Ben & Jerry’s has announced they’ve created a permanent flavor to celebrate the achievements of former NFL player Colin Kaepernick. ‘Colin Kaepernick’s Change the Whirled’ is a vegan caramel ice cream, as Kaepernick is vegan, with fudge chips, Graham cracker swirls, and chocolate cookie swirls. Ben & Jerry’s announced that all proceeds from the sales of the new flavor will go right to Know Your Rights Camp, Kapernick’s organization aimed at empowering and educating Black and brown youths across the country. The ice cream company’s founders, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, have remained outspoken advocates for the Black Lives Matter movement and racial justice. They have created limited edition flavors in the past, raising money and awareness for various causes.
Kaepernick taking a knee during the national anthem before NFL games, a practice he began more than four years ago, prompted attacks from Pres. Trump and other conservatives who claimed he was disrespecting the flag and the military. The controversy eventually led to the end of Kaepernick's football career. Black Lives Matter leaders, activists, and athletes all said that kneeling was not to disrespect anyone who served, but rather as a way to send a message about police violence against Black Americans. Four years later, Kaepernick’s name and message continue to inspire calls for racial justice.

Ben and Jerry’s
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. Two boys that met in the 4th grade and would later go on to create one of the most successful ice cream franchises in the United States. They originally met in Gym class, according to Ben, when Jerry passed out, and the pair has been inseparable ever since. They finished their education to varying degrees, Jerry finishing pre-med at Oberlin College and Ben dropping out in 1972. Later, in 1978, they took a $5 ice cream making course together, and in May of that year, they opened their own ice cream shop in an old and converted gas station.
Ben and Jerry started their business with a few crucial goals in mind concerning both production and philosophy. Ben has mild anosmia, which is a lack of sense of smell or taste, so he relies heavily on what he calls “mouth feel”, or in other words, how cream or crunchy something is. That’s how they got the idea to develop the signature chunks in their ice creams that we know and love today. Jerry would develop a flavor and ice cream, and he would have Ben, who would be blindfolded,  test it to perfect the texture of each one. The goal was to make a flavor that was intense enough that Ben would be able to taste it.
The company also has a long standing history of standing up during social justice movements, donating to and collecting for countless charities, and intentionally making the most ethical and sustainable choices they feel they can. They believe in putting the power in the hands of the people, so in 1985 they established the Bend and Jerry Foundation. They commit 7.5% of their annual pre-tax profits to the foundation every year. The foundation allows employees to help enact change in their own communities and in the places they see that need it the most. Their mission statement has three parts, each of which marks an additional core value of the company. They aim to be economically sustainable and ethical, they aim to be socially involved and they often advocate for those in need, and they try to make really high quality ice cream with high quality ingredients.

How To Generate Great Business Ideas
Tumblr media
You might wonder, with countless people slaving daily to hit upon that 1 inspiration, that one true notion, that may give the world its own second Apple, Google, Coke, or Disney, just a few can achieve that feat. What makes them tick? It's the way that they see, perceive, and consume the world. Terrific business ideas are all around you - I am not kidding. You just need to have the eye to spot it and turn it into profitable business. In this article I give you tips on ways to find great business ideas.
Socialize
The human mind is a treasure trove of ideas, so why not tap this terrific source of inspiration and ideas. Combine social classes, attend seminars, discussion forums, and other social events and use the chance to start conversations, share your perspectives, and find out how the thought process of people functions. Meeting new people is a fantastic way to get your creative juices flowing and influencing the mind to think otherwise. This method isn't restricted to professional parties alone. A visit to the museum, park, or picnic with friends can do wonders for your cognitive ability.
Innovate from an Current Idea
Why invent when you're able to innovate. Have a preexisting concept or product and make it simpler and more efficient. Look around you, there are thousands of products and services around, if they do not meet your high standards work on these and provide something better. That is what Jerry Greenfield and Ben Cohen did. Both of these ice cream zealots were of the view that present brands aren't good enough. Consequently, they began their own, hugely popular, firm Ben & Jerry's Homemade Holdings Inc, making abundant and tasty ice creams.
There's only a tremendous quantity of ideas already on the table, you simply need to apply your mind and adapt it to suit the changing trends and expectations.
Hear It from the Horse's Mouth
There's not any better way to make new thoughts than by interacting with the people concerned. A great case in point: Kevin Brooks, a triathlete, had a problem to contend with. His friends and family members who came to his races found it impossible to spot Kevin among tens of thousands of participants. Kevin created a solution to this issue, yet to convert this solution into a profitable business idea, he had to make sure his fellow racers also confront this issue. He spoke to countless triathlete participants and realized that this was a widespread issue.
Similarly, if your field of interest is educational software, consider sending a questionnaire to parents to understand their issues, interests, and needs. Better yet you can directly speak to them. Individuals will be more forthcoming if they're approached in person than sending polls.
