Dido - Thank You 1998

"Thank You" is a song written and performed by English singer-songwriter Dido. The song made its first appearance in 1998 on the soundtrack of the movie Sliding Doors (as did poll #28). It was later included on Dido's 1999 debut album No Angel, and was released as a single in September 2000. The same year, American rapper Eminem sampled the track for his hit single "Stan", which helped propel "Thank You" and No Angel to mainstream success.

Following the success of "Stan" in Australia and the UK, where it hit number one, No Angel was finally distributed in other markets outside North America in late 2000. No Angel rose to the top of the Australian albums chart on its sixth week, dethroning The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem. By 2003, No Angel had sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, and was the second best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK. As of 2015, No Angel was the 27th best-selling album in UK chart history. In 2019 it was listed the ninth best-selling album of the 21st century in the UK. It was also among ten albums nominated for the best British album of the previous 30 years by the Brit Awards in 2010, ultimately losing to (What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis.

"Thank You" peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and held that spot for three weeks, and became Dido's first and only top-10 single in the US. It was one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year, debuting in January and remaining on the chart until the end of September. It spent 40 weeks on the chart, and in November Billboard published that "Thank You" finished as the seventh biggest song of the year. Additionally, the song reached number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40, and Dance Club Play charts. In the UK, "Thank You" reached number three, becoming the singer's third top-five single in the UK.

The song was produced by Dido and her brother Rollo, from the band Faithless (poll #109).

i've seen some people (mainly techno/quackity fans from the alliances) interested in getting into etho content after the polls, but it can be a little daunting when the guy's been making videos semi-consistently for over a decade, so here's your ✨ not definitive ✨ guide to Watching Ethoslab!

for starters: etho's videos can get a bit technical! he's a redstoner and is known for making lots of crazy stuff, like the original hopper clock design, a working tamagotchi, and a massive storage system that uses hexadecimal to sort and pull items.

if you're familiar with the life series, that's arguably where you'll get the most "character"/"lore" content from etho! he's been in all three seasons, starting with 3rd life. this is also where he shows off his pvp, and though it isn't as obvious in his own pov, you get to see everyone else being really intimidated and hyping up his mysterious guy persona... while he's busy crying over his stuff getting burnt.

however, if you want to start with some regular single player content, his lp series has been going for over a decade! if you're a big fan of older, nostalgic vids and can deal with him being a bit awkward, his season 1 is just over 100 episodes and imo is still very fun to watch today. if you're less into that, it can be intimidating to try and pick up a series with nearly 600 episodes, so you might want to start with his most recent world tour! it's a long one, but it summarises all the work he's done so far, and there's only 25 episodes after that which is a lot more manageable! (and then you can go back and watch the rest ^_^)

his current hermitcraft series is only 9 episodes long so it's pretty accessible, though he does start halfway through the season (and purposefully exiles himself across the world with no tools or help until he can beat a raid single-handed. because. jeez.) if you're looking for a more rounded experience though, his season 7 is where i personally started with etho content and is still one of his best series yet! he gets plenty involved with the overarching "story" of S7 too, so it's a great jump-off point if you're just interested in HC in general.

overall, etho is a very chill guy to watch.. most of the time.. and i would highly recommend him to basically anyone who likes mcyt. he's your fave's fave, a pillar of the community, but also a guy just Doing His Thing, and even after a decade he's still finding new ways to improve and change his content... so even if i haven't convinced you to give him a try, hopefully i'll still have convinced you to give him a vote since he's about ~30 votes behind at the time of posting this ;)

Hey, y'all, coming in to make a lil polls announcement :)

Later today I'll be posting the first of the new weekly polls (which will be dropping on Saturdays for the foreseeable future), so I just wanted to explain what I'll be doing with them rq!

I'mma tell you in advance that the concept I said I was gonna start doing is a series of situational polls—basically would-you-rather scenarios and the choices are a bunch of characters and you decide who you prefer for that situation.

And I was thinking that to make them more interactive for you guys, you could suggest the characters for these polls. And the kicker for that is that you wouldn't know what the next scenario is gonna be when you make your suggestions, so, for example, if the question happens to be "who would you rather have a Lady and the Tramp moment over a bowl of spaghetti with" and you'd previously asked to include Gabe Adalhard in a poll... well, c'est la vie 😈

(Don't worry, though, I'd still include options I know fit even if they weren't recommended, and some random ones, too, to make things coherent)

So yeah, when I post a poll, feel free to comment some suggestions for Choices characters to add to future rotations (and I'll do my best to keep track, so even if your character suggestion isn't in the next poll, stay on the lookout!)

Also, I finally decided on the tag for my polls and I've done the whole retroactive tagging thing going back to the beginning of my daily polls, so if you wanna keep track of them going forward or look through some older ones, they're gonna be tagged "#unconquered queries" (shoutout again to the LPS for that one <3)

RUSSELL MAEL: "The two girls were members of a Japanese dance company touring England in 1974. They are women, not men, not Ron, not me. We were very happy that Island Records allowed us not to have the name of the band nor the album title on the front cover. We thought the image alone would speak loudly enough. Try to get a company to go along with that concept today."

