Came up with another concept for a possible Super Daryl Deluxe fic in the future if I can come up with more specific details for it:
A somewhat more mundane AU with no world-ending or teenager-murdering plots (man, this seems to crop up a little too often in media I like). It’d have some on-the-nose title, like “The Surprisingly Mundane Adventures of Daryl Whitelaw” or something, but it would still be a bit crazy, kinda like BakaTest (but without the summoned beasts) or maybe even Nichijou if I’m feeling ambitious.
Here are some basic ideas floating around my head:
Daryl has an overactive imagination but almost never speaks (which is pretty much canon already). Basically in this universe, even if it turned out that Daryl actually does believe the events of the game happened, it’s all in his head (which I think could actually be a funny concept, and it’s even touched upon somewhat in the game before eventually blindsiding you with a “Holy shit, this stuff is actually happening” epiphany).
Daryl can speak but is super awkward and doesn’t really know how to speak to people. On the rare occasions that Daryl does speak, he of course sounds like Napoleon Dynamite.
Instead of being an isolated girl living in the vents, Princess is something of a queen bee at the school (with Daryl being completely convinced that she’s literally royalty and an ice queen that’s waiting for a dashing prince to thaw her or whatever). She’d be kind of a Pacifica Northwest kind of character, and her name would literally just be Princess Bavarius because why not.
Eli Bavarius is not an eons-old doomsday supervillain, but something like... idk, a superintendent or some kind of government official? Someone that still has a lot of power over the school and is a bit of a dick. He can still have a skull for a face though, I think that would still fit the story. Maybe a result of the escalator incident? Will the escalator get a Historical Villain Upgrade in this? These are the real questions.
In the same vein of Eli still having the skull for a face, Vice Principal Robatto can still be a robot, again because why not.
Potential Love Interests (TM): So if Daryl is both our Archie and basically our hilariously clueless harem anime protagonist, Princess would obviously be our Veronica. Beyond that, I think Abby and Skill Sorceress (OOF, that’s going to be the hard part, coming up with names for the DnD characters. I don’t want to be calling Skill Sorceress, well, “Skill Sorceress” the entire time, and I don’t want to confuse everyone by calling her “the Homestuck” the whole time either) would make for good Bettys. Plenty of comedic potential there. As for the gay option I’m thinking... Saving Instructor (who I also need to come up with a name for because “Saving Instructor” doesn’t even make sense outside of a video game and I’m not calling him “the Weeb” the whole time either). We never see what’s under the Goku mask either, maybe he removes it at some point and he turns out to be a bishonen all along, complete with sparkles.
No, Paul and Alan will not be love interests for Daryl. I can’t do that to poor Daryl. I can do a lot of things to poor Daryl, but not that.
Possible Side Ships (TM): So right now all I’m thinking is that if I don’t end up pairing Abby with Daryl I’m probably going to pair her with either Monica or Claire, and if I don’t pair her with Claire then I'm probably going to pair Claire with Steve (insert haha funny Resident Evil joke here), but that’s pretty much all I can think of at the moment.
Non-Romantic Character Dynamic of Note (TM): I want Time Knight and his sister to be major characters. I just love their whole dynamic of the sister being like “My brother is the coolest, he’s the best brother ever and roleplaying with him is so much fun!” and meanwhile Time Knight is just the biggest delusional asshole on the planet. I don’t think we ever see them on screen together in the game so just imagining scenarios where they’re interacting is fun.
Anyway, that’s all I got for now. I mean it’s a lot to go off of, but actually coming up with a coherent plot out of this is the hard part. Only time will tell if we will see anything come out of either this or my “Super Abby Advance” idea.

(slipping outta character here)
please answer ☮️ and 😍 for kubo bakatest this is a threat /lh
Tumblr media
Ah, an ask for me? I see..
☮️ - When did you really KNOW that you and Emile were gonna be friends for life?
I-Is it really okay that I answer this? No one from school is on here, are they...?
Ah well.. I suppose it was when he came out to me. He was just so.. open about it, about being himself... Happy and... proud. He said he wants to support me, my love, my... myself in anyway he could.
We're not the exact same but, still... he gets me and I get him, more than anyone else.
😍 - Are you very affectionate to them?
Tumblr media
A-a-a-a-a-AFFECTIONATE???? No no no no no of Course Not! What if someone were to get the wrong idea and assume us a couple?? What would my dearest Yoshii think??? Why he'd be heart broken to see me do something as crass as- As HOLD HANDS in PUBLIC with Another Man!!
No no affection is for your significant other, like my dear Yoshii, or whoever it is Emile has his secret little crush on...
Though while I am not affectionate, Emile is rather.. physical. But in the Friend Way!!! In a very different and noticeable friend way as all friends do!

