Hello ❤️ If you have time I would love a blurb about Hotch and Morgan cuddles and feeling secure together it's my current brain rot thought.
Oh, yes. I do! I'm a sucker for the soft. I started things for this a number of times but all of them got so convoluted and long and away from the point of the cuddle - this one might have too, but the vibe feels right. I haven't posted a fic directly to tumblr in a while but I will do it now. I hope you like it! I wrote this in thirty minutes so if it feels fast and loose...it is. hahahaa
Words: 1.6k (that's not a blurb but I frequently fail at blurbs)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's nearly 1 am, and Hotch can't remember the last time he saw a Walmart at this time of night. He's avoided the store like the plague during regular waking hours, it's too bright and too loud, he can't focus. But when it's the only place open in a ten mile radius and he needs to get the snacks for Jack's preschool class on his way home from work…it's what he's got to work with.
That, or he could go to the gas station at the end of his block and spend a fortune on single serving nightmare food and be ostracized from snack parent duties entirely. The idea is enticing.
He buys a bag of tiny oranges and a bag of pretzels, bland and simple, exactly what he would want if he were a preschooler who wanted to eat quickly and get back to finger painting or playing outside. With his arms full of snacks, he makes his way toward the front of the store to checkout, catching only minor notes from the songs wafting through the store.
It's quiet in here. There are a couple of employees gathered around the one open cash register at the front and a few placed throughout the store restocking shelves. He's not the only shopper inside but he never ran into anyone else. It was almost serene and as he waits for the cashier to count back his change, he thinks this might be the best time to shop. He might have to do it more often.
It's the first time since Haley died that being in a grocery store hasn't resulted in a major meltdown on either he or Jack's part. Jack is sleeping, Jessica is staying over, and he's got all the time in the world to listen to the quiet.
He's always been partial to quiet, but it's been especially important to him in the years since the explosion in New York. Loud noises still hurt though he's gotten fairly good at concealing that fact, his carefully practiced neutral features don't give anything away anymore. He shivers when the cold hits him and with his one free hand, he reaches for the zipper on his jacket and pulls it up to his chin, stopping the worst of the wind from whipping against the exposed skin of his neck.
His car is one of about ten in the parking lot, the huge lot that takes up a full city block. It's almost post-apocalyptic, the way the streetlamps dot the asphalt, one of them flickers wildly above an employee in a blue vest trying desperately to keep his cigarette lit in the wind.
He sits in his car and waits while it warms up, rubbing his hands together like he's sitting in front of a fire. His circulation has always been bad, but since Foyet's attack it's been almost nonexistent. His hands are always cold, fingers stiff and painful. He'd gone to the doctor convinced they were going to tell him he had arthritis, that he was going to lose his ability to shoot his gun sooner rather than later, but all they said was that his circulation was terrible and gave him some exercises to do that would help increase blood flow temporarily. The pain and numbness would be persistent, they said, but do those exercises and you'll alleviate some of it.
The exercises make him feel silly. Jack sometimes copies them without knowing what he's doing - he'll be standing at the sink working his way through dishes and stop to do them because he's afraid he'll drop a glass and make a big mess in front of his son, and when he looks over Jack is playing with his legos and doing the same thing with his hands. Jack copies him a lot and that scares him, he's watching everything he does and says so carefully he's giving himself stomach aches making sure that Jack doesn't take on his worst traits.
"Hello?" he says, answering his phone. He knows who it is without looking.
"You ever coming home?" Derek asks impatiently and Hotch can hear the echo of his own hallway. Derek is waiting outside of his apartment. Derek calls his apartment home. He's still not quite over that revelation, but he hasn't made a big deal out of it.
"Had to stop at Walmart, I'm on snack duty for Jack's school tomorrow morning."
"You do realize we have to be up in less than six hours…"
"I'm on my way. Five minutes."
"The clock starts now."
Hotch throws his car into drive and heads toward the driveway a little faster than he should but there's something so freeing about speeding through an empty parking lot. It reminds him of learning to drive with his uncle because his father was rotting in a bed being eaten alive by cancer by the time he was old enough to get behind a wheel. His uncle was always a bit of a wildcard, not unlike Sean, and encouraged Hotch to put the pedal to the metal when he first started out. "It'll take away all the mystery of what it feels like to really go fast," he'd said and Hotch thought it did work, sort of, but once the mystery was gone he was simply left with the overwhelming love for it. He'd always loved to drive fast, to feel the speed in the wheels beneath him. To float dangerous corners. It's come in handy during high-speed chases on plenty of occasions.
He obeys the speed limit going home, though. Doesn't blow any stop signs or red lights. His little bag of groceries stays firmly in place on the passenger seat and he's putting his car in park at the six minute mark. He could have made it in three if he wasn't being so good about rules.
"You're late," Derek says, leaning against the wall beside his door. Hotch stops beside him, a little too close, and waits patiently for the kiss. Derek always kisses him first. Not because he has to, but because he likes to. He's competitive to a fault. The kiss happens quick, Derek smiling against Hotch's lips while Hotch unlocks the door to his apartment.
Everything is dark, only one small lamp left on to light their way through the living room to the kitchen. Doesn't matter, they know it all by feel alone. Hotch still won't step where Foyet attacked him, he walks around it like a kid skipping the cracks in the sidewalk, and Derek doesn't say a word. He never walked down the sidewalk that his father was killed on again, wouldn't even consider it. He gets it. Some places just hold onto a feeling that you don't want any part of.
They stop in the kitchen and in the dark, they hold each other for a moment. They lean heavily against one another, chest to chest, faces buried in necks, releasing the day. Derek had been hours away doing an in-service with Reid while Hotch worked in DC with Strauss. They hadn't seen each other all day, and this one moment in the darkened kitchen was all it took to make it all melt away. Hotch clung to Derek's waist, numb tingling fingers still not recovered from the night chill digging into the stiff leather of Derek's jacket.
Neither of them spoke. They could say things like I love you or I missed you but that was so heavily implied in the way they just stood there that it would have felt almost wrong to say it. From there they moved in unison toward Hotch's bedroom, undressing quickly, Derek pulling pajamas from the drawer Hotch set aside for him in his own dresser. At his house, he slept naked, but Jack had a tendency to creep into their bed in the darkest hours of the night and he'd only had to be startled awake by that terror once before he learned to deal with the discomfort in sleeping with clothes on. Hotch had offered just to take Jack back to his own bed, but Derek kind of liked when the kid came in, he liked the sound of his tiny snores and the way he curled up in a tiny ball between them like they were the safest place in the world.
But before Jack made his way in, it was Hotch that curled up against him. Derek runs hot and Hotch can't resist absorbing as much of that heat as he can. He slides beneath the blankets and pushes himself flat against Derek's side, burying his icy fingers in the warmth of Derek who always made a surprised noise so involuntarily at the intrusion. He knew it was coming but there was no way to prepare for it. Hotch sleeps in socks, much to Derek's chagrin, but at least that means his cold feet won't be a problem. Just those hands.
Hotch can't remember how or when this really started, and he can't remember ever having any real conversations about what they were or where it was going, no five year plans or relationship goals, it was just safety. It was just love. It didn't need a name or future plans, it didn't need any constraints at all. It was simply something, a beacon in a storm, a lighthouse burning bright. The knowledge that this something was always waiting at the end of a long day, no explanation necessary, had gotten them both through more hard days than either of them could ever articulate.
Whatever it was, whatever anyone might call it, didn't matter. It was simply the feeling of home in another person, and that was all either of them dared to dream of.

