Hot take: that a plot's conflict or monster has deep symbolic meaning does not mean anyone who interprets those elements on a more literal level. Some people enjoy examining these things on a mechanical level, and them talking about a piece of media you love for its themes or character arcs on a level of "could Powerman defeat the deadly Succulent" is no more or less "correct" than your 300 posts about how the Succulent represents the soul-sucking nature of working retail.
Maybe some of them also appreciate the themes and the character arcs and bashing together Powerman and the Succulent can also involve examining how the characters would interact; I know I enjoy the occasional post about Columbo meeting Granny Weatherwax. Or maybe they don't! Either way, there isn't a wrong way to interact with media.
(also: a good metaphor also works on the literal level. If The Succulent can survive in low-water environments and thus cannot be starved to death, just like how we cannot simply ignore Mental Health problems and hope they go away, that's fine. If the characters don't at least try herbicide and you don't explain it, then you can't just say "because it's actually a metaphor". Obviously all metaphors have edge cases, but you have to have put in a lot of foundation work)

Welcome to Cozy Wednesday! It is my pleasure to feature My Father Always Finds Corpses by Lee Hollis today! My Father Always Finds Corpses Cozy Mystery Setting - California Publisher : Kensington Cozies Publication date : May 27, 2025 Print length : 288 pages ISBN-10 : 1496738926 ISBN-13 : 978-1496738929 Kindle ISBN-13 : 978-1496738943 ASIN : B0DFS3WP6N Audiobook ASIN B0DV16V957 With a wryly witty and assured voice and a vastly entertaining cast of characters, Lee Hollis puts a modern slant on the classic murder mystery as a father-daughter sleuthing duo are drawn into a case close to home . . . You never forget your first corpse. For former child star Jarrod Jarvis, that discovery was twenty-plus years ago, and a lot has happened since he solved a string of real-life Hollywood murders. Now Jarrod lives in Palm Springs where he writes and directs local theatre, while quietly grieving the loss of his partner, police detective Charlie. Jarrod hasn’t disclosed much about his sleuthing past to his daughter, Liv, who just earned a degree in criminal justice. There’s been distance between them since Charlie’s death, and Jarrod’s unsure how to bridge the gap. Liv, meanwhile, has put her career on hold in order to help her filmmaker boyfriend, Zel. His new documentary idea is to track down the surrogate who gave birth to Liv. Skeptical and annoyed by Zel’s pressure tactics, Liv goes to confront him at his apartment. But there’s no need to break things off—because someone has bludgeoned Zel to death. Jarrod rushes to Liv’s aid, surprising his daughter with his ease around a crime scene, firing off questions like a modern-day Columbo with better hair and wardrobe. Another shock is quite how many people had motive to finish Zel off—including a Russian film professor, a former First Lady, and a sexy Secret Service agent. Together, Liv and Jarrod comb for clues across the sun-drenched Coachella valley, growing close again. But while there’s nothing like murder to bring a family together, this father-daughter reunion may be short-lived as long as a killer is on the loose . . . Dollycas's Thoughts Jarrod Jarvis is a former child star who found his first corpse 20+ years ago. He was then able to crack the case on a group of real-life Hollywood murders. He now lives in Palm Springs, where he is still grieving the loss of his husband Charlie, who was a police detective. Jarrod fills his time writing and directing plays for the local theater group. Their daughter, Liv, does not know a lot about her father's interesting past, but she recently graduated with a degree in criminal justice. She was closer to Charlie than Jarrod, and Jarrod wishes they could be closer now. Liv hasn't launched her own career; instead, she is trying to help Zel, her filmmaker boyfriend, launch his own. He has pitched her an idea for a documentary about finding the surrogate her fathers used to facilitate her birth. She doesn't think she is ready to go there, but he is heavily pressuring her to at least take the first step. Before Liv has any time to think, he blindsides her with a meeting face-to-face with the woman who gave birth to her. Later, when she goes back to call it quits with the project and their relationship, she finds Zel lying on the floor in a pool of blood, his head bashed in. Freaking out she calls her father. Now, together they will combine his experience with her recently acquired skills to track down the killer. It isn't long before Liv realizes how little she knew about her boyfriend and that so many people are happy that he's dead. While this investigation may bring Jerrod and Liv closer, they need to be aware that there is a killer out there who could take great pleasure in getting rid of both of them. ___ Lee Hollis has introduced a great father-daughter duo with layers who develop strongly throughout the story. It's been almost 10 years since Jarrod lost Charlie, and his friends are pushing him to put himself out there romantically, and you can feel his struggle. Liv lost Charlie when she was just thirteen, and her dads never talked much about her birth and the woman who helped them. Now, it is forced upon her, and it is much more complicated than she thought. Jarrod's good friend, a former first lady, has always been there for him. He also has two best friends in George and Leo. They are a huge hit, the favorite gay couple of the older ladies at the local gym's Forever Fit exercise class. Charlie's brother Brody, a former WWE wrestler, comes to town, a kind, lost soul down on his luck, as usual, but Jarrod will never turn him away. Liv has been friends with Maude since she and Jarrod moved to Palm Springs after Charlie died. Maude tries to get Liv out to have a good time and willingly volunteers to help Liv with a little sleuthing. All of these characters are unique and cleverly crafted. The author has penned a very intriguing mystery entwined with unexpected family drama and an abundance of suspects. The victim pushed my buttons from the start, pushy and narcissistic, he was after dirt that could get him noticed and make him famous, and freely stole the ideas of others without a care. Politicians, Hollywood elite, and his girlfriend were fair game for the many projects he was pushing on a daily basis. Well, he pushed someone too far. Jarrod and Liv's investigation had them questioning a lot of people, even some they were close to, and I was thrilled to tag along. After many twists, turns, and hurt feelings, the culprit is finally revealed, putting Jarrod in desperate circumstances, followed by an exciting chase. This story is much more than a mystery. It's a study of family dynamics. Some totally dysfunctional. Some are in flux. Others are finding their way back and moving ahead. Grieving when you lose a loved one is hard, and I appreciated how the author realistically handled this topic. I didn't expect to get so invested in these characters in what appears to be a standalone novel. My Father Always Finds Corpses is a complicated and compelling mystery, lighthearted and funny, but it tugs on your emotions. Strong, diverse, eccentric characters pull you into the story, and they don't let go after the story ends. I hope this book is a huge success and the author and publisher spin it into a series. I have not had enough of Jarrod, Liv, and their friends. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Sexy Signature Moves: Troy Baker
Sometimes the sexy signature move is something brought out of your opponent. It's not always about the wrestling making the moves but what primal instinct they manage to draw out in the wrestling match. So with that in mind, I bring you the Troy Baker Ab "Bash".