Business Pain Points Notebook
The major aim of any business is to solve problems, either by providing a service or product. That is what successful businesses do. They identify issues faced by their target market and find a solution. These business pain points or client issues are everywhere, and they could catch your attention anytime. To record these sudden bursts of thoughts keep a Pain Points Notebook to write down issues which are all around you. You may review the publication regularly and develop ideas to resolve them. To begin with, you'll receive loads of bad ideas, but not quit. Practice hard and pretty soon you will land a gem.
See and read the Internet
Reading books is a fantastic way to stimulate thinking and generate new ideas. If you are not an avid reader, start slow; spend six hours each week on reading books that interest you. Follow this program for 6 months; I promise you'll find loads of stuff that will rouse your thinking machines.
Another interesting way to search new ideas is by internet surfing. Begin with guru Google, search phrases such as'what's the most recent trend' or'what's new' or use the'I'm feeling lucky' button to navigate your topic of interest. Become a part of Facebook communities which are related to Business, Branding, and Entrepreneurship. In Twitter, look up for hash tags in niche areas that interest you, observe what is being discussed there, learn from others, and share your thoughts with other people.
Business Ideas Make Good Business
Ideas would be the genesis of all things, seen and unseen. In precisely the exact same way, business ideas are the genesis of all things business, service and merchandise.
All things in this world started with an idea. There's nothing, absolutely nothing, that didn't spawn from an idea. Look around you and be aware of everything you see. If you're in an office, you may see a desk, a computer, a bookshelf, wood flooring, a lamp, a few wall texture, a fan...
You might be on your backyard. You may see a fence, a pool, some trees, some shrubs, a pond, a road...
Consider everything you feel. The air, the warmth, the trendy, the gravitational pull, the soft fur of a cat...
All things were created or made from the origin of an idea. For the thought had to be there for the action of making to start. As a burn follows heat or a drop results from gravitation, the occurrence of all products or actions come forth from thoughts.
All are there because of a notion in the mind of somebody, somewhere, thought. God"thought" of the created universe before He left it. Humankind"believes" of goods before they make them. Consider anything in all of human experience which has reality and you'll find that the presence thereof resulted from a notion.
The dictionary defines an thought for a thought or goal or purpose, a belief or purpose of reason... resulting in a potential course of action. Notice that activity is part of idea. Both abide together.
No idea has significance outside of action. To put it differently, to only think of an idea can't be qualified unless there's action to follow. In business, this theory finds perfect illustration.
Business thoughts lead to business realities.
We find that those who ask questions, who seek the"why" in all things, life and business, become the innovators as well as the movers and shakers of the world.
Because they think.
For any present business to be successful and to grow, the people behind it should think of business thoughts for a means of life. For any new business to discover a place in the world, the people behind it should think about business ideas for a means of life. Simply copying status quo will not do it. Or at least do it well. To succeed, to be cutting edge and powerful and powerful, all innovators need to think. And they have to think with intent, with purpose, with ingenuity.
This notion may seem a little esoteric, somewhat abstract, but I guarantee you it isn't. This idea is very, very fundamental, for without it little can be accomplished. The strategy for constructing anything of value (yes and it certainly applies to business in general) rests upon the ability of the entrepreneur to think and act upon business ideas in a meaningful manner.
As a business entrepreneur, to be successful you must proceed the start to discover what this"business" thing is all about, and you'll always find it starts with business ideas, produced in the thoughts of advanced people on a path to create and build something of value.

Vivos Therapeutics and Candid Announce Strategic Collaboration to Deliver A Comprehensive Sleep Apnea and Orthodontic Treatment Solution
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo., Oct. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivos Therapeutics, Inc. ("Vivos" or "the Company") (NASDAQ: VVOS), a medical technology company focused on developing and commercializing innovative diagnostic and treatment modalities for patients suffering from mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring, and Candid Care Co. ("Candid"), a digital platform for oral healthcare, today announced a new collaboration that will seek to provide patients with a comprehensive, whole-mouth solution to diagnose and treat OSA in adult patients and provide orthodontic treatment from the same provider network.
Tumblr media
Vivos and Candid will join forces to explore new research and development opportunities for device development
At the core of this collaboration, Vivos and Candid will market each company's products and areas of expertise to deliver a comprehensive sleep and oral health solution to patients in the United States and Canada. The focus of the collaboration will be Candid's CandidPro clear aligner for straightening teeth and the Vivos System for treating OSA. The two companies will also share educational resources, training, and key opinion leaders to bridge the gap between airway health and orthodontic therapy.
