Do you think it's too late to try and get into the field of working with cetaceans, specifically orcas, in the US? What with the phasing out of cetacean captivity I feel like there's no point in my trying to pursue the field since by the time I finish my years of required schooling and training there probably won't be anything for me to apply to
I wouldn’t say it’s too late. Even though orcas are being phased out, it’s going to be many decades before they’re all gone, due to their long lifespans. You’ll have to be a realistic about it, but I know people who have been hired in the past year or so as killer whale trainers.
It’s overwhelming, but you just have to take it one step at a time and recognize you’re not going to get a job at Shamu Stadium right away. There have never been that many places housing killer whales, and it’s always been extremely competitive (perhaps even more so in the past)! I don’t know what stage of your education you’re currently at, but focus on getting experience with any animals, particularly non-domestics, no matter the species! That will be the first and most fundamental steppingstone into working with cetaceans, and maybe, eventually, killer whales.

Hey! I saw an animation on YT shorts of yours with your OCs. Firstly, I want to say that your designs are AMAZING. Secondly, as an aspiring artist myself, how did you learn to draw? Are there any good sources you recommend to start learning anatomy, clothes, overall design even? Sorry if this question is overloaded with stuff, but your style is literally so unbelievably inspirational to me.
I've been drawing for well over 25+ some odd years and while I was lucky enough to have a decent art program in my high school, most of my skill was developed on my own time watching several speedpaints, animations, and studying other artists I looked up to and collected over time!
There's a lot of amazing resources for artists out there--the main book series I've had recommended to me and I endorse as well for anatomy is Morpho: Anatomy for Artists. It covers a lot of different subjects from different body parts, animals, clothing, the way fat works on the body vs muscle and much much more. I also have a google drive link I keep in my back pocket that I found here on tumblr years ago (the OG reblogged post is somewhere in the deep recesses of my reblog/casual account) but you can take a look at it here.
Thank you so much for your kind comments, I'm really happy to see my work reaching and affecting more people--that is inspirational in itself!!

If you're still taking questions, could you ask Heru-Sa-Aset what steps I need to take next in order to achieve our goal by Wep Ronpet this year?
the overarching theme of this reading is the emotional blocks you’re currently going through. there is something that you need to work on currently to best achieve your goal, and what’s more - you can start doing this right this second! no need to wait. the problem presented by the dice is a judgement issue - are you quick to be nasty towards yourself? this is what the dice have brought to my attention - and what’s more, is these feelings aren’t just stated, but they glue themselves to you. they repeat in your brain, and it just causes more damage over time. you need to be able to let them go, and be honest with yourself here - do you deserve such harsh standards? be compassionate to yourself - being judgemental isn’t any more acceptable when it’s directed inwards, you know! and you need to acknowledge how far you’ve come, just the same! look towards the people (and spirits and/or deities) who love you - look at how highly they think of you! that’s worth planting deep into your heart - the truth of how wonderful you are is still there, no matter what you think or say. you are wise, you are capable. you are you.

all i‘ve been thinking about this week is the idea of a fic where reader is the equivalent to alexia putellas: captain of real madrid, maybe even on the same position, ballon d‘or candidate, real‘s 11, captain of their national team and so on… and they are rivals and reader is rather cocky and arrogant in press conferences next to alexia being shy. Anyways in every el clasico it‘s basically just alexia vs reader and it‘s really enemies to lovers
And i literally can not start writing cos i know once i‘ve started with getting the idea out of my brain i won‘t be happy with how it turned out and it will forever rest in my google docs
(and the only experience i have with writing is my marvel stuff and i literally cringe every time i now think of marvel so that isn‘t helping)
Oh cute, that's a cool idea! And it's totally alright if it never leaves your head or drafts, I have so many things I've started yet can't seem to fully flesh out or finish so I totally get it. Would def be a nice read if you do write it tho!