Let me tell you about Donut, my most massive and longest living rat. It’s been a little bit more than a year since he finally died after outliving two of his healthy, normal sized brothers by more than six months.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His favorite hobbies were falling, biting, eating, and lying down to avoid exercise.
Most rats have enough cautiousness and common sense to avoid jumping off of tall objects until they’ve determined there’s a safe landing below. Not Donut! Two times he fully jumped off of my shoulder and fell 5 feet to the ground, luckily without breaking bones. He also fell off of various tall objects inside the cage an innumerable amount of times, but fortunately those were shorter drops onto soft bedding.
Most other rats will gently nibble and explore you with their teeth, and will lay off if you squeak at them to let them know it’s painful. Not Donut! He would only bite fingers, and only if you were reaching towards him in a confined space, but he was out for blood and broke skin every attempt. I was pretty good at avoiding being bitten, but he managed to surprise me a couple times. I have a phobia of blood and got dizzy enough to have to lie down flat, so it’s technically accurate to say that he took down a full grown human by himself.
We discovered he had arthritis when he was 18 months old, and attempted to put him on a diet, but it did not work. I assume he had some sort of genetic situation going on, because my other two rats who weren’t related to him had the same diet as him but were normal sized.
When I let rats have free roam time, most of them will spend at least 10 minutes walking around, even when they’re older or neutered. Not Donut! He would avoid exercise during free roam time in order to try and lie directly on top of his best friend, Fribble, in the exact same spot every day. (Pictured below)
Tumblr media
At Donut’s heaviest weight, he was almost half a pound (190g) bigger than Fribble, so you can imagine that this was not physically comfortable for Fribble, and he would have to wiggle back out from under him in order to avoid suffocation.
Donut ended up living to be 2 years and 8 months old, while his brothers lived 2 years and 2 months, and 2 years. He only got taken down because a respiratory infection and a cancerous tumor ganged up on him.

