Top 10 Best BLs on Gagaoolala
Tumblr media
My Beautiful Man AKA Utsukushii Kare
Japan 2021
One of the most Japanese BLs to release in the last decade, as weird and as messed up as any 2000s yaoi: emo af and hella warped, entirely true to itself with no attempt made to modify its POV for modern sensibilities or current BL fandom. It used seriously old school problematic and kinky tropes, like whipping boy, for a truly uncompromising piece that also manages to hit up themes of communication, consent, and self acceptance. It’s a wonderful BL but uniquely dirty and harsh, in the best possible way - Japanese cinema, uncompromising.
I lost my ever loving mind over the ending. This show won the Grand Prix “My Best TV Award” at the 16th Galaxy Awards.
Tumblr media
Minato's Laundromat AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry
Japan 2022
A classic age gap romance where a high school student pursues the man of his dreams (who runs a laundromat). This BL is so steeped in yaoi nostalgia, not to mention a classic romance arc, that it will overload some, but those of us who love this genre for its DNA will adore it. It made me very happy because it did everything I want a BL to do - there’s not much more I could ask of a show than this. It’s the closest Japan has come to perfect live action yaoi since Seven Days (and I never make that comparison lightly).
Squee watch-along here.
Tumblr media
My Ride
Thai 2022
Thai BL grew up with this pulp (the first ever to make my end of year top 10). It’s a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine (AKA a cinnamon roll couple) plus mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest, and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede, the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. In other news, I am a sucker for a single dimple.
Tumblr media
Takara & Amagi AKA Takara-kun to Amagi-kun
Japan 2022 I gnawed on my knuckles and squealed a lot with this BL. Reserved cool kid who must learn to communicate to keep the tiny disaster nugget he’s madly in love with. It is beyond charming: soft and gentle, packed with cuteness and high school angst, thirst, & yearning. Was there plot? Not really. Was it emotionally tense and paced well enough for me not to notice? Absolutely. Did I enjoy the hell out of it? Oh yes.
Tumblr media
Kiseki: Dear to Me
Taiwan 2023
The plot is totally ridiculous and slightly unhinged, but that’s normal for Taiwan. It involves all the tropes under a very casual framework of gay mafia gangs + food = love. Absolutely every character is queer. There’s a gum-ball machine of cameos, elder gay rep, great chemistry from all pairs, and a KILLER side couple. As a result Kiseki is a poster child for Taiwanese BL, and I happen to love Taiwanese BL. Bonus? They also managed to END IT WELL, which we cannot expect from Taiwan.
Tumblr media
My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho
Japan 2023
This style of live action yaoi really only works from Japan. Basically: boys who fell in love in college end up living together but both are so repressed they actually don't realize they're in love. It's higher heat than we usually get from Japan's HEA stuff, and that part is also very well done, but it leaned into the "why don't they just talk for fuck's sake?" trope which is only exacerbated into undiluted frustration by the fact that they're already fucking. It's great, but watching requires more patience than usual, even for Japan.
Tumblr media
Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku
Japan 2023
A lonely salaryman and talented cook gets accidentally adopted by a college kid and his little brother. I was always gonna love this show if they stuck to the manga (which is very dear to my heart). And they did, paralleling it almost exactly. It’s a quiet & cozy little parable of found family alleviating loneliness. Possibly too slow for some but definitely high up there for me as the best of what Japan can do with softness (like Restart After Come Back Home). It’s only flaw (if I dare say such a thing) is that it is not really “romantic.” Lovely & sweet but the romance beats are being used to build a family relationship, not just couple intimacy, but that's OK with me. This is a very safe show for anyone to watch.
Tumblr media
Step By Step
Thai 2023
This was Thailand’s answer to The New Employee, and everything I loved about that show I loved about this one. This office romance between a stern boss and sweet subordinate felt more authentic to cubical work than previous Thai BLs of this ilk. That authenticity added tension to the narrative and its characters development (how novel). I also really enjoyed the charming side characters and the brothers' relationship to each other (although I could have done without that brother's side BL).
Tumblr media
Long Time No See
Korea (Strongberry) 2017
Catfishing assassins on either side of a turf war who fall in love not knowing they are on opposite sides. Or do they? Suspenseful plot, good fight sequences, mature characters, hot sexitimes and even hotter beating the shit out of each other and kissing while covered in blog (this came from KOREA?), plus an HEA. One of the hidden gems of the BL genre.
Tumblr media
About Youth
Taiwan 2022
A truly lovely little coming of age high school BL with a classic YA low drama but high angst and an earnest depth. I didn’t even mind the singing, and that’s saying a lot. A weak seme/uke dynamic but tons of BL tropes (both rare in a high school setting but common for Taiwan) makes this one feel both sweet and colored by real world authenticity and grit.
Some of these shows ALSO appeared on Viki or iQIYI, but these BLs will appear only once on these round up posts (here for Gaga), not on the other platforms top 10.
(source)
This list updated Spring 2024, not responsible for cool stuff that aired on Gaga (or was taken off the platform) after that date.
This is part of a series more here:

Dramas I watched in 2022
This year I watched a lot of dramas, I began to watch BL dramas and a watched A LOT, I got addicted, so most of the list will be BLs. It may or may not be in chronological order.
1) My little happiness
It’s an almost enemies to lovers, but the “enemies” part is forgot right in the begining, so it’s an old friends that got apart to lovers. I really enjoyed, the actors are from one of my favorites cdramas “Put your head on my shoulder”, their chemistry is really good and I had fun watching. The 2nd couple is really good too.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
2) Semantic Error
Ok, here we start the BL fever. I LOVED Semantic Error. It’s my frist BL, and it’s on my top 3 dramas of the year. It’s fun, heartwarming, the main couple is amazing, their chemistry is great. After I finished the drama, I started reading the manhwa, and I realized that de kdrama is way more soft than the comics.  Anyway It’s great!
