I have the intense urge to make a character say something like "This is something that could only happen in a book!" And then skip a line and just entirely interrupt the story to go (Hello, author here. The above statement is true! Luckily, this is a book.) And then when it goes back to normal add in a little bit that goes '[Charater] blinked, and looked up at the sky briefly with a confused expression. They shake their head and return to the conversation, unnoticed by any. (Except us, of course. ;)'

Sunday is also in the Highschool 🌹🗿🐦-centric AU! When I made this AU I never thought there'd be a Halovian siblings BP icons with their school outfit, guess Xipe has answered my prayers after all.
Tumblr media
Sunday in this AU is very protective of his sister because Robin's strange "luck" keeps attracting so many weird people (and things) to her. That's why it took Argenti and Ratio (along with Robin's efforts and a lot of egg tart boxes) quite some time to win Sunday over and get permission to be friends with Robin. ┐(‘~`;)┌

Helloooo, you asked for RE village asks.
What kinda pampering do you think Miranda likes? (Especially from an s/o)
I think she'd like having her wings massaged but only if she really trusts the other person.
YES HI HELLO
Tumblr media
I meant to answer you right away, but then I got distracted writing a lil smt about Miranda and her housewi-I mean assistant. It´s a one-shot, so it shouldn´t take all too long to finish, hopefully. 🤭
...And then I got distracted writing a lil smt about Miri the Workaholic, which you will find further down. 🤭
SPEAKING OF-
Tumblr media
(Someone´s very much looking forward to this one...)
First of: It is crucial to understand that I view Miranda as a rather...practical being. She´s not big into all that lovey-dovey stuff, simply because she prefers getting straight to the point. Everything else is a waste of time in her opinion, and while she does technically have all the time in the world (perks of being immortal), she quite lacks the patience for it.
Besides, she´s a workaholic. Ynow what has her undead heart soaring? Seeing her papers neatly organized in separate stacks. Bonus points if they´re labeled. 😩🤌
So, when it comes to actual pampering (as in: things you do to her), what immediately comes to mind is preening because that actually has a use, yknow what I´m saying? Yknow, plucking those loose feathers (gently, if you know what´s good for you), and keeping the good ones nice and clean. That may or may not include a bath.
(She does quite enjoy those, it has to be said. With or without feathers...)
But yeah, it´s not so much about what you can do to her, and more what you can do for her. (That also includes looking pretty for her btw.) Therefore-
Pampering Birb Momma would include:
keeping her lab nice and clean
just like her feathers
taking notes for her so she can do other stuff in the meantime (she´s a sucker for proper time management)
keeping her jewelry spotless (mask, handchains, etc.)
handing her tools, adjusting the light, anything she might need when she experiments on someone (that one might get a satisfied smile out of her)
awaiting/welcoming her when she gets home like a good little waifu
that will do wonders for her mood, especially when she´s had a rather tiring day with her "children"
bonus if you´re wearing an apron (they just...do smt to her, it´s all about that domestic stuff I´m telling ya)
polishing her cutlery (she has no use for it, but she loves shiny things)
(...she´s part bird yall, cmon)
luring ppl into her lab for her to experiment on so she can take care of other things in the meantime (it´s all about that time management, ppl)
bonus if you wrap them up like a present, bow and all
that will actually get a laugh out of her
(Miri has a rather dark humor)
applying her makeup (not that she´d ever admit it, but...that one drives her wild)
So ye, any kind of pampering is more related to how you can help her with her work because that IS all she does, basically. That´s what she lives for. However-
She could be persuaded into taking a break now and again. Perhaps. If you ask real nicely. Apron and all.
What I´m saying is: Don´t use words. She´s not listening anyway because she´s already knuckle-deep in her next specimen, mumbling to herself as if possessed. If you wanna get her attention, you have to demand it. Be the aggressor, yknow?
...Meaning:
HOW TO APPROACH A WORKING BIRB MOMMA 101:
(Participate at your own peril.)
Start by grazing the tips of your fingers against the feathers located at the very edge of her wings - known as the primary feathers. Go nice and slow, so as not to spook her. (Failing to do so could result in fatal consequences.) A light ruffling of wings or a flitting of eyes in your direction typically means your touch has been accepted. (Should you find yourself faced with neither of those things, don´t let that deter you! You´re still standing, which means your presence is tolerated regardless.) Proceed with firm but gentle precision as you slowly work your way to the base of her wings. You may apply slight pressure here and there, but make sure to keep your eyes trained on her face and posture at all times to avoid missing any signs of discomfort or unease. (Failing to do so could result in fatal consequences.)
Those signs could include:
a furrowing of eyebrows
a twitching of her jaw (typically a result of chattering)
a puffed up chest
a sudden and strong ruffling of wings, usually accompanied by a puffed up chest (a defense mechanism to appear bigger and more threatening)
a strong release of air through mouth or nose (resembling a hiss)
a low humming sound (resembling a growl)
in extreme cases: loud, harsh squawking or screaming
Body language is a primary form of communication for many species, and knowing hers is essential for survival.
