Buckle up, I'm about to talk about how much I love Solomon Lauter.

(Yes, he is a shitty dad and a shitty person and now with that out of the way, here's why he fascinates me:)

So Solomon was clearly the main character of an entire Hatchetfield disaster that predates the current timeline's "end of the world". (Assuming that TGWDLM, Black Friday, and NPMD all happen at the 'same time', in different universes.) However, whatever happened with Solomon came before this. Something happened that made him this way.

Here's the thing: Solomon clearly doesn't value INDIVIDUAL human life. He laments how useless Ms. Tessberger was in life. He tells his daughter that he doesn't CARE that she killed someone, even if he was the football star who cost them the big game. He just blatantly doesn't care, and what kind of person admits that out loud and bluntly the way he did?

Ok, so he doesn't care about individual human life. But clearly, he cares about the bigger picture. The whole. Otherwise why would he face his (clearly) greatest fear and dig up the Black Book? He knows that Max would be the end of humanity. So, begrudgingly, he leads his daughter right to the Lords In Black. Not because he cares about her. Not because he cares about Richie, or Ruth, or Ms. Tessberger. But he does it for the planet as a whole. Something must have happened to him, to tear him down and eliminate any empathy or compassion, for 'the greater good'. He can't afford to care about anyone as an individual. Not after what he's seen. It's some Erwin Smith level shit.

This is all just theory, but Solomon must have had to deal with the Lords in Black to save humanity at SOME point. Some dark threat of his own he had to defeat. And now because of this, because of knowing the dark truth of Hatchetfield, Solomon has lost any of his own humanity. When protecting ALL of humanity, who has the time to care about one person?

So I just realized something. More accurately I had a thought and I’m now typing it out hoping this isn’t a very commonly known Hunger Games factoid or something that I was too stupid to see earlier. This is the cornucopia from the 75th hunger games:

Now, maybe I’m insane. That’s a very real possibility, as is evidenced by this whole blog and its contents. However…

Is it just me or does this kinda resemble rubble?

Mental, shiny, and very stylized though it may be, it kind of looks like slabs of something that fell from above and landed in a pile. It only vaguely resembles a cornucopia. The end of an actual cornucopia sticks fully into the air, with nothing below it supporting it because the weight of whatever food’s inside holds the front down. This cornucopia has at least one metal thing standing up to “support” the metal slabs creating the tail end. There’s also a piece of metal sticking into the air a bit away from the tail, making it look a little less cornucopia-shaped and a little more… natural looking? Like the metal was dropped from the sky and the gamemakers let it remain where it fell. It looks a lot like, say, a ceiling that collapsed and had several beams fall conveniently in the middle of the island. Just spitballing here…

For reference, this is the cornucopia from the 74th games:

It’s a lot more simple and I do mean a lot. Very clearly a cornucopia, kind of pointy for “aesthetics” but still one shape. The tail is completely off the ground and nothing’s really sticking out of it. It has angles, yes, but they’re very clearly there to make it a little more stylish. It’s smooth and clearly man-made.

Now, you could argue that the 75th cornucopia was meant to look more special because it’s essentially an all-stars season for the child murder games. The tributes were celebrities in the most fucked up way ever, so of course the cornucopia was gonna be flashy, but the 50th games had a gold cornucopia so I’m sure the gamemakers could have come up with something more fancy. A bejeweled cornucopia or something, with gemstones and a more expensive look to it.

However, as we all know, the whole point of the third quarter quell was to kill Katniss. What was Katniss for Snow again? Right, the memory of Lucy Gray coming back to haunt him more than five decades after her disappearance. In that context, him trying to kill Katniss is like him trying to kill Lucy Gray’s ghost in the arena. The same place he saved her from all those years ago, an action that nearly cost him his future. Now look at this image:

A bunch of slabs laid on top of each other that vaguely resemble the shape of a cornucopia. To me, the cornucopia from the 75th Hunger Games kind of looks like a metal, shiny, stylized version of this. Even that bit of metal sticking in the air away from the tail kind of looks like the rubble from the 10th games, which has two large chunks of ceiling sticking into the air. Almost like the gamemakers were intentionally trying to replicate the 10th games, but with the vibes of the later games. Focused on performance, which is an element inspired by Lucy Gray.

