hello sorry if you've been asked this recently but could you recommend some good adult trans books 👉👈 no worries if you don't!!

there are lots of good ones and i've fallen out of the loop since i left my bookstore job! there's sometimes this attitude that trans writers can only be successful in some genres but there are great trans writers in lots of genres! so have tried to include a mix of genres here to highlight some of that abundance, and because i don't know what you like so want to include many things that i think might spark your curiosity.

i'm leaving a lot of classics off that i'm sure you've heard of or have been told to read, as well as some stuff i read that i didn't love and don't feel i can vouch for. there's also lots of good stuff for younger readers (have esp heard good things about sisters of dorley hall and when the angels left the old country) which is really heartening when i remember furtively reading the one trans novel for teens at my library when i was little! and i like that there are trans characters for younger readers now who don't have tragic endings. but anyway:

i really like anything by casey plett, particularly her novel little fish! i loved ivan coyote's rebent sinner for kind of autobiographical vignettes as well as gender failure which they wrote with rae spoon. gretchen felker-martin and alison rumfitt are big faves if you like horror, they're both so smart and unsparing. your body is not your body if you want a good taste of lots of different trans horror authors. the seep by chana porter for meditative sci-fi. the fifth wound by aurora mattia which is hard to describe but v gorgeous. paul takes the form of a mortal girl if you want something kind of carefree and horny and fun and not devastating or upsetting. summer fun by jeanne thornton if you've ever been like what if velvet goldmine were based on the beach boys. i like confessions of the fox by jordy rosenberg but i think the ideal audience for this book is like transmasc grad students who are horny in a neurotic way so it's not for everyone. stone fruit by lee lai was my favorite graphic novel of 2022 and it's a really beautiful examination of breakups and caring for children as a queer person and also forgiving your family. gaylord phoenix if you like your graphic novels weird.

I unfortunately do not have a master post for her (because im pretty shy about sharing my ocs unless people ask for her directly. Should I make one??) but she is a rather old oc! I think I've had her for a little over 5 years now and she's probably my most loved on OC out of my bunch because I adore drawing her.

Her journey started as a BNHA centric oc actually (lowers my head to the ground), but the idea for her and her design have been in my mind for a LONG time, they just needed a medium to be expanded upon! As everyone here knows, I have a special interest in birds, so BIRD PEOPLE are my thing. Kou is literally just a human owl hybrid right down to her genetic makeup.

(Aren't they so cute. Augh owls are one of my favorite species to dive into)

Her design was initially based on an Asian Wood Owl (above ^^), but over the years that I've had her, she has changed designs and verses along with my art style!! It also depends on if the AU/Verse I put her in allows for her to have more exaggerated features. She has a lot of interesting physical characteristics in fantasy settings (her bone structure and organs are actually so fascinating to me but I'd be here ALL night if I went into it 🤧 if you really want to know more I can make a separate post for it).

Recently she's been in more of a modern setting, and I play with her a lot in the ygo verse with my close friends. Kou can stand on her own as a character in any setting, I just LOVE allowing her to interact with my favorite characters in medias i like ^_^ in modern settings she trades her wings for those plastic Halloween costume angel wings that she always incorporates into her outfits.

I no longer really touch bnha due to a lot of things, but I still do draw Kou with her wings on occasion <3

A morbid and quaint setting full of folklore and horror, foghorn heights is based of the rural south I grew up in and the podcast the silt verses (with my own spin, of course). As you drive down the cracked and pothole-filled roads of the marshes and hickory-oak Forests of the hills, as everyone calls it, you're sure to see grannies sitting on their porches, not caring that the paint is peeling or there's a few rotten boards on their trailer. Behind you, cars are rusted from the foggy air and sputtering and spitting out their diesel smoke. Around every corner is a church, or a farm, or both on the same road. In those dreary, monotonous fields walk the towering figures of angels and locked up in the cellars of that old rotten farmhouse is the corpses of saints. As you drive down the highway, prayers are etched into the telephone poles and sacrifices are tied up in the wires, rotted and bird-eaten. Bones crack under your tires. Woven into the stems of trees, in the fields of hay, are symbols of faith.

