Since Rune is a changeling, I wanted to make some of her past guises that they might have used in the past. (The forehead mark is the one thing that doesn't change between her forms. She is skilled with makeup and can easily hide it if they so desire, though.)

The first guise (pics 1-4) is one that Rune uses when she needs to be Not A Changeling. They still use the name Rune Lovelace in that form, and still have all the vibes of an acrobat. (Also, she still uses she/they/he/it pronouns in this guise.)

The second guise (pic 5) is the guise he used to con people. Dress up fancy, pretend to be the son of a wealthy lord, and watch people fall over themselves to give him things. In this guise they use the name Ambrose (either as a given name or as a surname), and typically go by either he/him or he/they pronouns.

The third guise is one that Rune uses when she needs to just be Someone Else. I'm not sure what name they would use for this guise. They typically allow people to just assume and use she/her, but other pronouns are not unwelcome.

The fourth guise is one that Rune used for the circus they were a part of pre-campaign. In addition to being a trapeze artist and acrobat, Rune also doubled as a fortune teller, doing tarot cards readings for attendees before their call in the big top. In this guise she uses the name Lady Achlys or Lady Amaia and she/her pronouns.

I made my dnd character and her family in the sims! Balen and Eidelwen are Tess' parents. They have a strained relationship but their house is large enough that they don't have to cross paths very often. Eidel is very strict and has high standards for her children and Balen is far more passive. He spends his time thinking back on his adventuring days.

Joven is just a lil dude and Morrow (they/them) is a dramatic, moody teen.

Balen's genetics really gave up in there...

Tess (who is my character) is a really cheerful cleric of Chauntea. She makes a hard u-turn when she senses bad vibes and is maybe about to join an arch-fey's cult? idk we'll find out LOL

Rune is going to be my character for the new campaign my Monday group is starting!!! (RIP Kiran, who I never got to show off on this blog because he was a Tabaxi, a Dragonborn, and a Thri-Kreen. I'll miss it. Bugs and kisses.) We're playing Heckna! which is a Domain of Dread-adjacent horror-comedy campaign. The entire party is very macabre, and we should fit right in! (But hopefully not too much...)

Anyways, more about Rune. She's a changeling college of dance bard (a new subclass with the 2024 rules, kind of like a combo between a monk and a bard), and they used to be an acrobat at a circus. Since whatever world this party came from is clearly some kind of grimdark dark fantasy setting, the circus itself certainly had its eerie moments. (And of course, it was a magic circus.) When he wasn't up on the high wire, Rune also dabbled in doing tarot card readings for the circus guests, lying through her teeth about their pasts and futures. (While they used their true changeling form while performing in the big top, she used a specific guise when she did the readings, an older woman who used a different name.)

Rune carries with them a porcelain mask, largely featureless, but gilded with gold. When among people who do not know his changeling identity, she pretends that the mask is the source of her ability to change shape, putting it on every time they shift forms.

BUFF: Orc | Barbarian | Subclass: Path of the World Tree | True Neutral

✧˖ ° Being a strong fighter and leader is in Buff's roots. Or so that's what his father believed. You see, Buff is average. Unremarkable even. Buff never quite understood what being the son of a chieftain meant. Oftentimes he would found himself studying the world around him rather than paying attention to his duties. Replacing getting to know his subjects for mental acuity and self-discipline. Talking to people was overrated anyway. Disappointed, Buff's father sent his only son on a journey to prove his worth.

BONE: Skeleton | Fighter | Subclass: Echo Night | Chaotic Neutral

✧˖ ° Bone, previously known as " the Viper" was a masked member of the minor thieves guild faction out of the city, working as an interrogation and torture expert. This Faction and the local group of exiled necromancers have been at odds with each other in a dispute over a very powerful artifact that had the power to give eternal life with access an infinite number of universes and timelines. The necromancers accuse the thieves of stealing the artifact (naturally) and of course they did (obviously). After a few ill attempts of retrieving the artifact back ,the necromancers launched a full scale invasion of the thieves hideout. Knowing that all that follows is slavery or death, the Viper used the artifact, not knowing what to expect, binding to this soul and knocking him out. Unfortunately for the Viper, the Necromancers killed every one of the Thieves guild members and in fact, did take bone into servitude. He had remained with the Necromancers for 14 years, strung to a wooden board with all 4 limbs bound, suffering horrible attempts to remove the artifact from his being. Watching the artifacts side effects take hold, month after month his organic body rotting off and leaving nothing but clean white bone in its stead.

HOW THEY MET:

Buff's quest was much more difficult than he anticipated. What exact fortune was he meant to bring back that would be enough? And it wasn't like his father left him with much. Taking to a nearby village, Buff began doing odd jobs in order to take care of his basic needs. His next particular gig was enough to finally buy himself a new pair of pants. The catch? He needed to clear out a group of necromancers holed up in a cavern. Sounds easy enough except Buff's luck had just run out. - The Viper on the other hand, had a change of luck one morning and he is startled by screaming coming from the entrance of their cave. After 10 long minutes of the sounds of death surrounding his Chamber, The door is flung open and in front stood a huge, bloodied Orc. Thinking this is the end The Viper lowers his head, ready to meet his FINAL fate but is met with the sensation of a hard thud on a cold floor. The orc had severed his bounds, No words are spoken but almost immediately after, The orc smiles and collapses with a deep wound in his abdomen region now visible. Later the Orc awakens and notices bandages covering his wounds and a cold meal sat besides him, and in the corner sits a very small Skelton with a very disturbed look. "Did you do this?" asks the orc. "I felt the need to save you, seeing that you saved me" said the skeleton. After a while of bonding and healing the made the decision the adventure forth together, in search of purpose. During the orc's healing process, he introduces himself as Buff, the son of a powerful Orc Warlord. And when asked the skeleton's name he responds "I don't have one, who I was doesn't exist anymore, call me whatever I guess" and with a smile and use of his tribes naming scheme, "the Viper" has now become "Bone".

it's been a little over a year playing in my curse of strahd campaign, so an updated character portrait was due!! a year later so i'll give a little lore: her name is jeanne du vergier, twilight cleric and little lycanthrope. never let the sane one in your group be 19 years old. barovia native and the last pack follower of the night mother. in a situationship with god and about to have a wonderful dinner party with the devil himself. here's to another year in barovia :3
