Today on BikeBound.com: MONTJUÏC SPECIAL: Honda CB750F Super Sport by @luism.etchenique, inspired by the Honda Britain/France endurance racers stripped down to compete in the (very hot) 1976 24 Hours of Montjuïc in Barcelona — a race that Luis attended as a teenager. “I promised myself that one day I would build a bike that would convey a similar feeling; a bike where you could see its engine, the carbs, the exhaust — its guts and its soul.” This bike won 2023 Grand Marshal’s Award and 2024 Best in Class Award at @ridingintohistory. We saw it in person at RIH 2024 but didn’t get the builder’s contact info — fortunately Luis reached out to us! not my gif.
June 13rd 1976, Barcelona.
18:21 p.m.
Mapi's basement.
Six people were sitting around a table, silly laughing escaping from their mouths.
"I feel more mature." Mapi answered when Leila asked her how she is feeling having eighteen. The group looked at each other and let out an unison laugh. Mapi looked at them offended. "I don't know why you all are laughing. It's true. Something, clearly, some of you aren't." She muttered, crossing her arms.
"That is for you, Leila." Y/N points out, laughing hard.
The brunette looked at her, stopping laughing abruptly. "Me? I think she is talking about you. I'm more mature than you all together." At this, they all stopped laughing and looked, once again, at each other. But it is Leila who was the first to laugh, followed by the others.
"I think the more mature here is Ale. Right, reina?" Y/N asked in a mock tone, pinching her cheeks.
Alexia blushed for the nickname that someone gave her a long time and it stayed, since then, everyone referred to her like that and every time she blushes or someone that is not a person near to her, she gets uncomfortable.
The Catalan pushed Y/N's hands away, letting out a low groan. "Shut up. The attention today for the birthday girl, please." She said, her reserved side showing up. Clearly, Alexia has the power to sober up quickly or apparent it.
"She is right. The attention to me, please!" Mapi ordered, passing the cigarette towards Jill, their new foreign friend.
Y/N stood up and walked towards the fridge, grabbing a potato bag, opening and grabbing one with her fingers, she walked back towards the table, between Jana and Alexia.
"You can't smoke! Pass it to me." Leila exclaimed, ignoring Jana's protest and giving a long puff. "You are a minor, sorry not sorry."
"Y/N is too! And Mapi until yesterday! Why can I?" Jana protested, crossing her arms like a child.
"Because we are a lost cause." Y/N answered for Leila, chewing another potato. "By the way, I'm eighteen in less than three months."
"Jana is right. You are a minor." Alexia points out, raising an eyebrow in her direction and stealing a potato.
"And when you give the first puff too! If we are going to use that excuse, you all do it before you all have eighteen." Y/N said in a dramatic way, using her hands to make the point.
"I'm minor too." Jill muttered, passing the almost done cigarette to Alexia.
"We are a bad influence." Leila said between laughs, leaning on Mapi who was laughing too.
"Well. You and you." Alexia points her index finger to Y/N and Jill. "Not more smoking." The old of the group stated, giving the last puff to the cigarette.
The pair was turned to protest.
"More for us." Leila muttered. Y/N and Jill turned to look at her, Mapi smack Leila's arm. "Or not...?" Leila said doubtful, looking at Mapi and later to Alexia.
Jana was smirking triumphant, still with her arms crossed. "Less to share I guess." The young girl teased.
"You are jealous. Stop." Y/N said sternly. "Ale, you can't do that. What would we do if you took that away from us?"
"Study, for example." Alexia teasingly said, now with a potato bag on her hands.
Mapi and Leila laugh quietly next to them. "Are you laughing? You need to study more than us together." Y/N smugly said, referring to Leila.
"Maybe, but I can smoke." The brunette shrugs, smirking.
Mapi stole a potato from Alexia, and watched the interaction, very entertaining.
"Yeah. Sharing it with others..." Jill lowly said. Leila turned to look at her accusingly. Less Y/N, the rest look at her curiously. "Leila shared it with a girl that looked a lot like you." The blonde points with her head to Alexia.