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
3) Be Loved in House: I do.
This one was a recomendation from a friend. I enjoyed, It’s not an amazing drama, but it’s good. The acting is ok, but not great. Its an enemies to lovers, boss/worker relationship, and a sharing house situation, so there’s a lot happening. I iked the main couple, but I don’t really liked the 2nd couple, and to be honest I think they made the wrong choice to dedicate the last episode to this specific character.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
4) When Your Eyes Linger
I don’t really know if I liked this or not. The 2 main characters were friends and one of them is like the body guard of the other or something like that. We have a problematic family here too, so there’s a lot of drama. One of the actor were great and the other not so much, and it was very evident in some scenes.
Where to watch: VIki.
Tumblr media
 5) Cutie Pie
Probably my first thai BL, and man...they don’t joke around. I really enjoyed, It’s a arranjed marrige situation, where the main character loves his fiancé, but the guy doesn’t really look like he wants to marry. And what I like the most is that the main character decides to break his engagement, bringing chaos to his world. It’s really funny, I laughed a lot, the couples are great, and I became a fan of Zee, he’s a great actor.
Where to watch: Viki, Youtube.
Tumblr media
6) HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count
Well, we have here a complicated situation. It’s a high school romance, the nerdy guy and the school’s good-for-nothing. It’s a beautiful romance and everything, but to be honest... I hated the ending. Like, I just hate it so much. Some people might like it, but I’m not one of them. The positive point of the last episode is that the actor that does the main character is AMAZING, his acting is so touching, it made me cry. Another thing that I don’t like, I noticed that it happens a lot in tawainese drama, is the relationship between a teenager and a adult man. “ah, he is in his last year of school bla bla bla”, I don’t care, he’s a teen, and the other guy is like 30-35, it’s not right people. Ah, I amost forgot: the OST is INCREDIBLE, I got addicte to the opening song.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
7) Why R U?
I LOVED IT. Tutor and Fight are one of my favorite couples of this list, I loved the plot, even with all the problems. Aparently they were not the main characters, it would be Zon and Saifah, but I saw on internet that the had an issue with the pandemic and they had to change the plot. But it doesn’t matter because I loved all the couples. The story is hillarious, the couples had great chemestry, and I recomend you not to watch on the tv, because there’s a lot of mature scenes. Ah, Zee and Saint are here.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
8) TharnType and TharnType: 7 years of love + TharnType Special
MY FAVORITE DRAMA OF THE YEAR. I love TharnType. I know they have this problematic relationship, and they do a lot of wrong stuff to each other and that they’re not the best couple of the dramaland, but I love the characters, what can I do? I had fun, I laughed, I cried, I got angry, it’s a rollercoast of emotions. I understand who doesn’t like, but I enjoyed a lot. If you want to watch I have to say that the drama has a lot of triggers (ped0f****, h0m0f0bia, abusive relationship, r*p*), and I recomend you to look for it before watching. The first 4 episodes are terrible, they do all the wrong things, but latter it get’s so good. I can’t help it, I liked. Ah, I love the OST, it’s great.
Where to watch: Viki (1st and 2nd season), Bilibili (special).
Tumblr media
9) Love by chance
I watched this drama for 2 reasons: 1) they’re in the same universe of tharntype (the story happens in between the seasons 1 and 2), 2) Saint is the main character. Tbh, I don’t really liked the drama, I thought it was a bit boring. I know there’s a continuation, but I don’t really feel like watching.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
10) Why Women Love
This one is one of favorites of the year. The couple has a great chemestry, I loved how the relationship was developed. It’s a “noona drama” (the woman is older than the man), it’s a boss/worker relationship, but I don’t know if I can classify it like that, because he’s the heir of the company so... I really recomend this drama, the actress is amazing, and the ML is none other than Wang Zi Yi from Nine Percent!! (yes, the bg from idol produce s01).
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
11)  A Romance of the Little Forest
This drama is 50/50 for me. In a general way, I loved, I loved the main couple, I think they’re great. I am all for cientist that are make up bloggers and their high school crush. But the 2nd couple is horrible. I skipped basically all their scenes. The way their relationship was developed is just wrong in a legal way. Awful.
So this drama is a 5 stars for the main couple, and a 1 star for the 2nd couple.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
12)  Mr. Bad
I love the sinopses of this one, It’s about a girl that acidently makes a wish to get a boyfriend, and brings a character of her fanfiction to life. It’s a enemies to friends to lovers. I love the character development that happens here, the way the relationship changes, It’s f*cking great! You know, I literally screamed when they hold hands for the first time, It was that good. Althought the story has this magical setting, this is an office drama, but without all the fighting that we usually get. I liked basically everything but the ending, It was not bad, It’s just I don’t usually like that concept that they used to fix everything.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
13) Business Proposal
I think it’s one of the most popular dramas of 2022, It’s a very cliche story, I think everybody knows about it alredy. I liked, I had fun watching, I loved that it was only 12 episodes, I think the ritm was great. The main and 2nd couple were AMAZING, their chemestry was incredible.
Where to watch: Netflix (Brasil).