"By teaming with Candid, we are aiming to provide patients with access not only to our highly effective Vivos System, but also simultaneous access to CandidPro's novel orthodontic treatment. We believe the Vivos-Candid collaboration will provide for the first solution that seamlessly integrates sleep and orthodontic therapy to create better patient outcomes for treating OSA and enhance overall health and wellness across the board." said Kirk Huntsman, Vivos Chairman and CEO. "We are hopeful that this joint effort will increase market penetration and accelerate revenue growth for both companies as we each attract and expand our respective North American dental and healthcare networks."
Additionally, under the terms of the agreement, Vivos and Candid will join forces to explore new research and development opportunities for device development and other alliances related to orthodontics, OSA, and snoring. Candid will also conduct specialized training sessions at the Vivos Institute, the Company's new state-of-the-art international training center in Denver, Colorado, as well as semi-annual seminars for both dentists and medical doctors to provide additional learning opportunities.  The parties will act on a non-exclusive basis, although during the term of the agreement, Candid's aligners will become the official  clear aligner of Vivos and Vivos' oral devices and proprietary protocols will become the official sleep apnea therapy program of Candid.
"Candid was built on a foundation of clinical excellence and has always put patient health first. Since launching Candid in 2017, my co-founders and I have strived to shine a light on the correlation between teeth alignment, oral health, and chronic illnesses, like obstructive sleep apnea. Vivos Therapeutics and Candid are where airway and sleep, oral health, and orthodontic therapy come together for the first time," added Nick Greenfield, Candid Co-Founder and CEO. "By combining Vivos' therapeutic protocol for OSA and its VIP doctor network with Candid's treatment methodology and CandidPro network, together we look forward to offering a full-service solution for patients suffering from OSA."
"As someone who focuses his practice on combining sleep-disordered breathing, orthodontics and comprehensive dentistry, I know how important it is to treat all oral health conditions as part of one comprehensive solution," concluded Dr. Ben Miraglia, DDS, Chief Clinical Consultant of Airway Health Solutions, Vivos Provider and recognized thought leader in sleep-disordered breathing, clear aligner therapy and craniofacial development. "The Vivos-Candid alliance is a true win-win for patients who are looking to improve their sleep, oral health and confidence all at the same time."

Global Flora Conservatory at Wellesley College

Design: Kennedy & Violich Architecture
Location: Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA
Global Flora Conservatory
The Global Flora Conservatory, an internationally renowned botanical collection at Wellesley College, has been selected as the 2021 Architizer A+ Awards Jury Winner for Architecture + New Technology. The project was designed by the American architecture firm of Kennedy & Violich Architecture, Ltd. (KVA Matx) in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team at Wellesley College led by Kristina Jones, Professor of Botany and Director of the Botanic Gardens, and Cathy Summa, a Professor of Geoscience and Director of the Wellesley College Science Center.
The Global Flora project reimagines the “stand-alone” typology of the greenhouse as an interlinked and synergistic set of Wet and Dry biomes that are heated and cooled using renewable resources. The design integrates a curved building form that follows the east-west sun path and engages the hillside topography of the Wellesley Campus.
The iconic Durant Camellia tree, over 140 years old, is exhibited in a transparent pavilion linked with the new facility. The new Global Flora is one of the first public conservatories in North America that is clad with a transparent ETFE building skin that enables the direct visual comparison and study of plant form across biomes, advancing public education and scientific research on plant adaptation and the ecology of climate change.
Kristina Jones, Ph.D., states, “Global Flora builds on the rich history of botanical education and research at Wellesley College established in the 1920s by Dr. Margaret Ferguson, who advocated for interdisciplinary botanical education as a Center for the College’s intellectual life. The new space will be an amazing platform for student engagement with nature and with the systems thinking that underpins progress in sustainability.”
The architecture integrates innovative passive and active sustainable systems to meet the Net Zero Water criteria of the Living Building Challenge, the most rigorous contemporary criteria for measuring sustainable design. The elegant, curved form of the Global Flora Conservatory follows the east-west arc of the sun to maximize solar heat gain in winter which is captured through the thermal mass of a wall. In summer, the architecture’s environmentally responsive ETFE skin allows the biomes to be cooled entirely through natural ventilation.
“The Global Flora project is the first contemporary Conservatory that is designed in vertical section,” said architect Sheila Kennedy, FAIA, a Principal of KVA Matx. “The need to accommodate different tree heights produces a dynamic and varying interior space which works together with the configured ground of the site’s topography. This offers diverse spatial experiences of plant form that are slowly revealed as people move through the biomes.”
Public education and scientific research in the Global Flora project are enhanced by an Interactive Sensor Platform integrated into the Conservatory design that provides real-time air, water, soil, and energy data, expanding knowledge of natural and architectural systems and public access to the collection for on-site and online users around the world.
