#BarrysTea #KerrygoldButter #BrownBread #BrownSodaBread BROWN BREAD 12 ounces whole wheat flour 4 ounces white flour 1 tablespoon wheatgerm 1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda pinch of salt 1 egg, beaten 1/2 pint buttermilk Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine the flour, wheatgerm, bicarbonate of soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the egg and buttermilk and mix well with a knife. Turn out onto a board, knead and shape into a round about three inches thick. Cut a cross on the top. Place on a floured cooking sheet and dust the top with flour. More baking for St. Patrick's Day. ° The last of my traditional and not so traditional Irish bakes is Sunday comfort off the charts: Whiskey Tea Barmbrack. ° Barmbrack is known for being any quickly made sweet bread, usually with sultanas and raisins. ° I'm now enough of an adult taste bud wise to appreciate these warm, inviting bread like cakes. ° No mixer needed. Just soak the raisins and sultanas with strong Irish tea (Barry's is king), your favorite Irish whiskey, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar...overnight. ° The next morning, just add in beaten eggs and self raising flour and you're good to go. The last minute addition of honey and demerara sugar seals the deal. ° Recipe via link in profile later today. Back together again, and of course, we celebrate with food! Influenced by @lilly_higgins_ for breakfast, after Patrick completed his first course as instructor for @mcguireprogramme this week we departed #Cork and headed to #Cobh on a bit of a breakfast detour before making the long drive home... 🥚 🍞 ☕️ 🥑 A gorgeous little modern cafe right on the waterfront on Casement Square of the colourful coastal town outside the Republic’s second city, @seasaltcobh has been on our list for a while and lucky to nab a table here this morning for brunch: Avocado crush with lime, poached eggs, charred tomato salsa and chipotle oil on sourdough with greens; and roscarbery black pudding hash (with hollandaise — a wonderfully indulgent touch) with a warm pot of @barrystea.