Was Snow trying to symbolically kill Lucy Gray’s ghost by replicating the cornucopia she climbed on top of (in the movies) which led to her victory? Only to have her die from it this time around since the threats all start at the cornucopia?

(tbosas movie spoilers!!!) i think the worst part of tbosas for me was that coriolanus was right??? all those offhanded little comments he made 'on a whim' to try and 'help the tributes' and in turn save himself were right and it's horrifying to realise that he didn't need to try to think of them and try to be like his father bc he already was. from an audience perspective, i sat through the whole arena part of the movie disgusted by everything happening in it and begging for it to be over (it didn't really get better after all that but oh well). the deaths were more gruesome, the arena more terrifying and everything felt too real (i also watched it in imax idk if that helped). not that the deaths in thg and catching fire games weren't horrific, but in an offhanded movie fan way, i used to look forward to the arena. because it became exactly what dr gaul wanted it to be and what coriolanus realised it was and what lucy gray made it: a performance. in the 65 years after, they made the arenas interesting and real and natural and beautiful, with weapons and mutts and gifts and places to hide and places for open bloodshed, they interfered with the games to help and then kill their tributes (sound familiar? yeah thanks a lot coriolanus u bitch) and it was literally the most harrowing thing to sit there and watch the movie as i realised that it was entertaining to me to watch the first two movies because of that. we are no better than the citizens of the capitol and i just think that sucks.

You’re both handed a white board, bigger than your face, and there’s a list of questions with some of the words covered.

“Do you want to go first?” Tom asks, giving you a small smile.

“Yes! I’m pretty excited actually,” you begin to peel off the first question. “Okay, first question: what was Y/N Avocot’s first role?”

You think for a moment, “well in terms of roles in general, my first acting role was very small and I believe it was for this ice cream commercial as a kid. I’m not sure if it’s still up but my mom had signed me up for it and they thought I was a really cute kid so they casted me.”

Tom laughs, “really?” He then retrieves his board from the crew. “Okay my turn. Why does Coriolanus Snow turn evil?”

That question makes you slightly giggle, because it’s so broad that it’s nearly impossible for Tom to narrow down exactly what it is that made Coriolanus suddenly switch. “I believe you should be asking Suzanne Collins, shout-out to her for making the entire trilogy and prequel. But honestly? I think he was always power hungry, and even though Tigris tried her very best to bring out the humanity in him, it was just never enough. Especially after Sejanus’s death, I think Coriolanus realized there was no going back.”

“Oh wow,” you say, very impressed with how he decided to answer it. “That was a terrific answer Tom.”

“Thank you m’lady.” You giggle at his antics, rolling your eyes jokingly.

“What role does Y/N Avocot play in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes?” You clear your throat, imitating one of your character’s iconic resting bitch face.

“I play Balleona Laurent, duh.” You joke. “Anyway, yes, I play Balleona, also known as Leona. She’s originally from the Capitol just like Coriolanus. They met at the academy and she automatically knew she had to have him. She comes from the Laurent family, which is a very very wealthy, well off, intimidating family that Coriolanus knows he just has to get into, which is why they start dating. I don’t wanna spoil too much of Leona and Corio in the movie, soooo you guys should definitely check it out!”

“Alright,” Tom adjusts himself in his seat, ripping off the paper for the next question. “Does Tom Blyth have a girlfriend?”

He pretends to think, which makes you bite your lip, suppressing a laugh. “Hmm, very complex question.”

“Oh give the people what they want!” You tease, “yes he does. He’s inlove with Jennifer Lawrence.”

“I am not inlove with Jennifer Lawrence!” He exclaims quickly, “although I greatly admire her work. My girlfriend is Y/N Avocot over here, sadly.”

“Sadly?!” You fake offense, “cut the cameras. I’m gonna beat Tom up.”

