Guy with no plans to ever watch the Ahsoka show here. Is it ever explained how Anakin was able to show up inside the World Between Worlds?
The short answer is: No. It isn't.
The long answer is that it's written very ambiguously and so you could interpret the scene a few different ways, one of which is that this ISN'T the real World Between Worlds at all.
For context since you haven't seen the show, Ahsoka gets injured in a fight and is then tossed off a cliff into the water below. We never see her land in the water, but the next thing we know, she's "waking up" in the World Between Worlds and Anakin is there. Anakin keeps telling her to "choose to live" and we ultimately figure out that Ahsoka has presumably been IN THE WATER this whole time because Chopper manages to sense her and he and Hera pinpoint her location which ends up being in the water somewhere and they pull her out. Ahsoka ultimately wakes up after being rescued from the water and "leaves" the World Between Worlds and we never see it again in the show, but she does see Anakin's Force ghost later on after she travels to the other galaxy.
So while you COULD choose to interpret it as the real World Between Worlds, it seems kind-of unlikely to me that it was meant to be the real World Between Worlds, given that it never seems to work quite the way it did in Rebels. In Rebels, Ezra has to go through a whole sort-of puzzle with the paintings on the wall of the old Jedi Temple in Lothal in order to open that particular door. Palpatine can't get into it until Ezra gets in there to open the door FOR HIM, and Ezra and Ahsoka have to physically run away and jump through their respective portals in order to get out of it. But in the Ahsoka show, we never even see a real door anywhere that she could've potentially entered and exited through, she's just... floating under the water, and doesn't even seem to have entered it of her own choice. Rebels also never indicates that if you went through the portals that you would be stuck in your old body somehow. Also the Anakin that Ahsoka is interacting with after she goes through the portals often seems to know things he shouldn't rather than actually acting like the version that would've existed in that time. There's also a sort-of... dream-like quality to the visuals when she's in the "flashbacks" that would indicate she hasn't REALLY traveled back in time at all.
My personal interpretation is that the entire thing is a Force vision that happens to have taken the SHAPE of the World Between Worlds and nothing else. There are two ways you can take this interpretation.
The first is that it's a Force vision intentionally sort-of... created and given to her by Anakin. What we see is in fact the real Anakin just... via the Force since he's a ghost, and using the concept of the World Between Worlds to send her whatever message he's trying to send her and help her make sense of what's happening. When she sees Anakin later on, it's an indication that he's been watching over her the whole time, which is why he chose to step in when she was drowning to try to help her.
My issue with this interpretation is that Anakin is really... dismissive and insensitive towards Ahsoka, he's rough and almost cruel in the way that he pushes her to get over a trauma that HE CAUSED HER IN THE FIRST PLACE. And I just find it pretty difficult to believe that this is intended to be the real "redeemed" version of Anakin post-ROTJ and that he's still treating Ahsoka like crap. And despite being literally one with the Force and presumably having access to at least Yoda (who we know from the Sequels remains a Ghost for decades), he's still the galaxy's shittiest teacher. And while I'll never be Anakin's biggest fan, it feels really disappointing to finally get to spend time with "redeemed" Anakin and he's somehow just as awful a person as he used to be and hasn't improved at all.
The version I prefer is that the entire thing is just in Ahsoka's head. It's NOT really Anakin that she's seeing or speaking to, but just... an image her mind has created to deal with the issues she's got. This is a Force vision of sorts that Ahsoka has conjured in what could be her final moments, confronting herself and her feelings in a more direct way than she's ever been able to do, having to literally FACE her conflicted feelings in the shape of Anakin as she knew him but flickering in and out with Vader. When she's speaking to Anakin in the vision, she is effectively just speaking to herself, and the whole sequence is just a visual manifestation of the emotional turmoil Ahsoka's been going through since she first sensed Anakin in Rebels and began to understand the truth of what he'd done and become.
For me, this explains why Anakin is sort-of still a shit teacher, still dismissive and insensitive and cruel sometimes. In many ways, THIS IS HOW SHE REMEMBERS HIM. This is how he used to be when she DID know him. He was a cocky 20 year old with secrets who often dismissed the consequences of his own actions as just... necessary to achieve a particular end. And she might even be exaggerating that aspect of him because she's trying to figure out how the person she knew could've become Darth Vader, so of course he's going to come off maybe a little MORE insensitive and dismissive than he used to when she's FOCUSING on his faults above everything else.
The other thing that works better for me in this interpretation is that there's this whole weird thing in that episode where they look at how Ahsoka was being trained to be more of a soldier than a Jedi and how Ahsoka worries about that because she doesn't think she'll ever have anything to offer to a student other than how to fight. The emphasis is that Anakin training her to be a soldier was ultimately a GOOD thing and helped her to survive, but that it wasn't the ONLY thing Anakin taught her or the only thing that defines either of them.
For me, this seems like a weirdly arrogant thing for Anakin to use in his argument if we assume he's the one controlling the vision and that it's really him. But if it's Ahsoka controlling it and dealing with her own emotions, it makes more sense. Anakin is behaving insensitively because she's focusing on his flaws, but her subconscious is reminding her of the ways in which he DID train her well, and the things that she can use to continue to view Anakin and her apprenticeship under him positively. She can convince herself that Anakin taught her to be a good soldier above being a good Jedi because he cared about her and wanted to protect her, and that the care is the most important lesson he taught her, one that Anakin may not have even realized he was passing on to her. This matches up VERY nicely with the scene later on where she trains with the old holograms Anakin made her to help with her lightsaber training when they were apart during the war and she uses these to finally decide that Anakin was a "good master."
In this interpretation, Anakin showing up as a ghost in the final scene of the show when they're in another galaxy DOES prove he's been watching over her the whole time, but it's more akin to the way Qui-Gon shows up in the Kenobi show. Obi-Wan can only SEE Qui-Gon after he's made his peace with what happened to him and found balance again. Ahsoka's subconscious may have used Anakin's image when she was dying, but it was never the real Anakin. But now that she's dealt with her conflict over her history with Anakin, she can see the real version of him. The ghost is also dressed differently to the version in the vision. In the vision, he looks a lot like we see him in TCW season 7 (as well as portions of ROTS) with the shorter dark tunic and leathers. But as a ghost, he looks more like the version that shows up in the remastered ROTJ scene, wearing the Jedi cloak again, which makes him look more gentle, at peace, and like a Jedi Master.
Obi-Wan and Ahsoka both struggle with the inability to understand WHY Anakin did the things he did and what this ultimately says about them. Obi-Wan feels like he failed Anakin and, as a result, failed the Jedi Order and the Republic and the rest of the galaxy. Ahsoka worries that she could BECOME Anakin in the future and that anyone she tries to train would also ultimately end up becoming Anakin in the future. Obi-Wan is able to move forward by accepting that Anakin made his own choices, and that just because Obi-Wan doesn't know or understand what why he made them doesn't mean Obi-Wan is RESPONSIBLE for them. Ahsoka moves forward by deciding that his reasons don't matter because Anakin was ultimately a good person and it must have been his destiny to do those things, so she should just not worry about becoming Anakin because whether it's her destiny or not, she can't do anything to change it anyway and she'd rather care so much that she destroys the galaxy than not care at all.
But regardless of how they each get there, both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka make some sort of peace with Anakin's choices and this allows them to see the ghost of their former masters watching over them.
Obviously take all of these interpretations with a grain of salt, but I do not personally believe that the "real" Anakin ever ended up in the "real" World Between Worlds in the Ahsoka show. There's nothing in the show that ever really indicates that he does.