By now, you should have reached the feathers located midway between the base and the outer wings - known as the secondary feathers. Those are more sensitive to the touch, so start by softly running your fingers along the plumage towards the base - your goal. Now, the same strategy applies: Be on the lookout for any signs of discomfort or unease as you move along. (Failing to do so could result in fatal consequences.) If you find neither of the aforementioned signs, you may also try and slip your fingers between the feathers. As those are more sensitive, your touch might evoke a stronger reaction, such as a violent twitch or a strong ruffling of wings. If that happens and it is not accompanied by a puffed up chest: don´t.panic. It is vital to understand that this isn´t a sign of discomfort, and showing fear or hesitation in such a moment could trigger a fight or flight response. Given the nature of her species, fight is the more likely reaction. (Which will most likely result in fatal consequences.)
This is why I cannot stress this enough: understanding her body language is crucial.
If you´re able to read this: good job! You´ve made it to the base - known as the tertiary feathers. Those are the most sensitive, so it is strongly advised to proceed with caution. (Failing to do so could result in fatal consequences.) If any pressure is being applied at this point, lessen it until the mere tips of your fingers are resting against the feathery coat. Due to the sensitivity of that area, you might notice a slight tremor - let it guide you! Tremors are a telltale sign of victory, so continue feeling for more as you draw closer to where wing and body meet. The trembling might become increasingly more violent the closer you get, so don´t let that deter you. On the contrary: you´re nearly there, so keep pushing forward! (Failing to do so could result in fatal consequences.)
You will know you have reached the spot when her wings begin to droop, as if gravity is gently pulling at them. Once that state has been achieved, initiate the ultimate checkmate by dancing your fingers along her spine - pressure optional. Proceed to watch in a mix of awe and self-satisfaction as her head tilts back and her eyes begin to close in complete and utter bliss. If you listen very closely, you might be able to perceive a low humming sound.
Got you.
Your hand finds purchase on her shoulder, but before you can apply the slightest pressure, she yields, sinking into the chair behind her with an irritated sigh that more resembles a hiss.
Someone´s angry.
If there is one thing she detests more than failures, it is resting when she could be doing something instead.
You saunter around the chair with a little more sway to your hips than usual before claiming all the space her lap provides to make sure she stays resting. Her muscles ripple beneath you, and you choose to ignore the fact she holds enough power to obliberate armies.
If she wanted to, she could throw you off with a mere flick of her wrist. But, alas...
Her icy blue eyes glint dangerously as she opts to stare at you with a mix of resentment and irritation, eyebrows furrowed and full lips flattened into a thin line. In fact, her gaze is so vicious that you almost believe she wants nothing more than for you to drop dead on the spot.
Almost.
If it weren´t for the fact her arms had wrapped around you as soon as you sat down.
"And what, pray tell, do you think you´re doing?"
How she manages to sound calm despite the storm clearly raging within her never ceases to amaze you. It used to terrify you.
A long time ago.
"Sitting," you reply with feigned innocence, even going so far as to throw your arms around her shoulders as far as the halo adorning her back would let you to settle in further.
"I see that."
...
"Cool."
Conversations with her are always so fulfilling.
"Why?"
Ah, there it is.
"...Why what?"
You can´t help it. Pushing buttons and testing boundaries has become your favorite way to pass the time. You blame the endless spiral of cleaning, and cleaning, and some more cleaning. You get that you have to contribute something, but your mind craves stimulation.
Hence you being a massive pain in her ass from time to time.
"Dove..."
Sigh.
She´s no fun when she has the patience of a boiling pot.
"You work too much…" you admit meekly, avoiding her piercing gaze as your fingers gently bury into the feathers closest to them.
"I wasn´t aware this was for you to decide."
Fair point.
"Well..." you sigh dramatically, making no move to untangle yourself. "If my presence causes such pain and misery for you, then I guess you can always just...let me go?"
Both of you are aware that you aren´t merely talking about her arms currently wrapped around you. They tighten their hold at the mere mention, causing you to risk a peek.
...
It takes everything in you to keep from grinning like the Cheshire Cat as the fold between her eyebrows deepens and the glint in her eyes transforms into an ominous glow.
Got you.
Again.
With slow and deliberate movements, your right hand shifts from the feathery prison of its own making to her face, where your index finger begins to smooth out the persistent crease between her eyebrows with gentle precision.
"I´m bored," you whine, uncaring of the fact you sound like a petulant child.
Now it´s her turn to let out the most dramatic sigh in history. "I´ve given you tasks-"
"Yeah, cleaning. Which I´ve done, by the way. Everything´s spotless."
A moment of tense silence passes.
"Don´t interrupt me, little bird."
Sometimes, you forget that she still scares you. And then you go and do something stupid.
Like interrupting her.
"...Sorry," you mumble, your finger trailing down the bridge of her nose, focusing on how perfect her skin is rather than acknowledging the weight of her judging gaze.
Another sigh fills the air before her hand catches your wrist, stopping your fidgeting and drawing your attention back to her words.
"As I´ve said..." she emphasizes, throwing you a pointed look that makes you want to go back to admiring her flawless skin. "I´ve given you tasks. Tasks that go beyond cleaning, as you well know."
You do know. And you’ve tried your damnest to avoid them since she gave them to you weeks ago.
"I...I don´t wanna..." you admit meekly before letting your gaze drift down to her necklace.
