TAYLOR SWIFT || THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT (2024)

Ok, vamos lá. Eu tratarei o THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT e o THE ANTHOLOGY como dois álbuns distintos durante essas avaliações.

Para começar, todo mundo sabe que eu gosto da forma como a Taylor Swift aborda o storytelling dentro de suas músicas, acho que isso não é novidade pra ninguém, e uma coisa que me pegou no TTPD é que o storytelling ficou MUITO em segundo plano. Não estou dizendo que ele não está lá, mas o trabalho em cima dele é tão raso que faz com que as histórias - ponto principal do trabalho da Taylor Swift - fiquem em segundo plano. Pra piorar, temos o Jack Antonoff fazendo SEI LÁ O QUE dentro da produção, porque música boa ele não quis fazer. Os instrumentais são fracos e não seguram nem um pouco a falta das histórias que não foram bem trabalhadas.

Dito isso, eu preciso assumir que esse review está saindo algumas semanas depois do lançamento do álbum. Fiquei zoado de gripe por umas semanas, o que me deu bastante tempo de absorver melhor as músicas e pude perceber como várias delas cresceram em mim desde a primeira vez que as escutei. Faixas como "Fortnight", "Down Bad", "But Daddy I Love Him", "Florida!!!" e "loml" ganharam MUITO espaço dentro de mim, mesmo ainda achando algumas bem fracas num geral. Como um admirador do trabalho da TS, principalmente no que se diz respeito às letras, foi bem decepcionante ver como o seu ponto mais forte foi deixado de lado nesse projeto. Essas músicas que citei, por exemplo, tem muito espaço para crescer, mas a querida e/ou seus produtores decidiram seguir por um caminho onde o raso pareceu suficiente. Pra mim, não foi.

É, em minha singela opinião, um dos trabalhos mais fracos da carreira da Taylor Swift, se não O seu trabalho mais fraco. Não vou nem citar o trecho PODREEEEEE que ela escreveu em "The Tortured Poets Department" sobre o Charlie Puth e o golden retriever tatuado. Sério, eu quis desaprender inglês no momento em que li isso, na moral.

Ainda assim, é impossível dizer que não é um álbum relacionável. Todo mundo que se relacionou com alguém na vida consegue perceber que muitas de nossas dúvidas são trazidas nas músicas do TTPD, e isso a Taylor Swift sabe fazer muito bem. Nós, gays românticas que acreditamos num amor puro e genuíno, passamos MAL ouvindo algumas dessas belas canções…

O destaque do álbum pra mim são os feats. Como é GOSTOSO ouvir o Post Malone cantando algo mais calminho. Gosto muito dele e foi incrível ver como a voz dele e a da Taylor se encaixaram tão bem, algo realmente inesperado pra mim. Digo o mesmo, inclusive, de "Florida!!!". Que Florence é a encarnação de Deus na terra todo mundo já sabe, mas o quanto essa mulher agregou na música não tá escrito. Por um momento, inclusive, você até se esquece que a música é da Taylor Swift, porque a Florence rouba todo o protagonismo pra ela com uma maestria que poucos conseguiriam.

No fim, o TTPD parece algo feito às pressas. Taylor Swift precisa descansar, precisa maturar melhor seus sentimentos e deixar que sua mente se desocupe um pouco para que as coisas fluam de forma orgânica. Admiro e respeito seu trabalho e carreira, mas realmente espero que depois dessa chuva de críticas negativas ela possa respirar e tirar um tempo maior até seu próximo projeto, pois, até como fã tá sendo bem exaustivo de acompanhar tanta coisa seguida.

So this post is a series of quotes by Eric Kripke about Bela Talbot and why she didn’t quite work out as planned from The Official Companion book for season 3.

I’ve said before I personally don’t actually agree that Bela was all that badly done, though I would not be surprised if my having watched the early seasons binge-style rather than live impacted somewhat on my feelings.   Something with a week to sink in between episodes undeniably has more impact, after all.

The thing that really strikes me about what Kripke has to say, though?  Is how much thought and care was put into figuring it out what was up when they realized something wasn’t quite hitting with the audience the way the writers wanted.  Rather than, you know, just shoving what was not working in the audience’s faces harder.  (It’s cool, we say it’s cool, so obviously it’s cool, just LIKE IT, DAMMIT!!!)

The thing that stands out most above all?  How clearly Kripke understood what it truly meant for Sam and Dean to be the center of the show when it came to adding other characters.  I’m just gonna leave this particular part here for absolutely no reason at all *cough*buy a clue Dabb*cough*:

“People watch the show for Sam and Dean, so a character that makes them feel like idiots is not a character that people are going to warm up to.”

A venty long ass post that y'all can ignore and that I'll probably delete later

Bleh I dunno where to talk about this so I'm just gonna make a long ass personal post that y'all can ignore if ya want. I mean I guess I could message my counsellor on BetterHelp but I dunno if there's anything she can say that will help me feel better on this particular matter (we're working on a separate matter rn)

So the whole being so open and accepting about my general queerness (see: being a polyam pan demi genderfluid poc) is a fairly new thing for me (especially the genderfluid thing).

I mean, I've never denied being polyam and pan - but I've also never been *proud* of it. Mostly cuz I grew up in a predominantly Christian community, and then after that, predominantly a straight white male community. So it's not like I had someone to talk about any of it with.

And now that I'm have more friends who are in the Pride community, I'm learning just how problematic most of my old thought processes are. Because queer topics were just never brought up in conversations when I was growing up, unless it was to gossip about someone in the community who was "*gasp* not straight" or "*scandalized whisper* she says she's a man now" and I now no longer feel comfortable or safe with my old friends who I've known since I was 9 years old who've been there for me when I was dealing with the abuse from my ex and other stupid shit that's gone down in my life so far.

Or with all but one of the datemates that I had from before I realized I was nonbinary (which was only a couple years ago). Only one of them has been actually cool about all this. The rest all just get uncomfortable talking about it and are trying the whole ignore-it-and-we-won't-have-to-deal-with-it method. Which is, needless to say not working, because lately I've found that I just don't feel comfortable being physically intimate (other than kissing and cuddles) with anyone - which makes the dynamics very weird now because pre-realization I was a very sexual and sensual person. And now I'm wondering how much of my relationship with these peeps was just sex and that makes me sad.

And I just feel so much lonelier than I did before, and I don't know how to go about trying to fix that because I'm so much older than the local groups that would fit my questioning and ignorant but wanting to learn state, and the groups that are around my age group are more focused on people who are more established and confident in their identity and I wouldn't want to derail that when I'm still figuring things out.

Honestly I feel a little better than I did when I was first realizing my nonbinary-ness, and I feel like I kind of have a better idea of where to look for information and I've been looking at the history of the Pride community and I'm hoping that that will help me.

Any who that was my venty vent rant thing about all this. Feel free to ignore. I just needed to get this off my chest and didn't know where to do it.