The Global Flora Project has also won the prestigious Lafarge Holcim Design Award and has been selected as Building of the Week by World-Architects. Completed in 2020, the project was built by Turner Construction and supported by the generosity of Wellesley College Trustee Mary White.

13 Family-Owned Businesses That Went Global
Tumblr media
When most people start a small family business, they dont realize just how far they can actually take it. Usually, these businesses are kept within the community and kept as a small family hustle. Just because you’re starting a mom-and-pop business though, it doesn’t mean you have to think small.
Some of the world’s biggest brands and retail giants started just like that. With a great product and ambitious goals, it’s completely possible to take your family-owned business to the world. Many of the businesses that have achieved this have still managed to keep things run by the family too.
Let’s take a look at some of the biggest family-owned businesses that went global, going from a small business to a world-leading brand.
Ben & Jerrys
Tumblr media
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield started a small ice cream business out of a gas station in Vermont. This was just a classic family-run ice cream shop, but Ben and Jerry had big ambitions. Their idea was simple and their product was fantastic, which lead to Ben & Jerry's becoming the world’s most famous name in ice cream.
Ben and Jerry kept the business in their families between 1978 and 2000, until the company was eventually acquired by Unilever. With locations all over the globe and easily recognizable, iconic branding, this is one local family business that went far beyond their simple gas station start.
Walmart
Tumblr media
Walmart started out in Arkansas in 1950 under the initial name Walton’s 5 & 10. Sam Walton, who started the business, had a clear vision for a retail model that kept prices low while still focusing on the consumer. Fast forward a few years, and Walmart became the biggest retailer in the world.
Even though Walmart has been going strong for so many years, it remains a family-owned and publicly traded business. Sam Waltons heirs own more than 50% of Walmart, and they have maintained Sam’s vision throughout their global expansion. Today, Walmart operates around 10500 stores, with over 2.3 million employees worldwide. A pretty big feat for a family-run business of such humble beginnings.
Dell
Tumblr media
In 1984, Michael Dell started making computers in his college dorm room. He soon saw the future potential of his business, dropped out of school, and built up one of the biggest tech companies the world has seen.
As his business took off, Dell computers soon made their way all around the globe. Michael Dell’s original vision of creating a more affordable computing solution that kept a high level of customer service clearly worked. Although Dell merged with EMC in 2016, the Dell family still holds a 76% share of the business.
Nike
Tumblr media
This global giant may be a publicly-traded company, but it is still effectively controlled by the original founder’s family. Nike was started in 1964, and co-founder Phil Knight has been the face of the brand ever since. He and his son, Travis Knight, control more than 97% of outstanding class A shares.
While Phil Knight has stepped down from his role as chairman, Travis continues to keep the family legacy going strong. As one of the world’s most recognizable and iconic brands, it’s amazing that Nike has remained a family-owned operation.
The Body Shop
Tumblr media
In 1976, a husband and wife duo, Gordon and Anita Roddick started The Body Shop. Their original vision was to create a beauty and wellness brand that didn’t support animal testing and supported fair trade instead. This was a pretty unique idea at the time.
The Body Shop’s concept gained momentum, with the business spreading across the globe at a rapid rate. Although the company was bought by L’Oreal, The Body Shop was created as a small family business, and it was run by the family for many years.
Panda Express
Tumblr media
Panda Express was started by a husband and wife team, Andrew and Peggy Cherng. With the help of Andrews’s father, their first store was opened in California in 1973. Andrew and Peggy started the store after college without any actual culinary education behind them. However, they managed to build one of the most successful fast-casual chain restaurants in the world.
Panda Express turned away franchising opportunities many times in order to maintain their family-run vision. The business is still keeping the family tradition alive, with two of the founders’ daughters working senior positions in the company.
Tumblr media
Whole Foods Market
1980 saw the first Whole Foods Market, then named SaferWay, open in Austin texas. The original store was a small health food shop started by John Mackey and Renee Lawson. The shop was a family-run affair, started with an initial investment provided by friends and family.
In 2017, Whole Foods was acquired by Amazon for billions of dollars. The health food retail giant has opened up hundreds of stores across the US, Canada, and the UK. Whole Foods Market is a great example of a simple family business that managed to snowball into a massive global operation.
Samsung
Tumblr media
Samsung was founded in 1938 in South Korea, and it has grown into one of the world’s most prolific global companies. Samsung is an international leader in computer memory chips and various electronic devices. The company has even expanded into other divisions, such as securities, life insurance, and trading.
Even though Samsung has grown into such a massive global brand, the company still remains South Korea’s largest family conglomerate. The founding Lee family control about 22% of the company, and have maintained a major family share of the company since its inception.
Aldi
Tumblr media
Here’s another supermarket that started with humble beginnings and became a huge global supermarket chain. Aldi was started in 1946 by two brothers, Karl, and Theo Albrecht. They started out with a corner thrift store and turned it into an affordable supermarket. Their vision has stayed the same over all these years, something that has maintained their position as one of the worlds most popular international supermarkets.