Tumblr media
14) My Sweet Dear
A really nice web drama, the episodes had 15 minutes each I think, it’s a cute story about two chiefs that are competing to be the main chief of the restaurant. The OST is GREAT, I got addicted.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
15) Roomates of Poongduck 304
It’s a ok drama, cute, the acting not so great, but a great way to pass time. I heard one of the actors, or both of them, will be on Boys Planet, I hope the do well there.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
16) Lovely Writer
Here we get back to the thai BL dramas world, I really enjoyed this drama. I think It’s a really down to earth drama. It’s about this guy that writes BL books, and one of them get to be adapted to tv, and in the casting day he meets this actor that is really atrative and really wants to meet him.
Where to watch: Youtube.
Tumblr media
17) 2gether/Still 2gether/ 2gether the movie
For like, 2 days I thought this drama would be my favorite drama of the year, but latter I got to watch more dramas and I think 2gether got at least in my top 10. I think this drama is perfect introdution for someone who never watched a BL drama. It’s cute, the actors have a great chemestry, we don’t have mature scenes, it’s a college drama. Ah, and it’s a fake dating! We don’t have a lot of kissing scenes, but I really like this sentimental vibe that the main characters show. I really recomend.
Where to watch: GMMTV Chanell on Youtube.
Tumblr media
18) Star in my mind
I enjoyed, I think it was a little bit overdramatic. It’s a college drama, where the main character was in love for this guy in high school, but he had to study abroad, so in his last day of school he confessed, and was rejected. Now in college, he participates on this talent show and have to share a room with his old crush. Everything in this drama happens because of misunderstandings, and we know this causes chaos.
Where to watch: GMMTV on Youtube.
Tumblr media
19) Sky in your heart
It’s the continuation of Star in My Mind, and we have the older brother of the main character of SIMM as the main character of SIYH. Yes, you have to watch it in order.
I loved this drama, really, I LOVED. I don’t really liked the brother in SIMM, but here with the ML, he’s great. The story happens in this vila where the MC and his friends go to do voluntier work, there he meets this teacher that gets his attention right when he arrives. I love the chemestry between the couple, it’s soo goooood. It’s a 10/10 for me.
Where to watch: GMMTV on Youtube.
Tumblr media
 20) Fish Upon The Sky
It’s very similar with SIMM, here we have this situation that the main character is in love with someone, but he has to dispute the love of this person with another. Sometimes is very dramatic, but the comedy is really good too. The mc’s brother is so fun, he’s the best in this show.
Where to watch: GMMTV on Youtube.
Tumblr media
21) 1000 Stars
People, you’re not ready for the greatness that this drama is. It’s so emotional, it’s so down to the earth, it’s so amazing and hearwarming. One of my favorites of the year.
The story is about this guy that recives a heart transplant from this teacher, and he decides to fullfill her last wish. So he goes to this village, and becames a teacher. There he learnings a lot of life lessons and etc. I really loved, It was a surprise for me. I loved the main couple, even if I got angry in a lot of scenes. It’s a 10/10.
Where to watch: GMMTV on Youtube.
Tumblr media
22) HIStory 3: Trapped
I was really worried with this one after “make our days count”, but I had a lot of fun. It’s a mafia drama, and yes we have the mafia stuff, but what I liked the most was the comedy, I laughed a lot here. I think the couples were great, even with all the weird moments.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
23) Theory of Love
It’s a friends to lovers story, but with a very complicated development. For like 70% of the drama, I hated the ML, but the drama had this very smart idea in the half season that got me to like the couple more. I really liked the other couples, one of them made me really surprised. I recomend this one, but get ready to be angry.
Where to watch: GMMTV on Youtube.
Tumblr media
24) Since I met U
Short c-drama with 16 episodes, each with 30 min, which tells the story of a pastry chef and a blogger who talks about sweets who are forced to take care of a child together. I thought it was ok, it's not a surprising story, it's that show you watch at lunchtime, you know? Lightweight, without many problems. I think it’s kind forgettable too.
Where to watch: Youtube.
Tumblr media
25) En of Love: Love Mechanics
It’s a short drama, with 4/5 episodes I think, about two guys that hate each other, but one day they got drunk and sleep togheter. The problem is that one of them is dating a girl for years, and has no intention to break up with her. I should had watch Tossara first, because this is a continuation BUT the sinopses was so interesting that I couldn’t help. I really liked, we have a lot of problematics stuff, but in the end I enjoyed. After I finished, I found out that this drama has a 12 episode version that released in 2022, so I obviosly watched.
Where to Watch: Viki, Youtube.
Tumblr media
26) Love Mechanics
It’s the longer version of En of Love, I’m so happy that they made this version. It’s really good and they fix a lot of plot holes that we had in the en of love version. I highly recomend you to watch this version if it’s possible. The chemestry of the main couple is 10/10.
Tumblr media
27) My Love Mix Up
It's a really cute Japanese BL, adapted from a manga. This drama is a misunderstanding that became a reality. It's so fun, cute, soft jdrama. I really recommend.
Where to watch: Viki.
Tumblr media
28) Ghost Host, Ghost House
I thought it would be about a "ghost hunter" blogger or something like that, the main character says he is a ghost hunter, but he's just tells stories about ghosts. And the plot does not even focus on him, it focus on his family. I don't want to give spoilers, but It surprised me a lot. The romance is very nice, but the family part is great.
Tumblr media
Dramas that I have yet to finish: Today’s webtoom, Bad Buddy
Dramas that I gave up watching:  Oh! Boarding House (It’s really bad)

Hai friend, I recently installed webtoon app to read l*re olympus because of its hype, but i hate it now. Do you have any ideas or recomendations of good webtoon comics? There is too many and I can't decide
Hey! Webtoon is a great place to find free comics! Honestly, I love it so much. I've read a few comics and I'll list my favorite ones :D
Lookism - I think this is my favorite of all. The art is honestly so fucking amazing!! A short, fat boy who gets bullied one day wakes up in a handsome athletic body and realises he can switch between his old and new bodies. The story develops into something deeper, the characters are so developed, with amazing back stories. I honestly love this comic.