Kinda wanna buy cheap apples, and see if Akihisa in the novels of BakaTest is right about crushing them with one hand being hard. (“Most people can’t crush an apple in one hand. Meanwhile I know four people who can make your skull creak just by squeezing your face with one hand—and two of them are girls!”)
Hey, wear gloves, do it over a bowl—find a recipe calling for mashed apples.

Baka Test Volume 6
Kinoshita Hideyoshi: Akihisa. It seems like you’re confused, but I am interested in the opposite gender. If you in particular can’t remember that, that’s a bit of a worry for me...
...Okay, I know there’s a million jokes about Hideyoshi being the third gender but at the end of the day he is a boy and this is him basically saying he likes girls (that’s not to say he doesn’t like boys, since apparently he shows some interest in Akihisa in later novels) BUT... He at least admits he likes girls here. And in the games he said to his sister that he would prefer a girlfriend to a boyfriend, or something along those lines... INTERESTING

Yuu just wants to Rest (based on that scene from bakatest).
For the sake of clarity, deuce (and ace) calls yuuken ‘yuuken-paisen’ here instead of yuu. Prompted by maesh-molowaa’s post about how yuuken is an actual dumb dumb lolol

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - Your run-of-the-mill seasonal fanservice show turned into something charming
Baka & Test - Summon the Beasts - Winter 2010, Silver Link. - 7/10
Tumblr media
Cute and dumb boys and girls of Fumizuki Academy will take you through a sweet journey of open-minded fanservice tropes, friendship and love
In my first post about a non-seasonal, I will be covering all the pieces of BakaTest until its 2nd season: the first season, its specials, Matsuri OVA, and its specials. I’ve watched this package in what passes for a binge for my 30-something self, pretty much every moment I could throughout one week. I had started it with not many expectations, having even forgotten that a “trap” legend was among the cast. What I found was a charming surprise. BakaTest was one of those rare shows whose next episode I actually looked forward to. Whilst not every episode focused on elements I particularly liked, no episode was offensive, boring or uninteresting, and no character annoyed me. Quite surprising, since Inoue Kenji also wrote Grand Blue which I could barely stand for a full episode due to its obnoxiousness about basically the same themes (a lesson here to not judge a book by its author.) It flew by in a jiffy thanks to its light-heartedness and most importantly its cast.
The show isn’t necessarily anything unique. In fact, it relies heavily on tropes anyone who’s watched any anime would be familiar with. We have the perfect girl who is a bit frail and we have the flat childhood friend whose flatness is a constant gag. They both love our dumbass MC by virtue of him being our MC. We have the voyeur character who is constantly trying to look up girls skirts, and so on and so forth. The thing is I actually liked all of these things in BakaTest. One thing the show owes its non-vulgarity to is how sweet the girls and boys of Fumizuki Academy are. They might remind you of a supernatural version of your high school days if you liked your high school days and was in a class filled with dumbasses like I was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which high school kid doesn’t?
On an ensemble cast level, they work really well with each other and are just plain nice kids.  They are actually, genuinely friends, and that feeling coming across makes a huge difference - even if Akihisa is sacrificed every once in a while, or the boys don’t mind seeing their female friends in states of undress. It’s all give and take. Maybe the boys like seeing the girls naked (but like really, which high school boy wouldn’t?) but Himeji and Minami are also quite invested in Akihisa’s crossdressing photos (not sure I’d have wanted to see my high school crush in drag but hey, Akihisa is a bishounen.) Even someone like Muttsulini, whose sole purpose in the show is being the guy who takes upskirt pictures, didn’t bother me - a huge surprise indeed. The context provides all the relief. The entirely self-aware nature of the show possibly helps a lot in this regard. What matters is as the audience we shouldn’t be taking the show or ourselves too seriously. I don’t know whether there will come a point in season 2 where they take it too far, but so far, it is dumb comedy at its best.
Tumblr media
The size of girls’ breasts coming up in any anime is a major eye roll moment for me but I laughed out loud here. They are not wrong. Flat is flat in any country. Sorry Minami-chan!
On an individual character basis, BakaTest’s biggest success is everyone’s favorite Fumizuki student: Kinoshita Hideyoshi. His existence in the show is not only about the gag on his gender and his sexuality. His dumbness and beauty are combined perfectly to show one thing about the show - it’s not homophobic in the slightest. First of all, Akihisa (and the FFF) genuinely find him attractive. This is especially evident with his twin sister Yuuko being in the picture. She looks exactly like him and is a girl but no one ever looks at her like that. What they want is Hideyoshi!! And this is not an attempt at a social message but just the nature of the show. It’s quietly accepting, which makes it much more genuine to me than shows where diversity is forced into the narrative to make a point. We do of course have more than that in BakaTest when it comes to queerness. We have Kubo who has a crush on Akihisa, Miharu who is obsessed with her onee-sama, and half of the show is about crossdressing, literally. So if you want dumb mainstream fanservice entertainment, with actual queer acceptance, look no further!
Outside of that all, Hideyoshi is just a sweet character of his own accord. He wants everyone to know he is a guy but also, he doesn’t exactly mind being girly either. The episode where everyone loses important things to them, he is quite adamant about finding his female nurse outfit because it means a lot to him. While he is exasperated by Akihisa’s antics, he doesn’t really lose his mind trying to stop him. And he makes full use of Hideyoshi Changing Rooms, a true queen. I could gush about Hideyoshi for hours - he is just so sweet, and hot to boot. However, since there is no depth to explain, I’ll just do it visually instead.
Tumblr media
Round girl Hideyoshi introduces us to the summoning system of Fumizuki Academy.
Tumblr media
Hideyoshi in a swimsuit: the biggest rival of any Akihisa lover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He won the ladies division too.
Tumblr media
I’ll give up on the commentary, I just wanted to see him naked.
Tumblr media
Here ends my Kinoshita Hideyoshi appreciation post. Looking forward to a day where we can see his nipples.