One of the most inspiring things about Aldi is that it has stayed a 100% family-owned business since its inception. Theo’s two sons inherited the family business and took it over after their father passed away.
Patagonia
Tumblr media
Patagonia is a globally recognized brand known for its environmentalism and high-quality products. The business was started in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard, who sold rock climbing and alpine clothing. Through rapid growth over the years, Patagonia is now a leading outdoor brand around the world.
Chouinard’s business may have risen from a small family enterprise to an international industry leader, but Patagonia has stayed true to its mission. The brand continues to focus its efforts to help the planet.
Patagonia is also a very family-focused business. They pay a great deal of attention to their on-site childcare facilities and try to run the company as though employees are family members.
Berkshire Hathaway
Warren Buffet, the highly successful investor, has grown his investment firm from a small startup to one of the world’s biggest public companies. Although Berkshire Hathaway is such a major public company, Buffet maintains voting control. His bulk share ownership is also set to pass onto his family, keeping Berkshire Hathaway under the Buffet family name.
The conglomerate owns many different companies, such as Coca-Cola, American Express, Apple, and Dairy Queen.
Ford
Tumblr media
We’ve all heard the story of Henry Ford, and how he started his Ford Motor Company back in 1903 in Michigan. Well, the Ford family still holds a 40% stake in the business and is still actively involved in its operations. This is certainly one of the longest-running and most successful family-owned businesses.
Various Ford family members hold top executive positions in the company, and it doesn’t seem like the proud Ford family name will step away from the world-famous car company any time soon.
Koch Industries
Koch Industries was founded in 1940 by Fred Koch. Today it is run by his two sons, David, and Charles Koch. This family-owned business is one of the largest privately-owned companies in the world. Koch Industries covers various different sectors and owns a range of iconic products.
The business was started after Fred Koch developed a new type of crude oil refining process. Over the years, this family-run business has spread itself into further industries, and it maintains its privately-held status.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts
Starting a family business is a popular idea for many. It might be seen as a fun way to explore a hobby or even a side hustle. With the right idea, dedication, and marketing plan, any small family business has the potential to grow into a global sensation.
All of the businesses listed above have maintained a strong family focus and were built up by these individuals. Today, these companies are well known all around the world.
If you were looking for inspiration for your own family business, then the examples listed above should show you just how much potential your business has for growth. Whether you’re taking over a thrift store or selling ice cream from a gas station, there is always an unlimited opportunity for your success.

Prisoners Of Ourselves
Tumblr media
When war is declared, people know what to expect: death, destruction, and a society descending into the chaos. Shortages follow–food and medical supplies, clean water, power…  Next, come the stories of loved ones lost. The wounds of war never heal but leave a residue of hatred time won’t assuage. Many of us in the United States sense a coming crisis, one that could lead to war.  The signs are everywhere and frightening because some of our leaders choose to use democracy as a weapon against us, leaders who have sworn to uphold the law yet defy court orders. Shall we have free and fair elections? Our president presumes to decide that question, depending on whether his wins or losses. If the vote goes against him, he does not commit to a peaceful transition and hints that war will come.   Similar to Germany before World Ward 11,  those who feel oppressed are looking to escape the advancing bedlam. Some African Americans admit they are making plans to leave the country.  That’s bad news for America as those who make the transition are likely to be educated and with enough financial wherewithal to do so.  Their cohorts they leave behind, more vulnerable and condemned to hide in the shadows of curtained windows while Proud Boys march in the streets. James Baldwin took the path of self-exile at age 24, having described his life in the United States as one of “watching and outwitting white people.” (“Is It Time To Get Lost?” by Karl Taro Greenfield, Town&Country, October 2020, pg. 88.) Even so, he never cut ties with his homeland and admitted he was uncomfortable with his life as a “transatlantic commuter.” Having lived as an expert, I know the pull of home. Wherever I wandered, I was always an American.  Heritage can’t be shed like a suit of old clothes. The same was true for the African Americans I met in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).  Most of them were on their way back to places like Georgia, Texas, or Alabama.  Their African experiences hadn’t turned out as planned.  Retracing their roots hadn’t brought them home.  In Africa, they faced a different prejudice: hostility to their money, to their expectations, and to their presumption they were better informed.    If a society exists without prejudice, I’ve yet to discover it. Flee to Canada and it exists.  Or France, or most countries in the world.  As far as I can tell, the human race has always been at war with itself.  Other species turn against their kind.  The difference for humans is that we’ve weaponized our hostilities and are capable of endangering life as we know it on this planet. Making sense of our violent impulses should be our prime directive. Unfortunately, the times aren’t right for reflection.  We are too busy battling a pandemic and attempting to salvage what’s left of our tattered social structures. Bombs may not be falling, but the guns are here. Faced with an apocalypse whom can we look to for guidance? To politicians? To the healers? To those who would have us pray? They’ve done their work and yet, we find ourselves standing at the edge of a black hole. In this case, even science is impotent. It can describe the universe with accuracy, but it is unable to tell us how to live peacefully in it.  Ordinary people will have to lead where others have failed. Their sanity must be strong enough to drag the demented with them, those who have grown deaf, dumb, and blind to the corruption that threatens our democracy. They point to a good economy. What matters is our values. Whether ordinary people succeed or not in their mission, the final reckoning will be left to the artists.  Making sense of human recklessness has ben their charge since Homer and carried forward through time, creating masterworks like Erich Maria Remarque‘s World War 1 epic, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Pablo Picasso’s painting, Guernica— a lacerating portrait of what seemed to have become World War 11’s banal atrocities. Yes, the arts can be relied upon to cast an unforgiving eye upon our species, to examine the wreckage of our existence like forensic investigators.  Yet, I grow old. I begin to fear their discerning eyes will never explain why our species, though inventive, has never found the means to escape our destructive impulses.  Perhaps Nature requires the brutality within us, a fail-safe to end an experiment when it no longer entertains.

