The white spots on his cheeks are a sort of mold, but he no longer cares. He's almost fully white by the time Peppino encounters him...

I listened to The Balad of Sara Berry a little too much while thinking of his story.

Noise and Noisette never entered the Tower in this timeline, and Faker was never created.

Pizzahead attempted to take over the Tower, but Pepperman was NOT going to let anyone take his throne OR the attention he desperately craved. The invader was beheaded painfully.

The mold eventually does him in. It had convinced his already fragile ego that the people around him no longer cared about him, that he had to MAKE them care. No one dared say anything negative about him or mention the snow-white death creeping across his face, lest they face his wrath...

I’ve lived in Amman, Jordan for the last year, and since I’m going back home to the states in a week, I wanted to share some of my favorite places in the city (I’m not gonna pretend like I’m a local or that I know everything, but still wanted to share these!).

First of all, cafes. This one is very important as it made up 70% of my going out experiences in Amman. My favorite is Sade Cafe in Jabal Amman. They have tons of cats that wander in and out of the cafe. The staff is really nice. It’s never really crowded. Also they have chess boards! (Which is really a plus since a lot of places don’t let you play chess or cards because they think you are gambling). Finally, the Mexican hot chocolate is fire. Literally.

Close second is Manara. The view from the terrace particularly around sunset is amazing, and it’s also super big so you can go there to study without having to order anything. That said I love the Spanish lattes there. And! They have punch cards for free drinks. Don’t forget those! They also sometimes I believe do film screenings on the roof, and I highly recommend those.

Shout out to Jungle Fever as well! Near the big blue King Abdullah Masjid. The art gallery below is really cool, and the cookies there are very good (by Western dessert in Amman standards).

Speaking of desserts, trying kanafa is a must in Jordan! No doubt in your first week (or even day) in the country you will hit up Habibahs. The kanafa there is excellent (although I have to admit the best I’ve ever had I watched someone make by hand over an actual fire in the woods). However! I personally believe the kanafa at Bab Al-Yemen (or as my friend once accidentally said Yab Al-Bamen) is better. Do yourself a favor, go there and get the kanafa with the Karak tea.

My personal favorite Arabic dessert is Awameh, but I never found any amazing places for this in Amman. If you know any, let me know!

Final and most important point on desserts, if you have a birthday coming up in Jordan, order the ice cream cake at Bekdash (the berry cheesecake flavor one). I believe there are multiple branches in the city, but we always go to the one in Wast Al-Balad.

Now that I have said the words Bab Al-Yemen, I got to say… I think it’s overrated. It’s worth going to, don’t get me wrong. The fahsa slaps. But I don’t think it’s as good or as cheap as everyone makes it out to be. Also sometimes… they try to scam you.

On the topic of scams, in my opinion, avoid all the restaurants above the ground level in Balad. The food is not that good and is overpriced because I guess it’s farther from the ground?? If you want to eat in Balad, go to Sharezade. The arayes there are so good, and I don’t even like arayes. When I say avoid all places above ground level, I am not talking about the Ezwetti Initiative (although they are more of a quick sandwich stand). Really anything up that set of stairs (the cafes and shops) is good. There’s a cute Palestinian jewelry and clothing shop up there too, although I can’t remember the name.

I will probably add to this later, but for now, a quick lightning round.

Alloy, it’s a jewelry shop in Jabal Amman. Everything there is really cute and unique. It’s all vintage or handcrafted by the man who owns the shop. Definitely check it out for you or your loved ones.

Shisha! I love Ayyam Zaman on Rainbow Street, mostly for nostalgia reasons. Also Beit Baladna in Lwebdeh is nice, but some of my friends have warned me against the tiramisu there.

You have to go to Bait Al-Roman. It’s a juice place, and it’s also in Jabal Amman. A worker there once recommended to me the Mango Passionfruit flavor, and I have not found a better one yet.

If you happen to be in the Sports City/Shmeisani area, go to Tash bakery. Specifically, you have to order their zataar manaqeesh with the stuffed cheese crusts. Best thing I’ve ever had. Your welcome.

Maybe this is cliche, but my favorite spot in the city is the Citadel. Please go. Particularly around sunset.