Mairimashita Iruma-kun ep 3
Tumblr media
I was unable to watch this live with everyone else cause I didn’t know the time and the internet is crappy. So crappy my screenshots are also in terrible quality (more than it already was episodes ago).
I didn’t take a lot of screenshots cause I know I’ll just get an error if I post all of it here which sucks cause this episode is like 2-in-1. More below~
Tumblr media
New Character Alert!
It’s another misfit it seems...
Tumblr media
They gained nicknames! XD
Tumblr media
Oh no... Iruma’s weakness! He can’t say ‘No’ anymore!
Tumblr media
What the heck kind of story are you thinking?!
Tumblr media
Oh no... Asmodeus’ weakness! He can’t decline either! lol
It’s cute how they kept playing with her and it seems like they’re having fun(?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clara’s backstory: she’s too weird and hyper for anyone to tolerate so these a-holes decided to use that to ‘befriend’ her so she’d give them stuff. They were using her the entire time and they now think Iruma and Azz are doing the same.
Tumblr media
And the poor girl knew the entire time. I feel bad for her.
Tumblr media
But she doesn’t want to lose her new friends so she does the only thing she knows how to do: bribe them to stay.
Tumblr media
But of course, we know she never needed to do that! Iruma is super nice after all!
Tumblr media
She finally has real friends now so for the last time, she decides to give back to her fake friends.
Tumblr media
And to make sure they never bother her again, Iruma asks Asmodeus to talk to them about it which he totally did (he probably beat them up or something lol).
Tumblr media
Time for lunch! Asmodeus explains to us that students have rankings and depending on that is what kind of food you could order from the cafeteria (Is this BakaTest or something? haha). The cafeteria food is free but the stuff at the stalls are sold so you’d need cash for those. As they still don’t have any ranks, they have a limited list of food they can choose from.
Tumblr media
It seems they’re being bullied already. A bunch of students dump a ton of food on Iruma-kun’s table!
Tumblr media
It backfires though. You know how much this kid can eat?! A product of Iruma’s poor upbringing. I feel bad for him but at least now he can eat to his heart’s desire.
Tumblr media
After a bunch of wacky hi-jinks and getting in trouble at the cafeteria (which I couldn’t screenshot cause the internet got worse and the quality went to crap), Iruma finally got to talk to these two to tell them how they’re his first friends (aww~).
It turns out demons don’t really have a concept of ‘friendship’ so Iruma had to explain and the two were more than happy to know that they’re Iruma’s firsts (they’re fighting over who gets to be #1 friend though).
Tumblr media
They’ve been ranked and it’s perfect lol: they’re gonna be stuck with the other problem children!
It’s never a bad thing as I’ve seen in other shows. Usually the troublesome group is the liveliest and most fun and I’m looking forward to seeing them in their class next week!
PS. I checked the chat log for this episode and it’s funny how at the OP everyong just types ‘Babi babi babi’ trying to follow the song. it’s a super catchy song indeed!