Pascal characters' fave sex positions
It's probably been done before, but let's have fun. Doing (heh) the ones I've written.
Frankie. My boy wants eye contact. Would be into tantric sex, if he only knew what it was. Favourite position is lotus. You on top, but both of you doing the work. Slow and intimate, both hands free to roam and caress. Kissing, or foreheads together as you rock gently in rhythm. Plenty of opportunity to go harder, if need be. You gorgeous tits near his face. He's in heaven.
Javi P. From behind. Duh. He wants it hard and fast. Even when it's serious, and he's opened up to you, is devoted to you, and has started to heal from all the shit that happened in Colombia, he needs to lose himself in the grip of your cunt, the sweat running down his body, your wails of pleasure, the way your pretty ass bounces with each thrust. The messed up lad has some issues but knows what he likes, ok?
Ezra. Anything goes as long as your legs are on his shoulders and you're holding on to something for dear life.
Dieter. Amazon. Hoo boy does this babygirl love to be fucked by you in that position! Legs akimbo in the air, you bouncing on his dick like he's nothing but a sex toy to you. That's the good shit. He's gonna marry the fuck outta you.
Mando. One day he wants to be able to remove his helmet and have really intimate missionary sex with you, but he's not there yet, poor guy. Until then, the touch-starved little critter has to make do with the next best thing: your soft, round ass. God, it drives him wild to see that ass bounce. His favourite, therefore, is you reverse riding him. He mourns the fact that he can't gaze into your eyes and bask in the pleasure that he sees in them, but he is a patient man. He'll get there, eventually. For now, he enjoys the fuck out of your slow ride or energetic bouncing, your beautiful butt there for him to grab. Tin can man needs softness in his life, okay?
Marcus M. This is a man who will lie next to you and kiss and caress you for three hours straight before he slides into you and fucks you slowly on your side. It's not the most practical position but he wants both of you to be comfortably reclined, and in full body contact. At some point you're just sharing limbs and there is no telling where you end and he begins. It's really nice.
Joel. This middle-aged, broken piece of sweet, competent garbage fucks hard and fast because death lurks around every corner and this time could be his last. He'll dig so deep into you in missionary that you're sure he'll reemerge with gold or something. You always walk funny after. His knees always hurt. It's worth it.
Pero. He will have his dick sucked, thank you. The women he gets involved with are unsanitary and he doesn't need a new itch down there. Learn that the hard way. (Feral lil shit never stops to think about how often he washes his dick, though.) He will fuck a pair of nice big titties, too. No woman ever got knocked up from having her face painted white, if you catch my drift.
Dave. To suburban murder daddy it's not so much the position as it is the location. He loves danger, and lives for any kind of risky fornication he can think of: Walmart's parking lot, in the backseat with tinted windows, restaurant bathroom, his home office during a phone conference, the cinema, Thanksgiving dinner at his parents' house... you get it. He is the fingering king who can get you off with the crook of one of his fingers faster than any vibrator, before he presses you up against the wall or bends you over to fuck you fast and hard, before people start to wonder what's going on.
Oberyn. Hanging upside down in a trapeze or some shit. King is an athlete. Don't let the constant eating and lazy cat-in-a-sunny-spot manners fool you. He's just fuelling up.

20 questions for fic writers
thank you for the tags @maggiemayhemnj @perotovar @freelancearsonist @schnarfer 💗
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
55, I don't post everything there because I usually forget it exists, but it also has some of my older works on it from other fandoms. I don't really get ao3 - it just sort of feels like shouting into a void.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
93,343 (cannot write long fic to save my life)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
PPCU my beloved
4. Top five fics by kudos
Embarrassing because these are old old fics and even then they have barely any kudos lmao but I guess I'll tell you:
My Soul in the Stars - tumblr link (Poe Dameron x reader)
Anathema (August Walker x reader, abandoned series)
Nexus - tumblr link (Ezra & Cee)
Yours (August Walker x reader)
Survive (August Walker x reader)
but top 5 by notes on tumblr is completely different:

Closer to light (Javi P x reader)
inhale, exhale (Joel x reader)
Akrasia (Ezra x reader)
Spark (our house of flames pt 1) (Joel x reader)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to! They mean the world to me but sometimes I get overwhelmed and feel dumb just saying 'thank you' over and over.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
hm probably the smokes the ghost that keeps you close (Javi P x reader) or the San Valentin mini-series (Javi P x reader...what can I say, Javi and angst just works)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
the kind of love you've been dreaming of (marcus p x reader) is pretty sickeningly sweet all the way through, they're very happy.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not anymore no, I used to get shit about my Ezra fics and my August Walker fics back in the day.
9. Do you write smut?
Oh yes
10. Craziest crossover?
I haven't written any yet but I guess the Marcus M/Dieter fic when its done?
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No thank god

I've never been much of a shipper, but probably Bobbie/Chrisjen (The Expanse)
15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I'd love to finish take the long way home (Marcus P x reader) one day, I had such vision for it. But Marcus is really just not my guy right now and I don't see myself going back to it any time soon.
16. What are your writing strengths?
🤷lmao do i have any right now
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Probably dialogue. Descriptions. My grammar is atrocious. Making things interesting?? romance??

Great, but run it by a native speaker before if you are not one.
19. First fandom you wrote in?
It was either h*rry p*tter or Lord of the Rings.

20 Questions for Writers
I was tagged by the lovely @maggiemayhemnj - thank you!!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
Ten. I was cross-posting everything for a minute there, but I lost steam and now I only post here - except for Aphelion, which I am co-writing with @something-tofightfor. That still gets posted in both places.
2. what's your total AO3 word count?
68,449 - not counting Aphelion. My tumblr word count is... a lot higher.
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Right now just Pedro Pascal characters.
4. top five fics by kudos?
Gonna go by notes on tumblr instead because that's where most of my stuff is:
Bes'laar Din Djarin x F!Reader (based on artwork by @stealyourblorbos!)
Survivor Blues Joel Miller x F!Reader
Forever Din Djarin x F!Reader
The Cold Offends Me Oberyn Martell x F!Reader (The Viper & The Wild Thing universe)
Point of No Return Ezra x OFC Clara
5. do you respond to comments?
I try to respond to all comments because I appreciate them SO MUCH MORE than I can accurately convey. I love hearing from people about what they liked or what shocked them or what made them feel things, and I really love the chance to sort of have a micro mini chat about it in the comments. That being said, sometimes I completely check out and miss a whole batch or a whole fic worth of comments goes unresponded to for far too long. And I always feel bad when that happens, which sometimes results in me responding to things WAY after the comments were left, to the point where it wouldn't surprise me if the person has already forgotten the fic/what they wrote... but I haven't forgotten how much it meant to me that they read and commented on my work. So even if it's 6 months to an eternity late, I intend to respond to them all.
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
It Pours From Your Eyes Joel x Tess
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I feel like most of them have happy endings, but we'll go with A Little Christmas Magic - Frankie x F!Reader as perhaps the fluffiest happy ending.
8. do you get hate on fics?
I have gotten non-fic specific hate directed at my writing before, but that was a few years ago and it hasn't happened since. Which is cool because the fewer people wasting their time and energy on being unnecessarily mean about things - let alone about stories about silly little fictional guys - the better.
9. do you write smut?
I do, but I do not consider it one of my strong suits, and I typically only include it if it fits with the overall story though a few times I have written smut just to be filthy as a challenge... and as a treat.
10. craziest crossover?
I've been slowly spinning a True Detective x Tim Rockford crossover like a rotisserie chicken for months but I've only managed to jot down a few unconnected snippets thus far. And a title. It's gonna be called (maybe, if I ever actually write it) Flat Circle, Twisted Game.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
No, but if I did I would be absolutely PISSED. And I can't say I'd be nice about it.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, but that would be cool AF.
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! I am currently co-writing Aphelion with @something-tofightfor and it is so much FUN.
14. all time favorite ship?
In all honesty it's probably Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt. I was straight up ready to stop watching Parks and Rec if they didn't end up together.
15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
lol what kind of passive aggressive, self-doubt feeding question is this? I'd like to finish them all and I try like hell to believe that I will.
16. what are your writing strengths?
I think it's probably describing natural settings? But maybe dialogue. Idk.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Smut. Also keeping the momentum to finish things in a timely fashion, but mostly smut.
18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I try to only use it when it makes sense or when it benefits the story and not just as like... a novelty or an afterthought.
19. first fandom you wrote in?
Teeeeeeeeeeechnically? Like first one I ever made content for? I guess that would be the Twilight series. But I will not be sharing where to find that here. And if you find out where it is, you take that knowledge to the grave with you, you hear me? DO YOU HEAR ME, FRIENDS?
20. favorite fic you've written?
Even though it's nowhere near done, I love and am so very proud of Survivor Blues. But then again, even though it's a few years old now and I feel like my writing has grown since finishing it, Point of No Return will always have a very big piece of my heart.
Tagging: anyone who sees this and wants to play! Please tag me so I can see your answers!!

