitting up, before mirroring your position with a soft, confused pout.
You smile at the sight, before pushing yourself up from the floor, turning to look outside. The moon stands high in the sky, stars twinkling brightly in the darkness. Turning back to Baekhyun, you put out your hand at him. “That’s enough for tonight. Come on.”
He looks at you for a bit, not wanting to break the silence yet, before placing his hand carefully in yours. You pull him up without any problem, bending to pick the candle from the floor with your free hand, and turn to look past him. You lead him to the bed in silence, and put the candle down at your feet, before looking up at the man next to you. There’s a frown on his face, eyebrows pulled together, as he looks at the messed up sheets, before sitting down, knees hitting the fabric with a ruffle.
He crawls to the far side of the bed, looking back at you, an unreadable glint there, and you pause. Then, he slowly reaches for your hand, tugging you onto the bed as well. He doesn’t say anything, so you sit down onto the fabric, before laying back into the fluffy blankets, eyes fluttering softly. Baekhyun hesitates, clearly at battle with himself at what is too much, as he looks down at you.
You just reach out your hands, grasping air as you whisper, voice barely audible. “Come.” You’re not sure why, but you want to feel him close to you. You don’t know what you are doing, but it feels right, and that’s all that matters at the moment. Baekhyun moves softly across the bed when you speak, eyes full of sleep, but still regarding you carefully. When he gets to you, your hands reach up to his face, fingers nimbly finding his cheeks, and pull him down toward you slowly.
His figure sinks with when you do, breathing hitching as his face comes to rest sideways on your stomach, while his wing stretches out over the empty expanse of the bed. After a long pause, he lets out a deep sigh and he melts into you a bit, face burying into you more, as if he’s given up the battle in himself. Your one hand finds his head when he lays comfortably, brushing his hair away from his face. Your fingers move through his hair slowly while you blow out the candle next to you, plunging everything into darkness.
As his chest moves up and down into the blankets, little tufts of air on your skin, you can’t help but speak up into the nightlight. “Baekhyun?” Your guardian hums softly, tilting his head to face you more, so you continue. “How does being, existing, how does it translate in the Realm of Gods? For as long as I can recall, I’ve referred to lore, and those uncertainties were always enough, since I never had other sources. Now though, I wonder what it is like, from your stance in the world. Could you tell me?” Your voice cracks at the end of your sentence, and though Baekhyun stops moving for a second, you keep pulling your fingers through his locks in the darkness, eyes focusing on the small pieces of dust flying by.
Eventually, he breathes out, nodding softly into your skin. “Chaos, mostly.” He sounds careful, and very vulnerable, so you let him continue without cutting in. “Your books speak of moral and grace, very differently than how I’ve ever experienced it before. Humans make it sound so much more noble than what it’s like. There’s no scale of good or bad. From chaos came the deities, each with their own role to balance right and wrong. But they are also very imperfect, and selfish, in their own ways. I’ve seen Gods do horrible things for their own enjoyment, or for that of others.”
“They don’t consider humans as something to keep and protect anymore, and don’t follow the old rules that were put in place by the first after the chaos. There’s no scale. There’s just them, and some rules that make up truth.” You have to wonder since when Baekhyun started considering his family as them, and not we. “They take humanity, and string it on a rope. I guess I never truly considered how separate both words are. Which begs a question- How can we know we are being a proper judge, without ever standing in the middle of the playing field?”
You hum, your free hand drawing circles on the skin of your thigh, trying to collect your thoughts, while the room lingers in a heavy silence. “You might not be in the middle of everything, but sometimes that is not a bad thing, Baekhyun. People are beautiful creatures. Wild, free, expressed and opinionated, strongly so, but also weak. We’re stubborn, proud, fiery and sometimes can get blinded. Having a higher sight can have it’s advantages, definitely when taking rational and proper decisions. They might not always be the good choices, or the bad choices, but they are the most even, well-calculated and thought out choices humans will never be able to make. Because when you are on the surface, you’re a player. Whether good or bad, is irrelevant. Though you may be able to see that now, you must see that your perception depends on where you are viewing from.”
“From the point of the opposition, they are doing the right thing. No one is ever the one to blame in their own story, Baekhyun. The Gods may not be on the same playing field, but I think it’s for the best. Though they don’t always make the best decisions, they make the most stable ones. And those who truly do enjoy tormenting humanity for their own entertainment, get punished, do they not? I’ve read many such stories, of those who are sentenced to obey rules that bind them to gravity. They crash down to earth, only to redeem themselves when they find their pure heart and intentions again. I think that those mistakes are what makes them stronger, in a way.”