You peel away at your next question, the interview already being loads of fun for the both of you. “Is Y/N Avocot a good singer?”

Your head falls forward, and Tom’s automatic instinct is to catch you, not realizing you’re only joking. “Oh God, I hope so!” You say, laughing as you pick your head up. “I’m no Mariah Carey but I like to think I’m a pretty okay singer.”

“More than okay,” Tom chimes in, which makes you laugh.

“Aw, thanks Tom.”

Tom reaches to peel another question off. “Is Tom Blyth American?” This question makes you almost spit out the water you were currently taking a sip out of. “Well, a lot of people get shocked when I say I’m from the UK. I mean, is my American accent that good?”

“Guess so,” you shrug. “Okay next. Is Y/N Avocot in The Summer I Turned Pretty?”

You clasp your hands together excitedly, giving the camera a wide smile. “Yes! I play Maekella Fisher, also known as Ella Fisher, Steven Conklin’s love interest and sister to Conrad and Jeremiah. The first season airs out soon so please stay tune for that! I’m so excited to be apart of this amazing show with such amazing people.”

“I always come to watch her on set,” Tom says, “they’re all such funny and charismatic people. I swear I’ve became friends with everyone on Y/N’s cast.”

“Okay, my last question,” Tom peels off the paper, grinning. “Will Tom Blyth star in another movie soon?”

He smirks, eyes playfully looking into the camera. “Who knows? But I do know that something exciting will be coming out soon so prepare yourselves!”

“Way to tease the crowd Blyth,” you say, rolling your eyes. “Anyway! My last question, this was quick. What is Y/N Avocot’s skincare routine? Oh, I’ve been waiting for this one.”

You sit on the edge of your seat, and Tom finds it endearing that you’re so excited about something as small as this.

“First, I rinse my face with cold water and I dip my face in a bowl of ice and water for 3 minutes. Afterwards, I put on my dewy toner from Innisfree, it’s so smooth and nice. Sometimes I’m too lazy for this step but I also put on sunscreen, it’s important so I always remind myself to not forget— but I love to use Supergoop Unseen’s Sunscreen. I use drunk elephant’s bronze drops if I wanna go for a sunkissed look that day, but I usually don’t. And then I just shake my Tower facial spray and spray it all over my face. Usually, I touch up my eyebrows and do my eyeliner but that’s really about it!”

“It’s true,” Tom adds. “She asked me if I could go buy her the tower spray yesterday because she was almost out.”

“No need to expose me like that,” you say, clinging your arms onto his. “Well thank you guys for watching!”

“Thank you!” Tom and you wave at the camera, smiling brightly.

This month is about embodying the best version of yourself move on despite the snakes around you ignore the people you're gonna be investing on something that is worth it it's a sign ! Friendships are something you will be blessed this month new and old you will also actively let go of a fear of yours I heart heights and abandonment issues.

If you're looking for commitment from someone it will be given this month like engagements marriage yay social media fame is also written there would be more family functions to attend to I see more active energy in this pile. You will understand the worth of standing alone and work your intuition through difficult situations .Your dreams might be a clear indicator of something also I feel you're making someone cry or someone is making you cry ask advice from someone who's been there in your situation you can also ignore if the situation isn't as important I also feel ignorance energy I guess it's good because you're also healing from abandonment issues .

You'll be doing some course on money management or get advise from your elders on your resources. Sometimes we make our own problems dont get sucked into that take time but let your loved ones know that you need it ! Also you really need that money management advice as you might end up losing something but I also don't think it will he a bad loss ! I firmly think The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a story that needs to be read. Like, it works better as a book than as a movie, I'm 100% sure.

(little spoilers for the book but not too much and it's mostly without context anyway)

And it's not because "books are better" or something, because the Hunger Games movies are all great adaptations and they never missed.

I think that for 2 main reasons:

The first is that people watching the movie will miss a very cool, deep and important detail that only the book can provide, which is the switch between "Coriolanus" and "Snow" at the end of the book.