Hate how Stefan with John in 2x1 is romanticized as him "Stefan Salvatoreing" John. Even before he choked him out, I found him grabbing his hands while he was asleep and grabbing his shoulder when he got scared while sarcastically calling him a weak tough guy disturbing. I don't get how he annoyedly asked John where Katherine was at that time as if he would know while being in the hospital. Even though Elena wasn't there for Stefan's later bullshit I don't get why she judged John for hating vampires but not Stefan for being a vampire hater when it is more reasonable for John to hate them as a human and even if that wasn't the case and it was pure hypocrisy as she was claiming he still has the right to look out for his minor daughter's safety. He hass the audacity to judge Julian for being a bad father figjre to Valerie but will bitch at John for wanting to protect his daughter from him?Elena's response reminded me of how Aria in PLL claimed her dad was a hypocrite for not being okay with her relationship since he dated a grad student even though the situation was more nuanced than that. How do people only judge Elena for being with someone who harms her family when she was dating Stefan despite him doing so multiple times? I hate how Stefan would call him a vampire hater while being one himself and discriminating against tomb vampires, even ones like Harper that did not keep an understandable distrust/dislike against him and wanted to live in peace without revenge and forced John to drink vampire blood while bitching about being forced to drink it himself. People may say they don't feel bad about Damon being forced to turn since he forced his blood down Elena but expect sympathy for Stefan being forced vampire blood when he doesn't care about it being forced on others. Stefan self righteously calling John a vampire hater kinda reminds me of Ezra calling Byron egoistic when he rejected the New Orleans job that he arranged for him to leave town and his daughter as if he wasn't egoistic himself. Stefan also choked him while in the ICU and struggling to breathe and didn't know at the time that the Gilbert ring was designed to work under supernatural circumstances and how often it could be used, given he was surprised Jeremy came back and John revealed to Jeremy how the ring worked later in the episode. People act like Enzo choking Jeremy out and him losing consciousness for a few seconds is worse than Stefan with John in 2x1. Thoughts?
Stefan is looking for a fight in 2x1. He assaults Jeremy, tries to pick a fight with Damon, then assaults John. Damon and Stefan assault John for different reasons, and you can see that in the writing. Stefan's hate for vampires runs deeper than John's. That's why Damon alone is written with John's letter. "Whether you are now reading this as a human or as a vampire, I love you all the same as I've always loved you, and always will." Stefan can't love her all the same if she's a vampire.
John has every reason to hate Stefan and Damon. If Elena were my daughter, I'd want both brothers dead too. Difference between me and John is our hate. I wouldn't hate the brothers and try to kill them simply because they're vampires. I'd allow them to live so long as they stepped out of my daughter's life. I love John's character despite his hatred for vampires because at least he's honest about his hate, and he finds his way through it when he dies.
Fans often use the actions of others to excuse Stefan's actions. I'm different in the fact that I refuse to excuse anything. One wrong doesn't excuse another. John hating vampires isn't a free pass for Stefan to hate vampires. Stefan is just a hyprocrite, and I've always considered him worse. He hates it when people speak out against his relationship with Elena. This is what drives him to assault John in the hospital. Stefan threatens him because he doesn't agree with their relationship. It's Stefan's controlling nature, and gross af. The kind of storyline you'd expect to see make headlines in real life... a boy killing a girl's parents because they don't agree with their relatiosnhip.

politely requesting to learn more about ezra, love his design 🥺🤲
i'm trying to think of what i can say that isn't already written in his toyhouse, bc there hasn't been a lot of new development for his character in the campaign he's in (we can't get together with other players often enough 😭)
but hmm. ezra is a weird little guy to try to describe because his beliefs seem very self-contradictory lmao
he has this weird juxtaposition going on where on one hand he was raised on rough streets and pretty much never had a chance to grow up into anything other than a thug, but on the other hand he genuinely has a good heart. like if given a better chance at life you can tell he'd be just straight up a good and honourable person, but his path in life has been soaked in crime and led him to a point where he feels too at home with it to consider turning a new leaf. he often tries to lessen the negative impact he leaves behind though. he likes to believe that people will make good choices, but life taught him not to give second chances.
since he lived in the same city most of his life, frequenting the same area, he's well known by the locals, and most people feel relatively safe around him because everyone knows he won't unnecessarily try to hurt anyone who hasn't pissed off the wrong people. (Ezra is an enforcer, he carries out orders of his superior and doesn't act violently on his own unless in defense/protection)
Ezra is extremely community-oriented and feels strong loyalty to people he considers 'his own'. he would risk his life for his gang mates, as well as various civilians who showed him kindness when he was still young, which he views almost like an extended family (even though they likely don't realize that).
so like there's all that nice stuff but this man is also a vicious fighter and a very, very dangerous person if wrong actions are taken. he is, at the end of the day, still involved in organized crime. honestly he's just kinda like bucciarati's team. very much involved in illegal activities, but there's a virtue to him.

CHARACTER ASK GAME
Pete "Maverick" Mitchell + 21, 24 and 25?
✨ send me a number and a character! ✨
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
i actually already answered this question here, so i will give an honorary mention for this ask, in addition: i am a big fan of the whole tgm-mav-lowkey-being-the-daggers'-friends'-cool-dad trope. like. the idea that they get to know him after the mission and he's obviously taken a genuine interest in all of them and their wellbeing so they all just...stay in touch. the idea that the call and check up on him when they know rooster is deployed, that they start to leave a few extra things at mav's place because he usually hosts their squad movie nights and it's just easier to crash there sometimes, that they realize he doesn't have many people to spend the holidays with now outside of obviously bradley, and they all come together and drag him to a surprise christmas party with them before they go on their own leave for their respective family christmases. that's their emotional support old navy captain and if u wanna mess w him u gotta get thru 11 daggers and 1 son first so good luck!!!
that being said, tho, it can go too far i think, if we're not careful. barring a couple specific circumstances (jake and whatever fucked up childhood/non-existent parental relationships he has had comes to mind) the daggers all have families of their own, and entire lives before meeting mav. i don't think he's like. their DAD per se. he's their friends' cooler than expected dad ('your dad is an ace? that's so cool! i wonder if he has any stories to tell us! he once flipped off a mig while inverted? THATS SO COOL') that they can become friends with and look out for too, and i KNOW he'll be looking out for them. if they need anything he's right there, because that is within his nature. but for the most part, they're all adults who have friendships, and not like. Extra Children. if you know what i mean. except for jake idk i think he needs a role model or something but i guess that makes mav a secret third thing to him idk
24. what other character from another fandom reminds you of them?
oof that is tough!! i think that on most levels, mav is very different from the characters in other fandoms that i have imprinted on the most, so i'm not going to be able to do a 1:1 comparison here. but believe it or not the very first character that came to mind for me is ezra standish from the magnificent seven tv series, and it's not an exact match but i'm just going to provide my presentation on the matter (i am specifically comparing tg86 mav with ezra bc i have no one to compare tgm mav with lol):
horrible quality images (yes i did make these gifs but theyre very old so lets not talk about it lol) bc this is an obscure 1990s b-budget tv show shot on vhs probably. but this guy right here is either the second or third youngest member of his found family group (the seven ~lawmen~ a local circuit judge hires to manage an old west territory because it's so dangerous the sheriff and deputy he'd previously appointed ran out on the job). he's very accomplished at what he does, for his age, and has had way too many shitty life experiences and is much too world-weary already. everyone who works with him comes into it with a preconceived notion of how he's going to be. and how could they not? it isn't that the other six guys are short-sighted in assuming, exactly. ezra is direct about who he is and what he stands for, downright in your face about it, actually. you expect him to be kind of an arrogant asshole, and he tells you he's gonna be one. and then, for a while anyway, he kind of is.
loner type, doesn't need anyone, he's going to do everything his way because he knows best, needlessly theatrical about it in the process. they expect him to run out on them during their battle, and he does.... kind of. but he also comes through for them in a critical moment when he's needed most and they least expect him to do it, single-handedly taking out multiple enemies to save their lives. immediately, he adopted into the group, essentially, but ezra doesn't know enough about really having friends to recognize that it's happening until much later. additionally, his entire life and livelihood is overshadowed by his mother (who can be seen sitting in the bg of the larger gif), who is still very much alive, in his case, but whose actions and words define him, whether he wants them to or not. he had a shitty childhood bouncing between a hundred strangers' and distant family members' homes alike and is just overflowing with abandonment issues, and he expects the other six to give up on him at the drop of a hat, but they never do.
25. what was your first impression of this character? how about now?
the very first time i ever saw top gun was before tgm was ever a thing. i remember my favorite character being goose (isnt he always tho <3) and thinking mav was kind of a bland action hero guy with a story arc i did not understand at all or care about. i was like fifteen, tho, and hadn't seen hardly any movies or tv shows at the time because i had a kind of weird sheltered from media sort of childhood, so i don't think i had rly learned HOW to watch and interpret media and characters yet, tbh. when the sequel was coming out i rewatched top gun with my partner in preparation bc my parents were making me watch the new one, and they had never seen it. i was like oh !!! he's smol and traumatized. i bet there's fic about him and that blonde guy. i should look that up later. and then we watched tgm and that was it for me. i was like never mind him and that blonde guy i need to know if hIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS SON TURNS OUT OK......MY HEART..... and that was that lol. my dna has not been the same since <3
#star unasks#daffodilstark#TYSM FOR THE ASK !!! and for giving me a platform to/putting up w me going off about my mega obscure blorbo ezra standish. im love him#hes not a one to one for mav but probably the closest option i could think of if you only talk about the highlights that are similar lol.#asks are so much fun thank u for sending them ily <3<3#mine#top gun#stars scribbles