Immediately, the older one turned to look at Leila, her face passed to be calm and curious to be angry and mad.
"Alba smoke this?" She asked lowly, her jaw starting to clench. The potato bag was forgotten on top of the table. Leila looks down, confirming it without saying anything. Alexia scowled, standing up from her seat. "She is minor too, Leila! She is 16, for god sake!" The Catalan yells, very mad.
"To 17 the next month! And it was one time, I promise!" Leila stood up too, stretching her arms in front of her and doing moves with her hands.
"We are going to get late to the cinema..." Y/N muttered, but of course she was ignored by the other two. "Anyway, this is better than Star Wars." She received an offended scowl and a smack by Mapi for that comment.
"The last time you give something like that to her! You hear me? And it is directed to you all too." Alexia said madly, sitting down again, crossing her arms while she breathed heavily.
The group stayed quiet, looking around them or between them.
"There is more candy?" Jill interrupted the silence, earning a scoff by Jana and Y/N.
•••
"This is ridiculous." Y/N muttered watching how Mapi and Leila can't stop rant about the new Star Wars film.
"It is not that bad..." Alexia muttered too, next to her.
Y/N looks at her and sees how the brunette shrugged, giving her an apologetic smile. The group was walking back towards Mapi's house, where all of them will sleep that night there, since it is Mapi's birthday.
Jill and Jana were walking behind them, talking about typical candy from the country, something that Jill found very interesting.
"You all have bad taste." Y/N stated, receiving a warning look from the older. "For your luck, I'm in this group and I can put some good taste on it." She teased, Alexia smacking her arm jokingly.
"Mom! We are here." Mapi greeted her when they opened the front door, followed in by all her friends.
"In the kitchen!" Her mother called back, Mapi leading the way towards that room. While they are getting there, a good smell of food makes them very hungry. "Hello, sweeties! Sit down, you all are in your house." Her characteristic cheer and sweet voice made them smile happily.
"Can we help you, Mrs León?" Alexia asked politely.
"Don't worry, dear. You can all sit down, it is almost done." Mapi's mother said sweetly, dismissing Alexia towards the table.
Y/N sat down next to Mapi. "Are you happy, birthday girl?" A playful smile playing on her lips.
Mapi smiled widely. "Yeah! The best part was when we went to watch Star Wars." She said the last comment to annoy her, even knowing both of them that in reality, it is the best part for the birthday girl.
"Of course it is." Y/N rolled her eyes, still smiling.
"Make room, girls!" Mapi's mom tells them, making both girls put down their arms.
"Thank you, Mrs León." Y/N thanked the woman, making her scoff.
"I told you a million times to call by my name." She said, rolling her eyes with a smile.
Jill's face was delighted for the food, even glowing.
"Mrs León. This smells delicious and I'm sure it will taste amazing." The blonde said grateful, starting to eat once the woman gave them permission.
The dinner passed between laughs, light conversations and Jill thanking the woman many times for the dinner, later the group went towards the basement, where they all will sleep.
The six girls once they are in their pajamas, they lay down on their sleeping bag.
"I'm full." Jill muttered, stretching herself inside the sleeping bag, a yawn escaping from the tiredness she feels.
Jana chuckled, next to her and looked at her. "You give yourself a feast." She murmured, a playful smile resting on her lips.
"I can't help it. It was so good." Jill whispered at her, putting down the sheet, the heat of June is the fault.
The two are in the middle, Jana's left was Alexia and Mapi while on Jill's right was Leila and Y/N.
The brunette lay down, putting the sheet down. "Ale... Can I ask you something?" The mentioned look at the birthday girl, curious.
"Yeah, of course." Alexia answered, seeing how Mapi is playing with her ring that was on her right thumb.
Mapi was looking at the ceiling, trying to ask for it without giving too much information and being careful with it. "When you notice... When you notice that you like... That person?" She asked shyly, looking at the last part to Alexia, a shape of red on her freckles cheeks.