Jazzmobile Launches a yearly Residency at Minton’s Playhouse
Aug 31, 2019
Tumblr media
Jazzmobile Inc. and Harlem Jazz Enterprises have entered into a new partnership to present live music at the iconic Minton’s Playhouse jazz club, 206 West 118thStreet, in Harlem. This open-ended residency will begin on Independence Day with pianist Nat Adderley, Jr. and will continue every Thursday evening with a world-class jazz band Timothy Greenfield, Jazzmobile’s Chairman of the Board, said, “We are excited for this opportunity to expand our programming year-round, something the Jazzmobile audience has been requesting for years. We’re looking forward to presenting Jazzmobile artists as well as introducing new talent as a part of this residency at one of the world’s most renowned jazz venues.” For Jazzmobile Director, Robin Bell-Stevens, this is “…a dream come true to be able to present great jazz artists in the same club where my father, a former Duke Ellington bassist, Dr. Aaron Bell, once performed.” One of the most important shrines in the history of jazz, Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem was the place where Bebop was born and where the foundations of modern jazz were established. Founded in 1938 by the saxophonist Henry Minton, the club became the setting for a revolution in jazz. Among the legends who graced the stage were Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Charlie Christian, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Billy Eckstine, Erroll Garner and more. After a fire, the club closed in 1974, but more than 30 years later, it reopened in 2006. Today, Minton’s remains the home of some of the world’s finest jazz. For reservations and more information, visit mintonsharlem.com.  Jazzmobile, is the oldest not-for-profit arts organization created just for jazz in the country. In 2019 Jazzmobile is presenting SUMMERFEST, New York City’s longest running Jazz Festival, all summer long. Founded in 1964 by National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Dr. Billy Taylor and philanthropist Ms. Daphne Arnstein with NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath, Jazzmobile has a mission to present, preserve, promote, and propagate America’s classical jazz through quality music education and performance programs. From salty chips to sweet, chocolatey goodness, everyone’s got their favorite junk food stashed away for a rainy day…or sunny day..or any day. So here are the Top 10 Iconic Junk Foods. Junk food is unhealthful food that is high in calories from sugar or fat, with little dietary fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, or other important forms of nutritional value. You know junk food may be unhealthy and addictive, but it's damned delicious too. If you enjoyed this food review video list of the top 10 iconic junk foods in America and around the world. Comment: #junkfoods #junkfood #food TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 Iconic Junk Foods 0:22 Cheese Puffs 1:59 Donuts 3:27 Twinkies 4:33 Pop-Tarts 6:07 Oreos 7:41 Kraft Mac and Cheese 8:44 Pepperoni Pizza 10:11 McDonald’s French Fries 11:13 Cheez Whiz 12:19 Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream SUMMARIES: - Ah, cheese puffs, making our fingers turn orange since the 1930s. - Often glazed or topped with sugar or colorful sprinkles and filled with exciting things like jam, cream, or custard, donuts are iconic. - Often criticized for being ridiculously unhealthy, Twinkies, the American snack cake, nay, the American dream, is described as “golden sponge cake with creamy filling”. - Shaped like a rectangle, Pop-Tarts have a sugary, fruity filling sealed inside two layers of a thin crust. - A sandwich cookie consisting of two chocolate wafers and a delectable soft creme filling, Oreos are on this list for a reason. - While there are other brands that have tried to compete with it, such as Annie’s or Quinoa Mac and Cheese, nothing compares to a solid bowl of warm, yummy Kraft Mac & Cheese. - Perfectly circular, golden crust, topped with beautiful slices of pepperoni and melted cheese, who doesn’t love a good pepperoni pizza? - Everyone and anyone who has had a taste of McDonald’s French Fries, probably can’t get enough. - Sold by Kraft Foods, food scientists invented this spreadable cheese product with a long shelf life in 1953. And so Cheez Whiz was born. - Founded by childhood friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield in 1978, the first Ben and Jerry’s ice cream shop was in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont. 📺 Top 10 Junk Foods That are Actually GOOD for You https://youtu.be/4XfA46zTqEk 📺 Top 10 Most Popular Junk Foods That AMERICA LOVES to Eat!!! https://youtu.be/RG19UIFb5Vk ➡️ SUBSCRIBE to BabbleTop! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX--mGSg0UwDjl7MDL8H5Jg?sub_confirmation=1 🥳 JOIN and become a BabbleTop member! https://www.youtube.com/babbletop/join 👕 Check out our MERCH! https://ift.tt/2xcFumO 🔥 Our Most Popular VIDEOS! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOvb3ZRIwh0&list=UUX--mGSg0UwDjl7MDL8H5Jg All clips used for fair use commentary, criticism, and educational purposes. What Yoga Trapezes, Laser Lights, Kettlebells, Mini-Meditation & Ketogenic Doughnuts Have To Do With Building A Nutrition Supplements Empire.
