Today is all about recovery, and when I say recovery I mean the other half of your strikes. I'm a firm believer that a punch or a kick does not end when it hits the target, it ends after you return to your stance. So this example combination above gives you a way to practice that. So lead with kicks but make sure you're pulling that leg back fast and right into your stance, that way you're always prepared to immediately follow-up from a point of balance, not getting caught inbetween strikes due to a lazy recovery.
Today, with my trusty Mini Cooper packed solid with Dromgoole’s ink and pens, I am driving from one side of Missouri to the other to go to the St. Louis Pen Show. With the help of Retro 51 legend Marty and his family, we are representing Dromgoole’s at the show. We will have lots of ink, Retro 51s, Rickshaw Bagworks pen cases and, of course, a smattering of Well-Appointed Desk merchandise.

alright I guess I really do just gotta totally cut out the normal heavy lifts in favor of more power-oriented stuff
I have the obvious substitutions of squat -> jump squat, and overhead press -> push press. I would have had deadlift -> power clean, if I could just figure that out well enough to load it, lol. I suppose I can do kettlebell swings.
and then there's all the various fun med ball throws. and the hops and jumps and I guess we can put in everything multiplanar and single-leg here. I gotta pick out a concrete selection rather than what I feel like that day.
(unclear that this would be a satisfactory upper body load. I may need to go back to lifts in time)
and then there's the olympic lift preparations which is basically skills work. I don't think a huge amount of load because minimal weight, but a substantial amount of time.
I think I'd like to continue having one of my 3 available days somewhat "free". currently that may look like running, or footwork drills / bagwork, suchlike. sometimes rest day. (partly this is literally just "the gym is full on [day] at my desired time so weights tend to be occupied" rather than a strategic call, lol)
the lighter hops and skips and throws are perhaps not out of place there, though. could do the whole thing in the outdoor area which conveniently has balls and a wall and heavy bags.
anyway so yeah I gotta distribute this across the days and also figure out a progression plan. and also like, the upper body problem this is so much legs

Last practice before the tournament on Saturday. Unfortunately, I really couldn't get another student to commmit the time to come in and help. That's a shame, when you see them not putting in the time you know they can spend. But I'm not stopping or holding back for them. We worked a lot on sparring- the more and more impacts happen, the more commonplace they become. It's much easier to fight when you expect to get hit and keep moving.

Bagwork combos, kumite, Kenpo Long 1, Kihon kata, Hanbo competition kata, jusan jo kata, sanju ichi jo kata; Tedori Orange belt Tip 4 legs review; Kenpo Long 3
all that said i really miss bagwork. there's something deeply satisfying about whaling on an inanimate object. still can't believe there aren't any punching bags in any of the gyms around here
Today we're working all the way in and out. While challenging to throw 5 or more strikes in a row, you need to train yourself to be able to do it. The positional training is really how you land such prolonged combinations. Short evasions and steps can be what gets you out of the way of return fire, so you can rattle off that longer combination. Pressure and pace are an excellent weapon and tiring out an opponent with high volume striking is the Savate way.