Important lore and notes;

This post is to discus the canon of my blog. I have put in a lot of effort and time into fleshing out the lore in my verse. All the details here are my own thoughts and theories on the series. Many hours went into this. @classicheartd helped me so much and shares much of the same lore. @poisonedxbeauty has full permission to use any of my headcanons.

Hazbin Heaven information and the expansion of the universe:

First of all, Lucifer is one of the 7 archangels of heaven. He was considered to be the favorite. The seven archangels are as follows, Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, Raphael, Joel, Lucifer and Metatron.

God created angels first to help with the expansion of the universe.

Angels were created in clutches. The first born were the archangels followed by the angels of creations and so on.

Angels do have stages of life following the cycle of birds; Nestling which ranges from birth to around 1 year and during this time they go through many changes learning the manifest their bodies and hold a stable state. Next would be fledgling, which takes place for the first few formative years. When they are fledgling they are taught how to control their magic, learn jobs and study under the archangels. Next is the juvenile stage, this is equivalent to being a teenager or young adult. This time in an angels life they are just one their own for the first time. The final stage is adulthood. This stage is when angels find their purpose in life.

God considers his favorite creation to be Lucifer. He found him to be the dreamer and most like himself.

God's ultimate plan was to create human. They were his ultimate design to be the perfect beings after years of work. Leading up to this creation he made many mistakes and flaws leading to many abandoned galaxies and experiments. The only angels involved in helping with this task were angels of creation. Many were tasked to look after these experiments. These experiments are often what you think of as myths, fantasy or even aliens.

After the creation of human and man, most angels were tasked with serving the humans beginning some contention between the species.

There was many conflicts leading up to the banishment of Lucifer. One being a fight in Eden leading to some angels being forced to remain on earth and stripped of their wings.

Lucifer however was granted a special gift. He was given the ability to create his own place his own. His blood and Lilith's hellsong gave birth to Hell.

Many angels are resentful of humans but too scared to ever speak out due to Lucifer's punishment.

Not long after the fall of Lucifer, God left heaven. He has been gone for many years leaving the archangels to structure heaven. This was what led to the council and many other arcane practices still upheld today.

No one knows where God is or what happened. Just he ran away.

Verse: Medieval Fantasy

Jack is an adventurer who heads the Hyperiron Organization, an interconnected network of weapons dealers and spies. His abilities include the use of some artificer magic (mostly to restrain the powers of his daughter, whom he keeps locked in a tower with the help of a collar that restrains her very powerful magic), manipulation, charisma, and swordfighting.

Angel, on the other hand, is locked in a tower, but even with herself and her powers restrained, she's allowed to interact with the world in one key way: her powers allow her to possess and control inanimate objects. In Angel's case, this can come in the form of attacking others from miles away, or helping them from miles away by taking control of birds or other animals and allowing herself to speak perfectly through them with her magic. Jack uses this to gather information— and lead other adventurers to their deaths— as he pursues an apocalpytic relic he believes will cleanse the world of evil the likes of which once betrayed him, forcing him to always wear a glamor over a disfigured face.

I've been actively blogging for more than six months, even though I've had a tumblr account for ten years. I started reading One Direction (specifically Larry) fanfiction about the same time.

Originally, I read exclusively canon compliant fiction--I was hungry for industry insider, what-could-have-happened narratives. But I've slowly branched out into other genres. I find fanfic--good fanfic--super calming. When I've had too much stunting, too much noise, I grab a fanfic and immerse myself. So I thought it was time to do a post about my favorites. Keep in mind, I'm terrible at cataloging, and I have over 150 bookmarks on my A03 Account, so this is by no means an exhaustive list.

I'm not including the classics like Tired, Tired Sea and Escapade. While I do love both of those (so well written), because a lot of people know about those already.