You’ll live on forever in my heart, chubby man

Ice Mummies Ranked by How Well You Could Take Them in a Fight
I decided to use my academic interest in non-anthropogenic mummies—specifically ice mummies—to definitely rank each special case study in ice mummy-ology (cryomumiology?) based on the chance that you, my beloved reader, could take them in a fight. This exercise is based on the imagined scenario that each mummy has been brought back to tenuous life or animation and has overcome their causes of death to fight you back.
Notes: I haven't included any images of the mummies on the basis that some of them are nightmare-inspiring. Please use caution when looking them up to size them up for your inevitable battle. Also, ice mummies in this definition include both mummies found in glacial or permafrost conditions, but also mummies preserved by extreme cold.
(Special shout-out to @hollowtones for making posts about strong as fuck ice mummies and inspiring this whole thought exercise in the first place.)
Ötzi the Iceman - 5/10
You may possibly have a height advantage on the Ur-Iceman, Ötzi—he was only 5'3" (1.6m). However, Ötzi has a few advantages on you. Do you have razor-sharp lithic tools? If you do, do you know how to use them as well as a Chalcolithic human? Not only that, but Ötzi's got physical prowess and hunting instincts. Judging by his several dozen tattoos, he can also handle pain pretty damn well. You have a solid 50/50 shot at taking him down, but he's not going to go quietly.
Suggested tactic: Lure him in with the sweet, sweet promise of delicious cheeses and butters. He's lactose intolerant, so when he's doubled over and suffering, take him out right then and there. Aim for the joints since he's starting to show signs of arthritis. It won't be a clean fight, but mummy fights rarely are.
John Torrington - 3/10
You might have a height advantage against this whippersnapper, as he's roughly 5'4" (1.6 m again). However, he's young (19 or 20), relatively healthy aside from absolutely trashed lungs, and he's from Manchester. He's been spoiling for a fight since birth, and since he's a stoker, he's no stranger to physical labor. He'll also throw you off with his pretty boy looks—but make no mistake, he'll fuck you up.
Suggested tactic: Wait for him to wear himself out until he's a wheezing mess, then use that low center of gravity and knock him down. Or grab him by that Jacob Marley chin tie of his and fight dirty.
John Hartnell - 9/10
For once, he might have a height advantage on you, as this 25-year-old Kent-born sailor is a whopping 5'11" (1.8m). However, this sallow, willowy man was born with glass bones and paper skin, so it won't be hard to use his inherent weaknesses against him. He's fighting at a disadvantage with a sprained ankle, compressed lumbar vertebrae, necrotic right wrist bone, and lungs so shot to hell that it's a wonder he still has them (granted, his lungs are somewhere vaguely in the region of his stomach after a messy autopsy). It's more than likely you'll win, but the emotional toll of fighting this ailing man might be too much to handle.
Suggested tactic: Aim for one of his multitude of weak spots (ankle, shoulder, neck, chest, or messy Y-incision), or insult his mother. There's also a strong chance he's missing his left eye, so work that blind spot to your advantage. He's also not wearing pants, so make fun of him until he's emotionally-devastated.
William Braine - 2/10
Virtually no chance of victory against this guy. A 32-year-old Royal Marine, he's had plenty of experience training for this exact moment, and he's not going to let you win. He's also a towering Victorian height of 6'0" (1.82 m). Braine's had it rough in life and death and is also pantsless, but this Somerset native isn't letting that get to him.
Suggested tactic: He has a malformed spine from an advanced case of tuberculosis, so use that to your advantage. Other than that, just hope and pray for the best.
Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi - 1/10
It's not likely you'll actually be fighting Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi since he's since been cremated by his descendants, but on the freak chance he comes back for a fight, you're fucked. Coming in at 5'9" (1.75 m) and in his prime at 18 years old, Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi has a few good advantages on you. If you're fighting in his territory in Tatshenshini-Alsek Park in British Columbia, he can probably use the local terrain to his advantage, and did I mention he has a knife? He's also been on a protein-heavy diet of marine meat and caribou, so he's physically ready to put you in the ground instead of him.
Suggested tactic: Run for your life.
Siberian Ice Maiden/Altai Lady/Princess of Ukok - 3/10
Not very likely. She's young, she's in fairly good shape, and she's badass. This tattooed 25 to 30-year-old Pazyryk lady stands in at 5'4" (1.6m) but her presence is about twice that height. She's well-regarded in her culture, so even though she's dealing with some chronic pain, she has a whole team of people more than likely at her beck and call to do you in while she does something more important than dealing with you. She also has the advantage of grave goods, and might use her headdress and mirror to distract you long enough to kick your ass. Also, the presence of antlers in her group's grave material means she has access to plenty of pointy objects.
Suggested tactic: She was buried with cannabis, so maybe wait for her to get stoned before trying anything.
Children of Llullaillaco - 6/10
You can take these Andean kids on individually, sure—but would you? The youngest is only four or five, you monster. To make it a fair fight, take on the trio while we all make fun of you for fighting a group of kids. Granted, your chances of winning go down significantly if all three are present, as teeny-tiny El niño and La niña del rayo will distract you while teenage La doncella shoves you off the side of the mountain. Also, La niña del rayo was struck by lightning after death, so there's probably nothing you can do that can phase her.
Suggested tactic: Do you really need me to give you tactics to fight some kids? I hope they win, tbh.
George Mallory - 2/10
The Crown Prince of the Everest Ice Mummies, George won't let you take his title so easily. It took a mountain to bring this man down, and even then, he still kind of won. George has ice picks and axes on hand, and judging by the shockingly enormous amount of photographs of this man parading around completely naked, he's in the best shape of his life. Now, granted, he's had some bones broken since his fall, but I doubt he's going to let that worry him, old chap. He also might hypnotize you with his aforementioned naked ass.
Suggested tactic: Do not look at the ass. The ass is the way to your destruction. Focus on his shattered bones and bruised ribs, or try to get him to fall off the mountain again.