I know this is a random question. But I've just seen your High&Low characters searching through the tags.. Do you know anyone who is still active in the fandom? Because I'm in the process of creating my own characters for some stories. I actually had to make a poll for one of my characters because I've been indecisive about her. But there's a part of me think feels like I'm wasting my time since it seems most of the fandom isn't active anymore. I know that shouldn't bother me too much. But half the time I feel like I'm wasting my time doing things.
hi there anon, you are certainly correct in the sense that the high&low fandom is pretty quiet right now due to it having been a while since the last film or show came out. i may be wrong but the oc fandom here overall seems a bit small and hushed in general. nonetheless, i certainly think sharing your oc with the world would be worth it even if only a couple of people see it. my high&low edits are some of my least popular ones yet they are some of my faves nonetheless since the series is close to my heart. in short, i say do it! i only know one other creator personally who has high&low ocs @xoteajays, so i urge you to check them out. you are also welcome to tag me in your oc edits if you so wish! all in all, don’t let anything discourage you from sharing your characters/stories. if doing so being you joy, do it!

Okay, this is probably a weird ask but I have a Narnia question! So, the Lewis estate has determined that the Chronicles can only be published in chronological order. I know that some versions in publishing order still exist, but they're hard to find. Do you have any ideas or tips on getting my hands on a set?
(if this ask is rude or outside your pay grade, feel free to get rid of it, I just thought you might have some ideas)
Hey there! Not a weird ask at all. It's actually a lot easier than you think!
So it actually wasn't the Lewis Estate who originated the reorder. When HarperCollins became the primary publishing house for Narnia in the early 90s, they were the ones who reordered the series. Douglas Gresham voiced support by citing one of Jack's letters, but it was definitely the publisher's decision.
The good news is that the reorder really wasn't that long ago in the scheme of things! The series was published in the 50s, millions and millions of copies were printed, and then 30-ish years later the re-order happened. Thus, there are tons and tons of copies with the original numbering just floating around in used bookstores and library book sales and whatnot. Keep your eyes peeled and you'll run into them. They're really not hard to find at all.
For example:
These editions are from right before the reorder (1988) and will generally be in good condition when you run across them in my experience. I found this copy of HHB at a library book sale and the MN copy was given to me by a friend, who stumbled across it on vacation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were both used bookstore finds. I don't think I paid more than two bucks for either of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LB is the seventh book in either order, but you can see the original numbering on the back of this one. I got this at a Christian book table while I was at a college min conference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've got a handful more, but you get the point. If you're just concerned about the original numbering (as opposed to like. wanting a first edition or something), you probably won't have to look far.
That said, if you don't want to wait around and stumble across them organically, I've had success hunting down particular editions of books on used book websites like Thrift Books and Second Sale. Etsy has gems from time to time as well.
I would also recommend consulting Goodreads to figure out which editions are which. They have pages where they just list out all the different editions of a particular book and it's super helpful. Here's the page for the entire series, but they've got pages for each of the individual books as well.
Hope that helps!

Hi. I've been a lurker in most of the fandoms I engage in primarily because I'm like afraid messaging someone on the internet might be misconstrued? Like you're here and you like this thing too, but we don't know each other? So even though you think you could have a lot to talk about you're worried that reaching out might freak the other person out?
jes here! kit and bec, feel free to chime in if you have other thoughts. I think this is a completely normal worry to have about reaching out to people you don’t know, whether in real life or online. but I also think that in online fandoms, there’s very much an established culture of strangers talking to each other and building relationships with each other around shared interests. it can be a bit nerve-wracking to be the one who reaches out, but usually the worst that can happen is the person doesn’t reply or gives a somewhat bland response (which might mean any number of things… they might be distracted, or busy with IRL stuff, or not in a place where they’re looking to make friends, or whatever). so you just move onto the next!
I think making fandom friends is a bit like dating on the apps, where you often have to go through a number of so-so first dates with strangers before you find someone you really click with. so don’t give up if the first person or even the first handful of people don’t turn out to be Your People. it doesn’t mean that you’re weird or that others perceive your efforts to connect as weird or that you’re doomed to lurk forever when you really want to make fandom friends! all it means is that you haven’t yet found somebody whose friendship needs and tastes align with your own, which is totally normal (it takes time!). but as we said in the episode, those people you have nice conversations with but don’t form deep friendships with can still be part of your fandom community. it’s nice to get to know your neighbors even if they don’t end up being your fannish soulmates lol.