Maybe in another universe he isn’t different. Maybe he hadn’t been given an impossible choice. Maybe he wouldn’t have lost everything and broken everything and then fallen impossibly, irrevocably in love with the first next thing that was kind. Maybe in that universe he doesn’t feel like he’s never breathing, always pretending, teaching the kids even though they all have to learn alone, trying hard not to read the headlines, and so afraid, every day, that he won’t be a good enough teammate to the superhero he can’t live without. He knows that love isn’t supposed to feel this way, slid secret under your skin like a surgical razor, an invisible war held close over the tender vein that keeps you alive. On the other hand, Louis wonders, had he ever known how to do it any other way?

Maybe there’s a universe where he doesn’t have to keep all his secrets on the inside.

But this isn’t that universe.

“What?” Zayn repeated. Niall patted his hand.

“I usually just roll with whatever Louis is about to do,” he said. “It’s better for us all.”

“That’s the attitude,” said Louis, “I’ll tell you tomorrow. Tonight, I need to do some research. Zayn, give me your number. I’m gonna save our symphony.”

Me: The best sex scene I've ever read is in the prequel Night Out. Sexy, but tender. I love the characterizations in this duo--ABO but not traditional. Doesn't feel out of character.

The party was going well. So well, Niall had already sworn undying love to one multi-tiered chocolate cake, two friendly corgi-poodle mixes, Zayn’s hair, and the entire population of Los Angeles. So well, Zayn had only laughed and ruffled Niall’s hair and not even twitched towards a cigarette. So well, nearly everyone had spilled far past the boundaries of the night’s original plans, extracting bottles of vodka from the cabinets and losing a lot of clothes. Harry had proclaimed that he was finally going to throw a small and very grownup dinner party and of course here they were three hours later, fifty people half-naked in the pool. Soon to be full-naked, if Louis had to guess. Everybody in LA loved a heated pool. Everybody loved Harry.

Me: I love love love this. Harry is so gentle, and Louis is so stubborn and needy. It's ABO but subtle. I'll read this one again and again. It's comforting.

@HelloAmHere is one of the best writers I know--amazing stuff. I also love their werewolf story, but it's not finished, so I won't link it here.

Very loosely based on the British TV show "The Up Series" and somewhat inspired by the song “Something I Need” by Onerepublic, we follow the lives of Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson in an interview setting every seven years. They fall apart and come together, their lives and emotions recorded. Harry calls it a time capsule. Louis calls it a pain in the arse.

Me: Trigger Warning, major character death. I literally SOBBED through the end of this. It was lovely and devastating. So good. But be warned.

2. Light, Spark and Fire series by @greenfeelings

Life’s pretty ordinary for Harry. He lives with his best friend, got into university just like he’s planned, and manages to support himself just fine for an unbonded omega. If he sustains that lifestyle by getting paid to help alphas through their rut every now and then, that’s nothing to be hung up on. Until he’s hired by an alpha that turns everything upside down.

Or, Louis and Zayn run a music label, Liam is Britain’s up-and-coming pop star, Harry’s working on taking Louis’ walls down until he builds his own up, and Niall holds them all together without realising he does.

Me: A nice healthy three-parter. Characters you just want to live with for a while.

AU. What happens when a baker and a graphic designer meet via a very specific Craigslist post? Fate, friendship, food, and maybe more.

Me: This one is super long, so be prepared when you dive in. It's got a lot of lovely bits, and some great smut.

Me: This is a five-parter and satisfies my love of canon compliant stories. It spans most of 2012 and into 2013, and illustrates the difficulties of Harry and Louis' relationship amid the band success and management disapproval.

Me: Really unusual (as far as I can tell) end of the world story. I loved the characterizations of soul mates here at the end of the world.

Me: Trigger Warning, sexual assault (by an original character to a major character). This was a little brutal because I hated to see a broken Harry, but it was well written and has a happy ending.

Me: I LOVED the Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and I'm a huge fan of time travel, so this is right up my alley. It's really well done, weaving canon into fantasy and then going years forward in tme. I love everything about it. Great character development. Really good smut. Trigger warning, there's a little underage sex, so be aware. Anyway, LOVE this one so much.