ok ok okay, so the Starless Sea is a fantasy novel by Erin Morgenstern, and it revolves around an underground magic library world, that is sort of alive? it's ambiguous, but it's this massive sprawling world full of books and stories and cats.
the main character is this guy called Zachary Ezra Rawlins, who one day picks up an old book of short stories in the library of the university he goes to (he studies video games), and starts reading it, and then realises that one of the stories is about him. it's a bit from his childhood, where he discovered a painted door on his way home from school, and almost almost tried to open it, but didn't cos it was just paint. he went back to try open it the next day, but it had been whitewashed over, but he never really forgot about it. the story ends with him *not* opening the door, and teh last line is 'and so the son of teh fortune-teller does not find his way to the Starless Sea. Not yet.'
he never told anyone about the door, but it was written in a book older than he was. he gets kinda freaked out about that, understandably, and tries to figure out why exactly he's in the book. on the back of the book is three little symbols, a bee, a key, and a sword. he tries searching for these symbols, but all he can get is one picture of a woman at an annual literary party wearing a necklace with the bee key sword on it - the next literary party is a few days away, so he buys a ticket and goes looking for clues.
he meets mysterious guy called Dorian who tells him a story about the Heart of Fate in the dark, and Dorian gives Zachary some strange instructions to break into a building and steal a book, and then some stuff happens and he meets this woman Mirabel (who was the one with the necklace, he works out later) who pushes him through a painted outline of a door, and he ends up in a magic elevator going down into the magic library place, which is full of piles of books and strange paintings and cats, and is really really cool. he and Mirabel have to rescue Dorian from the building he broke into, because there are some people who are trying to stop anyone ever getting into the magic underground library, and they'll do anything to stop people getting in there.
the place (it's called the Harbour, it's a Harbour on the Starless Sea) is sort of... crumbling?? it's very very old, and almost no one lives there anymore--it used to be full of people, but that was a really long time ago, and it's sort of a tragic shadow of what it used to be. but Zachary loves it, feels more at home there than he has anywhere else. 'homesick for a place you've never been' is the phrase used which i think is just so beautiful. and they have to work to save it, and he and Dorian have a bit of a crush on each other as well, and have to save each other a little bit AND I WON'T SAY ANYMORE OF THE PLOT COS I DON'T WANT TO SPOIL IT BUT OUGHHH IT'S SO GOOD
the cool thing is though, the book that Zachary finds himself, it's called Sweet Sorrows, and the book he steals for Dorian is called Fables and Fortunes, and we get to read those too, interspersed with the main plot. and the further you get through the book you realise that the things happening in those books are things that happened in the Harbour, some a very long time ago, and there are characters who were the same person, and all these metaphors winding together, and it gets kind of complicated but once you work it out it's SO BEAUTIFUL AGNSGNASG. it's all one interconnected story. and it's kind of sad but hopeful as well and hrmhrmn i've read it a bunch of times and every time i read it the beauty of all the stories just gets me completely and i notice new connections and oughhanganasgn
it's my favourite book ever and i love it so so much. everything is described so beautifully and it's incredibly well written and it's so magical and i love it i love it i love so muchhhh
anyways that's a quite a lot i hope you enjoyed my braindump :D <3
OH MY THAT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE I NEED TO READ THIS NOW! awjsjjshsjahshwkshsjwj
THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH ME! It seems like such a cool concept and I love o terconnected stories!!!!!!!!! *makes plans to visit library soon*

Before this movie came out, there were some reservations about it–whether it would be good, or if it would even be released. There were problems with the state of the DC movie universe, for starters, and the weirdness going on with Warner Brothers management. Despite all of that, the guys at Warner Brothers insisted that this movie was coming out, and that it was “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
It is… not.
Barry Allen is the Flash–a founding member of the Justice League and the fastest man alive. Upon getting a better grip on his power to travel through time, Barry decides that he can prevent his mother’s murder and clear his father’s name through a very simple switch-up. So he does that; except he’s thrown out of the timestream unexpectedly to his eighteen-year-old self’s life, where his mother is alive and he’s in college.
Except everything’s changed! Because changing history isn’t only going to change the present, it also disrupts everything else, so Barry’s now in an alternate timeline. And in this timeline, Zod is invading and Barry can’t find Superman or the League around to help. So he’s got to figure out how to save the world, and then get home.
Yeah, it’s another loose adaptation of Flashpoint.
This movie was being billed as the thing that was going to reset the DC continuity for the movies and put it in the new state for Superman: Legacy. Except watching it, the movie is plainly not that at all–the way the universe is left at the end of this movie is not really compatible with whatever they’re doing with the new DC movies. The end result is that the movie feels pointless in its conclusion, a funny little one-off that affects nothing.
It’d be more forgivable if we’d had more time with this iteration of Barry Allen/the Flash. Instead, much like Superman in Snyder’s movies, we’re skipping straight to big stories without developing these characters enough to care. And now we’re getting no more of Barry Allen, or at least this Barry Allen.
Which is kind of a shame? Because I went into this out of curiosity, and I didn’t expect that much from it. I remember for the first third of the movie or so, I was having a surprising amount of fun. I liked this version of Barry. I enjoyed seeing his interactions with his fellow Justice Leaguers, and I thought about how I’d love to see more of these characters interacting. I’d love to see more stories about Barry, but I don’t think we will, at least not anytime soon.
Also, Ezra Miller went kind of insane in the last year or so, and that’s probably an admittedly good reason as to why they’re not rushing to make more anytime soon.
The multiverse is pretty weak here–people have written pieces as to why we’re all sick of the multiverse by this point, and that’s fair. Other than the main Plot itself, where Barry is in an alternate timeline, it only really comes up in the climax, to sort of say, “Hey! We remember all of these past DC iterations! Do you?” Okay, fine, that doesn’t make it good storytelling. It’s not terrible, it’s just not great, either.
Michael Keaton’s a fun Batman. I’m going to be honest with you–I never had much attachment to the 1989 Batman. I liked this take on Batman, though I don’t know if that means he should have replaced Ben Affleck, or even the Thomas Wayne from the comic; the decision to reference the Burton film felt more like fanservice than something that actually made sense.
Also! Question: why does Iris like Barry? By the end of the film, she’s clearly interested in him, and while we know he’s a great guy, the way he’s acted towards her throughout the movie isn’t very appealing from her point of view. She should be incredibly skeptical about his prospects as a romantic partner, if anything. It seemed like a typical ‘Nerd guy gets The Girl’ Hollywood trope than actually writing for the characters.
This movie feels like it’s had a dozen reshoots added to it, to try to make it appeal to more fans through references, and to try to make it fit or not fit in a new DC universe. And while it’s great fun at times, I’d have preferred if the movie only tried to tell a singular story. I would like an actual Flash movie that had Barry interacting with his own supporting cast and rogues gallery–because Flash has an amazing rogues gallery! Thawne! Zoom! Captain Cold! Mirror Master! These would be fun on a massive blockbuster budget!
And it’s pretty darn egregious that, with everything that’s going on in Warner Bros, that they canceled Batgirl, a film with a female Hispanic lead, and kept straight on with this, when its star has actually committed crimes and threatened people.
I don’t know! I had more fun watching this than I expected, and that was a nice surprise! At the same time, this far from “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made” that was promised–I don’t know how someone even arrived at that proclamation, unless the executives decided “nostalgic references to previous movies” counts as quality. Given the state of Hollywood, that’s a possibility.
If you’re a massive DC fan, or liked other movies in this iteration of the DC universe, than you’ll probably have some fun with this movie. But is it a must-watch? No. Not even close.