Her chest rises, lifting you slightly as she takes a deep breath - probably to keep herself from tearing your head off in sheer frustration over discussing this topic at least once a day.
You brace yourself for the worst, as always.
...
But it never comes, as always.
Instead, a finger rests against the underside of your chin, applying slight pressure to force you to meet her gaze.
It´s not the all-consuming fury you expected, nor the silent judgement you had grown accustomed to. Instead, it´s something far worse:
Disappointment.
"You don´t wanna?" she mocks you, the crease you fought hard to smooth out now back in full force as her eyebrows furrow in irritation. "Are you truly so selfish to deny me? To deny The Black God? We all must make our sacrifices, little crow. I have told you this time and time again, and I am tiring of this conversation. My patience is but a flicker, and you have long since extinguished it."
And yet, it's been weeks since she tasked you with the ultimate betrayal.
Or the ultimate proof of devotion, in her eyes.
"...Sacrifices?" you echo in disbelief, the temper you fight so hard to contain in her presence starting to rear its ugly head. "You´re asking me to send innocent people straight to their doom! People I´ve known my entire life! People I love!
You try to break free from her grasp, fully intending to storm to your room, lock the door, and remain there for the rest of the day.
You barely manage to stand before her arm shoots up, forcing you back down as it curls around you in a vice-like grip. You begin to thrash and push against her, but her other hand surges up to seize your throat in a firm hold, yanking you back towards her in one swift movement.
Her hold doesn´t hurt much, but it serves as a reminder that it could.
"Was it not you who wished for variety?" she hisses, her breath hot against your cheek. "Was it not you who wailed about setting foot outside again? Was it not you who wept for those pests to quench your thirst for companionship?"
Her grip tightens at that, reminding you of her possessive nature. She doesn´t show it often, but you know it´s there - lurking just beneath the surface, waiting to be unleashed.
"That is what is due," she snarls. "That is your sacrifice."
She releases your throat, but her arm remains firmly wrapped around you. You feel her piercing gaze drilling holes into the side of your head, daring you to oppose her again.
You say nothing in response as you keep your eyes trained on a speck of dust on the floor that you somehow missed, stubbornly refusing to meet her gaze. You know how much she despises that.
Being ignored, that is.
"Perhaps I´ve made a grave mistake by placing my faith in you, hm?" she continues in a low hum, trailing the back of her finger along your cheek. "Perhaps it would serve me better to have you strapped to my table? Transformed into my next specimen? Perhaps then you will discover a sense of gratitude for the position I´ve so generously offered you."
It´s not the first time she´s playing that card - trying to bend you to her will by threatening to make good on the promise she made all those months ago, when you first stepped out of line. Maybe that´s why, instead of fearing for your life as you probably should, all you feel is exhaustion.
You refrain from opening that can of worms, however. Despite all evidence to the contrary, you´re not that stupid.
Just like you refrain from addressing the fact that you were never really offered anything. An offer implies having a choice.
Instead, you continue to ignore her, your eyes idly scanning the floor for any more dust particles you might have missed. How can such a small space get dirty so quickly? It feels like once you’ve reached one end, you could start all over again. It´s ridicul-
A finger on your jaw interrupts your thoughts, turning your head to face her once more.
Her eyes are the only sign that you´re getting under her skin - that ominous glow is back.
"Don´t tempt me, dove..." she warns. "My tolerance for your perpetual insolence is tied solely to your more appealing qualities as a potential vessel, should I ever find myself out of options. Keep testing me, and that day might arrive sooner than you think."
You know you shouldn´t. You didn´t merely poke the bear today - you speared it. The best course of action now would be to keep your mouth shut, nod in humbled defeat, and hope you look convincing enough doing it.
But you´ve never been one to follow your own advice. If you were, you wouldn´t be stuck with the Devil today.
"...You think I´m appealing?"
...
There is a moment of silence.
And another.
And another.
The silence stretches on as you watch her watching you. Her eyes take their time mapping your face, scrutinizing every inch with a precision usually reserved for the unfortunate souls strapped to her table. You´ve yet to feel the hard wood pressing against your back or the cold leather cutting into your wrists and ankles, but you very much feel the raw power she radiates.
And then her eyes stop.
Her finger trails along your jaw towards your chin, where it lingers - tapping once, twice, thrice, as if considering something - before your jaw is seized between her pointer and thumb. She uses the hold to pull you closer, stopping only when the tip of your nose nearly brushes hers.
You can´t stop your eyes from mirroring hers as they dart down, fixating on her plush lips.
The breath catches in your throat.
"I think you have tasks to complete."
And just as quickly, it´s released again as you sink into her, your body deflating in a frustrating mix of relief and disappointment.
Only to feel disappointed in yourself for feeling disappointed in the first place.
And then you take the time to acknowledge her words, and a new wave of frustration washes over you. You know she won´t yield on the matter, but you can´t stop yourself from pushing it one last time.
"...Can´t I just...sacrifize a goat or two?" you sigh, fingers starting to fiddle with her necklace. A nervous habit of yours.
You´re surprised when, instead of finding yourself on the receiving end of one of her outbursts, a low, melodic chuckle reaches your ears. It´s a beautiful sound, and one you´ve managed to evoke only a handful of times since she bound you to her service.