Baekhyun doesn’t say anything to that, though you can tell he’s listening. His breathing is slow, deliberate, as his hand carefully finds your hip. It just stays there, it’s warmth both distracting and calming, while he chews on his words. Eventually, after a long silence, Baekhyun speaks, voice soothingly gentle. “Hedylogos.” He whispers, as your breathing pauses, listening to his careful words. “My Godly name is Hedylogos. One of the six Erotes, born from Love and War. Trapped on earth, as punishment for my past, doomed to protect those who I deceived, as a Guardian. I was one of those who crashed down to earth.” His fingers rub into your skin in search of support, while your hands hold still in his hair.
You hadn’t, for some reason, considered why Baekhyun was cast from the Higher realm before. What did he do to lose his place in Olympus, who did he deceive? For the first time, you consider Baekhyun as a Higher entity. What was he like as a God? You can hardly imagine a deity as soft and gentle as Baekhyun in Guardian form. When you move, it’s to run your hand ever so slowly over the curves and dips of his face in the dark, thumb lingering on his lips, while you whisper back. “What are they like? The other Erotes.”
Baekhyun smiles softly, you can feel it beneath your fingers, as he sighs. “My brothers are much more fortuitous than I am. They are made up of desire and longing, instead of a fruitful voice and flattery. They are all married.”
You pause, hands also holding still on his cheek and neck, before softly swirling unnamable shapes onto his soft skin. Then, a soft huff falls from your lips, as you whisper back. “You don’t need luck or longing.” Though you don’t know what forces you to answer his comment, it’s true. He doesn’t need anything to add. He’s just right, like this. You don’t know what to say after that, so when it stays silent, Baekhyun’s breathing evening out, you close your eyes as well, letting his fingers stay on your skin.
When you wake the next morning, it’s different from the days before. Not because your guardian in there, but because he’s not there. The house is silent, door open ever so slightly, making the curtains move with the soft breeze as it enters. When you turn to get out of the bed, you almost knock over the white cup placed carefully next to your feet. It’s a cup of lemon tea, still warm, and you gratefully pick it up, looking around the room. Not much seems changed, perhaps it’s a slightly bit more messy because all the books are still out, but that’s all. No winged Guardian though, so you sit up straight, sipping the tea while running a hand through your hair. You stretch your arms above your head, individually, being careful not to spill anything, before getting out. It’s still early, the sun still barely peeking over the trees, as you silently move on bare feet over the wooden floor. You pull the door closed behind you, the cool morning air nipping at your exposed shoulders, so you pull your shirt up properly, a smile slipping on your face.
Baekhyun stands, back facing you, in the golden crops, wings stretched out as wide as they can go, while the wind blows through the feathers. His wings are a lot bigger than they seem folded up, his wingspan almost four times your size. He looks so at rest like this, face taking in the sunshine with closed eyes, as his arms hold outstretched, hair blowing in the wind. You take another sip of your tea, before daring to speak up. “That won’t break your fall.” You grin, making him turn around, startled at your sudden voice.
“When will you stop sneaking up on me?” He smiles, shaking his wings slightly.
You just shrug, looking straight at him, eyes shining with deviance. “When you start being aware of your surroundings.” He blushes then, but smiles anyway, turning back towards the wind, while you walk over. It stays quiet for a bit, only the zooming of the wind and the clashing of water against the rocks in the distance audible, before you turn to him. “When you fell, where did you land?”
Baekhyun breathes out, opening his eyes, that seem more silver in this light. “In the sea. I sprained one of my wings, but it feels much better now.”
You nod, fingers gliding up your arm. “Do you think they are strong enough to lift you again?” At his comically offended expression, you laugh. “Not that you are heavy, you just haven’t used them in a while.”
He nods, smile slipping when he looks away. “They can carry you and me both, when not wounded.” He grins at that, eyes finding the horizon, as he sighs. “There’s only one way to find out if they are ready, isn’t there?” You just nod, taking a small step back, to give him his space. Baekhyun rolls his shoulders a couple of times, making the wings move with, before flapping them closed with a lot of strength. They even sound powerful, the sound of the air being moved loud and clear.