UnOrdinary - It's set in a world where humans are born with some kind of power. This story revolves around a middle school kid who is actually very powerful, but acts like a cripple because he's afraid of the lack of control on himself. I LOVE the characters SO MUCH!
True beauty - I like the story, it's about an ordinary girl using make up to look very beautiful, and two very handsome and good guys end up having a crush on her. It's kinda cliche, I'm not a big fan of heterosexual romance (nothing against it, I've just read tooo many of them) but the ART holy eff!! The art is so GOOD AAAHH!
Heir's game - A prince hosts a contest to select his body guard. He gets a crush on one of the participants, but the prince's dad is homophobic. The story has not unfolded completely, but it seems like it's not only about romance. There's a lot of adventure, fighting stuff too.
Lost in translation - it's drama. A guy in a singing band facing the troubles of being a celebrity. Tbh I'm usually not at all interested in this genre, but the art style got my attention. It's beautiful. The story has also started to get appeal in my eyes. (There are also hints of homoerotism)
The king in the sun - this is murder mystery. Though it is BL, author has said that romance will not be the main focus. It doesn't update regularly, but I think it's worth the wait :)
Novae: the ARTTTT OMG!! The art is so peaceful and so beautiful 😍 it's about a necromancer and an astronomist falling in love, set in 1600's (I guess? Or is it 1800's?)

Top 10 Best BLs on YouTube
These BLs are gonna be easiest to get hold of, but also dominated by Thailand.
Tumblr media
Until We Meet Again
Thai 2019
UWMA is, without question, a work of narrative genius with a powerful and cohesive romantic backbone and stellar performances. It is (to date) the only Thai BL (of c.300 watched) that I’ve rated 10/10 predominantly on the basis of its story structure. That said it is also very well cast (and it’s a BIG cast), with solid production values, beautiful food, powerful themes, and enduring pair branding.
Tumblr media
He's Coming to Me
Thai 2019
Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence.
Tumblr media
A Tale of Thousand Stars
Thai 2021
With great casting and cinematography this drama nods at BL tropes but manages to elevate them (and itself) with a strong mature story concept about a spoiled rich kid who gets a heart transplant and becomes a teacher it order to pay out survivor’s guilt. On the way he falls in love with a local park ranger and contends with his own classism and escapist tendencies. Everyone seemed to perfectly suit their roles and GMMTV made the most out of its stable. Combined with excellent production (and post production) values, 1000 Stars is without question GMMTV’s most mature, charming, and smart BL series. I think it should go down as one of the top BLs of all time. I feel safe recommending this one to friends and non BL watchers.
Tumblr media
My School President
Thai 2023
GMMTV gave us a classic high school set Thai BL with tropes like messy boys singing their feelings that made this one Love Sick for the modern age with all the gentle sweetness and pining ache, but none of the dated damaging tropes or issues. Yes, we’ve seen it all before, but I still ADORED this. And there is a lot to be said for the classics being re-executed perfectly. Who let my BL be this wholesome and funny? This show was fantastic, it’s only flaw was the singing (and that’s my baggage). My favourite GMMTV BL offering to date. And yes, I've watched them ALL.
Tumblr media
The Sign
Thai 2024
This show is literally everything (except straight) all at once. It's BL, queer, band of brothers, romcom, erotica, PNR, fated mates, police procedural, fantasy, mystery, suspense, and slasher. It’s the king of genre mash-up chaos. Sure, it's madness but there is genius in it. Was it a crazy unhinged mess +1 roll for damage? Yes. Yes it was. Did it manage to hold all those tangled threads together? No it did not. Was it also a charming, sexy, engaging, non-stop piece of entertainment? Sure thing. I think this show is basically my KinnPorsche, and frankly I’ve been chasing that dragon naga since KP aired. Is it perfect? No. But it is balls to the wall FUN.
Emphasis on balls.
Tumblr media
Bad Buddy
Thai 2022
This was GMMTV’s flagship BL and it started 2022 on a BANG (okay no actual banging but you know what I mean), starring heavy hitters Ohm & Nanon in a pitch perfect university Romeo & Romeo masterpiece that will give you domesticity meets pain whiplash throughout and jet lag at the end. Some of the friendship and family dynamics are overworked, but it has great production values, killer acting, and some conscious effort to correct for half a decade of Thai BL’s anti-queer mistakes. I did a watch along for this one.
Tumblr media
Oxygen
Thai 2020
Softest seme in the universe sings his affection to the older boy at the cafe. Let the slow burn courting commence. Oxygen uses every BL trope in the playbook for one of the gentlest lowest angst BLs ever made. It’s a hyung romance (younger boy courts older boy) but very very earnest about it. Am I biased? Sure. This is probably one of my biggest comfort watches.
Tumblr media
Lovely Writer
Thai 2021
Thailand criticizes itself and the BL industry while simultaneously giving us classic seme/uke with great chemistry in a one-two punch of “we love it, but are we supposed to? and must we think this hard, yet enjoy it SO MUCH?” This show won’t appeal or make sense to those who don’t already have at least some Thai BL watching experience. What Lovely Writer does, at heart, is reexamine Thai BL has done to queerness, but in a very gentle way that has more to do with Thai BL growing up than any actual queer authenticity. It’s not parody or pastiche, but it is self reflective and trying to correct for some chronic mistakes. Whether it is ultimately successful in this matter is going to depend on the watcher’s relationship to BL and queer identity. But that’s what makes this show beautiful, interesting, and thought provoking. And I, for one, applaud the effort even if I didn’t personally connect to all the characters.