You´re unable to stop the hope from blossoming in your chest-
"Insolent little bird..."
She says nothing more in response, and that hope wilts again like a dying flame.
This conversation is over.
With a heavy sigh, you release her necklace and begin the process of untangling yourself-
Her grip tightens.
You glance at her in confusion for a moment, taking in the slight curl of lips and the lidded eyes, before you realize-
They have yet to leave your lips.
The realization barely has time to settle before her thumb begins tracing your lower lip. Her touch is no more than a whisper, nearly prompting you recoil from the ticklish sensation.
Her icy blue eyes snap back up to yours then, keeping you rooted to the spot as her thumb continues to drive you mad.
It´s clear what she wants, but she makes it your responsibility to provide it. She always does.
Another way of proofing your devotion to her.
Your eyes stray downward in response and, at this point, you´re no longer ashamed to admit that the tantalizing sight clouds your mind almost instantly, pulling you in like a moth to a flame.
She always does.
Just before your lips brush hers, you´re hit with the compelling urge to seek out her gaze once more.
Her eyes are burning.
Then, suddenly, the world around you darkens, and your eyes just so manage to catch a glimpse of feathers before you´re plunged into total darkness.
Save for those burning eyes.
And then, you´re burning. Your lips have barely grazed hers before she´s consuming you, the restraint she´s shown until now discarded as she takes what is due.
...
It´s not the stimulation you had in mind, but you´re not about to complain. Lest she does make good on that promise...
At least you got her to stop working.
.
.
.
Any mistakes you might find: keep em. I was too lazy to read it back. 💀
Besides-
Since this will become the 1st part of (hopefully) many of my planned series (which is really just a way for me to indulge in my obsession for Birb Momma without having to worry too much about the plot), this version will probs undergo some tweaks and adjustments first before it´s released on ao3 too.
Hope to see yall there! 🐦‍⬛🖤
(The next part is already in the works. 🔥🤘)
.
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR ASK! 💋
(Btw: I´ve been rewatching the part of Shadows of Rose where Rose meets Miranda to get some inspiration, and DUDE-
Miri´s eyes are positively crazy, I cant- 🫠❤️‍🔥
Also the way she breathes the words?? Yknow what I´m saying?? 😩🤌
Also also: TALL. 🫠)

I rewrote my novel. Admittedly I deleted it because it felt like it was me ranting and you wouldn’t enjoy it, but it made me feel good that you wanted to read a random person’s analysis.
To get out of the way first is the potential wild card invisible stalker. I saw some people speculating it was Mumbo because that seems like a rogue ability, but there’s no reason for him to have been stalking this group he barely knows instead of be with his own. I think it’s a new character, which you didn’t tag either for spoilers or because they don’t truly appear in this story. The latter is my guess, and their purpose is to be another thing hanging over Gem’s group as they go into the fight. As to who they are, because of that recent post on spoilers and the ninja thing, I’m going to guess Etho. The “why” for whoever it is is “to be revealed” information.
Next, the bird reunion. Based on that summary, they have to fight and it’ll definitely be intense. My guess is either during the pre-fight banter between the others or when they first come in contact and a failed sneak attack, the twins will recognize each other, hesitate, but go into the fight anyway because that’s what their friends/masters want. Major cognitive dissonance. I predicted one would get the upper hand and almost, but not quite, finish the other, but more specifically I think Grian will beat Pearl because she’s still injured. If I was writing it, he’d notice the injury, target it because that’s what a good killer does, and simultaneously hate himself for it. And then more delicious angst because a good avian would finish her off, but he can’t do it.
Meanwhile, I think Gem would be fighting the other two. She says in the first chapter that she’s low on magic, but she’s scary enough without the spirits. If I had to guess, I’d say she could normally solo everyone in the other group (not without difficulty, but would win in the end), but it would be the combination that could get her. Scar is also running low on magic, but we don’t know how the two compare. I don’t think we’ve seen Scar fight without magic either, so he could quickly empty his reserves. Mumbo is a very scary opponent and has the element of surprise, but I’m not sure how he’d stack up in a brawl. Judging by that summary of him nearly dying, I’m not optimistic. Scar has previously detected enemies with the spirits, but it’d be interesting to see if another nature elf can go undetected with their own magic. Then it’d be up to Grian to notice them when they’re pretty close, if he’s in a state of mind to do so effectively.
Speaking of state of mind, that was just them physically. Mentally no one is doing well. Mumbo and Scar are worried about Grian and are probably mulling over the target they painted on their backs. Gem is stressed out about the stalker, always worried about Pearl, and her guilt and frustration are turning to rage. That could all cloud her fighting abilities, but so could that empathy she’s trying to shut down. Recognizing Mumbo could give her pause, as could seeing Pearl in Grian and herself in the other boys. A vision just came to me of Grian using his wings to protect one of them from Gem and that causing her to stop. I could also see her stopping if she thought Pearl was about to die again. Both sides would stop if one of the avians admitted they’re siblings, but I can’t see them forcing that information out in the middle of a fight. I think the fight will end with one side recognizing themselves in the other and choosing not to continue. Then we can get a more wholesome birb reconnecting.
