i feel like how it handles local will be the question - utc/gmt inherently doesn’t have dst i thought? (could totally be wrong or misunderstanding a programming intricacy!!!)

You're right that UTC doesn't have DST - but sometimes systems use a mix of time paradigms, which can lead to hilarious results.

AO3 actually had a bug like this, where if you posted between midnight & 5am UTC, the post would behave as though the date was set manually (and not appear at the top of the search results).

It turns out that OTW has a public jira, and so we can see a ticket for this. The AO3 servers use UTC, but their Rails code for parsing posts was using Eastern/New York... leading to the weird posting behavior.

So I figure I may as well have the extra test in there, just in case something really weird is going on with mixed timezones or maybe other unknown flags 🤣 I don't expect it to be a useful test, but it's not much effort to add, and you never know when an odd test will catch something!
