This picture is so unbelievably stupid. The big stumps all crowded together as if it was at all possible for trees that large to grow so uniformly and close together. The fact that the background has hills and fields where the wind turbines would ACTUALLY have been installed. The fact that weird trees that aren't sun dependant for whatever reason had to be taken down at all and not the turbines installed in the actual places they're designed for. The fact that the wind turbines are almost as unrealistically cramped together as the trees.
Fucking fear mongering. Jesus fucking christ.
Yeah we're totally going to install wind turbines in old growth forest. For sure. That makes total sense.
I am so embarrassed for the human who legitimately thought this was saying something.
Hey bitch
Bitch
Where are the old growth forests?
Where are they???
Tumblr media
Point them out to me.
Use that big brain of yours.

96 leading Australian scientists and experts have called for the Northern Territory Government to follow the science and ban unconventional gas development because of its unacceptable impact on the climate.
Signatories include many of Australia’s leading climate scientists including Professor Emeritus David Karoly, Professor Emerita Lesley Hughes and Professor Matthew England. Scientific experts also include Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty, and former Australian of the year Professor Fiona Stanley.
Fracking in the Northern Territory could result in up to 1.4 billion tonnes of emissions. The letter reflects calls from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the United Nations and experts from Australia and around the world calling for an end to new fossil fuel development.

And so it begins.
[id: two tweets from Adam Bienkov. First tweet reads: BREAKING: Liz Truss' spokesman says its geological survey on the safety of fracking, due yesterday, will now *not* be published until after the mourning period. The Conservative manifesto promised the ban wouldn't be lifted unless there was 'categorical' evidence it was safe. Followed by a photo of a bullet point that reads: we are today publishing the British geological survey's report, as commissioned by the then Business and Energy Secretary earlier this year, which suggests more drilling is required to establish data on shale resources and seismic impacts. Second tweet reads: So fracking is being given the go ahead in the UK, despite the fact that it breaks the Conservative manifesto and despite the fact we're not even allowed to see the evidence on its safety until weeks after the decision is announced. End id.]

The situation in the US is about to get worse.
And not just for trans individuals, but everyone who isn't deemed as "typical"
Trump has been allowed back into the ballot
And before you say anything on, "oh he won't win bc-" YES HE WILL
His voter base is comprised of the same people willing to break federal law on his behalf. It happened once, IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
What does this mean for Americans? Alot actually. According to a statement he put out, he aims to do the following things:
Replace all federal government agents with trump Loyalists
Defund the FBI
Use military power for civil law enforcement
Use stationed military to detain illegal immigrants and Legal immigrants that hold "jihadist beliefs" (which on the surface is a good thing but can be used to threaten the entirety of the Muslim community)
Make abortion a crime up to 15 weeks
Remove gender recognition
Make transitional healthcare a crime for minors
Ban teachers from teaching LGBT content, Critical Race theory, and any taboo subject (which could include sex education)
Remove the affordable healthcare scheme
Revoke all green laws and start fracking
Indict his political enemies
and the worst part is, this list isn't even conclusive.
Now I'm not a US citizen, so why should I care?
US hate rhetoric has planted its seed in my country, and it has only gotten worse.
Minorities of the US, I heed you this:
USE YOUR VOTE OR JUMP ON A BOAT
because this year is about to get even messier...

You're surprised that "environmental conservation and sustainability are based on 'vague vibes'"?
Have you not noticed anything about nuclear power for the last fifty years? Or the San Francisco Sierra Club claiming that dense construction is anti-environmental and unsustainable, flatly contradicting not just all the research on the subject but even the strong statements of the California-wide leadership of the Sierra Club? Or bans on plastic straws and bags, both of which are better for the environment than the replacements?
Environmentalism is, and always has been, entirely based on vague vibes with minimal concessions to consequences of any kind.
No, I haven't noticed those things, because what I know of """sustainability"""" is a bunch of real, well-educated, practically-knowledgeable fucking people working their asses off to educate and innovate and build an inhabitable future for the planet. Whatever the fuck this one specific group of people in California are doing, in ol' Kentucky we're just too fucking busy trying to do things like unpoison the water and undevastate the land and unfuck the forests and make sure everybody's gonna have food to eat in the future, in between dealing with illegal radioactive waste dumping, fracking waste pollution, and some of the most severe natural disasters of their kind in centuries.
Remember that tornado last year that was on the ground for longer than any other tornado in recorded history EVER? Remember how tornadoes killed more than 80 people in Kentucky, in a day and age where we have radar to track tornadoes in real time and broadcast the information to a device everyone has in their hand? No? That's fucking climate change bitch. Most of us are staring down the throat of the monster already. Grow up.

Excerpt from this press release from the Center for Biological Diversity:
Two federal agencies have confirmed the cancellation of applications for permits proposed a decade ago to drill and frack eight new wells on federal public land in Los Padres National Forest. The announcement, made April 3, comes just weeks after California officials proposed a statewide ban on this extremely dangerous fossil fuel extraction technique.
Together, the two actions signal the end of the toxic era of fracking in the Sespe Oil Field. Fracking has occurred here for decades unbeknownst to the public, but when the polluting practice was uncovered through a series of Freedom of Information Act requests in 2012, a pause in fracking occurred amidst public opposition and an outpouring of scientific studies showing the dangers posed to human health and the environment.
The eight applications refocused the spotlight on the Sespe and the public health and environmental risks posed by fracking.
“This announcement closes the chapter on a toxic and dangerous legacy of fracking in the Sespe,” said Jeff Kuyper, executive director of Los Padres ForestWatch, one of the organizations that mobilized residents to oppose the fracking plan. “While fossil fuel extraction here continues to pose grave dangers to our public lands, communities and climate, today we celebrate this important step forward as we continue the transition to clean energy.”
“I’m relieved that these long-pending drilling and fracking applications have been cancelled, averting a major threat to condors and steelhead,” said Lisa Belenky, senior counsel at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Condors have suffered from oil wells and pipelines in this area in the past and steelhead critical habitat in Sespe Creek is downstream from the oil field, so this is a win for biodiversity. We can’t allow expansion of fracking and other oil and gas extraction on our public lands. Ending fossil fuel production is critical to reducing greenhouse gas pollution and supporting real climate solutions.”
Seneca Resources — a Texas-based oil company — filed the original drilling applications with the Bureau of Land Management in 2013, seeking permission to frack eight new wells in the Sespe Creek watershed along with the construction of nearly two miles of new pipelines, a 12,600-gallon tank, and other industrial facilities in this remote area upstream of the town of Fillmore. Carbon California, a Colorado-based company, eventually took over operation of the Sespe Oil Field.