The narrator stops calling him "Coriolanus" and starts to only use "Snow" to refer to him. Because now he actually is the "young version" of the bastard we know in the trilogy.

Before that he's a "working in progress".

The second reason is that the main character can't lie to the readers.

While reading the book we always know when Coryo is lying and when he's being honest because, even if it's in third person, it's still from his point of view. We know what he really thinks and we know when he's actually sincere or not.

And for a story about a manipulative character, this is important.

People who will only watch the movie will always think he's lying because they know "President Snow" and they know he's a manipulative bastard but Coriolanus is actually very honest for the majority of the book:

He honestly cared about his friends, he was honestly worried for Clementia and, at the end, for Sejanus, he very much loves his family, he REALLY loved Lucy Grey and he was really fucking scared of Dr. Gaul, the games and the war.

(And I know there are people who read the book and STILL though he was lying and a bitch for the whole thing but, please, understand the complexity of a character. In Hunger Games no one is black or white)

A Bellova x Coriolanus One-Shot

DISCLAIMER: I don’t own The Hunger Games franchise, the images above, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, or any of the characters in this fic other than Bellova, Oliveria, and the Solstice Festival. I also do not condone the beliefs or actions of Coriolanus or Bellova.

Summary: The Monday after the Solstice Festival, Bellova confronts Coriolanus about gossip she’s been hearing concerning him and an unknown girl doing…scandalous things in the alleyway behind the train station. 

⚠️Warnings⚠️: lots of swearing, mentions of alcohol consumption, allusions to sexual acts, Bellova and Coryo are both very mean to each other in this

A/n: This takes place the school year before TBOSAS occurs, (the equivalent of their junior year of high school). Also, I HIGHLY recommend you catch up on my series, A Lady Made of Snow, before reading this.

“Miss Reginelle! Mister Snow!” 

Professor Satryia Click’s voice rang throughout the classroom, causing the two students to break their intense eye contact with each other. 

“I appreciate that you are both so invested in the discussion topic,” she began, giving them a small smile. “But please try to lower your voices and use kinder language while conversing.”

“Yes, Professor Click,” Bellova and Coriolanus said in unison. She nodded in satisfaction, turning back towards the projector screen. When she was no longer looking, Coriolanus gave Bellova another scathing glare.

“You’re infuriatingly stubborn, has anyone ever told you that?” he hissed.

“You do, almost every day,” she said, smirking. 

“And yet, you still refuse to change your ways.”

“If I did, nobody would be around to keep your ego in check.”

He huffed in annoyance. “Bitch.”

“That’s no way to show self-control, Coriolanus,” she said mockingly. “But I suppose that adds merit to the rumors.”

He tilted his head in confusion. “What rumors?”

Bellova smiled widely. “Wouldn’t you like to know.”

Professor Click assigned the class a short worksheet to complete by the following day, and dismissed them a few minutes earlier than usual. As soon as she’d given them permission to leave for their lunch break, Bellova quickly gathered her things and exited the classroom, trying to hold back a smug smile.

As expected, she barely made it down one flight of stairs before Coriolanus grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out of the crowd.

“What the fuck - get your hands off of me, Snow,” she said, faking an angry tone.

“What the hell were you talking about earlier?” he asked, keeping a firm grip on her forearm.

She gave him an obviously exaggerated innocent smile. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Coryo.”

Coriolanus’s eyes bore into hers, and she briefly wondered if he would push her down the stairs if he could get away with it.

Instead, he dragged her down another flight of stairs and into an empty classroom. Swiftly shutting the door behind them, he let go of her arm, but stood in front of the only way to exit the room. 

Bellova sat down on a desk, crossing her arms.   “I don’t understand why you’re so mad.”

Coriolanus walked towards her, his tall figure towering over her. She met his gaze, not a hint of fear in her eyes. 

“Tell me about the rumors you mentioned earlier, or I swear, I’ll make you pay.”

“Someone’s worked up,” Bellova said teasingly. After noticing Coriolanus’s fists clench, she decided to finally tell him. It wasn’t worth getting in a physical altercation over. “Alright fine, it has to do with the Solstice Festival last Friday.”