SLEEVE ART MINI-OVERVIEW: "The "Kimono My House" album cover, featuring two slightly askew kimono-clad geishas with absolutely no mention of the band at all, has been voted among the best album covers of all time in almost every poll taken. Beck named it again in the November 2001 issue of "Vanity Fair."

Island Records’ Marketing Director Tim Clark fashioned his promotional strategy for Sparks after the one he had implemented with ROXY MUSIC. “The very name SPARKS meant to us that the music would lend itself to a very glossy and arty feel.”  The photographer of Roxy’s glamorous album covers, Karl Stoecker and art director Nicholas de Ville were recruited to create the iconic cover of Kimono My House, though the concept of the goofy geishas was completely Ron Mael’s idea."

PART II: The two garish geishas on the cover of "Kimono My House" with smeared makeup and disheveled hair were the antithesis of Roxy’s classy covers. They laughed in the face of cover art, while at the same time making history as one of its greatest examples! One of them seems to foresee this – with a wink! The chosen cover photo was actually an outtake, shot near the end of the photo session.

It has been voted among the best album covers of all time in almost every poll taken. Beck named it again in the November 2001 issue of "Vanity Fair." The models, Michi Hirota and Kuniko Okamura were from Japan’s Red Buddha Theatre headed by Stomu Yamashta performing in London at the time. The geisha on the right is Michi Hirota, who also provides the memorable abrasive spoken Japanese vocals on the song "It’s No Game (Part 1)" on David Bowie’s "Scary Monsters" album, 1980."

Omg I have Etho history and lore to share!!!! He's one of my favorite mcyts!!!

Ok so starting off, he's apart of a formally popular minecraft server, Mindcraft (Season 1 and season 2) and he's currently apart of Hermitcraft, he is also apart of other servers! He also has a lets play that has been going on since 2010, when the Minecraft Beta first came out! Currently, his lp has 575 episodes as of January of this year!

He plays quite a bit of modded minecraft as well, currently its on episode 10 of season 2.

Along with playing on Mindcrack, he participated in UHC where he supposedly got a reputation for being an incredibly good pvp player. Everyone was scared of him during 3rd life/last life/double life, its bc he plans ahead to take out other players instead of being reckless.

Basically, 3rd life/last life/double life is where you have 3 lifes and on the last life you have an obligation to kill other players. Once they loose all their lives they are out of the game. (BEST team my beloveds <3). Double life is pretty much the same thing except players are put into an enclosed border with on enchanting table given "soulmates" and players share a health bar with their randomized soulmate. Etho's was SmallishBeans

He's been apart of Hermitcraft since season 3. In season 7, he created a shop called Shade-E-E's where he would move the shop once the inventory was emptied or GTWS found it. He did this so GTWS couldn't tax him.

In season 8, he joined the no wings club and was a member for 1000 days. I think in this season as well, he made the horse course for the other Hermits and he made a face for the base he shared with Iskall.

He played a bit of terraria in 2013 but I haven't really watched his terraria series.

Ok some fun facts:

This skin is Kakashi from Naruto and he has only changed it once bc it had his face on the chest.

During one of Minecrafts April fools updates, they named a slab Etho Slab

Hes a programmer and he has a small allergy to soda

By • Olalekan Fagbade New Survey projects winner of Saturday’s Gubernatorial Elections in Imo state Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma is projected for a landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election. A survey conducted by an independent firm puts the margin of victory for the second term-seeking governor at 68%. Findings by Lagos based consultancy think-tank LAKEWHYTE Communications after polling over 13,000 prospective voters across the 27 local government areas of the state showed that the governor will win overwhelmingly and clear the 25% requirement everywhere. The survey further showed that Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will be trailed by candidates of LP, 14%; PDP 10% and APGA, 8%. A breakdown of the survey indicated that “when people were asked which of the political parties they preferred, based on the factors of Trust quotient, Experience, Believability, Track Record, handling of the Economy and Security, 68% of the respondents chose Uzodimma. “While there was overwhelming support grossing between 85% and 90% in some LGAs and others as low as 40% and 45%, the intrinsic and Germaine output and outcome is that there was no LGA where Uzodimma, did not meet and surpass the constitutionally required 25%.” The respondents were drawn from groups made up of but not limited to Artisans; Transporters; Civil Servants; Rural Dwellers; Professionals; 1st-time voters; Pensioners; Students; Youth; Women groups; Town Union Leadership. Assessing the performance of the governor, the report revealed that “When the respondents were asked to rate the governor’s performance in the following critical areas of governance engagement – Education, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Job Creation, Empowerment, HealthCare Delivery, Environment, Tourism and Security – he evened out at an average of 65% of the respondents.” The report also observed that “contrary to the make -believe attitudinisation of the opposition political parties and their governorship candidates that they are set to effect a change by capturing more votes at the polls, the reality on ground, based on interaction with variegated segments of the voting publics, is that their adventure is a failed one even before its commencement. One of the obvious facts revealed d during the survey is that each of the three opposition political parties would be dividing and sharing votes from the same pool of voters with anti-APC sentiments, yet they have the hope of defeating Uzodimma. This is illusory at best and a fool’s errand at worst.”
