tbh whenever i see character designs like wrio where they’re associated with some form of carnivorous animal i instantly hc them as top tier belchers based on that alone, especially the wolf boys 😂 but i like that your ideas for him actually have substance

Well I'm glad that things at least sound like they have substance, as that's my real goal. I will say that these ratings are some ideas and I'm not saying that he's not CAPABLE of monster belches ever. I definitely believe that Wriothesley is. And this was for burps only, I do think he definitely can eat a ton as well.

Personally, I think characters can be complex, though not always absolute, with a lot open to interpretation especially in things like this. There is his character design but also what we know of him with his personality and setting. In this case, some of his personality and behavior conflicts with his "carnivorous" design. I do think he's capable but it also depends on who he is with and situation.

There is one more wrinkle to think about here too. Wrio is a plotter. Half the time, he's trying to disarm people to make them relax or intimidate them. He'll do what he needs to get information out of people.

So he can have manners when he needs to, especially when that gets him farther in society, especially when it disarms people in the Fortress who revere him and think he's unapproachable. Or those in the outside that think he's just a ruffian but he's "respectable."

But when he needs to, he can be one of the guys, crude, lewd, whatever else especially if it's a smaller gathering. He can hang out with other fighters during Pankration Ring matches or checking on him them. If that includes burping or eating then he'll do it.

If he knows that someone HATES or LOVES lack of manners and overeating but needs information from them? Well then they come to his office and he proceeds to eat everything and burp and slurp and pat his gut just to get a reaction.

But this is why sometimes thinking of a particular scenario or situation comes with a clearer answer because it's easier to predict behavior or if there's a reason they might act a bit out of character.

Have you seen or heard of Tim Burton's Hansel and Gretel special from the 80s? If not I think it would be an interesting one to cover since you cover fairytales. It's main difference is how it takes place in Japan instead of Germany, the witch is played by a man and has a candy cane nose, and there's a gint gingerbread man who is nightmare fuel

I heard of it, know of it, have seen a few bits here and there, but I never fully watched it - mainly precisely because of how weird it all seemed I had to get in the right mood (especially since Burton's works tend to be a hit-or-miss for me). I might get this one out again when I will do a new "spooky season". I already have a post in preparation for one really bizarre Hansel and Gretel story, so I think that will cover my quota.

Fun fact: having a witch be played by a man isn't that surprising! It is a common tradition when it comes to things such as stage play for children or pantomimes to have wicked witches be played by men. (It all goes back into a long and convoluted debate of traditional stage habits and old humoristic techniques and the aesthetic of the burlesque vs modern day sensibilities about genders issues, drag queens and other queerphobias, so I will NOT get into this)

But in terms of Hansel and Gretel depictions, I know that at least in term of modern staging of operas (and musical children play, and pantomimes) it is quite a recurring thing to have the witch be played by a man. (Of course in the opera there's also an additional dimension of how the voice range defines the character more than the performer's gender, hence why in typical Hansel and Gretel operas the two siblings are often played by women due to the voice range needed for "pure and innocent child characters" - but you get what I mean, that in general, there's this habit of crossdressing-fairytale wicked witches on stage)

🍡 - Can your muse cook? Can they bake? How well can they do either? Do they have any kitchen disaster stories? (for each of them!)

Etienne is a stellar cook, and he thoroughly enjoys cooking as well as baking. He likes to attend cooking classes for different types of cuisines and whenever he sets foot into a bookstore, he's bound to buy a new cookbook.

Wester is a pretty good cook. Because of the whole werewolf thing, he has certain foods that he cannot eat, which has resulted in him going out of his way to find recipes that fit his needs. He's also extremely active, so the amount of food that he consumes in a day is pretty significant, which also means that he gets a lot of practice when cooking is concerned. The only baking he does is bread and doggy biscuits (the biscuits are for the dogs at the shelter, not for himself...most of the time.)

Sylvester is an awful cook. He sees food as fuel, and nothing more, causing him to put little effort into the things he eats. He can follow a recipe, as long as it's specific enough, so it's not a complete lost cause...

He definitely has accidentally switched salt and sugar before. More than once, as well as cinnamon and curry powder... And he's put a can into the microwave before when he was sleep deprived. Might be better to just order some food when you're visiting him.

Benjamin is fine at cooking. He doesn't do it a whole lot, he has a personal chef so he rarely sets foot into his own kitchen, but if push comes to shove, he can make a few pretty decent meals. He enjoys sweets, but he does not like to bake. It gets too messy and he hates it when he accidentally gets flour on his clothes.

Mary can cook a little, though she's pretty bad at multitasking while cooking, so she prefers to keep it simple. The same can be said for baking, simple cookies and cakes are totally possible, but anything that requires extra steps besides measuring ingredients, mixing and putting it into the oven, are a no go.

She also accidentally set the kitchen in her home ec class on fire when she was still in school. The teachers were convinced she'd done it on purpose (to be fair, she has a history of causing problems), but nope, it was a genuine accident this time around... I mean how was she supposed to know that paper towels would catch fire in the oven?

Not that I have planned - though never say never, I guess. I could end up adding something at some point but I doubt it. There's two flashbacks with Klaus and Sam still to come throughout the fic, but as we make our way into the third act, most of the flashbacks will be between Klaus and his siblings, snapshots into their lives throughout the centuries. I'll be building their relationships more now I've firmly established the world building. There's going to be some angsty stuff around Klaus and the Curse of the Five, specifically. 😭😭😭

Catalina's werewolf form should have had red fur tbh, there are wolves with a reddish hue. Also it was kinda vague but I really don't buy that some spirity miasma got ahold of her and now she's a furry every full moon. It's another case of too much inexplicable magic oversaturating the show (it could have been better if they ditched the whole werewolf hunter profession)

I have no problem with either her design (especially because they were trying to keep who the wolf was a mystery), nor with how they chose to portray how the werewolf is passed on. It's a refreshing take, and the whole thing was an allegory for mental illness, anyway.