“What about it?” he pressed.

“Something about a dare that Festus put you up to after we were all relatively intoxicated.” She relished in the way that his body went rigid at her words. “So you do know what I’m referring to, hm?”

“What exactly are people saying?” he demanded, his voice raising.

“You and some girl did some…dirty things in the alley behind the train station. You know, kissing, some discarded clothing items, and someone ending up on their knees.”

Coriolanus’s pale and slightly hollow cheeks turned a pretty shade of pink. “Fuck,” he muttered. “I don’t even know who she was. It was dark, and we were both drunk.”

Bellova was tempted to push for more details, but realized she really didn’t want to know them. She did have one question for him, though:

“So I suppose you’re not pure as snow anymore, hm?”

He looked away from her. “Shut up.” 

She scoffed. “If you’re going to become a player, just own up to it.”

“I’m not!”

“Sure, sure,” she said, trying not to let her anger ruin her composure. “But you flirted with anything in a dress at the event. I saw the way you were eyeing Clemensia.“

“I wasn’t-“

“Either get better at lying or don’t even try to, Coryo.”

He narrowed his eyes, stepping even closer to her. “Fine. If you want to talk about indecency, Bellova, let’s talk about the things I’ve heard about you and Felix.” 

“Coriolanus, you-“ 

“Is it true that he took you home with him after the end-of-year gala last year? And that you spent the night there?”

Bellova sneered, standing up to get in her rival’s face. “You know damn well that isn’t what happened. You were with me when I got into my car, for fuck’s sake!” 

“That hasn’t stopped people from talking,” he continued, smirking down at her. “People think think that you-“

“I know what they think!” she snarled, shoving him backwards. “Thanks to that bitch Oliveria, everyone is convinced that I slept with Felix just to get into the good graces of the president. But we never even fucking kissed, and we were never a couple. You know that everything you’ve heard concerning him and I are bold-faced lies.”

Coriolanus shrugged. “Yes, I know.”

“Then why the fuck did you bring it up?”

“If you have the right to get on my nerves, I should be able to do the same to you.”

She scoffed. “You’re such a child.”

“That’s rich coming from someone who’s jealous of an unknown girl right now.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” 

“Admit it; you wish you were the girl I was with in that alleyway.”

Bellova would have killed him right then and there if she wouldn’t have gotten expelled for it.

Instead, she pushed past him, storming towards the classroom door. “You’re full of shit, Coriolanus Snow.”

He laughed condescendingly, further infuriating her.

“Who’s the bad liar now?”

She whirled around to face him, her eyes flashing dangerously. “Fuck you!” she screamed, throwing open the door and slamming it behind her.

Bellova felt her temper begin to bubble over. She knew she had to get to somewhere private, or she’d end up taking her aggression out on some innocent passerby. Rushing to the nearest restroom, she locked herself in a stall and leaned against the wall, panting heavily. 

She couldn’t understand why she was so angry. Sure, it was normal for her to be agitated when Coriolanus got on her nerves. But she usually didn’t lose her composure like that.

Perhaps it was him bringing up Felix, despite knowing the real story. He had been present when she denied his offer to bring her back to the presidential mansion. But many people firmly believed she and Felix had a one-night stand, earning her the reputation a “gold-digger”, despite her family’s already abundant wealth. 

Or perhaps it was his suggestion that she was jealous of that random girl. Anyone else would be too afraid to imply such a thing, but not Coriolanus Snow. He was a cocky bastard who thought far too highly of himself.

Or, worst of all, he could be right.

Maybe she did want to be that girl.

But it was in the past now, it couldn’t be undone. 

Of course, that didn’t mean she couldn’t find out who she was, and make her pay. 

After all, sexual intercourse on Academy grounds was punishable by permanent expulsion. If the dean somehow found out about her (and only her) escapades during the Festival…

it would simply mean that she got what was coming to her.

Snowbaird Arena AU fic idea I’ve been thinking about for weeks now but don’t have any writing talent to make it come to life so if anyone out there wants to take this on please do!

