listen I expected literally Nothing from the D&D movie okay, like I can't make it clear enough that I expected the most soulless money grab with a good cgi budget imaginable, I went in having already gone through every stage of grief and landed on acceptance and LISTEN
I fucking CRIED during this dumb RPG movie. it wasn't just "not terrible" it was objectively good with a clever plot and compelling characters and sincere emotional beats. this movie loves D&D so fucking much and it NAILS the "a bunch of goobers try to be cool and accidentally discover The Power Of Friendship And Also Great Violence" classic D&D party vibe. their barbarian's last name is fucking Kilgore and my entire family cried in the theater.
I hope they make twelve of these motherfuckers.

Mystreet au but it’s just the comfort no hurt mcd spin off where everyone isn’t a descendent or reincarnation of their mcd selves and are just happy and content with their lives, and Minecraft Diaries is a dnd campaign that Garroth runs for his friends (main party consisting of Aphmau, Vylad, Laurance and Nicole, and eventually Dante, Travis, kinda Zane, and Katelyn join them)
“Ok Vylad, roll to shoot Zenix.”
“…nat 1.”
“Vylad shoots Brendan in the chest. Roll damage.”
”Aphmau, roll to hit with disadvantage.”
“WHY DISADVANTAGE!?”
“You are trying to kill a demon warlock. THE Demon Warlock. The guy keeping you trapped on this island. Alone. By yourself.”
“Okay, I guess that makes sense. *rolls* NAT 20!!”
“…..you got him. Roll damage :( ”

I am ... so very late with this trend but hey I got here eventually!
I don't usually dwell on this part of Nadia's story, beucase everything that happens afterwards is the interesting bit, but this WAS a formative event for the character.
More detail about Nadia's backstory under the cut, which contains discussion of a life-changing disability, agression/anger issues, and struggling to deal with them.
The short version is that she got a traumatic brain injury at 16, and struggled with adapting for a while. She had a pretty bad time until she figure out the right coping mechasims, and so when I saw this going around, she's the chracter I thought of. But then I drew the pictures and didn't want to leave it like that, as she moves on and lives a long and happy life, brain damage and all. So you get the 3rd one. It's different, but it's OK. She's OK.
So, Nadia backstory! She gained a traumatic brain injury at age 16 while isolated from her people, and nearly died. Her brother Nathaniel saved her life, but when she was reunited with everyone, she and everyone around her struggled to adapt. Her behaviour was erratic and agressive, and she was easily provoked into violence, which in turn triggered fits of dispair at her inability to control herself and the fact she was hurting (sometimes literally) her friends and family. She suffered from often-debilitating chronic pain, and even more from social isolation as people withdrew from her and she from them.
The first picture is before any of that happened. The second is from that long year or so where she didn't know what to do or where to turn, and was miserable.
But I drew the both of them, and I thought, you know what, screw this. The story doesn't stop there. She didn't get hurt and then spend the rest of her life miserable and depressed, no matter how much the initial adjustment sucked. So I drew the last one. She healed a bit. She got better medicine. Her chronic pain lessened. She got better coping mechanisms and better support as people figured out what the actual issues were. She adjusted to a new way of living and working and interacting with people. It's not the same as it was, and she still needs some care and support because her mind doesn't quite do all the things she would like it to, but she's happy. She's good. She's OK. Which is a much better place to leave it.