Angelo Keely is COO and Co-founder of Kion as well as a true renaissance man of many talents – including beatboxing, music, art, and more. He's also a wizard at creating a healthy and robust company culture and is building one of the most impressive, high-quality nutrition and supplement formulation companies on the face of the planet.
From his near-death experience on an LSD trip to his impressive daily routine, we delve into his life and valuable experience on this podcast.
Who is Angelo Keely?
Angelo is a uniquely human-focused entrepreneur and business leader in health and wellness, personal development, and education. Having studied religious studies, philosophy, and music as an undergraduate, Angelo's approach to business development is based on historical and cultural knowledge of human behavior. He also brings a unique perspective to communication and culture as he is fluent in multiple languages and has several years of work experience in Central America, France, and India.
Angelo co-founded the French satellite campus of Saint Edward’s University in partnership with Apple Europe. There he developed and managed high-tech language learning and creative training programs. Apple then asked Angelo to relocate to India to become the lead mentor trainer for creative software for South Asia. In addition to his work with Apple, Angelo led the international department of a top-20 business school in India and successfully negotiated international dual-degree programs in multiple languages.
Upon returning to the United States, Angelo founded the US branch of a Swedish software development firm, developed a creative incubator for artists, and led a multi-million dollar behavioral healthcare company. Through his work in the behavioral health industry, Angelo refined his leadership approach to incorporate awareness of group dynamics, distinct personalities motivational differences, and mindfulness.
As the co-founder and COO of Kion, Angelo is responsible for turning the vision of Kion into a reality. He sets short-term and long-term strategy, develops strategic business relationships, guides company culture, and manages the leadership team to meet established goals and metrics.
In addition to his success in business, Angelo has a rich history as a musician and yogi. He was a professional beatboxer, rapper, and drummer in his youth – even being featured on national promotions with Kinkos. He now composes and performs original music, singing and playing all the instruments himself. Radical Metabolism: How To Cleanse Your Gallbladder, Increase Your Metabolism, Burn More Fat Without Exercise & Much More!
She first joined me on podcast episode #29: “How Many Critters Are Living In YOUR Gut, Making You Fat, Tired, Lazy, Bloated and Sick?”
Now, she's back on the show. Ann came to my house in Spokane, WA to talk about her new, amazing book “Radical Metabolism: A Powerful New Plan to Blast Fat and Reignite Your Energy in Just 21 Days“. This new book reveals the secrets to reviving a sluggish over-40 metabolism – secrets that work even faster if you're in your 20s and 30s, or you suffer from liver, gallbladder or thyroid issues.
You'll discover which “forbidden fats,” forgotten flavors, and fat-busting beverages you can eat and drink in order to increase your metabolism, protect against autoimmunity, address gallbladder issues, type II diabetes, and other devastating health problems.
The Radical Metabolism program consists of:
-a 4-day Radical Intensive Cleanse designed to rest your digestive tract and detoxify your body -21-Day Radical Reboot where you'll learn exactly what combinations of foods to eat for results you can feel and see -a Maintenance Plan for a healthy life
A Columbia University graduate, Ann Louise Gittleman is often called “The First Lady of Nutrition”. She is a nutritionist and internationally recognized as a pioneer in dietary, environmental, and women's health issues. She is an award-winning New York Times bestselling author of over 30 books on health and nutrition including diet, detox, women's health, men's health, perimenopause, menopause, beauty and the environment.