In this AU Coryo doesn’t manage to escape the arena when he’s sent in to get Sejanus. Sejanus does get out (because this fic is about Snowbaird and I don’t want Sejanus to be third wheeling the whole time lol) but maybe Coral’s pack corners Coryo and he has to take a detour through the tunnels and Lucy Gray hears him and leads him to safety. Gaul couldn’t care less about getting him out because if he dies at least it’ll be off camera and everyone will be none the wiser.

The majority of the games will play out the same but this time Lucy Gray won’t be alone, when Jessup becomes rabid they bolt into the arena together to escape and that’ll be when the viewers see for the first time that one of the mentors is trapped in the arena (Gauls probably been going around telling people Coryo is off with the flu - Clemmie will be the only one who suspects something shady is at play since that was the same excuse they used for her). Everyone in the Capitol is up in arms about one of their own students being in the arena (Crassus Snow’s son no less!)

Lucy Gray and Coryo survive the games. I know in this AU he’s not around the drop the handkerchief into the snake tank but he’s been with Lucy Gray in the arena the whole time - and maybe to keep her warm at night he’s leant her his blazer (I know in the book he wasn’t wearing it but let’s say’s for this story he is) - so his scent would be on her and when the tank explodes and the snakes reach them they don’t attack. Lucy Gray still sings still because that song slaps and maybe this time Gaul is the one to suggest the singing is calming the snakes because she can’t exactly say “yeah they’re not attacking because they already know Snows scent from that time I used it to test my students honesty which resulted in one of them getting bitten multiple times and almost dying lol” it’s already bad enough that one of the students is in there, can’t let the Capitol know she’s using them as test subjects for her mutts too!

They’re out of the arena and Gauls stuck between a rock and a hard place because she can either tell people she willingly sent a Capitol student into the arena mid-games and left him there to fend for himself OR she can say Coryo broke in himself to protect Lucy Gray because young love blah blah which she’ll absolutely hate but may not result in her getting fired so that’s the story she goes with.

Dean Highbottom will actually for once try and do something decent and sees this as an opportunity to potentially end the games for good by playing up the Capitol Boy/ District Girl in love story blah blah look how District and Capitol can work as a team blah blah we’re not so different you and I blah blah Gaul wants everyone to believe that all humans are inherently monsters but look how these too worked so hard to protect each other…you get the idea.

The games are cancelled, Gaul probably still gets fired (Sejanus and Strabo probably corner the President and tell him “listen, you need to fire this bitch, we all know what really went down”), Snowbaird have their happy ending, there’s an emotional reunion between Coryo and Tigris, the Grandma’m is actually relatively pleasant to Lucy Gray since she saw how hard they protected each other in the games, maybe the covey come to the Capitol and perform and Plubris’ nightclub.

coriolanus snow never loved lucy gray, no matter how much he tries to state it throughout the books. what he feels towards lucy is ownership which is actually pretty evident once you look at it. he always refers to her as my girl and likes to have control over her, bristling whenever anyone compliments her smarts and her tactical mind. the way he gets jealous when she sings about billy taupe during her pre games interview wasn't a lover's jealousy, it was the jealousy of an owner who isn't quite in control of his property. he constantly talks about how he made her a star, how she survived just because of him and how she should be grateful for his generosity throughout the books. whatever he did for her be it sneaking food, the guitar for her performance or his mother's compact, he did it solely to win because that was his only agenda all along. she was his ticket for a better life and he exploited this very fact. also if the red flags were subtle in the beginning for the untrained eye, they were actually pretty evident when snow's stint as a peacekeeper begins in district 12. he is controlling, manipulative and jealous; something I'm sure lucy picked up on. and most importantly, the way he didn't blink twice before deciding to kill her once he realized she could be a problem to his future, his reputation shows that he never ever loved her. at that point shd was just a threat, something a weed he had to pull out before it spoiled his flowerbed. he always took her for granted because in his eyes, she was just a piece in his games. or so he thought.