ORIGIN STORIES: i've been asked a few times recently where the ideas for my characters came from, so i thought it'd compile a list.
burns, harris, juniper, burns, lila came about when i was in the third grade, reading maximum ride, enjoying x-m.en: fir.st clas.s and knew a kid named burns and thought, what if a kid named burns could control fire? i ended up writing spirit on a forum (following similar line of thought as the burns naming convention) and needed a reason for her to be alone, so i kind of built harris's personality around the need for spirit to be abandoned, and the other personalities came after that.
alex haven came about because [we @bluedprints already had theo] ezra haven said, and i quote, 'wanna get you fucking pregnant again' whilst having sex with spirit haven after their first couple's therapy session following ezra's unfaithfulness.
davy actually came about before second gen was a thing. i wanted to give juni a baby and wouldn't it just be crazy if @jupiter3's flynn was the father? then phoebe came about as we just kept adding to second gen and realized that juni/sam/flynn would have also had juni/sam kids
beck came about because i wanted more labkids one day because i was bored. @bluedprints and dax basically created the narrative of labkids with a vendetta against harris harris. tonje, dana, charlotte, river, and noel's ocs came first, then i made beck bc i felt left out
shipley (now written by @corsey) was the villain in the first spirit novel i tried to write. i knew he came from a cult, and i knew he also needed to be from a cult that no longer existed and that he was delusionally trying to continue doing the work of, so i came up with mackenzie, cass, and jm (the last of which now written by @jupiter3) to destroy the cult. i was ~losing my religion~ at the time so obviously i had to be edgy and say something about baptism and evangelical christianity as well. i ended up with elijah/shipley/mack as one triad and the throuple as another because trinities.
rachel is another product of the second gen baby boom.
rose was one of my first ocs affiliated with @bluedprints henry. we wanted siblings, we wanted sharp emotional contrast, we ended up sticking them in knight based on an idea tonje had about cult siblings that she fleshed out and invited me into
naomi is a product of the baby boom and also, doesn't rose with two beautiful baby girls and a loving husband just make sense for her arc?
graham is a product of the baby boom because @bluedprints' henry needs just one nice thing: his beautiful boys who were damaged and lost before henry.
kieran and cain came about as characters in the second version of spirit's novel. i needed a cult leader and i needed a right hand man. and then they just blossomed from there!
gabriela came about because i always knew comphet compelled cain to have sex with women during orgies in glass and second gen had a bit of a baby boom.
cullen came about because we needed some villains in second gen. naturally i made him kieran's son and the guy from you. instead, we have wife guy cullen glass (who also kills ezra haven)
alessandra came about to be an affiliated oc with @midcenturies' belén, daughter of the remarkable beatríz.
maryanne came about as an affiliated oc with @midcenturies @jupiter3 @corsey after we watched h.ustlers and wanted to engage with themes like femininity, feminism, sexuality, sexism, sex work, dubious ethics and morality, and modern survival.
adrien, kai-ming, kennedy, noah, esther, rian, jeremy, rian, and hassan were created for @bluedprints' archetype. i wanted to explore some of the same themes of surrealism and horror and obsessive artistry. i started to develop different ideas for artists/creators, their struggles, and their role in our plot.
olivia came about because of a plot i'm doing with @gildedlife coming up shortly that i'm super excited about!
hanna, veronica, and bianca came about bc @bluedprints and i wanted to give cassius and ezra some new york friends to have sloppy sex with on a regular basis. bianca specifically came about to be one of the many mothers to edwin's many children
mercutio came about bc tonje held a gun to my head and made me.
felicity came about because tonje and i put cassius through the ringer and he needed a respite. he needed the love of a good woman.
amelia came about bc i wanted felicity to have a daughter to raise with cassius :) and being a single mother before cassius made sense for her character development.
joe was created in a rp group because a) needed older skewing chars b) needed less grimy service industry rats in bands c) needed a normal guy on account of there being a werewolf waffle house
isla came about because we wanted a) california ocs for theo to interact with when they went to ucla and b) i wanted affiliated band ocs for a band called burger kink. isaac and clara followed, the former bc i wanted to give theo a sugar daddy, the latter bc i needed more evil women on my roster
elizabeth "busy" is @jupiter3's creation!
samuel came about because busy is edwin miles' (@bluedprints) oopsie daisy. aka he got her pregnant then fumbled her. yes.
rhea came about because i was watching real housewives and started thinking about people in the tourism industry having to deal with obnoxious rich people. i was further inspired by the flor.ida proje.ct
weston came about in an rp group created by @jupiter3 and others who aren't active on tumblr rn. basically they gave me a template for a final/slasher survivor and he just came about from that.
louis was an idea i had admittedly based heavily heavily heavily on an old ex who worked in restaurants with me and was putting off leaving our college town to pursue his masters.
maxwell is a product of the baby boom after we came up with the houlou ship @jupiter3

ABOUT ME 🐞🦟🐛🪲🐜🪳🦋🪰🦗🐝
I am garden-bug and you can refer to me as such. I love bugs big and small but mostly big (unless I have a microscope handy which I literally don't guys I don't have a microscope). My favourite insects are praying mantids or ants and I have written too many essays that talk about ant symbolism.
I am a literature student and literature analysis is not my degree it is my lifestyle.
I am multi fandom. I will list fandoms I engage with, my takes and my fics below:
Star Wars
OG Trilogy: Amazing incredible
Prequels: Flawed but culturally relevant
Sequels: 💀💀
The Mandalorian: Seasons 1 & 2 changed my life but none as much as season 3 which I was so appalled by that I spent the summer of 2023 rewriting
Ahsoka: 💀💀
Thrawn 1st 2 trilogies: Literally space Sherlock Holmes I love the Thrawn trilogies (haven't read the original yet I know shock horror but idt I'd cope)
Clone Wars: Very cool, Ahsoka my beloved. Darth Maul.
Anything not mentioned I either haven't seen, abhorred, or forgot what happened in.
My other takes:
New Star Wars is kinda… trash??
I do not like Dave Filoni's writing or his mando-verse or whatever he's calling it.
Ezra and Thrawn space adventures forever in our hearts 💔
Thrawn is an anti-villain guys.
Ships:
I wish I could ship Shin x Sabine but I've seen brick walls with more chemistry.
Thranto
DINLUKE!!!
My Fics:
Mandalorian S3 (+ Ahsoka series rewrite):
Force-school crack fic:
One Piece
I am on WATER SEVEN! I love Franky with my whole life and Iceberg is a beautiful man. Finished Dressrosa for Doflamingo and Law and Corazon. I cried. I’m kind of skipping around honestly because I’ve pretty much had everything spoiled I just pick an episode and go.
Ships
Zolu and Lawlu on the aroace spectrum my beloved 💞💞
Not been convinced by Zosan...
FROBIN!!
Oh my god dofuwani
Other takes:
I LOVE OPLA! It stole my heart. OPLA cast my beloved. So good. Amazing. Even my mum loved it.
Yes it’s a little different to the manga/anime and misses some details, but I think it does a brilliant job for what it is, capturing the essence of One Piece and making it more accessible to a wider audience. You would not catch my mum watching the anime that’s all I’m saying.
Crocodad/Crocomom is real idc
The one piece is real
My fics:
This was meant to be a silly genderbend dofuwani fic but it derailed significantly. Now it’s like 30k, Croco’s got a traumatic backstory, Luffy abandonment complex origin story *spoilers: crocomom*, Doffy has some gender realisations, fem dofuwani has taken over my brain like a fungus, it’s also somehow just really really fun to write.
Death Note
I don't interact with this fandom much because my takes are shaped by my AU so I literally relate to nothing. Death Note has be in a constant choke-hold just always like it’s always there in the back of my mind. I think it made me who I am. Uhh help.
Ships:
Not a lawlight shipper. Light was mean and evil and L deserved better 11yr old me was distraught and my feelings have never changed.
L x Lola (OC)
In my AU Near and Mello are raised as siblings so their ship kinda freaks me out.
Idc abt Matt I never even wrote him into my fic (rip).
Mello x Halle my beloved. I love when two bisexuals fall in love.
Other takes:
The manga is better.
The anime deserves a re-adaptation??
Near is my absolute favourite fictional character ever (genuinely do not know why huh) he is so annoying and I adore him.
Mello didn't die what L and Lola saved him.
My Fics:
I wrote this when I was 12 but it is the basis for my AU and deserves all the honorary mentions:
Jujutsu Kaisen
WHAT THE FUCK -
My fics:
Cosy one-shots basically:
Bungou Stray Dogs
Chaos shambled disarray that somehow I enjoy.
Pisses me off but it has its moments.
Ships:
Sokoku is my all time absolute favourite ship ever of all time. Yeah no it still is I just checked.
My fics:
Dazai and Chuuya get hit by a tsunami oh no they have to face their tumultuous feelings for each other (spiral) and accidentally adopt/rescue a small child:
Ninjago
JUMP UP KICK BACK WHIP AORUND AN D SHPIN -
I love Ninjago. Lloyd my beloved. Zane is me fr.
Ships:
Jaya
Zane/Pixal
Kai/Skylor
Llorumi is a NO Harumi is an irredeemable monster and you cannot convince me otherwise. My sweet Lloyd deserves better.
I don't ship any of the ninja with each other ESPECIALLY not with Lloyd the age thing is a mess.
Images used in the ninjago memes are from Pinterest and saved to this board under the ‘I’m gonna make memes’ section: https://pin.it/4rN3gIj