As one of the world's foremost experts in functional and integrative medicine she holds an M.S. in Nutrition Education from Columbia University, has the title of Certified Nutrition Specialist (C.N.S.) from the American College of Nutrition and a Ph.D. in Holistic Nutrition. Ann Louise has also served as the Chief Nutritionist of Pediatric Clinic at Bellevue Hospital and is the former Director of Nutrition at the Pritikin Longevity Center in Santa Monica, CA. She has won numerous awards, including The American Medical Writers Association Award for Excellence.
In 2016 Ann was presented with the Humanitarian Award from the Cancer Control Society. She currently sits on the Advisory Board for the International Institute for Building-Biology & Ecology, the Nutritional Therapy Association, Inc. and Clear Passage, Inc.
During our discussion, you'll discover:
-Why the gallbladder is such a crucial component of the Radical Metabolism program…8:40
Women in the U.S. are FFF: Fat, Forty and Fatigued.
Gallbladder removal is one of the most common procedures in this country.
It's not a “throw away” organ; we need to do everything we can to keep it.
The “unholy alliance” between the gallbladder and the thyroid.
If people do not have free-flowing bile (which they don't if they don't have a gallbladder) they can't convert successfully convert T4 into T3.
Because the thyroid is so intimately connected to metabolism…
People with sluggish bile are 7 times more likely to suffer from hyperthyroidism.
Ben struggled with decreased thyroid activity while training for triathlons.
People who do keto or paleo diets with high intake of fat are at risk; you need to be able to digest the fat and essential fatty acids.
-Ann's thoughts on why the gallbladder and bile issues are so common among American women…13:00
Lack of choline.
Study: 500 mg of choline 3x a day for 6 weeks will decongest a fatty liver.
Choline is a lipotropic nutrient.
We don't eat foods with natural lecithin; stigma surrounding soy products.
Lack of bitter herbs in the diet.
Natural sources of choline:
Lecithin
Eggs (if you're not allergic)
Walnuts
Sunflower lecithin supplement
Bitter herbs Ann recommends: Grapefruit Diet (very popular in the 70's, with a resurgence in the 90's)
Grapefruit extract influences mitochondria.
Bitter melon extract.
Ben's favorite cocktail: Bitter herbs, on the rocks, with a splash of gin. “Ben and Jitters”
-How do we test for gallbladder function?…20:43
GGT
High liver enzymes
If light colored stool, dizziness, hearing problems all part of gallbladder meridian.
Glutathione doesn't affect gallbladder.
A bitter and resentful personality indicates gallbladder issues.  Anger is associated with the liver; resentment is associated with the gallbladder.
-Is Ann a fan of any of the cleanses out there that increase bile levels?…23:00
No. Because of congested bile, they can get stuck in the gallbladder duct and create serious problems.
The use of choline and bitters, then following Radical Metabolism…
-What is the “correct” way to do a coffee enema?…25:25
Depends on the individual.
Ensure the coffee is organic.
Keep it inside you for 20 minutes; lay on your left side.
Hazel Parcells: The grand dame of health.
Blackstrap molasses.
-The balance of omega 3 and omega 6 fats and why there's such a thing as “too much fish oil”…27:45
We need a 4:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fats.
Watch out for bad omega 6 fats. Parent oils.
You'll get more omega 6 fats from parent oils.
Toasted sesame oil – Has lots of Vitamin T.
What is Vitamin T?
“Sixes are Sexy.”
-Ann's thoughts on Udo's Oil…35:37
Uses unrefined, raw sunflower oil.
Uses proper antioxidants.
-The role of Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in the formation of brown fat tissue…37:15
It actually “activates” the tissue.
Evening primrose oil;
GLA helps people to lose weight without watching their calories or exercising.
-Why Ann is a fan of essential amino acids…39:15
We need more protein, not less.
Has more to do with metabolic rate than the gallbladder.
The right kind of coffee can prevent you from losing lean muscle.
It's a way to get more concentrated amounts of proteins.
-The best way to test for toxicity in your body…42:00
Non-invasive: hair tests; tissue analysis.
Urine provocation test can be very hard on the system.
Lots of toxicity in cooking tools and utensils.
-Why Ann would rather have a poisonous serpent in her kitchen than aluminum foil…45:48
-Ann's 4-day and 21-day intensive cleanses…47:37
Lots of watercress soup, which contains cancer-fighting phytonutrients. (Buy it at Trader Joe's.) Can also eat watercress as the green in a salad, as opposed to kale.
Juices that are low-glycemic. No pulp.
Not uncommon to lose 8-10 pounds during the cleanse. Water weight.
You start with the 4-day, then take a week of maintenance and then the 21-day.
Why A2 is far preferable to A1 (found in most milks).