Not Me
Thai 2022
How do you say antidisestablishmentarianism in Thai? + hot boys kissing who probably shouldn't be and convoluted soap opera identical twins plot... someone at GMMTV thought it made sense, we just here for the tattoos and the the Pride scene.
Okay so, GMMTV gave us a dark disestablishment narrative (in a time of civil unrest) with established queer award-winning director Anucha and starring the biggest guns of BL, OffGun and THIS WAS AN AMAZING THING to get to experience at the time - nerve racking but remarkable. But was it ACTUALLY BL? It certainly has a lot of BL elements, but in the end romance was not what this show was about, or even what it was genuinely trying to be as a performance piece. Still a remarkable moment in Thai cinema, certainly worth your time. Don’t worry, it all ends happily.

My Day
Pinoy 2020
The set up on this one is enemies (also boss/employee) and they don’t like each other to start. But that gets resolved pretty quickly. And then they are some of the cutest, hottest, and best boyfriends ever. This is an under-appreciated BL, IMHO.
Honorable Mention
Tumblr media
A First Love Story
Korea 2021
Strongberry are true masters of their craft and yet A First Love Story is still one of the best things they have ever produced. It’s the only microfilm every to make one of my year end top ten list. It’s two episodes of about 8 minutes each that manage to perfectly portray the sweetest friends-to-lovers confession ever. It’s joyful, and gentle with its characters, and a little hot. How on earth do they manage to leave us yearning for more yet completely satisfied at the same time? It’s like the perfect amuse-bouche, that one finger food at that one cocktail party that you will never forget. You are a ridiculous human if you haven’t spent 16 minutes with these two boys. Go watch it now. Or go watch it again. It’s time VERY well spent.

This list updated Spring 2024, not responsible for cool stuff that aired on YouTube (or was taken off the platform) after that date.
Others in this series:
GMMTV seems to have cut a deal to move some of there prestige content from YT to Viki, and launch some on iQIYI. I respect this choice from a profit margin perspective. But the show can be suddenly available nowhere for several months as a result. FYI

Hey ABL. Just sent my doctorate for examination and for the first time since 2019 I have WAY too much time on hands. Can you suggest some binge watches? Got into bl last Feb so stuff before that would be great. Warmly, M
CONGRATZ!!!
10 Older BLs Worthy of a Binge Watch!
(in no particular order, prior to 2022)
Tumblr media
1 Seven Days: Monday-Thursday & Seven Days: Friday-Sunday
Japan 2015 (grey)
Never doubt my ability to recommend this show. One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL). The leads have excellent chemistry although it’s low heat there’s still some really cute mutual kisses.
Tumblr media
2 To My Star
Korea 2021 (Viki)
In the mood for something more grown up? TMS is a touch quirky to get into, but utterly charming once it hits its stride. This is the ultimate grumpy/sunshine pairing plus the most appealing light-filled kitchen of our dreams.
I don't like season 2 but others do. It is very clever.
Tumblr media
3 We Best Love: No. 1 For You & Fighting Mr. 2nd
Taiwan 2021 (WeTV)
How about a uni + office BL? Brilliant acting saved this show from a messy (pretty classically manga) narrative with a lot of angst. You have to buy in to a yaoi aesthetic with this one, accept that things move fast and occasionally confuse, but that everything will be okay. It’s the ultimate pining seme meets the ultimate tsundere uke. WBL successfully manages to combine the best elements of Korean, Thai, and Japanese BL as it exists right now. Couple that to the insane chemistry from the leads, and we have one of the greatest BLs of all time, cooking higher heat to a recipe I doubt anyone else will ever be able to replicate since only Taiwan is this flexible.
Tumblr media
4 He's Coming to Me
Thailand 2019 (YouTube)
With only 8 8 eps and from GMMTV this is short, high quality and bingable for Thailand. Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence in all BL. The third in my precious triumvirate of unbeatable Thai BLs, that are only nominally BL because the story, acting, and production values are so good.
(Together with Until We Meet Again & A Tale of Thousand Stars - those 2 are longer so I don't consider them as bingable, but if you want something to get really stuck into? Go to town.).
Tumblr media
5 Color Rush
Korea 2021 (Viki)
A unique paranormal twist elevates this classic high school drama into a pitch-perfect allegory for the queer coming out experience and one of the best BLs of all time (I will fight you on this). Here's my battle essay.
Original trigger.
(Don't bother with season 2.)
Tumblr media
6 HIStory 2: Crossing the Line
Taiwan 2018 (Viki)
Lin Pei Yu directs this sports romance (volleyball) with a good boy/bad boy pairing, and my hands-down favorite of the HIStory franchise. There is no clear seme/uke. Ostensibly it's high school set but Taiwan doesn't care about age appropriate actors. It's a very soft sweet romance with some ridiculously easily overcome conflict. There's great kisses but it's medium heat. The side dishes are the stepbrother trope but they’re very tame, and there’s no other triggers. It's not just my favorite of the franchise, it’s one of my favorite BLs with a perfect happy ending.
(The second H2 is also pretty good.)
Tumblr media
7 Cherry Magic
30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii AKA Cheri Maho
Japan 2020 (indie subs)
The sweetest fluffiest magical realism BL, packaged as a pinning office romance, very low heat (practically chaste) but the cutest. It’s truly great.