Yesterday, i was at physical therapy, with a therapist I've been seeing about a year. My pain has been frustrating for her, because I'm in it constantly, and she doesnt really get that. I've tried to explain that PT can only help with my pain management, it will never go away completely. The focus has been on my knees because that's where I've developed severe osteoarthritis, and it has reduced how active i can be. But the pain has always been there, long before i developed arthritis.
Despite me doing exercises for it, despite getting injections in my knees of something that helps reduce pain, my right knee has been very painful for an extended period of time. My therapist suggested weight loss.
I've worked with many physical therapists and never has one suggested weight loss.
I said i would not be losing weight. She pushed back. I said i have struggled with an eating disorder most of my life and trying to lose weight would make that worse. She pushed again, assuring me that i could do it without triggering disordered eating. I asked what experience she had treating EDs. She said she learned about them in school. I said that wasn't good enough and i wasn't comfortable with her pushing back. She tried to explain that i just needed to excersize more. I continued to ask her to drop the subject and she continued to push until i said that i was going to leave if she didn't stop. She finally did. I finished my appointment, but i was steaming mad and i wanted to cry.
I fucking hate it when people are like, oh you just need to exercise more, not cut calories. For one thing, when you exercise it makes you hungry for more food, and if you don't eat, then that is cutting calories. For second, do you think that i, as a fat person, has never considered exercising to lose weight? Fucking christ. She recommended going for walks every day and i pointed out that i already do that and ive told her that many times. She just assumes that I'm lying or something. Because how can someone who exercises every day be fat?
I have an appointment scheduled for next week already and i haven't decided if I'm going. I really like the location of the office, but there's only one other therapist there and he watched the whole argument. I don't really want to see either of them ever again. Up until yesterday, she was the best physical therapist I'd ever had. The last place i went, the therapist gave me a lecture on how it wasnt fair for me to expect her to not misgender me (and i hadnt once corrected her).
I'm just so tired. I'm considering just wallowing in extreme pain and giving up on trying to manage it.

100% there are tasks i want to improve on. i used to be able to get up without my hands, now it’s 50/50 if i can do it or not. lunges i are also 50/50 if i can do them without support. stairs can be a huge struggle with my arthritis on bad days and id like to improve that. i play bass drum for a pipe and drum band and id like wearing the drum to be less painful in my back. i can carry a jug of water with one hand though, just not with grace lmao. luckily i almost never have shoulder pain, thank god. my hips hurt the most when i lift my legs high forwards, like how you put a leg up to tie a shoe. my knee isn’t a huge problem anymore, but if i walk on the treadmill for more than an hour it starts to ache. the tendons in my knee still aren’t the best/very strong so id like to avoid exercises that are high impact on the knee. if it helps i sprained my LCL on my left knee and dislocated my knee cap at the time of my injury.
thank you again so much <3
-🪻
Ok ok ok lemme think lemme ponder lemme work on it. (Dislocated knee twinsies) and ima be real for the first however long it will be physical therapy esc stuff and getting the body used to more/different/new movements

personal medical/weight-related bs below the cut
so late last year, my rheum referred me to weight management -- her suggestion, but i agreed -- and after having to reschedule my original appt because i was sick, i just saw him on tuesday and the appt was not at all what i was expecting (neutral).
as a background, i am currently the heaviest i've ever been (close to 280lbs) and it's def affecting how i feel and move and my weight has been creeping up and up over the last couple years, especially since 1) no longer working and 2) moving back in with my parents.
in the past, i've struggled tremendously with self-image when it comes to my weight. i carry my weight mostly in my belly and face and while those are still two areas that i don't love, i've come SO far compared to how i used to think about and view my body. do i wish i were thinner? yes, i still do. i have no desire to be "skinny," like i would genuinely be so happy to be below 200. i don't want to be a size 2 or anything like that. losing 75-100 lbs would be my ideal goal.
my lowest weight as an adult (at least that i can remember) what around the 180-190 range and that was when i was running a shoe department and putting on around 17k steps per day. but in the ten years since then, i have been diagnosed with a shit load of chronic illnesses and have become disabled (though i'm still waiting on the fucking government to approve my case) and between chronic pain, fatigue, and arfid-related dietary issues, i feel so incredibly stuck.
i was half-expecting to get put on some ozempic-type shit, but instead, the doctor asked me a lot of questions (and actually listened to my answers!!!), looked at my other health conditions, and basically the whole picture, and said flat-out that he would recommend bariatric surgery.
i have state insurance and to my utter fucking shock, at least in my state (wisconsin), weight loss medication is NOT covered, but bariatric surgery is. he does want to up my metformin (pcos) and said that will potentially help me lose around 10lbs, but even with diet and exercise, i'd probably lose a total of 20lbs. he said for the best results, both short- and long-term, surgery is the way to go.
i have a consultation with the bariatric surgeon in a week and i'm not entirely sure how to feel. first, the human body and anything medical scares the shit out of me and i have my fair share of medical trauma as well as GAD and panic disorder. because nothing is decided or set in stone, i'm not so much anxious as i am cautiously... curious? i guess? optimistic to a point, intrigued, but have tons of questions. i did verify with insurance that gastric bypass is covered 100% and the surgeon and hospital are covered and in-network and have been writing down questions for my upcoming appointment, but i just have so many different feelings.
i know there are MANY people much heavier than me, but i think it's hitting me that i am as big as i currently am and every time i see a picture of me that isn't my specific go-to selfie angle, i'm filled with self-loathing and a realization that i really am a lot bigger than i view myself. and i hate feeling that way because i dare you to find someone more body-positive than me when it comes to fat people. i fuckin love fat people. and i don't mean that in a fetish-y way lmao, like i'm clearly fat myself (and am v much attracted to heavier people/don't factor weight into my attraction of a person).
like ultimately, if this is a route i choose to go, it'll be for me and because i want to feel better and i know it would help some of my other health conditions and at least make moving easier, but it also feels like... a betrayal in some ways? like i do NOT believe that obesity automatically equals unhealthiness. most, if not all, of my own health problems have nothing to do with my weight. i don't have fibro and psoriatic arthritis and pcos because i'm fat. i would still have them if i was stick-thin. i don't buy into diet culture and all that shit. but i want to feel good and not hate what i see when i look in the mirror.
idk we'll see what happens when i meet with the surgeon (and both my parents are coming too -- both of whom are also overweight and have almost always been [i won the genetic lottery y'all]) and see what she has to say and what the answers to my questions are but like i said, cautiously optimistic for now but also pretty conflicted.
if you actually read this, kudos to you bc a bitch do be rambling, but i am open to hearing about others' experiences with bariatric surgery. i'm not looking for unsolicited medical advice, but am def willing to talk about it if you have personal experience with it!

