Lily Evans: You did?? What was wrong with it?

Lily Evans: I am serious about it. I think she'd really love that. But let's not bring dad. His potato famine jokes are mortifying.

Petunia Dursley: Daddy can go camping on a mountain somewhere, or whatever it is he does.

A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the seizure of explosives, Gardaí (Irish police) have said.

Gardaí said that four "viable improvised explosive devices" were found during the search of a van in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was requested to attend and removed the explosive devices.

During subsequent searches by in the Ballyfermot and Ronanstown areas by Gardaí, a small quantity of suspected cannabis and a scrambler bike were also seized.

The man who was arrested is currently being held in a Garda station in the Dublin area.

The suspected drugs have been sent for examination by Forensic Science Ireland.

Tomm Moore

Moore's style is hand-drawn 2D animation, inspired by Celtic/Irish mythology in designs in his Irish folklore trilogy. Bright, lively colours and very stylised art, very comic and cartoon-inspired which looks almost like watercolour paintings and pencil art. In wolfwalkers it is more sketchy and looks like he has painted/coloured first then drawn on top of it.

Topics - Moore says that films aimed at children should have something important to tell them, his film Song of the Sea in particular uses the Irish folklore of selkie, seanchaí, and Mac Lir (son of the sea) to do so.

Main themes - Magic and childhood, young people’s development through stories of adventure with magical elements/side characters. Moore's stories show lessons to learn for growing up and facing challenges/adversities for young children and adolescents.

Very heavily inspired by Irish history and folklore e.g. Book of Kells, Irish deities, and traditional Irish customs, and also the landscape.

Tries to tie folklore and the modern world together in a cohesive and believable way.

Background of Moore

Moore was born in Newry during the troubles in 1977 but early in his life his family moved to Kilkenny.

in 1998 he cofounded Cartoon Saloon with Paul Young and Nora Twomey.

Moore joined the Young Irish Filmmakers in Kilkenny as a teenager and later studied Classical Animation in Dublin at Ballyfermot College.

Moore iss also a comic artist, screenwriter, director, and illustrator.

His emphasis on folklore in these films is because he sees losing the tie to that side of Irish heritage and environment as a loss of culture.

He uses hand-drawn 2D animation because he believes it can express more and viewers can insert themselves into different characters whereas life action can feel very detached and impersonal.

The environment in Ireland was tied closely to Irish folklore e.g. selkies being magical beings of the sea, which heavily inspired Moore.

Growing up Moore was inspired by Japanese animation - he looked at the environments in Studio Ghibli for example. Very lush, grand, colourful, and expressive. They perfectly frame characters within their scenes.

Tomm joined the Young Irish Film Makers in Kilkenny, during his early to mid-teens where he grew his knowledge and passion for film and animation.

After leaving St Kieran's College secondary school, he studied classical animation at Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin.

Tag 3: Ballyfermot College / Pearce College

Heute gingen wir getrennte Wege: Unsere Schreiner besuchten das Pearce College, die Mediengestaltung und FI nahmen dem Bus zum Ballyfermot College. Dort wurden uns die unterschiedliche Bereiche vorgestellt.

Im VR-Studio durften wir einige Arbeiten des Fachbereiches Immersiver Medien am eigenen Leib erleben.

Anschließend haben wir angehende Game-Designer bei ihrer Konzeptarbeit begleitet - ein sehr interessanter Einblick.

Job-Shadowing in der Mediengestaltung war ebenfalls spannend.

Während dem Lunch hat im Lehrerzimmer mit verschiedenen Lehrkräfte einen intensiver Austausch stattgefunden. Wir unterhielten uns über die Unterschiede der Bildungssysteme und loteten zukünftige Kooperationsmöglichkeiten aus.

Zum Abschluss wurden uns ein top ausgestattetes Sound- und Fernsehstudio gezeigt.

Im Pearce College wurden die Schreiner währenddessen freundlich empfangen und nahmen am Job-Shadowing teil. Auch hier fand einen reger Austausch über die Unterschiede der Bildungssysteme und Einrichtung statt.

Well done to all 2nd Years on a fabulous retreat day on Tuesday.  The boys were distributed between De La Salle Retreat Centre in Ballyfermot, the Spiritan Educational Trust Retreat Team in Kimmage and an in-house retreat delivered by An Tobar Nua.  It was a fantastic day for all involved.  Thank you to the Chaplaincy Team for organising.