The thing I’m less sure about is Impulse and Skizz. I don’t quite know if they’d even participate in the fight or how that would go. I can easily see Impulse deciding not to participate because it’s not his job and he wants to protect Skizz, or him going with the group and being worried about Pearl with this job. If they do participate, that weighs things more in the favor of the Soup Group. From what we’ve seen, Impulse is strong and can tear through normal adventurers. Of course the boys are much stronger, but I’d expect him to hold his own. Skizz is a little more tricky. If he fully fights, I’d expect he’d be a beast. He was nearly retained, so he had serious skills, the only concern would be how much fighting he’s done since being sold. Granted, that didn’t seem to hold Grian back. I doubt Skizz’s heart would be in this fight though, and he’d be looking more to see if Impulse will die or if he can kill him. That won’t happen of course. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if a moment comes and Skizz either saves Impulse or doesn’t take the kill, and later has to ask himself why.
So, yeah. That’s my thoughts on what I think is being set up for this story. You don’t have to respond to this. Now I know that even if you don’t, you still enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing if I’m right or be proven wrong. Doubt I’ll be disappointed either way.
I
LOVED
THIS
SO MUCH
RAHHHHHHH
This is so so so so sooooo cool!?
Obviously I'm not gonna super in-depth respond to any of your predictions because I don't wanna give any tells because spoilers but I need you to know that I LOVED THIS.

The weight of their head on Isaac’s shoulder snaps him out of the concentrated trance he’d found himself in. He turns his head, slowly and with bated breath, and feels his cheeks flush bright red at the sight that greets him. Sure enough, they’d fallen asleep on him. He should probably wake them up, he thinks, but as they breathe softly and their chest rises and falls and he watches, he’s not thinking much at all.
He couldn’t understand why they’d insisted on accompanying him for his late-night research session when they had other things to do. There was no reason to do so since he’d gotten by completely fine on his own, but they hadn’t backed down. Isaac was notoriously weak to them anyways—anyone in the mansion knew he would have said yes no matter what. They had a way of making him feel calm, like his existence wasn’t torture, like he didn’t constantly make mistakes and misunderstand the people around him.
They were quite the paradox. They laid themselves out to him like an open book, and yet he couldn’t read much of the words. Over the weeks they’d known each other, he’d learned how, but most of the pages were filled with jumbled words he didn’t understand and beautiful pictures he couldn’t interpret. And yet they were never a cruel teacher. They were the most patient person he’d ever met, guiding his hands across the gold-lined pages and helping him sound out the words that lead him through the paths of their heart. Sometimes, the words he found helped him find the way through his own heart. It was undoubtedly a beautiful thing, and although it was void of the equations he’d depended on his whole life, Isaac found himself less frightened by the day.
They would never hurt him. They treated him far too gently for that. Always there with a kind word and a nod when he began to ramble, always there to tell his housemates to knock it off with their teasing but often teasing him themselves, always there to hold his hand and ask him if he needed a hug at the end of the day. They prepared him tea on nights when he couldn’t sleep, too focused on his research and knowing he’d pass out at his desk and wake up with a blanket draped across his shoulders. There would be a little note scribbled out resting on top of his stack of papers, signed with their name and letting him know that they’d be bringing him breakfast in the late morning.
He wishes he had the courage to do the same for them. It was one of the many things about them he found adorable and one of the many things he would never admit to thinking about them.
“Do you think of me the way I think of you?” he murmurs to them, although they are fast asleep. Of course, they do not answer.
The ticking of the watch he fixed just for them echoes in the silence he leaves.
“If I asked you to stay...if I was selfish enough to ask that of you...would you comply? Would you fulfill my wish?” Isaac’s voice is impossibly softer, the yearning in his aching heart betrayed by the wobbling of his words.
They don't belong here. He knows this. They belong back in their world, where they have a family and friends and a life. He isn’t a natural part of who they are, even if he wishes he could grow to be. He wants to be part of what they want so badly, but that’s not possible. He’d only hurt them. And even if they say they trust him over and over, he does not trust himself. They are precious to him, someone he wants to protect more than anything—and to lose them now would destroy him.
His eyes flick back to his forgotten work, and he sighs. Raking his hand through his hair, he picks back up his pen and starts to write again. Their head on his shoulder burns through his shirt. He can feel their warmth. His hand shakes as it scribbles out an equation, and his cheeks still burn a fiery red. He’s gnawing on his bottom lip and bouncing his leg so fiercely he almost bangs his knee on the wood, but he doesn’t stop.
Do they have any idea how serious this is? Isaac could lose control of his hunger at any moment and hurt them just like he did before. His eyes flicker to their hand, and even though the bandages are gone, he still feels that stab of guilt. How do they feel safe enough with him to fall asleep near him? Even if it wasn’t on purpose, they should have left the second they were feeling tired. They should have bid him goodnight and patted his shoulder like they always did when they said goodbye and left him to his own devices. And yet they did not, because they are the strangest phenomenon he’s ever witnessed.
He loves them. He loves them like they strung up all the stars he loves to study in the sky, he loves them like they’re the only person he’ll ever know this well, he loves them like they’re the only person who would ever care for him even though they’d insist they’re not. He loves them like they’re everything and he knows there’s no way he could tell them that. He’s not good with words. He’s not good with affection.