How to Choose the Best Massage Gun for Your Needs
Benefits of Using a Massage Gun for Muscle Recovery
Introduction
In recent years, the fitness and wellness industry has witnessed a surge in the popularity of massage guns. These handheld devices have gained recognition for their remarkable ability to aid in muscle recovery and alleviate soreness. Athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and even those seeking relief from everyday aches and pains have turned to massage guns as a convenient and effective solution. In this article, we will explore the numerous benefits of using a massage gun for muscle recovery and overall well-being.
Understanding Muscle Recovery
Before delving into the advantages of massage guns, it's essential to comprehend the concept of muscle recovery. After intense physical activity or strenuous workouts, our muscles often experience micro-tears and inflammation. This is a natural part of the muscle-building process. However, to perform optimally and prevent injury, proper recovery is crucial.
Muscle recovery is a crucial aspect of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Whether you're an athlete striving for peak performance or someone who enjoys regular exercise, understanding how to aid your muscles in the recovery process is essential. One valuable tool that has gained significant attention in recent years for its role in muscle recovery is the massage gun.
Benefits of Using a Massage Gun
In the pursuit of physical fitness and overall well-being, recovery plays a pivotal role. Muscles, often subjected to rigorous workouts and daily activities, can experience soreness, stiffness, and fatigue. Fortunately, the evolution of recovery techniques has introduced an innovative tool into the fitness and wellness world: the massage gun. This article explores the numerous benefits of using a massage gun for muscle recovery and how it has become an indispensable asset for athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike.
Improved Blood Circulation
Massage guns work by delivering rapid percussive therapy to targeted muscle groups. This action helps increase blood flow to the treated areas, which is essential for muscle recovery. Improved circulation ensures that muscles receive the necessary nutrients and oxygen, expediting the healing process.
Reduction of Muscle Soreness
One of the primary reasons individuals turn to massage guns is to alleviate muscle soreness. The device's percussive movements effectively reduce muscle tension and stiffness, providing relief after intense workouts or strenuous activities.
Enhanced Range of Motion
Regular use of a massage gun can lead to improved flexibility and range of motion. By breaking down knots and adhesions in the muscles, these devices allow for better movement and reduce the risk of injuries.
Quick Recovery
Massage guns can significantly speed up the recovery process. With increased blood circulation and reduced muscle soreness, individuals can get back to their workouts or daily routines quicker, allowing for more consistent progress.
Pain Management
Aside from post-workout recovery, massage guns are also beneficial for managing chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. The deep tissue massage they provide can alleviate pain and discomfort.
Stress Reduction
The soothing sensation of a massage gun can help reduce stress and anxiety levels. This relaxation not only benefits muscle recovery but also contributes to overall mental well-being.
How to Use a Massage Gun Effectively
Massage guns have become a popular tool for muscle recovery and relaxation, but to reap their full benefits, it's crucial to know how to use them effectively. These percussive therapy devices offer a deep-tissue massage experience that can help alleviate muscle soreness, improve flexibility, and enhance overall well-being. In this guide, we'll explore the best practices for using a massage gun to achieve optimal results.
Choose the Right Attachment
Most massage guns come with a variety of attachment heads, each designed for specific purposes. Before you begin, select the attachment head that suits your needs:
Ball Attachment: Ideal for large muscle groups like the legs and back.
Flat Attachment: Suitable for all-around use and larger muscle groups.
Bullet Attachment: Targets specific trigger points or knots.
Fork Attachment: Designed for the neck and spine.
Air Cushion or Soft Attachment: Provides a gentler massage for sensitive areas.
Prepare Your Body
To maximize the effectiveness of the massage gun, it's essential to prepare your body:
Stay Hydrated: Drink water before and after your massage to stay hydrated.
Wear Comfortable Clothing: Wear loose or breathable clothing to allow easy access to the muscles you want to target.
Warm-Up: If possible, perform a light warm-up or stretching exercises to loosen up the muscles you plan to massage.
Proper Technique
Using the massage gun with the correct technique is crucial:
Start Slowly: Begin with the lowest speed setting and gradually increase it as your muscles become accustomed to the pressure.
Hold at the Right Angle: Maintain a 45-degree angle between the massage gun and the targeted muscle area.
Apply Pressure Gradually: Allow the massage gun's percussive motion to penetrate the muscle tissue rather than pressing too hard.
Conclusion