He leans forward a bit, wings fluttering in anticipation, before he pushes off, with one large movement of his wings. His shape shoots up, as his wings open and close again to carry him higher and higher away from the earth. He’s so high that you have to tilt your head all the way back. Then, he lets himself fall backwards, eyes closed as his wings pull against his body, free falling down to the ground, as the wind makes his hair whip back and forward around him. He falls without a single sound, back straight, his shape looking almost like a statue falling from the sky. You hold your breath at the sight, but he opens his wings right in time, twisting his body to fly straight over the crops, hands running through them.
You can hear him yell in victory in the distance, while you smile. His body moves so gracefully, wings spread out wide, as he comes back around, before zooming past you, the gust of air making your hair fly into your face. You cheer behind him, jumping up proudly as he makes a loop, wings moving to pull him high up again. He looks shining, sunlight reflecting off him in an ethereal way, like millions of pieces of glass catching the light. When he comes down again, he’s panting, as he comes crashing down a little too hard and rolls over the ground, as dirt flies up. He laughs though, a contented giggle as he pushes up from the floor, to sit on his bottom.
You toss yourself forward, arms swinging around his neck without thinking, as pull him into you. “That was amazing! You are amazing! You looked beautiful.” You huff out, not noticing the way he freezes up for a second, before wrapping his arms around you, pulling you even closer.
He pulls back then, pulling you both from the floor with a happy sigh, and grins down at you. “Can you teach me how to write your name?” He suddenly asks, hands somehow still resting on your hips. “I want to paint it in the sky.” He adds then, looking from your eyes to your neck, as his hands tap softly into your skin. You don’t dare to speak, so you just nod, breaking from his careful embrace to take his hand.
The day passes in a comfortable silence for most part, as you hand him the brush and ink, and some paper, that he clumsily messes up completely the first few times, though you think it is to annoy you, as he rubs splotches of black all over his face and hands, giggling brightly when you move to wipe it away with a fake frown. He doesn’t want to stop until he gets it right, so you have to feed him little pieces of peach like a small child, which makes the both of you laugh so hard, you land on the floor somehow.
Eventually, the light starts fading, as the sun sinks behind the horizon, and only when you move away to light a candle, does he give in to let you show him again. You dip the ink and lean over the paper, careful not to drip all over, like he did before, writing his name in a elegant cursive, as well as your name, a couple of times over again. In the dim lighting, you glide the black brush over the paper with clear, smooth strokes, looking to Baekhyun out of the corner of your eye. He hangs almost over your shoulder, chest all but pressed up against you and you need to keep yourself from shuddering. The candle waves unsteadily when you bend forward to dip your brush again, repeating the same motion over and over.
You can hear your guardian’s breath clearly, so close to you, the space feeling too small and too warm. When you are done with your name, you turn around in your chair, breath holding at your closeness. He’s close enough to feel his huffs of air tickle your lashes, eyes finding yours intently. The amber of his eyes seems fiery in the golden glow of the candle. With a small smile, you lift your brush, painting your thumb black, and bring it up to his face. You run your finger over his cheeks softly, the black ink drawing a straight line on his warm face, as his lips twitch in amusement. You then bring your brush up again, drawing a line from the tip of his nose all the way up to between his eyes, as you laugh at his expression.
Baekhyun laughs with then, a genuine, true laugh, and your heart swells, as he leans forward even closer. “Is that how you want to play?”
You shake your head, smile still wide, as he takes the brush from your hand, dipping it in the ink again.
He doesn’t retaliate though, smile slipping into a soft expression, as he hands it back to you. He then pulls up his sleeve to expose his forearm, as you look down at it in confusion. He smiles softly, so close to you, you can count his lashes, and you hold a breath as he tilts his head sideways. “Will you write it for me?”
You stare at him for a second, before you slowly nod, taking a gently hold of his wrist. He holds his breath as you touch the cold liquid onto his arm, letting the brush form words on his white skin, the black ink in stark contrast. It forms beautiful curves, just like how you do on paper, this word familiar to you, and you can only think of him like this. When you learned the word, you never thought you would ever get to use it, since it seemed unattainable. Now though, you’re gliding the letters on his skin like they were always meant to be there. One word. Perfect.
Baekhyun frowns when he mouths the word out loud, his whisper making your skin heat up, before his eyes find yours, soft, grateful and huge. He then smiles, as his other hand moves to cover the ink. His hand presses over his skin, squeezing as a white light comes from beneath his palm and you gasp. When he lets go, hand sliding off carefully, to reveal the ink, you put the brush down.