Alexia frown. She doesn't feel uncomfortable with the question, but she felt confused about why Mapi asked her now out of the blue that in concrete.
"Well..." Alexia cleared her throat, looking briefly at the others, that they are talking between talking to them, not paying attention to them. "I think I always knew it... Then, this person approached and we explored... And I confirm it." She explained, gazing at her with soft eyes, her right arm behind the pillow.
Mapi nodded, biting her bottom lip. "Does anyone else know about it?" She whispered again.
"You and Leila. And I am planning to tell my sister." The hazel eyes girl admitted.
"Don't you trust Y/N?" Mapi asked, a little confused because the girl was in the group at the same time as her.
"Yes, I trust her. But I don't know what her reaction will be. And I think if she rejected me because... Of it, it would hurt me coming from her." Alexia honestly said, showing up her fear of why she didn't tell her friend.
The blonde nods.
"Why do you ask?" Alexia asked this time. Her voice sounded calm and soft.
Mapi shrugged, still chewing her lip. "I'm curious, that's all." She muttered.
Even if Mapi doesn't look at her, she raised an eyebrow, intuiting about why her friend was asking her. She better than anyone knows when to stop. So she didn't press, letting it for another moment.
•••
The next afternoon, the group was outside, playing some football, enjoying the quality time they were having together. At some point, Jill and Jana decided to grab some soda to bring to them from the time they are playing outside they are thirsty and they offered to search for it.
Alexia rolls up the sleeves of her black sweatshirt. "Well, Y/N is my partner now. Two vs. two, what do you think?" She asked at them, smirking.
"For me it's cool. I could win for once." Y/N muttered, shrugging. This comment makes them laugh.
"Do you not know about how Alexia's behaviour changes if she is losing?" Leila asked smugly, crossing her arms with a smirk.
Alexia rolled her eyes, throwing the ball towards the brunette and going to the improvised goal.
"Shit." Y/N cursed lowly, but Mapi heard her and let out a chuckle, patting her back.
"Sorry." The blonde gives her an apologetic smile and runs towards the opposite goal.
Y/N walked in front of Leila, who wiggles her eyebrows towards her. "Ready, princess?"
"That is what you call her when you two meet?" Y/N teased her back, crossing her arms about her chest and smirking triumphantly when saw the rare sight of Leila's red cheeks.
"Shut up." Leila lowly said, her jaw clenching a little.
After the four played for around half time, where the winning team was Mapi and Leila, Alexia scowled to Y/N while repeating to her that she needed to keep the ball and failing on it, the brunette lost her temper, finishing the game. It's when Y/N ran away with Mapi when they noticed that the other two friends didn't come back, letting Leila with a mad Alexia towards Y/N, she knew that it was the competitive side of her and didn't take it to heart, she just gave her time.
"Why are these two taking so long?" Mapi asked rhetorically, opening the door to her basement and stepping down, Y/N following. But soon Mapi stopped abruptly when she saw the reason behind it.
"What?" Y/N asked after she crashed with her back. She looked confused to where she was looking and a tiny smile approached on her lips.
Mapi blushed furiously about it, but she couldn't stop to look at them.
"Don't you see it coming?" Y/N asked curiously after they passed a minute standing there.
The blonde blinked a few times, nodding slowly when she registered the question. "It's weird." She muttered, shrugging.
Y/N frowns. "Why? Two people kissing? I think you see it a lot thanks to your brother." Y/N teased at the last part, massaging Mapi's shoulder.
Mapi rolled her eyes. "Ha ha ha, very funny." She said, her jaw clenching involuntarily.
"Let's go. We can grab some sodas and come back without them noticing us." Y/N said, passing the blonde and grabbing her hand, stepping down the few steps carefully.
Mapi looked at the intertwined hands, and without knowing why, she blushed, more if that was possible. Her breathing accelerated and her hands started sweating, she prayed for Y/N and didn't notice it, but it would be impossible to not notice.
"Are you okay?" Y/N asked softly when they are up again, still their hands intertwined.