Hey, I totally understand you might not want to answer this so please don’t feel pressured to! But I was wondering how you found out you have fibromyalgia? Is it something you’ve known since you were a child, or did you recognise the symptoms later in life and go to a doctor? I’m asking because I think I might have some sort of condition, if not fibro then maybe some kind of arthritis. I get a lot of the symptoms, but I don’t know if it’s just a normal amount. I do get joint pain, and even though it gets worse sometimes, most of the time it’s not unbearable. And also other symptoms like fatigue and brain fog etc, but they could be linked to a lot of things in my life. Obviously I know you can’t diagnose me or anything over an ask, but do you have any advice on how to tell what level of pain is more than expected for someone without a condition? Like I said at the start, please don’t feel like you need to answer this, feel free to ignore/delete it.
Honestly other people who have it talking about it clued me in a lot. I really don’t know how long I’ve had it but it got really bad and unbearable for me after a pretty bad head injury I had last fall. That’s a big way it can get started theoretically (nobody really knows anything about this for sure) and hoooo boy did it for me. So I’ve really only been actively aware of this for I’d say 4ish months? When I think back though I’ve had most of these symptoms for years, like since college
So a lot of googling around and talking to the right people and doctors (though I still have to get my ass up to a specialist for a ✨formal✨ diagnosis despite being p much confirmed already but I’m like literally why I have doctor anxiety and half of doctors think it’s fake and there’s nothing to be done about it anyway rip, the medical system in this country isn’t uh the best for that kind of shit) bada bing bada boom there we go
Some tips maybe I guess
If you are always/often in pain that’s not normal. It seems obvious but I had to actually have someone tell me that after putting up with it for so long. Also if you have fibro/chronic pain you’re likely to have a higher pain tolerance than others, for clear reasons
If a doctor tells you you don’t have it then maybe you don’t but also so many of them like don’t believe in fibro so I’d always get a second opinion
Track/pay attention to symptoms and when/how they get better or worse. A lot of times fibro pain gets better with exercise so you can differentiate it from like. Injuries or being out of shape. Also for me I’m always gonna have more pain after eating a lot of sugar.
Also fibro pain often affects muscles vs joints and isn’t necessarily limited to like one body part. For me I have several places it likes to be and it kind of just moves around. Also there are some areas more commonly affected than others
A lot of info can be found by googling! Symptoms and treatment!
A lot of symptoms for me are just stuff I’ve learned to live with but I often have “normal” days just from paying attention to diet, exercise (cycling), and taking glucosamine daily. I also have some mobility aids for days I need them but the more I exercise the less often that is
Obviously doctors can suck, but it’s definitely useful to get an opinion if you have the option
I hope any of this random rambling is helpful!!

Leading a beautiful life doesn’t come without challenges. Our body goes through a lot of stress and grind in the process and there comes a stage when it needs more attention and care than ever before.

It is all about being aware of what Arthritis exactly is and taking precautions at the right time that could be the best beginning to arrive at a successful solution.
Understanding Arthritis?
Experts at United Hospital, a dedicated Orthopedic Centre in Bangalore focusing on Arthritis care, explain that Arthritis is a medical condition involving swelling and tenderness of one or more joints. It may worsen with age and is a prevalent cause of discomfort among senior citizens
Types of Arthritis
Arthritis can affect individuals of any age, but the elderly are more vulnerable.
Some of the common forms of Arthritis are:
Osteoarthritis - It is a condition that affects joints in your Hands, Knees, Hips and Spine.
Psoriatic Arthritis - This a condition that develops in people due to a very challenging skin disease called Psoriasis.
Reactive Arthritis – This causes joint pain and swelling triggered by an infection in prominent parts of your body — most often your intestines, genitals or urinary tract.
Rheumatoid Arthritis – This is a chronic inflammatory disorder which can affect more than just joints including premier organs like lungs, heart, eyes and blood vessels.
Some of the other conditions faced notably by the elderly include Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Symptoms of Arthritis
The most common signs and symptoms of arthritis involve the joints. Hence, it is important to seek an expert opinion if you observe one or more of the following symptoms:
Pain in the joints.
Stiffness felt in the joints.
Swelling observed in or around the joints.
Redness observed in the joints.
Difficulty in moving.
Treatment for Arthritis
Arthritis, if untreated, can be a really painful thing to handle. However, what really matters is the right type of medical attention at the right time and from the right source. Your treatment is based on how severe is your condition and can include:
Medications
Depending upon the type of Arthritis diagnosed, your medications may include:
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Creams and Ointments.
Steroids
Physical therapies and exercises.
Surgical Interventions
In case you do not get any relief from the above medications your doctor might recommend surgical interventions to bring you back to your routine lifestyles in quick time. Some of the types of surgeries performed include,
Joint Repairs
Joint Replacements
Joint fusions
Let’s say Goodbye to Arthritis forever and welcome a painless life. For many of us, life may begin at 40, but so does Arthritis! Hence, if you are wondering as to, “Which is the Best Orthopaedic Clinic near me to treat Arthritis”? feel free to connect with United Hospital.