Considering watching Oregairu season 3, but I’m worried that I might end up leaving it bored and possibly disappointed like I was when I finished season 2. Granted I don’t have any expectations anymore, so maybe I can bring myself to enjoy it more for what it is, but what’s really getting me is the fact that I never got very far in One Punch Man and I still haven’t gotten around to watching My Hero Academia, two anime that I am almost fully convinced that I would enjoy if I put in the time, and yet I’m willing to risk being disappointed by a series I wish I could enjoy but has burned me out in the past. Because in hindsight I do like the characters of Oregairu (well, for the most part), and I actually recall enjoying the first season quite a lot, but the second season just kinda turned me off. Doesn’t help that outside of more LGBT-friendly spaces like Tumblr I have seen so much hate for Hachiman x Saika and, well, just Saika in general. Seriously, either there’s a huge hatedom for Saika or they’re just really loud, like more than any other series that features “The Gay Option” and otokonoko-type characters and such (which at this point are increasingly becoming fan favorites just about everywhere else). I’ve even thought about putting “Unapologetic Hachiman x Saika shipper” in my bio just to spite those people, even though I have yet to reblog or even really post much about this series.
But I do find it funny that I watched Oregairu with the impression that it was a comedy about a down-on-his-luck guy with two “official” love interests who either treat him like crap or want to change everything about him, who seems to have a much stronger crush on a boy in his class than either of these two love interests that you know the story’s not going to do anything with because status quo which especially sucks because it seems like the boy reciprocates those feelings, and wacky hijinks ensue because it’s a harem slice-of-life comedy anime, and... well, it still had all of that, but it wasn’t quite what I expected--specifically the fact that the comedy and the boy just kinda get phased out in favor of boring me half to death with nothing happening for half a season--and then I watched BakaTest afterwards not knowing what to expect, and, funny enough, it basically gave me more of what I was hoping to see from Oregairu, pretty much. And wouldn’t you know it, I left BakaTest feeling not bored and not disappointed.
But I still want to give Oregairu a chance, man. I like the characters (for the most part), I like their designs, and I think their personalities work well enough off of each other, and I remember enjoying the first season a lot. I also know about the stuff that’s basically LN-exclusive that I wish I could have seen animated because, y’know, stuff I wanted to see in the anime actually happened in the LN (Hachiman/Saika/Zaimokuza BroT3, bruh, why would you make the specific, distinct decision to deprive us of funny scenes involving these three?).
But yeah... biggest thing to take away from this is that somehow I haven’t started My Hero Academia yet and I don’t know what I’m doing with my life. Hell, at least there it seems like ship drama is less of an issue, since it seems like most fans basically just agreed to ship the MC with literally everyone. Now granted this is coming from an outsider’s perspective, and MHA probably has a lot of the same issues with ship drama as every other fandom, but I still think we could learn a thing or two from the MHA fandom when trying to deal with ship wars. There was an attempt made, and that’s more than can be said for most other fandoms.

I guess when it comes down to it, BakaTest isn’t particularly ground-breaking and when I think about it, the characters are mostly awful people but... I don’t care. ;w; I love hideyoshi kinoshita this series so much!
It will always be the series that taught me how to read - like, go from looking up every single word in the dictionary, to being able to read an entire volume in a day and just guess the few words I don’t know. That’s why it’s special... Now that I’m used to the writing style, the language isn’t that difficult (minus some parts).
If Inazuma is the series that gave me passion for Japanese, Baka Test is the series that taught me how to read light novels... What does that make Muraku, I wonder...