It seems dried, but when you lean in to look closer, it’s printed into his skin, not coming off with how many times you run your thumb over it. “Baekhyun, I-”
You get caught off guard by movement, his nose suddenly at yours and before you can get the time to think, his lips are against yours. Soft, gentle, as you lean into him, hands hovering in mid-air in surprise as his hands move to your face. Your heart explodes when he does, fingers ever so tenderly stroking your cheekbones, and you let out a whimper at the feeling, hands finding his sides.
Baekhyun presses even closer, desperate to be near you and wraps one of his arms around your waist, pulling you up from your seated position against him. His huge wings open up, wrapping loosely around the two of you like a shield, hiding you from the outside. He’s glowing, just like you are, breathing unsteady, while his tongue nudges your bottom lip. You open your mouth immediately, molding with him as his hand glides into your hair.
When you break off to breathe, he lets out a soft pant, eyes fluttering, before coming back to you, other hand finding your thigh as he lifts you. You wrap your legs around his waist, breathing hitching at the feel of him beneath you, his muscles straining as he walks around to the side of the bed, not breaking the kiss once. When he puts you down, it’s with a gentleness you’ve never experienced from anyone before, and you can’t help but want him closer to you, while your hands pull at his collar.
His teeth pull your bottom lip then, just a bit painful, and a soft moan falls from the back of your throat, as Baekhyun groans. His hands dig into your hips as he slides you backwards on the silken sheets, coming to lay between your legs, mouth leaving yours to nip at your jaw, trailing kisses down as you catch your breath. Your hands are on his shoulders, sliding over his chest, and with shaky fingers, you open the buttons, one by one, as Baekhyun pulls back from you. His eyes are big, and scared, dark dripping out when you peek your tongue out to wet your lips. He holds his breath, swallowing deeply. “I don’t- I wo-”
You cut him off with a nod, pulling him back to you, lips brushing together rougher than before, his desperate moan making you shake. You know what he means, when his hands find your middle, pushing the fabric up. He doesn’t want to take advantage of you, you know this. And even though he seems scared to make any mistakes, you’ve never felt this loved, ever. The kiss is all tongue and teeth when you pull his hips against yours with your legs, his want now clearly pressing against you. When you break away, his chest is heaving up and down rapidly, eyes filled with lust as you help him by pulling your shirt over your head, the chilly air of the room making you shiver.
At first, he seems frozen, eyes taking in the newly exposed skin, while you shy away just a bit. You’re not shy normally, but his gaze seems to look through you, straight to your core and you can’t help it. He leans forward then, slowly moving towards you and pressing his face into your neck, as he presses open mouth kisses all along the length of your neck. “Is this okay?”
Pushing his shirt off his shoulders, you hum, trying to keep your soft voice steady. “It’s perfect.”
When you speak, his wings flutter slightly, curving to cage you in, pressed into the bed as his body comes back to cover yours. His lips travel your entire skin, and you have to pull him back to your face, kissing his desperate mouth again, deeper this time, his naked chest pressed against yours. He pulls back then, settling a bit lower, his mouth finding your breast eagerly. He swipes his tongue over the hardened bud twice, before taking it into his mouth, sucking harshly, while you throw your head back.
He then switches to the other side, doing the same, while his hand pinches your nipple. He kisses all over your breasts, neck, nipping your collarbones and back down again, before you push him up, flipping him over. He falls down on his back, eyes wide as you run your nails from his neck down his chest, over his toned stomach, finding the edge of his pants. Impatiently, you push them down, his hard cock smacking up against his stomach. His breathing hitches when you lean forward, mouth all but touching him, his hands fisting into the sheets.
You put your tongue at his base, running all the way to the top, before you take him into your mouth, one hand holding his hip, other stroking him up and down while you move your mouth down his dick, immediately starting to twirl your tongue around his head. You can hear his wings flutter desperately, spread out against the bed, before he growls roughly. You don’t even get the chance to properly get started, or he’s flipped you over again, eyes closing as his hands keep steady on your hips, pulling your pants down. His fingers find your hips, digging into them harshly, as he clears his throat. “Please, angel, I need you, right now.”
You nod, equally as eager, your center already dripping for him. He lines himself up, before leaning down to kiss you, as he pushes in harshly, the combination of sweet and rough making you hiss, pulling his lip into your mouth as he smiles. He’s big, filling you up just right, and when he moves out you moan, unable to hold back. Your hands dig into his shoulders, nails pressing into the tender skin, as he pushes inside again, grunting slightly. He’s so warm, almost too much, as he glides up against you, inside you, while he pulls your leg up, hiking it higher for a better angle.