And he is certainly not good with love.
Isaac turns back to them in what he wholeheartedly believes is a moment of weakness because they smell so nice and they look so at peace and—
They whisper his name.
A soft “Isaac” leaves their lips, and he stiffens at the sound. His face burns hotter now, his leg bounces more, his heart is pounding in his ears and his blood is rushing through his veins and—
He whips his head back towards his paper, intent on focusing on his work, only to see loopy scribbles of their name on his notes.
Gah, he needs to control himself.
Even when he wasn’t thinking, his body still yearned for them. How traitorous his hands were.

A List of Gripes, Misgivings, Nitpicks, and Other Criticisms of the Wilds Beta
With the beta winding down, we should all take the time to really reflect on how much we enjoyed it. Well, of course we enjoyed it. This is Monster Hunter we're talking. But the beta was, well, a beta test. Capcom dropped it to us specifically to test out Wilds, and generate feedback. This is exactly what I have today to, if they somehow see this; feedback. This is a list of gripes, nitpicks, and small misgivings about MH Wilds I have developed from my time with the beta. I would also like to hear the thought of the community at large and how they compare to my own. I played about 20 hours of it from Tuesday until Sunday, but didn't quite get to trying out all of the weapons. I do, however, have notes on most of them. While I adored the beta and am just as hype for Wilds as the next guy, the whole point of a beta is still to generate constructive community feedback. To that end, here's what I have to say:
System:
Right off the bat, sure I'm on PS5, but this game *really* needs better PC optimization. As funny as looking like a PS1 game for some people was, that simply should not be happening to so many people who have purchased a new GPU anytime in the past couple of years.
Can there please be an option to play offline even if your system is online? Thank you very much. 100 player lobbies are cool and all, but if I wanted to play a game with MMO elements like that I would play an actual MMO. It was my biggest gripe with World for most of its lifespan, and I can't help but think it's only gonna get worse with Wilds.
Environment:
I get if it was done the way it was for the sake of demonstration, but the weather shouldn't change nearly as fast as it did in the beta. It coming and going so often made it feel a lot less significant.
Gathering was for the most part cool, but had some really tedious aspects. I like the idea using the grappling hook for it, but I think that putting loot away takes way too long. Also why does zooming in automatically take the Seikret out of sprint? Can I please sprint while focusing aback the birb?
Speaking of items, the item box menu was awful. Why are all the useful functions in their own dinky little menu? Literally just give me Rise item box, or at least add a 1-button shortcut to the loadout and select stack menus.
I also think the equipment menu could be a little better. I think there should be some button that specifically goes to the loadouts menu and one that goes to the armor-by-set menu.
Fishing was way too slow. I know the whole point of fishing is patience, but I shouldn't have to wait two minutes just to catch a single Sushifish. The full game will probably have consumable baits to remedy this, but nonetheless fishing as it stood was truly agonizing.
I wish we knew about how cooking ingredients work. How do we replenish them in the full game? Do we just buy them from that little grocery stand in base camp? Do we earn them for doing optional requests? What's the deal there? Dumping a bunch of them onto us was probably the way to go for the beta, but I'm gonna be hungry for answers until the full release drops.
The pop-up camp system is really cool, I just think it needs some fine tuning. I think that monsters ought to be a little less inclined to attack "Dangerous" camps than they were in the beta, and a little more inclined to attack "Unsafe" camps.
Monsters:
Chatacabra's damage was undertuned. I know it's basically this game's drome, but I'm pretty sure Great Izuchi dealt more damage in the Rise demo than Chatacabra ever did. It only barely felt like a threat in that first quest, and that was mostly because we didn't get to eat beforehand.
Doshaguma's damage, however, was overtuned. Alpha Dosha managed to cart me more times on average than Rey Dau. If Doshaguma is sort of supposed to be the Anjanath to Rey Dau's Rathalos, that just should not be the case. Also, I think it was way too aggressive in its last phase. Felt worse than a 4th gen Furious Rajang in that regard.
Balahara was a weird mix of attacks that did way too much damage and did too little. Generally, the mud attacks were a little too strong, and the biting attacks were a too weak, but that might just be a matter of personal taste. Shouldn't the attacks by its mouth, which is a perma-wound when open, be really dangerous to present some sort of risk-reward?
The fight itself was extremely well tuned--overall the best in the beta--but I wish Rey Dau would actually use area 5 more often. I only ever saw it go up there a couple of times. Maybe make it go up there instead of 9 and 10 during the Plenty?
Weapons:
Focus mode is really cool, but trying to move independently from the camera and hold an attack at the same time is really awkward. Maybe add an option to bind Focus Mode to L3 on controllers?
Greatsword doesn't feel nearly as meaty as I wish it would. Also, what why does Hammer have something with a higher MV than TCS? It's a really cool attack, don't get me wrong, but I just find the idea of TCS being dethroned in that regard irksome. Other than that, both were great. I mained Hammer in World and Greatsword in GU, and they're both probably gonna be up there in Wilds.
Gunlance felt strong. Like it did a wee bit too much damage for once. Maybe slightly reduce the shell damage. That being said, please for the love of god don't touch shell scaling now that, after 5 whole generations, it is finally fixed. Maybe they could, however, remove the wee bit of intrinsic fire from them and change that out for whatever element the Gunlance itself has? Pretty please?