The UK has yet another unelected head of state, a new and unelected prime minister and tory government, and is handing out $10s of BILLIONS to corporations (again). Meanwhile the literal majority of the population is going to be in poverty because of fuel and food bills by next year.
There're so many foodbanks that they're running out of food because fewer and fewer can spare/afford it.
Meanwhile the funeral for a dead billionaire queen who did nothing to help anyone is set to be the most expensive funeral in the history of the world.
Tumblr media
Nearly 300,000 people are homeless in England alone.
The NHS (National Health Service) without which many would not be alive, is being killed by the government, for the benefit of the private sector.
The current unelected government is trying to take away free prescriptions for people over 60, most of whom are already struggling/dying because of energy and food bills.
The energy companies are making $100s of BILLIONS in profits while their charges soar. 100,000s of people will become ill or die because of this.
Public transport is an overpriced fiasco.
Small businesses are dropping like flies while bloated corporations continue spreading their tentacles.
Tumblr media
Climate change is causing increasing devastation, yet this latest sham of a government overturned the fracking ban before the queen was even cold(er), and they want to go back on other commitments.
Covid infection and death rates have been at all-time highs for months, but you'd think everything was fine.
The bulk of the mainstream media is biased, corrupt, and increasingly resembles the output of North Korea, from a capitalist-monarchist-fascist slant.
Anti-monarchist protestors are being arrested. Though that hasn't stopped the very vocal protests in some places.
Another unarmed black man, Chris Kaba, is shot to death by the Met police, while racists fall over each other to defend this.
Meanwhile the UK's racist anti-immigration juggernaut continues, but that's okay because the Home Office has just been handed from one god-awful brown fascist and racism enabling woman politician to another (Patel to Braverman). Being a woman and not white (version 2) however means that there's nothing to see here, if you like artificial, token progress that's like a flowery throw rug over a rotting corpse.
Anyone with long term illness/disability continues to be persecuted - and let's not forget that the Tory governments capitalist response to covid just added over 2 million and counting people suffering from long covid.
If the UK - England in particular - was an animal, it would be put down for suspected rabies.

Rupaul making an online bookstore that hosts libs of tiktok and Matt Walsh's books bc 'you can't fight hate if you don't study it' like contributing to the sale of hate speech and trans conspiracy theories is necessary at all and not fucking crazy. Like there aren't lgbt people dissecting how these idealogies work that's more explicitly useful to promote? You just have to promote 'What is a woman?' Raw. Is it just like censorship to not have it there? It doesn't seem like Matt Walsh is struggling to have his voice heard right now does it.
The funds for these books are going towards his rainbow bus that'll give out banned books for free, but it's still another sold sticker for people who are Alive Right Now who want us dead and who also contribute to book those bans in the first place.
link Also her long time friend Lady Bunny dragging her for it too.

Rupaul makes 1 million per drag race episode. She's the most famous drag queen in the world contributing to forces she should be vocally loudly against and is aiming to squirrel away in a doomsday bunker on her husbands giga fracking ranch instead. (Nails digging into head) make it stopppppp

I'm not American, why is dunking on Ohio such a thing? Like how did that become a meme
Ohio is sort of synonymous with plain, boring rural areas where there's nothing fun going on and everything sort of sucks. Ohio also has some wackadoo political shit going on which only solidifies the notion that it's a dump. It's also one of the states of that nature that has a high enough population that people are sort of forced to acknowledge it exists, where smaller states of a similar ilk like Nebraska and North Dakota fly under the radar for shitty places just because it's easy to forget they're even there.
North Dakota is trotting out a shiny new line of anti trans and library book ban bills though and it also has a very high Native American population (and the river that runs through the largest city, the Red River, has a truly shocking amount of missing people pulled from it) so it's unfortunate that it's easy to ignore because its in desperate need of reform.
Oh, also, North Dakota LOVES fracking.

Fracking and drilling for new oil and gas in the North Sea is green and good for the environment, Liz Truss’s new climate minister said on Wednesday.[...]
“Producing [oil and gas] domestically creates only half the emissions around production and transportation than importing it from around the world,” he said. “In terms of the economy and the environment, domestic production is a good thing and we should all get behind it … it is good for the economy, good for jobs and stops us giving money to dubious regimes.”
The committee corrected Stuart on the issue of gas imports. The UK produces 45% of its gas domestically, and imports 38% not from a dubious regime, but from Norway, which has the highest standards in the world for gas extraction and decades ago banned flaring – where the gas is burned off, producing methane emissions and air pollution. Flaring still takes place in North Sea extraction.[...]
Stuart continued, saying he did not understand the point: “How is it contradictory to net zero for us to produce, on that descending scale, some of the greenest oil and gas in the world?”