Tumblr media
8 Light On Me
Korea 2021 (Viki)
Korea does an elegant pastiche of traditional live action yaoi but all tropes are cleverly deployed to bolster one of the most riveting love triangles ever put on screen… and I don’t like love triangles. LoM strategically tailors classic BL tropes to 2 different semes resulting in pristine pacing, plot, and character development, explicitly serving narrative (not just to tick boxes). LoM is a master class in trope drops. (If you write fanfic or romance you should study this show.) Full review.
Tumblr media
9 Be Loved In House: I Do
Taiwan 2021 Viki
A cute classy office set BL with a few plot raised eyebrows, but no other concerns. ALL THE TROPES plus a general sweet softness that’s pretty rare from Taiwan, who usually prefer to go hard, but all their signature domesticity.
Tumblr media
10 Lovely Writer
Thailand 2021 (YouTube)
Thailand criticizes itself and the BL industry while simultaneously giving us classic seme/uke with great chemistry in a one-two punch of “we love it, but are we supposed to? and must we think this hard, yet enjoy it SO MUCH?” This show won’t appeal or make sense to those who don’t already have at least some Thai BL watching experience. What's good on iQiyi? Now that KP is done I'm ditching the subscription but also watched Blueming and Gen Y. It doesn't have to be BL, I'll even take a noona romance. Bad and crazy is also on my list
What’s good on iQIYI?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So you names the heavy hitters: KinnPorsche and (more important to me) Blueming.
I haven't watched a ton on this platform, but here's a few:
You don't name it so ABSOLUTELY watch Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Your Soul. I like this BL A LOT and this is the only place to find it. Review here.
Until We Meet Again - if you don’t want to watch it elsewhere. This is my favorite Thai BL of all time. (It’s also on YouTube and Viki.)
Love By Chance - if you don’t want to watch it elsewhere. I consider this mandatory BL viewing. Everyone should see it. (It’s also on YouTube and Viki.)
En of Love - perhaps less mandatory but still decent, especially the YinWar Ep. The first big example of Thailand’s “sampler pack” style BL.
7 Project, I don’t really like any of these all that much, but if you really like some of the pairs it might be worth watching. SantaEarths is okay, the GL one is cute but has a terrible ending, BounPrem’s is rough going, BoomPeak’s has no kissing (this is my shocked face) but was the best of the lot. I didn’t watch the het ones.
Even Sun (airing) if you like BounPrem, but I'm not into it.
Check Out (airing) if you like high heat, but I'm not into it. (That said if you like the main pair they also have their first BL Skinship on this platform. That’s a long form advert, like Ingredients, tho.)
Tumblr media
NOT BL
My Dear Guardian - yet another take on Decedents of the Sun (I love a soldier/healer pairing)
Sweet Teeth - honestly I have no idea why I liked this one, but I did.
She Would Never Know - Noona but not my favorite, also I think Netflix has it now. Only worth watching if you, like me, are a Rowoon completest.
Romantic Blue - If you want to see Ohm act without Fluke.
Ones I have on My List, but haven't watched yet
Bad & Crazy - it's so hard to find and so many people talked about it when I aired I feel like I should watch it.
Ten Years Late
See You Tomorrow
Romantic Blues
Love Scenery
I am decidedly not a connoisseur of cdramas (I rarely watch their historicals because HOLY 50 eps batman!) so maybe others can weigh in with the important ones to watch on this platform. That’s where iQIYI’s strength lies... if you can call it that.
Also remember, I’m USA based, so we might not have access to the same content.

Hello! I am looking for a few good bl to binge!
As a gay man myself, I really like it to have truly good chemistry...some bls I watch the chemistry is ZERO and then there is not a good plotline to back it up either.
I like cute stuff...I like dark stuff...
I really liked Cherry Magic, Manner of Death, KinnPorsche, Kieta Hatsukoi, Seven Days (my first and favourite bl) , The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese (that one hurt tho).
Any recomendations?
Hello!!! (I feel you on Cornered Mouse) and I am so happy to find another Seven Days stan.
10 GREAT Chemistry BLs to Binge right NOW!
For the gays who can sniff a fake a mile away. I notice a decided lack of Taiwan on your list. Is that intentional? Do you not like their style? You're probubly right to avoid Korea. Still a few show up on my list but let’s start with...
JAPAN
Tumblr media
1. Old Fashion Cupcake (2022 - Viki)
It’s about a younger man with a long cherished crush on his boss (ten years older and going through a mid life crisis) who decides to save and seduce said boss with pancakes. It’s wholesome, comforting, sexy, and a very necessary narrative about still having hope, interests, and openness to affection at any age. It’s coming of age/queerness packaged in a subtle critique of expectations around masculinity and love and loneliness... and it’s beautiful. Full review.
Seriously GO WATCH IT, thank me later.
Tumblr media
2. My Beautiful Man AKA Utsukushii Kare (2021 - GaGa)
You said you didn't mind a little dark, trust me on this one: the weird obsessive stalker angst will absolutely be resolved in the best way possible. You liked Seven Days so you don’t mind some traditional yaoi nonsense. This BL has the single greatest final episode of any I have seen since... honestly I can't remember when. It's brilliant.
One of the most Japanese BLs to release in the last decade, as weird and as messed up as any 2000′s yaoi: emo af and hella warped, entirely true to itself with no attempt made to modify its POV for modern sensibilities or current BL fandom. Full review of me losing my mind.
This show won the Grand Prix “My Best TV Award” at the 16th Galaxy Awards.
TAIWAN
Okay so the problem with the Taiwanese stuff, in general, is not chemistry but story. They are all over the place with story. And they can go very very VERY sappy.