Saw a lot of Ahsoka posts on my dash earlier and had a small ahhhh!! that I had misremembered the air date. But no it’s ok it is still August 23rd.
Anyway I have a lot of fears about this show (and a lot of anticipation) because it’s my beloved Ghost crew.
Honestly though the biggest fear in my mind right now is that Ezra is going to be the masked bad guy. I know he dabbled with the dark side at the start of season three, and it’s a lifelong struggle. I know in Jedi Survivor Cal Kestis faced his own version of that struggle which might lead to more in the next game (I presume there will be a third). So it’s not without precedent and maybe that’s why I don’t want it.
It just feels tired to have Ezra fall to the dark side. Yeah he could find a way back to some kind of life like Reva did. I also know that as Ezra played no part in the sequel, with Luke or Rey, that he has to be written out somehow and that a happy ending probably isn’t on the table. A similar fate no doubt is in store for Cal Kestis to keep him off the board somehow.
I’m not one of those that hate Order 66 survivors because there is still only a handful out of 10,000. It feels a hell of a lot more realistic to go with the idea that a first cut got a lot of them. First strike decimated the masters especially, as they were in the thick of the war, or had younger Jedi to protect. After that it was hunting down the escaped Padawans, or the knights who had been on solo missions etc. They would have never established the Inquisitors if there hadn’t really been any to hunt. Time on the run cleared up almost everyone over the years between Order 66 and A New Hope. So I find it realistic that there were survivors, I like it as a story, but I hate it because they decided that Luke had to be the only Jedi from A New Hope on which puts an unfair expiration date on all the other characters that we care about.
Personally I don’t see why they had to go in that direction. The rebellion was more than one cell. It always was. So yeah there weren’t any other Jedi alongside Luke for the three original trilogy movies. Didn’t mean they weren’t out there - could just have meant they were doing other things. The first Death Star mission got laid on fast, the second they had time so it’s a little more suspect they wouldn’t have called back any other Jedi to help, but then again they didn’t need them. Just people blew up the second Death Star, just people dealt with the ground force. Luke’s mission was more personal than anything and yeah a great distraction and ensured the Emperor ‘died’ but that was hardly the main goal.
Anyway I want Ezra to have made friends in Wild Space, connected with more awesome cool creatures. To have a lot of stories to tell his family when they find him, and it can all be warm and loving because they didn’t doubt one another. And he has that solid certainty of a Jedi that he really came to own in season 4, and he protects his family and tells Jacen all about his dad. Just Ezra being grown but still himself and still family.
Maybe it’s a cheat to say “just because we didn’t see it doesn’t mean it wasn’t always there”. But why not? Adding new material is at its core filling in blanks. If some of those blanks include more Jedi being alive for longer then I am ok with that.
I just don’t want to see Ezra all twisted and agonised, and have to witness Hera and Sabine grapple with him being lost, and all the anguish of having to fight their family. Just no. Been there, done that, bored with it. Give me supportive family instead, thank you.

is anyone here old and online enough to remember the final fantasy vii house? if you don’t, rewind to the turn of the century, 20 odd years back. i haven’t brushed up on the details, but i’ll give you a general synopsis.
so, this 19 y/o with a troubled home life – i think they were trans, which i only bring up to give some context as to how someone might stuck end up in a situation like this, because they need support wherever they can find it – ends up meeting some people at a con who are really into cosplay and really into final fantasy vii, jrpgs, anime, amongst other 90s turn of the millennium stuff, and ends up living with this deeply troubled lesbian couple, and some orbiters that come and go. “kinnies” wasn’t really a term around at the time, but that’s probably the closest description to what they were. “there’s this parallel universe, not one that’s just alternate potentialities of our world, but anything you can think of or imagine or conceptualize is spawning into a reality in and of itself. therefore, you can have these spiritual soul bonds with fictional characters. you are them, and they are you, and you have a dimensional link to this character from a video game that was written by a japanese guy who worked 80 hours a week” they all engage in this to varying degrees, but the person at the center of this did so the most strongly. they really sincerely believed this and it was this nightmare situation of this one central individual doing weird torture rituals to people. like putting them into ice water baths and stuff to try and bring forth their connections to these characters... but at the same time, making everyone else pay the bills and do the housework and everything. a proto cult. the initial kid who moved in with them gets out of this situation eventually and issues a warning to the ffvii fandom.
if you google final fantasy vii house, you’ll find videos and summaries. the original callout page is still up and down the rabbit hole did an episode about it.
that basic idea that “all the movies you love exist in a parallel universe that exists unto itself and can interact with ours” is something i’ve seen fiction that touches on it. wishbone goes into the book and becomes one of the characters. anybody remember wishbone? or the never-ending story. those were most of my imaginary kid scenarios when i was a kid playing in my back yard. some iteration of me interacting with all my favorite characters. it’s kind of... a stunted, juvenile mindset. but there are some people who don’t grow up and who are so, well, mentally ill that the intersection of these things makes their filter for reality so busted. they’re so emotionally connected to whatever fictions they escape into that they turn this into a cosmology that they really, sincerely believe in. and as the internet coalesces and comes into being, scattered individuals that have taken the ball and run with it on these fictional contrivances interact with each other and reenforce one another’s delusions. the story of tumblr dot com.
chris-chan is another huge example of this. if you look at the early chris-chan lore, like making billy mays the mayor of cwcville, which is something she was really upset about initially. that limitless capacity to make yourself believe whatever you want to believe, regardless of the external world. pure solipsism. the world is what i make it and i live entirely in my delusion. the same cosmology: all the fiction i love is real, and i can really meet those characters. ezra miller’s cult thing seems like it’s also hitting the same beats
as more and more people get online and grow up in a media-saturated environment, and as corporations embrace the multiverse concept as a way to have, like, 8 different versions of spider-man for every demographic and have them meet, i think this is going to become more a cosmology or ideology that gets built into new-age cults, etc. not to be super doom & gloom, because this is going to be an insane crank belief in the same way that if you went back 50 years, there were plenty of other insane crank beliefs. but i think this is going to be the new dominant one because, absent anything else to get invested in, absent a world of class consciousness or meaningful political movements, but post the atomic bomb, it’s kind of hard to have conventional religious beliefs.
even the people i know who are converting to catholicism, there’s a kind of post-modern self-awareness that is different from the sincere un self-reflective faith that would have constituted most people’s engagement with religion, like, 500 years ago. it has the same pieces of all the other new age stuff that gained prominence in the decades post wwii. it’s a search for something that fills a spiritual and social void, but can square with a reality where personal religious belief no longer seems tenable.
“what am i emotionally connected with?” i don’t know, sonic the hedgehog. or the flash . or kylo ren. or whoever. it’s so desperate to satisfy that emotional connection with those characters and their worlds, you convince yourself there’s some way to actually spiritually, mentally, even physically connect with them. that they are more than just fiction.
we’re gonna keep seeing more and more of this kinda shit. this is just the beginning.
and the core person behind the final fantasy house is still out there to this day.

Thoughts on the new Vampire Weekend album Only God Was Above Us
Wednesday, April 10, 2024 2:08 PM
Okay, so I don't subscribe to any music streaming services. I'm a cheap person. Also whenever I have I always forget and then never listen to anything, you know how it goes. Maybe a year ago I decided I would just buy whatever music I wanted to listen to, because my consumption these says is pretty low and I just missed that old thing of owning music I liked. And yeah, I buy very few albums at this point.
All that to say when I saw Vampire Weekend was putting out a new album I PREORDERED it as soon as I could. This is probably my favorite current band, or the best one I know of as a guy who doesn't follow music as closely as he used to. They take like 5 years to put out an album and then when they do every single song is this perfect little masterpiece where every second of it has been deliberated over and from a production point of view it's just fascinating and inspiring. Or, you know, actually, after listening to the album I went back and listened to some of my own music I'm currently working on, that I've felt proud of, but all I wanted to do was toss it in the garbage. Ha. So maybe "inspiring" isn't the right word. Humiliating? Hmm.
Ezra Koenig is a songwriter I have a lot of admiration for. He writes the most thought-provoking lines over nonstop, earworm melodies. It's extremely catchy music filled with massive ideas. This new album is a lot about looking back at the old world you loved and maybe feeling disconnected to the current one but ultimately letting all of that go. It's a meditation on nostalgia and who gets to make the rules, how all of this is passed on generation after generation, and how things become "classical", to cite a specific song.
Sonically, this is a much more abrasive album than their 4 previous releases. Deterioration is a theme both lyrically and in the music. I think that could throw some listeners off but keep in mind this is all intentional and a part of what they're communicating here.
I got into this band around the release of their 3rd album, Modern Vampires of the City, after completely missing the first 2. MVOTC has been my favorite so far, a modern masterpiece in my opinion. After being so impressed by it I went back to their self-titled debut and Contra and was once again blown away. This is a band whose worst songs would be the best in another band's whole career. I will say I'm kind of glad I got into them late because I may have written them off early on if I only saw the preppy, Ivy League thing and didn't know it was partly a joke. I think that image is the first thing many people think of if you mention the band and I often want to tell them to take another listen. This is one of the great modern bands. If they keep going they're going to be putting out worthwhile music for a very long time. They've just got all the right parts and the creative talent is substantial. To put it more succinctly: if you think this is just some millennial hipster band you aren't seeing the full picture; these guys are lifers and we're lucky to get to listen to them.
Anyway, their previous album, Father of the Bride, was a change of pace after losing Rostam Batmanglij, a key band member and producer. It was more expansive, with 18 tracks, and more experimental after the tightness of the first 3 albums. I love probably have of it and like the rest. Some songs are some of the best they've ever put out but it's pretty uneven overall, I believe intentionally so. I think they wanted to try different things and poke around in directions they hadn't gotten into before.
Only God Was Above Us feels most connected to MVOTC, which for me personally is fantastic. I honestly don't know, after just a few days, which is my favorite but I'm pretty sure they're numbers 1 and 2 for me. I kind of over-listened to the 4 singles when they came out, almost to the point of burnout, so right now I'm trying to hear them in the context of the whole 10 songs and I think I'm in an adjustment period. Ha. Right now my favorite songs are "Ice Cream Piano", "Capricorn", "Prep-School Gangsters", "Mary Boone", and "Hope". I'm curious how the album will feel in a few months but I'm sure this will be one of my favorites of the year, if I even buy anything else. lol