That’s it for now! Of course, listen to locals above me. Also, pretty much all food in restaurants pale in comparison to food made at home here. Seriously, try to get adopted by a local family here and let them feed you mansaf, msakhan, and malouba at home (and makmoura too if you are lucky). Évidemment, je ne l’ai pas fait; je pourrais faire valoir que l’on écrit que quand l’on pris par la spleen ou comme Casey le dit: “quand ça va bien, je le vis; quand ça va mal, je l’écris” mais la vérité étant que je n’ai pas pris le temps de le faire, assurément pour vivre les évènements mais surtout par flemme. Toutefois les souvenirs de ces 8 semaines sur la route, ou plutôt sur les rails, sont encore vifs et c’est l’occasion de vous les conter autrement que par vlogs et messages instantanés. Il est d’autant plus nécessaire de laisser une trace non pas pour faire le point, mais plutôt pour faire la ligne et garder le souvenir aussi vif que se peut. Par où commencer? Que dire? Comment le dire? À qui le dire? Toujours les mêmes questions, toujours les mêmes insatisfactions… Plutôt que de rédiger, pourquoi pas balancer des noms, des lieux, des choses, des actions qui comme une carte serviront d’entrées à des histoires que je vous conterai quand nous nous reverrons?

What are your thoughts on ganon’s apparent voice in totk? I personality don’t think it fits with this version of him. I can see maybe OOT or WW ganondorf sounding like that, but it just doesn’t fit with totk Ganon. I think king roam sounds more like Ganon than Ganon does, especially in the last cutscene of the champions balade dlc. ( also hi! How are ya doing?)

Jour 10 suite et fin

Retour en métro, pour notre balade en bateau d’une heure pour aller voir le pont du Golden Bridge et la prison d’Alcatraz désormais inoccupée. Comme depuis le début, très gâtés avec ce beau temps.

Les ours de mer sont toujours là aussi et quelques pélicans moins faciles à prendre en photo.

Une petite pause vite fait pour déjeuner et c’est reparti, nous avons encore des achats à faire pour les souvenirs. Nous restons sur les quais des anciens pêcheurs, endroits animés et très touristiques.

Petite pause gaufre chez Boudin 😋 un des serveurs a voulu nous photographier 😂

A 19h, rdv pour un apéritif avec le groupe dans un rooftop depuis l’hôtel Continental. Nous sommes sensés avoir une super vue sauf que la brume s’est largement levée et on n’a pas vu grand chose !

Tant pis, l’essentiel était de se retrouver une dernière fois tous ensemble. Un groupe très sympa et une belle ambiance d’ailleurs 😊

Nous avons terminé par un Burger King pour l’ambiance américaine et bouclés nos valises.

Sunday Album Club: Pet Shop Boys / Nonetheless

Nach längerer Wartezeit und den zwei Vorabsingles liegt Nonetheless, das 15 Studioalbum der Pet Shop Boys vor. Studioalben der Pet Shop Boys sind immer mit gewisser Vorsicht zu genießen. Denn die schmale Gratwanderung von Neil Tennant und Chris Lowe zwischen Kunst und Kitsch produziert neben "hits" leider auch immer wieder "misses". Und so sah ich mich in den letzten 38 (!) Jahren immer wieder gezwungen, die besten Songs aus den 15 Studioalben herauszufiltern. Dabei ist eine phenomenale Summe an hochwertigen Arbeiten herausgekommen, die mein Leben seit 1986 bereichert haben. Da die Pet Shop Boys auch kontinuierlich eine Vielzahl an hochwertigem Bonusmaterial veröffentlichten, können Sie heute eigentlich aus jedem Pet Shop Boys Longplayer ein Album mit ausschließlich hochwertigem Material kompilieren.

Bei Nonetheless war ich zunächst überrascht. Die ersten 5 Tracks, darunter die Vorabsingles Dancing Star und Loneliness wußten allesamt zu überzeugen. Doch mit Track 6 A new bohemia holte mich die Realität ein. Eine dieser schwulstigen Baladen, bei denen das Duo leider zu oft im Kitsch landet. Noch schlimmer dann Track Nr.7 The schlager hitparade, der Versuch dem deutschen Schlager-Phenomän ein kleines Denkmal zu setzen. Tut mir leid, aber trotz triefender Ironie ist der Schunkel-Dikobeat von The Schlager Hitparade einer der größten Fehlgriffe der Pet Shop Boys der letzten Jahre. Da die beiden Songs aber die einzigen Ausfälle bleiben, darf ich mit großer Freude von einem mehr als gelungenen Album sprechen. Dass die Pet Shop Boys auch mal eine Balade meistern (Kings Cross, Rent) zeigen sie mit The secret of happiness eine hinreißende Schnulze in bester Burt Bacharach Tradition.

Heute habe ich Feel als Tagestipp aus Nonetheless ausgewählt, welches mit einem Kraftwerk-Pattern überrascht aber ansonten an die großen Pet Shop Boys Arbeiten (Leaving, Being boring) anknüpft.