Mistaken Identity
It had been something of a routine exercise for the boys. Every few months Master Splinter would have them draw one of their brothers names from a bowl and they would trade masks and weapons for the day or longer depending on how badly they'd been fighting with one another. Of course, it was occasionally rigged, but it always had been for the benefit of his sons, his beloved boys.
Such had not been the case of late. In fact the boys had been getting on remarkably well considering it had been the middle of winter and usually at this time of year they were beginning to get a little stir crazy as it was harder to go to the surface level with the snow. Being underground was also cold of course, but his brilliant Donatello had long been able to make each of them their own heat lamps and Ms. O'Neal in her kindness had gifted them each a heated blanket. She had even given one to Master Splinter. If she had noticed how it helped with his arthritis she was also kind enough not to mention it.
All in all, the boys had been doing well in their training and with one another, which was why Master Splinter had decided now was a good time to try the exercise again.
So that the boys could learn to see from their brothers' perspective not just in times of adversity, but also in times of peace and joy.
And so, rather than just engaging in sparing with each other's weapons Master Splinter had also encouraged them to try out each other's hobbies, music, and other recreational activities.
This had led Michaelangelo to the junk yard to scavenge for metal wiring and such to try out some of Raph's wire wrapping and other metal working skills. Which ultimately led this moment Master Splinter now found himself in. Knelt by his youngest child's bedside in the medbay.
It was more the cold than the concussion, Donatello assured him, that was the cause of Michaelangelo's persisting state of unconsciousness. That did not make the guilt easier to bear.
Master Splinted sighed softly and gently stroked one of the brown, splotchy bruises on Michaelangelo's head.
"Hey, Sensei," Michaelangelo murmured and nuzzled deeper into his pillow. "'S kinda cold. Raphy break the heater 'r somethin'?"
"No, my son," Master Splinter smiled to finally hear his son's voice.
"Sensei!" Michaelangelo shot up suddenly. He groaned at the wave of dizziness and nearly fell over, but Master Splinter was faster. He jumped forward and gently guided Michaelangelo back to his pillow.
"Easy, my son. You have a mild concussion."
"Sure I'm not dying? You're not usually the one babysitting."
Master Splinter smiled and rubbed Michaelangelo's shell. "No, little one, you are not dying, though you did give it a shot. I sent your brothers to rest and warm up."
"Oh. How'd I get a concussion?"
"You were ambushed by members of the Purple Dragon gang at the junk yard. They mistook you for your brother because you wore his mask and carried his sai."
"Ohh. Yup. That'd do it," Michaelangelo said, almost sagely. Master Splinter had to hold back a snicker.
"I am sorry, Michaelangelo-"
"What for?" He yawned. "You're not the one who jumped me."
"Had I not sent you to the junk yard dressed as your brother, perhaps this would not have happened."
"I dunno, Sensei, the Purple Dragon are kinda dumb. And mean. They'd probably mug a kindergartener for their lunch money. It's not your fault. I know how you and Leo can be though, so I forgive you."
Master Splinter smiled and kissed Michaelangelo on the temple. "Thank you, little one. Try to rest now. I will fetch one of the space heaters so you will be more comfortable."
"You're the best," Michaelangelo mumbled as he drifted off again.
---
"How ya feelin' twerp?" Raphael asked and rubbed Mikey's head as crouched next to his bed.
"That depends entirely on why you're here," Mikey teased back. "Master Splinter already apologized. It's not your fault either."
"Yeah, I know. They'd'a been happy to jump any of us. No matter what color we was wearin'. Case isn't so convinced though."
"Hey, Mikey," Casey greeted.
"Hm-mm. Nope, shut up," Mikey cut it.
Raph snickered. "Told ya so."
"Mike-"
"I don't wanna hear it. I'm too zonked out for the emotional-guilt-trippy stuff when it's literally not actually anyone's fault."
"You guys wouldn't be a target for the Dragons if it weren't for me!" Casey objected.
"Bruh. Have you not noticed that Hun has a massive Foot tattoo? Don't think you're so special, hermano, he definitely would'a been on our tails for that anyway. Not to mention it was the armored car that they stole that we stole back and made into the Battleshell. It's not your fault. That said, if you reeeaallly feel that bad about it, you can definitely bring me a snickers about it!"
Casey chuckled. "Maybe I ain't that special, but I actually can be smart sometimes." He held up a candy bar, drawing an excited gasp from Mikey.
"No way! Don't tell the others, but you are definitely my favorite brother right now."
"Hey, I'm still here, remember?" Raph teased and lightly kicked the cot Mikey was lying on.
"Oh, hey, Raph, when'd you get here?" Mikey answered cheerily.
"Brat."
Mikey giggled. "For real though, you guys gotta lighten up."
"We'll lighten up when you stop gettin' into trouble," Raph replied and rubbed Mikey's head.
"Get some rest, bud."