Malachi 1:1-2:17, Revelations 21:1-27, Psalm 149:1-9, Proverbs 31:10-24
Today is the 30th day of December, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian, wow guys. Tomorrow's the last day of our journey. We have made it through almost another year, we’re not there. But wow, we've done it. And congratulations on that. We'll talk about that more tomorrow, but here we are, encountering the last book that we will encounter in the Bible, and that is in the Old Testament and that is the book of Malachi, the last of the minor prophets. It’s the last book that we’ll get into this year.
Introduction to the Book of Malachi:
The name Malachi means ‘my messenger’ and so, scholars have debated about, is that a name, like is this book named after a prophet named Malachi, or is this book called my messenger and it was written by somebody else. For our purposes, we’ll assume that the author was a prophet of God, and his name was Malachi. And he was probably a contemporary of Ezra and Nehemiah, which we read not too long ago. But there's nothing outside of the book that is known about him. He lived about a century after the Persians defeated the Babylonians and started letting the Hebrew exiles go back to Jerusalem and start rebuilding their homeland. And it had been more than 50 years since the temple, which…which was erected and spurred on by the voices of Haggai and Zechariah, which would just read, had been rebuilt. But the promises that restoration and prominence would come back to them, that didn't happen. And so, the people were in their ancient homeland, but the glory of their former days did not come back. And so, they were discouraged, and they were a distant tiny people in a province of the Persian Empire. And because of those circumstances, the people became disinterested in their passion for God wasn't working out. Right, and so, the moral and spiritual decline that we've watched so many times in the Bible, happened. They stopped sacrificing pure, spotless, blemish free sacrifices that they have been commanded by God. The priest started using the blind and blemished animals. And the law was receding to become less and less of a relevant plum line for their culture. And so, into all that Malachi comes, probably the last prophet of the Old Testament age, just rejecting that, rebuking the faithlessness of the people and calling them to return to God. And so, we’ll read this and after Malachi, it would be 400 years before another prophetic voice came, in the voice of John the Baptist, which would bring about the onset of what we, what we know as the New Testament era. And we may wonder about the 400 years, what was going on in those 400 years. In part, we can turn to…to writings from that time, from the in between. They’re known as the Apocrypha and they’re many Christian traditions that some of these books are considered as Scripture. Others don't hold them as Scripture. There’s a lot of versions of the Scriptures that include the Apocrypha, others don't. And this isn't really me saying hey, so we’re getting to the end of this and there was 400 years, and maybe you should read the Apocrypha. It’s just, it's writings from the time between the Old and the New Testament and tells a story that kind of leads forward. Maybe the best way that we can understand this is what was written in the Geneva Bible, that was, that was a…a English version of the Bible before the King James version and it included the Apocrypha. So does the King James version, by the way. But in the Geneva Bible it says these books were received to be read for the advancement in furtherance of the knowledge of history and for the instruction of Godly manners. So, there are writings that are not in the Bible and biblical but are from the time between, what we’re about to read in Malachi and what comes as the New Testament begins in the book of Matthew. But I guess that's enough, that’s enough for now. Let's actually get into the book of Malachi. And today we will read chapters 1 and 2.
Prayer:
Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us to Malachi, the last book that we will encounter, all 66 books now, and we’ll conclude them all tomorrow. And so, we stand here thankful for Your faithfulness to us, Your presence in our lives, the direction that You have given us, the clarity, the patience and understanding and long-suffering. We love You God. May we love You in spirit and in truth, and may we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:
This is From Junk to Treasure. And I have a prayer request for my grandson Trenton. Just a couple weeks ago, he was in a car wreck where he was in the back seat of a friends car, and his friend had a wreck. He was treated and released. Last night, in the middle of the night, he was in a different vehicle with the same friend and the guy had a wreck and it rolled the vehicle four or five times. Trenton’s phone went dead and we have no contact with him now. And we are having trouble finding out what hospital he is in. And so, I need prayers for my grandson to be located, for the hand of God to hold him until he can get treated or we can get ahold of him to find out what is going on. He was just at church Sunday morning for the first time in years. And then, he has another car, involved in another car wreck from a friend that was driving. So, we need him covered in prayer and my daughter is a nervous wreck because she can’t find him. And his phone is obviously is still dead because it went dead as he was calling her to tell her he needed help. So, thank you very much for your prayers.

May you heal them so that they can mount up with wings like eagles and be strong as You renew their strength, Lord. Yes, Your word is just so faithful and so sweet, and so beautiful and it’s just so powerful in our lives, Father. So, I come before Your presence, Father, asking You for Your daughter, dear God, I’m before Your presence at this moment, Father. I just heard her prayer request, Lord. Whatever it is, whatever it is that she’s going through, dear God, she is not claiming it. And praise God for that, I love that. When we say, I have this, I have that, you know, I feel like we are claiming it, you know. We should say, they found this in me, or the doctor said this and this and that, whatever. You know, but in the name of Jesus, we will say that we are not claiming whatever it is. She’s not claiming whatever it is that she’s going through. I love you Father, and I know that in the name of Your son Jesus, she’s going to hear a good report from the doctor. And I thank You for listening to us. In Jesus name. Amen. I love you my sister Andrea. Big hug. Love you, bye.

