I didn’t know I was—until my daughter decided to cut 8 inches off! She was so confident and completely unbothered by the idea of letting go of the length, but I was surprisingly emotional about it. As I edited this video, I understood why: her independence and bravery were a reminder for me to let go, too.

The big chop was a special moment for both of us, and she’s absolutely loving her fresh new look—so am I! It’s amazing how something as simple as a haircut can teach us so much about growth, change, and letting go.

Washing my hair and cleaning my face is/feels like an unexplainable self care ritual, that is a part of my healing process, from things that have taken a toll on me mentally, physically and emotionally. I've been #Natural for the last 12 years, I've done 2 #BigChops and I'm almost two years into my second set of #Dreadlocs. I no longer use all of the products on my that I once did, because I know my scalp and understand my tightly coiled #4cHair. On my second set of locs I chose to go with thicker #locs due to thinning that occurred, in the first set, due to not getting the right amount of nutrients from foods aftet my #Vsg Surgery in 2011. However, my face is a very very raw subject for me because I suffer from what I call an extreme case of #Hirsuitism, which I cover up most of the time I spend outside of my home. I am a product junkie when it comes to my face and 'm always looking for something to get rid of all the issues that come with #PCOS, such as acne, dark spots, unwanted hair growth (upper lip, chin, jawline, and sideburns). 2018 was really a test of self, to see how bad I wanted the things I said I wanted and to see if I could really endure all the things I said I could, to get there. It was a learning and a growing year, a year I dont think I deserved to go through, but I definitely wont regret it. 2019, brings continued growth, proseperity and an abundance of joy, life and freedom.