Nothing but praises to sing for Longsword, Lance, and Charge Blade. They knocked it out of the park with these. Maybe a little too much with Longsword in particular.
Also no real notes on the Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hunting Horn, or Insect Glaive. I'm not super familiar with these weapons to begin with.
I have no notes whatsoever on any of the ranged weapons. Didn't get around to playing them myself and have never really liked them to begin with. Bow looks cool though.
That leaves Switch Axe. Poor, poor, Switch Axe. The focus attacks are cool. The counter in Sword Mode and the Offset in Axe Mode are cool. Unbridled and Full Release Slash are cool. But why does sword gauge not recharge passively? Why do sword attacks consume so much gauge? Why revert the change from Rise and not let axe mode get phial bursts when amped? Why does Axe Mode feel more like a chore than anything else? Why does the amped state last for so little time? Also why does hitting circle after that one axe combo morph you into sword? Why is morph slash not always an option? Why does trying to input Wild Swing while moving forward do that fuckass running attack? They had a great thing going in Rise, and IMO kinda dumpstered Switch Axe in Wilds from what we've seen.
TL:DR; I hope Capcom does some fine tuning here and there, fixes up the tent menus, makes fishing bearable, and for the love of Gog fixes Switch Axe for Wilds's full release in February. This game is already looking like one of the best 2025 releases, and if they can just tune it a little bit, it might become my single favorite video game ever.

I’m trying to think of CUTE MARCO BIRB HABITS to get the not cute Marco birb habits out of my brain
I got stuffs to do today I don’t have time for Marco brainrot
….
I think he’d subconsciously pick up pretty rocks or shells, he might’ve trained himself out of it later in life but at least right when he got his devil fruit he did (I’m maybe projecting bc I want him to give me pretty rocks and shells…)
Omg the bird nuzzle thing? When they’re like on your shoulder and just squish in to cuddle def when he’s in private
Also another one I think happened earlier on and he’s mostly gotten rid of is sometimes repeating things people say idk why but younger Marco doing that seem so cute
Or just fussing with his hair when he’s stressed or nervous kinda like a bird preening
I’m trying to think of things bc my neighbor growing up always had birds of different types but that’s all I got for rn
Marco's collecting of coasters evolved out of an idle habit to pick up shiny rocks and shells. He still has a few though, I bet. He's a lot pickier in his older age than he was a kid - for a couple reasons, but the most of which being limited space to keep them.
Coasters stack neatly, and shells and rocks not so much, so he has really nice and unique shells and rocks to accent the bar coaster collection.
He certainly likes to perch, but he'll nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck as a kind of alternative to perching. You're not as big as Pops, so it's not like he can just set up on your shoulders. He will with Thatch, but Thatch's a bit bigger than Marco, so it works out well enough.
He does seem like he'da been a bit of a repeater as a kid. I don't even think anyone thought to attribute it to his devil fruit either, like it's just such a kid-thing for them to "parrot" what they hear. XD
I don't think he fusses with his hair when he's stressed or nervous, but I feel like he probably does it to other people. He did it a lot to Pops when he was younger. Pops has a LOT of hair (or had at least) and I imagine more than once Marco had to transform entirely just to be able to detangle himself when he got too nervous and preened himself into a knot. (Which is adorable in my mind cause young Marco's just getting more nervous, and Pops is trying not to get irritated XD )
I think he likes to nest too - not too much, and not always for himself, but he's certainly one to fall asleep inside a circle of pillows and blankets than to sleep "properly" when he's having a rough day. He'll tuck people into a similar space when he's trying to comfort them, since it soothes him.
I bet even even falls asleep in his full form when he's grabbing a nap cause it's just better suited to randomly tucking in and dozing than a human body. ^_^

The Strike of a Villainess
Chapter 1 Chapter 10 Ao3
Chapter 9: A birb
——————————-
“…I’m not sure I know, my lady.” Eloise took Marinette’s hand, bending down to check over the girl. She reached another hand to Marinette’s cheek and the small girl felt a sting.
Through the whole commotion, Marinette got a cut on her cheek. Blood was slowly going down her face.
Eloise scooped up Marinette quickly, looking down at the girl she held in her arms. “I’m going to bring you to someone that will help you. Just hold on tight to me.”
Marinette nodded, eyes wide as she clutched onto the woman’s clothes. Eloise adjusted Marinette in her arms to pull something out of her pocket, a purple marble, and threw it to the ground. After a quick flash, they appeared in a dark, barely lit room.
“My lady, are you alright?” Eloise sat the girl down, a hand going up to trace the cut in her cheek.
Marinette flinched, eyes closing as the cut stung her face.
“‘M fine.” Marinette mumbled, opening her eyes and looking around the room. Books were scattered and stacked around everywhere, shelves held random papers, and in the middle of the room, there was a chalk drawing of a cloak on the ground.
Eloise smiled at the girl before going to chalk drawing and mumbling a few words. After a moment, the chalk lit up and wind started to scatter around the paper in the room.