EVERY SUN THAT EVER DIED UPDATE #4
DISCLAIMER: this is my original work and plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated.
you can find update # 1: here, update # 2: here, and update # 3: here.
it seems to be a running tradition that i'll post a writing update and then disappear for four months. and here we are again! it's been so long since my last update that i've written almost 30k words since then, and it takes me an unnaturally long time to write that much usually. i've actually written so much that it definitely won't all fit in this update, so i'm going to split the content over two or three updates (which i literally said i would do last time and it still took this long so don't rely on me for that hehehe) i also havent posted an update in so long that literally no one posts writing updates anymore.
there's not much to say about the process of writing this because i can hardly remember since it was so long ago oops! also be warned this is a very very long update. without further ado, excerpts and taglist are below the cut!
CHAPTER 11: BEACH HOUSE
Asher and Ezra arrive at the beach house they're renting for the summer and this chapter is just very wholesome in general. lets ignore the fact that they somehow had the money to rent a house even though they're both broke. in this house we don't care about logic if it ruins the aesthetic <3
The kitchen is washed in a pale lemon light, shadows leafing across the cedarwood table and countertops. A massive window spans the dining room wall, and the chiffon curtains billow like ghosts in the light breeze.
From the open window, Asher can see everything. The slope of sand dotted with picnic blankets, young couples cupped in sunlight and old couples under wide poplars that stipple the sand with shadows. Driftwood jots the shoreline, and children tiptoe across the wood like gymnasts. The leftover ashes from a campfire are half-buried by the sand, rustled by the light breeze. The ocean is a haze of bodies, tide lapping against the shore and sucking at sandcastles and forgotten plastic shovels left in the sand. It’s breathing, that’s what he always thinks when he sees the ocean. Everything seems to breathe – the poplar with the scalloped leaves that fritz against the window, the wind that rustles them, the rain that waters them. It’s all alive and it’s all dangerous if it wants to be. A briny wind rustles his hair and blisters his cheeks with cold.
here's asher waking up from sleeping on the couch the first morning:
Asher glances at the clock strung above the stove. 10:37. He stands up and walks around the silent living room, passing in and out of the mirages of sunlight glimmering through various windows. He sees a tendril of smoke and notices Ezra standing outside, but doesn’t go and join him. Instead, he continues wandering through the shifting morning light. The light pine floorboards creak under his socked footsteps. This place is peaceful. The sound of laughter carries from the beachside, the slow sloshing of the tide against the sand. A man’s shout. A child crying. More laughter, raucous. All the chaos seems so far away.
Ezra comes inside. The sunlight filters through the screen door, prisms through the glass and casts a kaleidoscope of shadows on every surface. It lights up the dust that fuzzes the air, it lights up the cigarette pinched between Ezra’s fingers. Ezra stands in silence and watches Asher, sunlight cratering his features and making him appear glossy and disjointed. Asher picks a bright green pear out of the fruit bowl on the table and takes a bite.
“We should go out there later,” says Ezra. “It’s nice. Save unpacking for tomorrow. We could have a fire or something.”
the chapter ends when Asher and Ezra sit on the beach at night and make a fire and then they both fall asleep :) guys this scene is so wholesome it is painful (also i realized its kind of illegal to make fires on the beach but once again, vibes over logic. we have to pick our priorities here)
Ezra fiddles with his lighter and it takes three tries before a flume of light appears at the end of the match and he hovers it over the driftwood. Before long, the fire flickers dully, and then grows to the size of a campfire. Its shadow ambers on the sand, and Asher huddles on his blanket, as close to the fire as possible to be cupped in a nova of warmth. Ezra sits close, half on his blanket and half on Asher’s. Sunset drips over the water. Ezra doesn’t smoke like Asher expects him to, but stares into the fire, eyes still flickering. It seems like they’ve been flickering all day. His mouth hangs open slightly, like he’s in a trance. Asher places a hand on his shoulder and he blinks and looks away.
(TW: arson, death) also this is the scene where ezra tells asher about his pyromania and that when he was 16 he burned down his childhood home and his sister died in the fire, which is why he's been able to restrain his urges to set things on fire since then. also is it just me or is arson extremely aesthetic for no reason
Sparks settle in the light of his eyes and for a moment Asher almost thinks he can see the memories behind his eyes, the burning building, the screams of his sister, her pallid, scorched face after her body was found. Asher wonders if they found her body or if it was burned beyond recognition. He wonders if her remnants were buried or pre-cremated and if Ezra could ever bear to look at her face again. If he can even bear to imagine it.
near the end of the chapter, aka some night fire imagery to satisfy the weird verb obsession we all seem to share for some reason
The fire crackles loudly and sparks drizzle through the dark sky. The waning moon gilds white against the blackness, wispy clouds fleecing it in half. Glimmering shadows drift around them like smoke, settling on Asher and Ezra’s bodies and dappling the sand in ovals of pale light.
CHAPTER 12: FALSE ADVICE
working title. aha a parker chapter. i think the problem with parker's chapters is that they're usually kind of meandering, and i have yet to give her a more interesting, substantial plotline. this chapter follows her having lunch with gabriel, a man who offers to help her adjust to the city after leaving the cult, but she ends up leaving because he's kind of an asshole. aka a pointless chapter feat. parker's first time riding in a car! not many excerpts from this chapter but i like this one from the end:
Parker lets the glass door chink shut behind her and bows her head against the rain. It’s just a drizzle now, but feels like a drizzle of glass, slashing against the back of her head and clinging to her hair. Moonlight slices the street into fragments, and she hops over the potholes that riddle the sidewalk, occasionally stepping in one and soaking her shoe. She should have thought of this, should have brought an umbrella, but the day was so warm and prospects so bright that it didn’t cross her mind. In this city, bright prospects always fade before the end of the day. In this city, she always needs an umbrella. In this city. In this city. The city’s name slips her mind and she doesn’t try to remember it.
STILLNESS
a parker vignette where she remembers her friend from the cult, alice, who she misses. she's happy that she isn't there anymore, but sad about how the city is kind of just as bad just in a different way. basically the usual angsty parker thoughts.
CHAPTER 13: GARDEN HANDS
ezra goes back to the apartment to get the rest of their stuff and asher makes a new friend who ends up helping him with the garden behind the house which is really overgrown! her name is nathalie (who some people might remember from the wip intro but probably not) and she is the most wholesome character ever and i love nice people
garden description (yeah i wrote this in november that's how behind i am in writing updates sue me <3)
The garden is lush and overgrown, marigolds bobbing in the back, daisies and dandelions taking up most of the front. Tiki torches tilt in the soil, half buried and sputtering dimly. A weeping willow shades half the garden, which Asher assumes is the reason for its wilting. Dewy sunlight sifts through the branches. A maple tips above Asher’s head, helicopter seeds pinwheeling onto his shoulders and sticking in his hair.
more garden things
Nathalie teaches Asher to clench his hand around the base of the weed, twist it back and forth slightly, ease it out of the soil by the roots. Soon, his fingernails are flecked with mud and his fingers greened with foliage. Nathalie works beside him, chatting about things he doesn’t care about but tries to – the way the wind twists against their backs, the rich smell of the mud, a white butterfly that settles like a ghost on the edge of a maple leaf. After a while, he begins to see what she sees, he sees why she loves it here—the colours, the textures, the shapes and flavours and scents—he wonders how he lived for a month in a stuffy apartment without knowing there were places like this in the city. That it’s not all bad. That there are pockets of life and solitude hidden even in the most artificial, overwhelming places.
ezra's return that evening:
Nathalie leaves around three o’clock, and hours later Ezra returns blued in twilight. His car sputters to a stop on the sandy driveway, and he climbs out. Fireflies glitter around him, in the treetops, flickering in front of the windows. They sail across the sky like shooting stars.
THE WORLD WILL END
ah yes my one of my favourite vignettes in the entire book. im going to put the entire thing even though it's really long because honestly i think it kind of slaps
Light is all you see for miles. Light glisters off the rear-view mirrors of cars, light pinpricks the sky every night, light sheds fluorescent from TV screens and colours in your eyes. Light is all you know. You think of the world as a repeating of itself, as a sphere of light and shadow, as something that crawls with life and even the darkness is made of light here, even the darkness is blinding and binding and burning. You think of the world as a place swarming with insects, polluters; flooded with objects and spirits and everything in between. You don’t know if it should be called chaos or calmness, to know that this is how it is and this is how it will always be. Light is all you see for miles. Light radiates from your own irises and makes the landscape bounce and sway. Don’t be fooled by the illusion. Nothing is changing. You don’t know why but you take comfort in the fact that even this planet won’t last forever, one day it will implode or burst into flame or plummet into a black hole, one day the lights will blink out and strand everything in silence. You don’t know how to explain that you want it to be over so you don’t have to think anymore, so you can forget the past and not worry about the future. You want to see what happens after you die, if it’s like they said it is or something better or something worse or nothing at all. You want to see the sun burn out, you want to feel it’s fire coil from the sky and melt you into ash. You want to exit in a way that won’t make you look helpless. You want to witness the end of everything in a way that you would witness the death of an old enemy. You want the sun to sputter out and you want to feel it when it does. You wonder how many times this has happened before – is this the first world to eat itself, is this the first sun to die? Is this the trial run or the fifth round? Is any of this really unfamiliar? Is any of this worth repeating? Is any of this worth saving? Light is all you see for miles and you think that if it was dark at least you’d be able to sleep.
CHAPTER 14: UNTITLED
yet another untitled chapter how on brand. its also another kind of pointless parker chapter which is unfinished because i got bored!!
a sunset:
Afternoon decays into evening, light spanning the horizon and shadows staining the apartment floor.
i seriously cant stop writing weather/light/shadow descriptions. it's becoming a problem. whenever im stuck i just change the weather in the scene which works great except now ested is set in a city where the weather changes every five minutes. send help.
there aren't any other excerpts for this one because it needs a lot of editing and will probably be very different when im done with it.
NYCTOPHOBIA
another phobia definition. an extreme fear of the dark.
EZRA
so. this is a recent development but i decided that i'm going to sprinkle in occasional ezra chapters, which are narrated in first person from ezra's pov! this was a random idea that popped in my brain and i ran with it and i think its one of the best decisions ive made. also now this book has parts in third person, second person and first person, which is more complicated than it was supposed to be but it makes sense for the project so im going with it. im going to sprinkle in more ezra chapters earlier in the book but this is the first one i've written! its interesting writing from his pov because he's probably my favourite character i've ever created.
I don’t know how long the power will be out but the darkness is intoxicating. The way it lingers in the air, presses against my eyes, is infinitely close and infinitely far away. Everything blends together, every noise is indistinguishable, distant, jarring. I sit down in the faded blue armchair by the fireplace, which is dead. It would be the best source of light, but I avoid lighting fires as much as I can help it.
not the greatest excerpt but i like some things about it so yeah.
CHAPTER 15: PARALLELS
finally, the moment we've all been waiting for. asher and ezra are in a park and they meet parker! asher and parker recognize each other from the cult obviously and its extremely awkward :) love that for them :)
ezra and asher leaving the house early in the morning:
They shuffle out the door into the pink flush of dawn. The ocean glitters and sloshes quietly against the sand, tide expanding and receding. The sand is pale and studded with forgotten things—plastic shovels, crushed bottles of sunscreen, lost coins rusting in the sun. Ezra and Asher climb into Ezra’s car and Ezra plugs the keys into the ignition.
parker and asher talk and exchange phone numbers and then leave.
her voice sifts through her teeth, almost too quiet to distinguish from the noise of the wind and the birds and the pockets of speech and laughter that firework all around them. Familiarities crop up in places Asher wasn’t expecting to remember – the dimples in her cheeks when she smiles, the way one eye moves slightly slower than the other, the nervous twitch of her left arm. Things he never thought he gathered about her that still slipped in somehow.
and that's all for now! if you read through this entire update i love you and im sorry it was an entire fucking novel length all on its own.