He sets a fast tempo, making you quiver from the start, body tingling in sensation. The sound of your skin molding together fill the room, while you kiss, panting every couple of seconds. He feels too close, too real and too human, but your body can’t get it’s full share no matter how desperately you long for it. You whimper softly when he pulls away from you for just a second, big eyes taking all of you in, like you are the most beautiful thing he’s ever laid eyes upon, and in that moment, you truly believe him.
He grunts, sliding inside again, making you tremble in need, as the coil in your stomach starts to wind up. “I- I’ve never-” He pauses a second, lifting your both legs over his shoulders, even closer than before as you moan. He struggles to get out of his words again, before you move your hand to his face, stroking it softly. He breathes out, a pained look on his face, as his arm slides under you to pull you flush against him, before pushing his face into the crook of your neck. “If I could pick eternity, it would be you.”
Your heart rate drops to nothing when the words fall from his mouth, and the answer immediately comes to mind. You don’t get to speak though, as he thrusts back inside, pressing his lips on yours, breathing heavily. You let out a yelp when he suddenly pulls out harshly, before turning you around on your knees. Your face down in the soft fabric, while he slides inside you again, eyes rolling back to moan, the raspy sound making the knot in your stomach tighten even more.
“Oh, don’t stop, Baekhyun, please.” He abides, pulling out and pushing back so perfectly you bite your lip until it starts bleeding, the feeling overwhelming, while your hands fist into the blankets in an attempt to stay grounded in reality. When your core starts tightening, you can feel him pick up the pace even more, a growl falling from his throat. His hand reaches around, slim fingers finding your clit, as he makes you crash over the edge with a desperate moan, squeezing around him.
He comes right after you do, leaning into your slumped frame in exhaustion, both of you fucked out. He doesn’t pull out yet, staying buried inside you for a bit, as he bends down to kiss your shoulders. Eventually, he pulls out slowly, both of you collapsing onto the bed, covered by his large, soft wings like a blanket. When you finally get the breath to speak up, you push words softly against his skin, twisting in his hold. “I can’t pick eternity, but I’d still choose you.”
Baekhyun stays silent, but pulls your body to his, warm and safe, while you burry your face into his chest, his strong arms around your smaller frame. He kisses the top of your head softly, while his fingers run patterns on your skin. It takes a while, but eventually, you can tell he’s spelling one word out, over and over again. Yours.
“Baekhyun?” You whisper, cutting the comfortable silence. You feel like you need to know, since it’s been bothering you ever since. “You spoke of your punishment briefly.” He hums, fingers now trailing down your arms, before you continue. “Who did you deceive, that was so innocent that you got thrown down to earth? What made you get cast out of Olympus?”
There’s a small smile on his lips as he answers, though a guilty look enters his eyes. “I deceived too many to count, little one. Though what got me cast out wasn’t actually deception. I saved a girl from the claws of the spirits of the Underworld. They were toying with her mind, so I toyed with theirs. I- Seduced them, made them follow me around for weeks on end, before slaying them both. Zeus cast me out of the clouds then, for killing another one of our own.”
You shudder at the sadness that’s audible in his voice, a soft tremble, before running your fingers through his hair, pushing it away from his eyes. “What did they do to her?”
“They lured her into the gates of hell, like a game, and took out her eyes. You- don’t know what it was like, her screams, I’ll never forget them. She cried in complete terror, wailing out for anyone to save her. There was nothing I could do. I don’t deal in dark powers, only deception.” He pauses, taking a deep breath. “I cut them both in two. Eleos, Goddess of mercy, found me between their two bodies.”
“I’m so sorry.” You whisper out, pausing to kiss his collarbones gently, to which he smiles gently. “You’ll be okay now though. I promise.”
He nods, chin resting on your head, as his wings flutter to stretch out. “I’ve been thinking. What if I have found my innocence in you, and could return back to Olympus.” His voice sounds happy, elated even. You frown though, looking away. You hadn’t thought about that before. Baekhyun immediately notices, and continues with a teasing smile. “I think that I should maybe follow in my brothers’ footsteps, since someone told me being alone isn’t all that great after all. And, I think Athena could use an apprentice too.”
You laugh brightly at that, pulling at him so he rolls on top of your body, while he kisses you between giggles. He pulls back a second, before kissing you wildly, grinding his hips against yours as you gasp. When you look at him, he just shrugs, bending down to kiss you again. “You are aware that I’m still one of the six Love deities, don’t act so surprised.”