“You summoned me.” An elegant, soft voice spoke into Marinette’s ears, causing the girl to squeal and hold her ear. Purple smoke filled the room and Marinette could only stare with wide eyes as a purple cloak came into view.
There she was-
Raven- the character Marinette admired most, an idol of her’s, you could say.
A body began to take shape on top of the chalk, with skin the color of ash. First, Marinette could make out flimsy, purple fabric boots. But as she looked up, her heart skipped a beat. There in front of her was Raven, a character she held dear to her heart. Raven had dark purple hair that framed her delicate gray face, cut right to her nape. The eyes drew Marinette in, an unrealistic purple that held knowledge beyond years. But right in the center, shined a red gem, sparkling in the candle light. Raven also wore a simple black leotard that covered her stomach and arms, decorated with gold and red accessories.
“My lady, please meet Sir Raven, a talented wizard and knight of Titans.” Eloise introduced the figure, bowing at the individual. The figure looked slightly uncomfortable but didn’t say anything.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir Raven.” Marinette greeted the woman, bowing before letting out a soft pained noise. Her hand went to her cheek to hold the wound as it started bleeding. Raven immediately reacted, rushing forward and muttering a spell.
“How does that feel?” Raven held the girl’s face in her hand, softly swiping at the wound with her thumb. Her eyes held concern, staring Marinette in the face.
“I-it’s fine.” Marinette stuttered, her hands twisting together, tension was prominent in her shoulders. She stared up at the beautiful woman with wide eyes.
“Good.” Raven stood up, the cloak coming over her to cover her body. “Was that all?”
“Yes, Sir. Thank you for your help.” Eloise bowed, eyes closed.
Raven began to walk towards the chalk but Marinette stopped her with a soft pull on her cloak. Raven raised her eyebrows at the young girl.
“Wait!” Marinette bit her lips. “Please teach me magic!”
“And why should I?” Raven kneeled, staring the girl in her eyes.
“I.. I need to be able to survive on my own- I need to be able to use magic.”
“What use does a little girl like you have with magic and knowing how to survive?”
Marinette looked down at the ground, taking in a deep breath.
“I need to change my future. I will not just be a girl sold off to a man of status. I will be my own human being- not a wife.”
Raven grinned at the girl, a look of excitement in her eyes.
“Come here when you’re ready and I’ll teach you- but it will only be for a couple moments at a time, okay?”
Marinette broke out in smiles, eyes glittering with emotion. “Oh thank you- thank you!”
Eloise cleared her throat.
“Make sure to study before coming to see me. Have the answer to the question: what is magic?” Raven stood in the center of the chalk, giving the girl a soft smile. “These lessons will cost you though.”
“I’m sure the dukedom has enough money to pay you for lessons.”
“I won’t be taking money as payment.” Raven’s eyes flashed red, a grin on her face before they returned back to purple. “Do we have a deal?”
“Yes.”
“Perfect.” Purple smoke filled the room and violent winds knocked over Marinette- suddenly, Raven was gone.
———————-
“Is this okay, my lady?” Eloise carefully scrubbed at her scalp, massaging her head with expensive rose shampoo. It was in a pink glass bottle that Marinette was currently admiring.
“Yes, you’re actually being pretty soft.” Marinette responded, water splashing a bit as she turned around in the tub to face her. “I have a quick question for you.”
“Yes, my lady?” Eloise continued to scrub softly.
“How do you know Raven? Or at least how do you summon her?”
“Raven owes a debt to the duchy and so we are able to summon her at any moment. I don’t know her personally, but I have had to summon her a few times when the doctors were unable to heal you. I thought it was a good time for you to meet her.”
“I see. Can we go to the library tomorrow? I’d like to get started on learning about magic.” Marinette stared at the woman with big eyes. Eloise was unable to turn away from the sparkles, eyes squinting from the light it gave off.
“Of course, my lady. But be careful not to try to use magic without Sir Raven’s permission.”
“I promise!” Marinette crossed her fingers behind her back, giving the woman a bright smile.
“Good, then let’s finish up here, shall we?” Eloise gave the girl a soft smile in return, not seeing the look Marinette shared with her ‘doll’.

Tumblr media
Baby blocks are meeting the baby birbs. Are round! Not like baby blocks, which are cubes. Curious. The baby blocks attempt the snuggles. Take to putting the baby birbs atop themselves. Is silly.
Tumblr media
Silly, Cucco chicks are round. Like regular baby poros. Easier to roll, hard to stack. But stacking is fun. Is why there are baby blocks. Fun is quite snuggly after all.
This is their wisdom for baby block poros.

Today's "I'm bored, lets solo stuff" experiments, done on picto:
All of HW extremes all soloable, but Bismarck sucks most ass (long ass fight even if everything explodes from single spell). Throdan was most stingy and took 12 tries for birb.
Susanoo is impossible alone.
Tsukuyomi possibly too, or I'm just too silly to figure out what I'm doing wrong
Not touching Byakko, I suspect his stacks would murder me too
Lakshmi explodes easier than expected.
Suzaku was a major pain in the ass to do, but manageable. Unsure if I want to bother trying to solo until mount drops or if I should just pf it like normal people.
No data on Shinryuu as I already have the mount from moogle tomes, nor Seiryuu as I've yet to do even the normal one on Yulan