Troy Baker "Bash"
The first actual match I ever purchased was Troy Baker's Tag Team Torture 3 on bgeast. Back then I didn't know a ball claw from an emission submission about the world of gay wrestling porn. I bought the video not knowing what to expect other than I'd get to a see an insanely attractive guy in some "pro" wrestling. Well to say I was awestruck is an understatement; the hot guys, the long lingering holds, but most of all the sight of a beautiful Troy Baker ab stretched and bashed, got me hooked.
Needless to say I was hooked and owe it all to that modelesque golden boy named Troy Baker, introducing me to gay wrestling and ruining all other forms of porn for me.

Appearances [Not all shown]

My contribution to the bashing of the Velma show. In this spinoff, the Scooby gang become full time private eyes uncovering the truth and saving lives. I designed them to bring out their most overlooked traits while adding some traits from detective stereotypes and past incarnations.
Freddy Jones-The hard boiled leader of the gang. Graduated with majors in physics and mathematics with a minor in journalism. Lacks self awareness but is a genius in his field. Is usually the bad cop and has the brass knuckles to prove it. Inspired by the Maltese Falcon.
Daphne Blake-The master spy. Graduated with majors in fashion, chemistry, psychology and MMA. Allows herself to be captured to infiltrate the enemy hideout. Uses a butterfly knife when things get rough. Not so useless anymore. Inspired by Mata Hari
Velma Dinkley-The peppy brains of the outfit. Graduated with a major in advanced sciences with a minor in psychology. Keeps the gang anchored and together. Expert in improvised weaponry. Inspired by Nancy Drew and kid’s book detectives. Engaged to Shaggy.
Norville “Shaggy” Rogers-The gang’s Columbo. Graduated with majors in the fine arts, acting, and cooking with a minor in medicine. Has high blood pressure. Is currently medicated for “special” desserts. Usually the good cop. Does a lot of legwork, whether running away, or kicking teeth in. Engaged to Velma. Inspired by Columbo.
Scooby-Doo-The loyal hound. Had to get brave for the gang. Doesn’t need treats to save the gang. Nose is as sharp as ever.