Does acupuncture work for back pain?
Tumblr media
Back pain is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including muscle strain, ligament injury, disc herniation, and arthritis. While there are many conventional treatments for back pain, such as medication, physical therapy, and surgery, many people also seek alternative therapies like acupuncture.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body. It is based on the belief that disruptions in the flow of energy, or qi, can lead to pain and illness. By inserting needles into specific acupoints, acupuncturists aim to restore the balance of qi and promote healing.
How does acupuncture work for back pain?
The exact mechanism of acupuncture is not fully understood, but it is thought to work by stimulating the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters that have pain-relieving effects. It may also modulate the activity of the central nervous system, which can influence pain processing and transmission.
Is acupuncture effective for back pain?
Numerous clinical studies have investigated the efficacy of acupuncture for back pain, with mixed but promising results. A 2018 meta-analysis of 39 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) found that acupuncture provided statistically significant pain relief compared to sham acupuncture or no treatment. The analysis also indicated that acupuncture was more effective than usual care interventions, such as medication or physical therapy.
Another RCT, published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2012, compared acupuncture, sham acupuncture, and conventional therapy (medication and exercise) for chronic low back pain. The results demonstrated that acupuncture provided superior pain relief and functional improvement compared to sham acupuncture and conventional therapy. Additionally, the benefits of acupuncture persisted even after the treatment was discontinued.
While these studies suggest that acupuncture may be effective for back pain, it is important to note that the placebo effect may play a role in its effectiveness. The use of sham acupuncture, which involves the insertion of needles into non-acupuncture points or using non-penetrating needles, helps to control for this effect. However, determining the true efficacy of acupuncture remains challenging due to the subjective nature of pain perception and the difficulties in conducting double-blind trials.
What are the potential benefits and considerations of acupuncture for back pain?
One of the advantages of acupuncture is its relatively low risk of adverse effects compared to pharmaceutical interventions or surgical procedures. Acupuncture is generally well-tolerated, with the most common side effects being minor bruising or bleeding at the needle insertion sites. It can be a suitable option for individuals who cannot tolerate or prefer to avoid medications.
Moreover, acupuncture treatments are often individualized, taking into account the unique characteristics and needs of each patient. Acupuncturists may assess factors such as the location, severity, and duration of the pain, as well as the patient’s overall health and constitution. This personalized approach can contribute to a more holistic and patient-centered treatment experience.
However, it is important to recognize that not all individuals may experience the same degree of pain relief from acupuncture. Factors such as the underlying cause of back pain, the chronicity of the condition, and individual variability can influence treatment outcomes. Additionally, the availability and quality of acupuncturists may vary, highlighting the importance of seeking trained and licensed practitioners.

Conclusion
Acupuncture appears to be a promising treatment option for back pain, offering potential benefits with relatively low risks. Clinical evidence suggests that acupuncture can provide significant pain relief and functional improvement, although further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms and optimize treatment protocols. As an alternative therapy, acupuncture should be considered as part of a comprehensive approach to managing back pain, in conjunction with conventional treatments, lifestyle modifications, and other interventions tailored to the individual’s needs.

Tw for talking about animal death under the cut
After only two years together and a slow decline, we had to make the call to help our dog Rosie pass last night when she became suddenly very ill. 😞
There is a lot to say about Rosie... we adopted her a few months after my childhood dog passed, and she was the first pet Jester and I picked out together (but being honest... it was mostly Jester's choice). Though she was a bit shocked at the shelter she was quiet and sweet and kept scratching us for pets, so we took her home.
We quickly realized she was not quiet and that she had severe emotional issues. She could hear but didn't respond to human speech, doors made her so anxious that she would yell and rip apart baby gates even if she had tons of space, and she lost a tooth during (failed) crate training. There were a lot of sleepless nights and a trip to a vet behavioralist when we decided to keep and work with her instead of rehome her. This year we realized she was likely far, far older than the vets estimated, given her beginning to lose walking in her back legs (something that can happen to elderly dogs, it happened to Jake at age 13-14 before he passed).
Getting her on anxiety meds/arthritis meds and keeping her out of crates significantly helped and for about a year she was as calm as she'd ever be, save for general anxiety, but no more late night barking. She even got used to seeing closed doors and stopped freaking out at every baby gate. Of course, then we had to deal with her anxious drinking water issue and her inability to learn how to tell us when she wanted out to pee. So we just took her out every 2-3 hours, and that generally worked with a combination of diapers and puppy pads.
She would wag her tail sometimes when she saw us, and when she was silly she'd roll around on her back but she never wanted to play. She didn't know how to be a dog. But still, when I had oatmeal on the weekend she'd sometimes come up to the couch and wag her tail, staring with her insane eyes, and then try to lick the bowl in plain sight if I put it on the table. That was the most "being a dog" she ever did, and I'm glad we were able to get her from "self destructive because she saw a baby gate on the stairs" to "naughty dog stealing oatmeal." Even if it was only for about a year.
Last night I stood her on the grass in the yard for some exercise because she never really enjoyed walks much. At dinner, she sat and shook paw the way I taught her (back when I thought she could not learn I was overjoyed she learned to do a few tricks) to get her favorite dessert, a quiche flavored dog treat. Hours later the slow decline elderly dogs get took a sharp downturn and it hit us like a train. It was immediate and got worse over a few hours.
I will spare details, but I believe it was either a stroke or a third bout of vestibular disease, but this time she was too much on the decline to come out of it alright. Even if she did we knew she would never fully recover (she didn't the first two times, always had a tilt, but happy). I believe we made the right decision. At 1am at an emergency vet we said goodbye and the anxiousness she'd carried with her for who knows how long melted away into rest and peace.
It feels good to talk about her life even in a ramble on a Tumblr post. We did the best we could to give this elderly, neurotic dog two golden years of retirement from whatever background she came from. And we may not have had a week to prepare and to cook her a big farewell dinner like Jake, but she had bacon and eggs and oatmeal and cheese for her adoption day party only a few months ago, so she at least got that. Even getting petted by so many people at the dog park, and they all gave her treats for her special day, and she was the happiest I'd seen her for a while.
We'll miss you Rosie Posie Daisy Doo. I'm glad you're not afraid and hurting anymore, and that we could be friends even if just for a little while.

For a start, in water, you feel almost weightless, and that means taking the strain off your joints and muscles.