Tumblr media
3. We Best Love 1 (No. 1 For You) & 2 (Fighting Mr. 2nd) (2021 - WeTV)
Like Seven Days I think the two parts exist together and should be watched as a pair. Unfortunately, to do so legally you need to join WeTV. I am considering doing this just to gank a clean copy of season 2, but... that’s neither here no there. You can watch season 1 for free in most territories, but you’ll need to go grey for 2 and 2 has some of the best acting and best chemistry I have EVER seen in a BL. It’s is brilliant. It’s all the leads though.  SamYu are magic, you can see why the internet lost its collective mind over them.
Tumblr media
4. Be Loved In House: I Do (2021 Viki)
A cute classy office set BL with a few plot raised eyebrows, but no other concerns. ALL THE TROPES plus a general sweet softness that’s pretty rare from Taiwan, who usually prefer to go hard.
Tumblr media
5. DNA Says Love You (2022 GaGa)
An under appreciated gem. It’s a bit challenging to suffer through the paranormal investigators plot line, but at least it HAS a plot? When Amber enters the narrative he is so luminous it’s hard to tear your eyes away and the chemistry is on point with both couples (one LTR, one just starting out). DNA deserves extra marks for an upbeat approach to a queer story arc that other shows have systemically mishandled with sadness (in the guise of realism). There is a twist, which I found predictable, but knowing what would happen didn't spoil this show. The leads are engaging, and it’s full of queer found family representation and an unexpected amount of domesticity, plus it’s Taiwan, so the kisses are great. The last few eps really are special and life/love affirming - and the ending is big-grin charming. Full review.
Tumblr media
6. HIStory 2: Crossing the Line (2018 Viki)
Taiwan’s best example of classic BL with a sports romance foundation using some of the most prototypical (but fortunately least offensive) yaoi tropes. One of my first and still favorites from Taiwan. Kinda like the Seven Days of Taiwanese BL, everything is on point and very yaoi. (You might consider the companion piece too, Right or Wrong. It’s rougher going but very formative for BL + marriage equality.)
Tumblr media
7. HIStory 3: Trapped (2019 Viki)
If you don’t mind a bit of a shaky ending, everything else about this show is good. It has great plot, fantastic characters, and really excellent chemistry form both couples. Also FINE arse suits. If you liked KinnPorsche and want more Mafia BL with high heat it’s this one, Long Time No See, and Manner of Death.
Basically this is the definition of enemies to lovers. This is a cop + the mafia man he is chasing but WAIT: they fall in love. Added bonus side couple = assassin and nerd cop ALSO falling in love. It’s great. All the leads are stellar. Its high heat, fun action, and a bit of a mystery drama but pretty about all of it. My only warning is that the main couple doesn’t entirely end up together, it’s implied, but... amorphous ending.
KOREA
Tumblr media
8. Semantic Error (2022 Viki)
You might give this one a try. For Korea it’s some of the best chemistry the traditional studios have managed. And it is flawless BL. Truly, perfection for the genre. Korea hit it entirely out of the Parks with Semantic Error by doing a university set BL featuring everything we expect from BL just done exactly right. It has Korea's signature quality executed perfectly, and added bonus good story, great pacing, stunning visuals, and fantastic chemistry. You cannot ask for more from a BL, let alone a KBL. Full review.
Tumblr media
9. To My Star (2021 Viki)
It’s is a touch quirky to get into, but utterly charming once it hits its stride. This is the ultimate grumpy/sunshine pairing plus the most appealing light-filled kitchen of our dreams. If you can wade through the dead fish kisses there is massive pay out at the end. There is a second season of PAIN, but it has more great chemistry. Up to you if you wanna wade in, but if you don’t mind messy.... (Full review includes my reservations about season 2.)
Tumblr media
10. Some More (2018 GaGa)
My last pick from Korea, this one is a Strongberry short, and it is SO very gay. About a city boy on a bike tour who gets injured and rescued by a taciturn, but (as it turns out) quite gay, farmer. Age gap, country mouse/city mouse, SO CUTE. Just too short.
Some other ones that are a bit more... complex?
These will be chewy and more work to watch, like Cornered Mouse.
Long Time No See (2017 Strongberry GaGa)  - One of Strongberry’s few longer pieces and I don’t think this is strictly BL. It’s about assassins on either side of a terf war who fall in love not knowing they are on opposite sides. Or do they? Good fight sequences, mature characters, high heat, very suspenseful, AND an HEA. If you like KinnPorsche you will LOVE this show.
Blueming (2022 iQIyI) - It’s a tiny bit dark and a tiny bit bittersweet, almost too honest to a university experience and first love for BL. I wasn’t into it at first, but the leads are solid and by ep 5 it got really good, becoming a narrative about self discovery meets understanding and accepting others people’s flaws without hurting them. Ultimately we witnessed two characters maturing because of each other and their mutual affection, without that affection becoming the conflict point. Instead, tension was built around other aspects of identity, popularity, and self-worth. While production values were a touch lower than usual for Korea, Blueming included decent kisses and other forms of intimacy and a satisfying ending plus there’s judicious and very elegant use of tropes, (which is expected for Korea).
HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count AKA The BL That Shall Not Be Named) (2019 Viki) - Some of the best BL and best chemistry ever put on screen. Up until they move into together. Seriously, the moment they do, stop watching. Save yourself.