Hi 9wing! If I remember correctly, you're not native from Japan, right? Did you learn Japanese growing up because it was part of your life? Or later on? If so, do you have tips on how to go about it or what helped you? I have some very basic notions and I'd like to become a speaker, even if I can't write it.
hi! yea so i started learning in the US from a pretty young age, studied through high school, then went to university in japan for my bachelors and got a job here out of college and just have continued living here since.
if any part of this kind of route is available to you i would recommend it, but here are some general tips i hope you can apply in some way to your journey:
try to find a way to learn (at least partially) from a teacher native to japan. this can help you nail down pronunciation.
if you’re really aiming to become fluid try to learn to write. it seems daunting but i really think it helps illuminate the language in your brain when you’re speaking it.
kanji is intimidating but i absolutely recommend learning it! japanese has a limited set of sounds used, and there are plenty of words that sound exactly the same but use different kanji or can only be figured out through the context of a sentence. having a knowledge of kanji goes a long way in assisting your listening comprehension. after coming to japan i took a kanji drill class where we learned 80-100 characters a week in order of their frequency of use, and i studied around 2100 characters total. it was hell but i completely recommend it.
find a motivation that compels you or even forces to study. for me, as a kid that was stuff like wanting to be able to read or watch new manga or anime, but as a young adult my motivations were things like having a job where japanese was required, or having to use the language in my daily life because i lived here, and befriending or dating local people who didn’t speak english. i always aimed to put myself in sink or swim situations. i think this is important if you struggle with self motivation (like me haha)
this is a drastic piece of advice but.. if you’re looking for a job, maybe look for a job at a japanese company’s subsidiary! you will be able to work in your native language but will probably be exposed or have access to a lot of japanese language information related to your work. a lot of people pick up the language this way in their adult life.
a more mild version of the above points is to incorporate speaking in your daily life, outside of your studies. make it a part of your daily routine. this could start off by listening to japanese music or watching an episode of a tv show. even scrolling japanese language tiktok or instagram videos!
keep on the lookout for any irl cultural immersion or exchange opportunities, especially in the city where you live. i might contact your local japan embassy and see if they have any information. you might be surprised! there might be language clubs or events or services in your area. community colleges often offer open courses as well!
never give up! it’s cheesy advice but it’s so true. even small progress over time will lead to a stronger foundation for understanding of the language. and second languages need to be exercised like a muscle. if you don’t use the language, in time you will forget. so get ahead of yourself and find ways to keep pressing on!!

Future tripping like heck about work. Urban divination for going back to school vs taking up a new speciality 🙏

two paths, two cards
The Laundry Omen ---
For going back to school. Feels really apt to me -- you spend more money than you want and more time than you want getting a fresh start to prepare you for something, to cleanse the old, to just have some maintenance. I think the 'omen' part of this is interesting to me, though -- it reminds me of seeing my own bowl of quarters and thinking "aw fuck, I should do laundry this weekend". What about your current situation makes you realize that this may be a necessity? Inspecting that source might be helpful.
The Roach ---
For taking up a new specialty. Not a pretty card to get, but I think the book says it best: "survival, misunderstood intentions". What this path looks like others may not understand, but doing what you need to in order to survive in this world is enough. Leave others to answer to their own discomforts.

How do you think I could ask my parents for AO3? I don't know how they will react, but I really think reading and sharing writing could improve my skill
Well, I’d say to look into A03 and how it works—get yourself familiar with it. That way, if your parents have questions about it, you’ll be able to answer them!
And also put together a list of reasons why you think A03 would be, as you said, beneficial to your own writing. Let your parents know that you really think it’d be a good idea, and show them why!