Mapi nods, smiling awkwardly, letting out their hands and walking outside, two cans of sodas on her left hand. "Yeah, I'm fine. C'mon." She moves her head towards the door.
"Well... What happened with the other two?" Alexia asked when watched them return without Jana and Jill. Leila and Alexia were sitting on the porch, protecting themselves from the sun.
Y/N tends a can towards her. "They are kissing." She smiled widel, shrugging.
Alexia raised her eyebrows, surprised by the naturalness that she said. Leila let out a whistle, raising her hand towards Y/N to high five.
"Finally! They were getting on my nerves." Leila said, opening her can and giving a long sip.
Mapi sat down next to Alexia, processing all the new information that she is discovering at this moment.
Leila was aware about the tension between Jill and Jana, making her notice that she wasn't the only one to notice.
Y/N clearly happy about this, something that Alexia doesn't have to worry about anymore.
And herself admitting old feelings that she put aside some years ago.
The brunette next to her gives her a soft nudge on her arm, making Mapi blink and move her gaze away from Y/N, she opens her can and gives a long sip, looking briefly at Alexia.
"I guess we have more in common than I thought." Alexia muttered at her, chuckling lowly.
Mapi for a moment frown, confused. But later she knows why she said that. "Yes. I guess..." She muttered too, her eyes finding Y/N's face again.

On a day like today (February 27th) of 1976, the Spanish police killed the worker Juan Pozierro Punyon during a construction workers’ strike in Barcelona, Catalonia.
When Europa Press published this event, the Government of Spain forced them to publish a “correction” saying that their previous news story had been a mistake and that he wasn’t killed by the police but had died as a result of an accident at his workplace.
He was one of the hundreds of people from national minorities (like Catalans, Basques, Galicians) and leftists who were victims of the Spanish State during the period known as “Transition to Democracy” (after the death of dictator Franco). This Transition is praised by the Spanish parties, including the ones who consider themselves “left” (PSOE, PCE -partially predecessor of Podemos-) as exemplary, peaceful and blood-less.
Why, if there was so much blood, death and torture? I can only guess that they don’t consider the blood of Basques, Catalans and anti-capitalists a blood not to be spilled.

BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1918 ❤️🖤💚 Yosef Ben-Jochannan was an Afrocentric historian whose work focused mainly on the black presence in Ancient Egypt. He contends in his writings that the pharaohs came out of the heart of Africa and that the original Jews were from Ethiopia and were black Africans, and the white Jews adopted the faith and customs later. He has been accused of distorting history, and since his work contradicts the prevailing view of Egyptian and African history, it is controversial. Ben-Jochannan was born an only child to an Ethiopian father and an Afro-Puerto Rican Jewish mother in a Falasha community in Ethiopia. He attended schools in Brazil, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Cuba and earned degrees in engineering and anthropology. He continued his education at the University of Havana, Cuba, where he earned a Master’s degree in architectural engineering. He earned a doctoral degree in cultural anthropology from the same school. Finally, he attended the University of Barcelona, where he earned another doctoral degree in Moorish history. Ben-Jochannan immigrated to the United States in the early 1940s. He was appointed chairman of the African Studies Committee at UNESCO headquarters in 1945. He served in that position until 1970. Ben-Jochannan began teaching Egyptology at Malcolm King College in 1950, and then he taught at City College in New York. He was an adjunct professor at Cornell University from 1976 to 1987. He has also taught at Columbia University, Al-Azan University, and Rutgers. He led an archaeological dig in the Nubia region of Egypt in the 1990s and also led an annual trip of black people to Egypt. Ben-Jochannan is a prolific author, penning 49 books, such as Black Man of the Nile and African Origins of Western Religions. The subject of most of his books is ancient Nile Valley civilizations. He also wrote and co-wrote elementary and secondary school texts in the 1960s. He is the chair of the publishing house Alkebu-Lan Foundation and its subsidiary, Alkebu-Lan Books and Education Materials Associates. Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan died in Harlem, New York, on March 19, 2015, at the age of 96.