Plus and Minus (2022 Viki) - There is something off bout this show that I can’t put my finger on. I liked it but... the separation is forced and it could have ben a lot shorter. Chemistry is good though. It’s about codependent besties of 20 years finding their way into a romantic relationship. A bit cheesy, with lots of domesticity and occasional dumb drama. (But gay boys and chaos bis? What can ya do?) It’s not groundbreaking but it is a solid sweet unassuming little show of a style that is perhaps a bit more Thai than it is Taiwanese but I’m okay with that.
His the movie (2020 Viki) - His is about being a grown adult and still struggling with coming out as gay. It addresses the consequences of life choices disingenuous to identity. Nagisa turns up on Shun’s doorstep with his precocious daughter in tow. This is a touch confusing to Shun since they were each others first love. Shun has retreated from society, rejecting the world before it can reject him, already brokenhearted because without Nagisa he never had a reason to fight. Nagisa went the opposite way, tried to pretend to be something he was not and ended up with a daughter he adores and a wife who hates him. This movie is beautiful and the setting is unique and interesting but I'm not wild about the ending. Moody arthouse smackdoodle is going to pretend that "ambiguous" is somehow unique and special rather than bog standard commonplace for narratives of this type. Honestly, I think I mostly liked this because I have a mad crush on Miyazawa Hio (Shun).
The Pornographer series, specifically the first one AKA The Novelist. (2018 Viki maybe) - emotional manipulation, cheating, obsession, seduction, May/December (age gap AKA younger/older), kink, touch of necrophilia, and explicit. It’s your party you cna watch if you wanna.
Tumblr media
Okay, what about Thailand?
You don’t name many from Thailand (Just KP & MoD) which is the juggernaut  of BL and this is... telling.
Thailand can excel at chemistry, but since they are pretty married to seme/uke they aren’t very “actually” gay. If you know what I mean? Also there is a common thread, especially with the pulps, where side couples have more and better chemistry than the leads.
That said here are a few Thai BLs with great lead pairs that you might try...
Bad Buddy (2022 YouTube) - I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this one. Full review.
Dark Blue Kiss (2019 YouTube) - this one is a buy in to get familiar with the characters (I have a  how to watch guide here). But PeteKao are worth it. They are an LTR, but it’s on point. This is classic Thai BL with a university setting, great acting and complex characters, one of my favorite friendship groups, friends to enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers, multiple angsty af coming outs, including a long stretch of a secret relationship. High production values, good chemistry, BL side couple, not much queer rep, but lots of classic tropes and some great domesticity.
Dear Doctor, I’m Coming For Your Soul (2022 iQIYI) - This is a romance between a doctor trying to save his patients and a reaper who is both his enemy and (eventual) lover. Basically it’s the genius premise of a gay Doom at Your Service. High concept looks good on you, Thailand. It’s lovely to see KarnNat back on screen together and they are still great, and Karn is just painfully beautiful. Full review.
Love By Chance (2018 YouTube & Viki) - of all the ones I put on this list I dithered over this one the most. The physical chemistry is a little off but the emotional and romantic thread between these two is truly remarkable. And if you think of Ae as Demi, it works. I love these two so much, I might not be sufficiently objective though. (MAME warning) AePete’s meet cute is one of the best ever put on screen. They are just so genuine and soft with each other, it’s hard not to love them from the first moment. Many of the side couples are... difficult, but you can’t fault the leads. They will remain in your heart a really long time. Now there is some abusive ex action, but it’s victoriously dealt with by our tiny crass love muffin hero.
Lovely Writer (2021 YouTube) - Thailand criticizes itself and the BL industry while simultaneously giving us classic seme/uke with great chemistry in a one-two punch of “we love it, but are we supposed to? and must we think this hard, yet enjoy it SO MUCH?“ This show won’t appeal or make sense to those who don’t already have at least some Thai BL watching experience. What Lovely Writer does, at heart, is reexamine Thai BL has done to queerness, but in a very gentle way that has more to do with Thai BL growing up than any actual queer authenticity. It’s not parody or pastiche, but it is critical and self reflective and trying to correct for some chronic mistakes. Whether it is ultimately successful in this matter is going to depend on the watcher’s relationship to BL and queer identity. But that’s what makes this show beautiful, interesting, and thought provoking. And I, for one, applaud the effort even if I didn’t personally connect to the characters.
Not Me (2022 YouTube) - GMMTV gave us a dark disestablishment narrative (in a time of civil unrest) with established queer award-winning director Anucha and starring the biggest guns of BL OffGun. THIS IS AN AMAZING THING to get to experience in the BL world - nerve racking but remarkable. But was it ACTUALLY BL? It certainly a lot of BL elements, but in the end that’s not what the show was about, or even what it was genuinely trying to be as a performance piece. Still an amazing moment in Thai cinema, certainly worth your time. Don’t worry, it all ends happily. Full review. How good is OffGun’s chemistry, really? I have questions. But you still might like it. (OffGun & The Evolution of Chemistry for a BL Pair)
6 Thai BLs you suffer through ONLY for the chemistry
Seriously not a lot else to recommend these, but they are master classes in pretty boys kissing. Linked to my reviews when possible. These are mostly on YouTube.
Cutie Pie
Love Mechanics (either version)
Love Stage!!! (the THAI VERSION)
Secret Crush On You
Why R U?
TharnType - honestly this is the beginning of it all, so far as chemistry in Thai BL is concerned. If you want to know how KinnPorsche could even exist in this world, blame the success of this BL and MewGulf in particular.
I’m not putting any VBL on this list because  the stories are just so incomprehensibly bad, but if you want to try one, do Mr Cinderella.
So far as Pinoy BL is concerned, My Day is AMAZING on chemistry but also bonkers and very difficult to get hold of these days.