118. flowers for madame (1935)
release date: december 14th, 1935
series: merrie melodies
director: friz freleng
starring: bernice hansen (panicked flowers), elmer vincent (announcer)

i say this every year once we reach the end, but i truly mean it when i say: what a year! the last cartoon of 1935. buddy was kicked to the curb, beans made his debut, porky made his breakout appearance, tex avery joined the crew... things are starting to look up. 1936 would see the arrival of frank tashlin and carl stalling (both making their debuts in porky’s poultry plant), jack king made his departure, porky would surpass beans in popularity and begin to dominate the screen, tex avery released the classic i love to singa... lots of exciting stuff ahead of us. to close out the year, we have flowers for madame (the first cartoon to use 3-strip technicolor!): flowers join together to host a flower pageant, but a fire seeks to put the event in jeopardy very quickly.

it’s evident everyone at warner bros was ecstatic to show off their new 3-strip technicolor abilitiee, finally able to provide some sort of competition to disney. we begin with a very lush, colorful, blooming landscape of a bridge as an offscreen chorus sings “flowers for madame”. pan in on some bluebells, who, predictably, ring their bells to the tune of the music. elsewhere, two flowers engage in a ballet. definitely disney, through and through. an offbrand flowers and trees. roses bloom to reveal two kissing bees, bashful at their affections being caught.

a caricature of harpo marx plops a bluebell on his head for a hat and strums on a makeshift harp. a line of voluptuous flower ladies dance to the underscore of “oh, you beautiful doll”, an underscore used occasionally by carl stalling (rather prominently in porky’s romance to name an example). if nothing else, the animation is sophisticated and gentle, nothing too groundbreaking.

next, two snails trumpet a fanfare with the aid of flowers. they unveil a flyer, marching away to allow a curious crowd of flowers to congregate. the flyer advertises a flower pageant with promises of prizes. the flowers chatter away eagerly.

fade out and back in to a bee making an announcement over the intercom (more flowers), asking for the spectators to display their appreciation. thus cues the pageant--essentially a floral parade. a pompous flower leads the way, followed by two bees riding on some turtles. a line of fan-faring trumpeters, and thus a display of floral parade floats. the colors are vivid and beautiful, but nothing exactly exciting. two fireflies hitch a ride on the back of one of the floats. the float halts to a stop, and the fireflies light up their rears like red stop signs, the light fading as things get moving. a clever and cute little gag. elsewhere, a line of flowers dance to bagpipes, all donning kilts. animation is smooth and lively.

enter a little hayseed cactus, applauding the scene. he, too, wishes to enter. he darts over to his car, plants some flower seeds in the ground, adds water, and instantly vines creep up along the car, blossoming into beautiful blue blooms (buddy’s day out flashbacks). he turns the crank and hops onto his makeshift float, soaking up the glory as hes met with cheers and applause.
the judge’s stand thinks otherwise. the judges, perched in little flowers, boo the eager cactus. to make matters worse, his chariot explodes to pieces and he falls to the ground, now the subject of public humiliation.

more disaster as we focus on a stray box of matches lying around, conveniently positioned next to a magnifying glass. the magnifying glass filters the harsh sun’s rays right onto a stray matchstick, and, predictably, the match ignites. the fire crawls to the grass, and a sea of flames erupt. celebration morphs into panic as the flowers cry “fire!”, attempting to escape the blaze. an anthropomorphic flame singes the bottom of a lone flower repeatedly. thankfully, another flower scoops some water into its petals and extinguishes the tiny flame, much to the other flower’s gratitude.
however, that was just one flame out of many. the wall of flames surges on, prompting a snail to race off at super speed. the animation is a tad choppy and thusly loses believability, but the sound effect of a racing fire engine is a nice touch. the snail seeks a lilypad for refuge.

the poor cactus from before observes as everyone runs amuck, unsure of what to do. he spots a sprinkler and turns it on, creating a barrier between him and the flames. he mocks the flames, who hesitate to inch forward--some nice personality. nevertheless, another little anthropomorphic flame sneaks up behind the cactus and burns him. he flame turns off the sprinkler system, giddily motioning for his pals to wreak more havoc.

a very clever visual as the cactus approaches a watermelon patch, sticking a point in the melons to cause actual streams of water to gush out like fire hoses. the blazing wall is no match for the force, and the flames recede. the one humiliated cactus is now the hero as he bashfully drags his feet, the flowers cheering him on.

all of the flames are gone... except one. the pesky flame from before hides behind a soapbox, where a grasshopper notices. parallel to the ending of crosby, columbo, and vallee, the grasshopper lobs a chunk of tobacco at the flame and distinguishes it with ease. iris out as the grasshopper waves and winks at the audience.
a better entry than freleng’s previous billboard frolics. the excitement at the acquisition of 3-strip technicolor is evident. what’s a better way than to show off color than with flowers? it works, as the backgrounds and the colors are vivid and lush. however, this was a rather typical entry, heavier on the disney influence than usual. it wasn’t bad at all, there was a lot of personality, especially with the cactus and the flames, but it wasn’t particularly engaging. you’d fare well either way by watching it or skipping out, but, if anything, it’s worth a watch for the historical significance of it being the first 3-strip technicolor cartoon.
