Blackavar fanart. I gave him a short beard, crooked whiskers, and bedraggled fur to portray his tired and fearful nature as a character. He’s a bit sad as well, surely the poor guy has seen better days.

So Watership Down 1978...WTF?
Tumblr media
It's not a secret that children's' films circa the 80s are sometimes violent and have themes that make us question how in the hell they were greenlit while looking through the lens of today's standards.
But there's a scene in Watership Down 1978 that I really wonder about. It goes as follows:
Our intrepid rabbits are a few days into their journey, having fled their home warren. The scene opens with them all asleep sheltered among beanstalks(?). One of the rabbits in the group wakes up and ventures out of the shelter of the garden in order to forage for food. While she's out in the open, Fiver wakes up and watches her...and suddenly this rabbit is just fucking snatched by a hawk. Fiver is so stunned by sudden death of his friend that he just sits there and stares until the rest of the rabbits wake up and join him, at which point he says in this forlorn voice, "Violet's gone."
...
Sad.
But this scene isn't in the book. Moreover, there is not even a character named Violet in the book. She doesn't even really do much as a character before her death and the only reason we know her name is Fiver's dialogue after she was killed.
So...why was this included?
This scene is 100% the product of the film and since they don't really linger on the death, it seems completely pointless aside from existing to disturb the audience.
Tumblr media
I also want to point out the character Blackavar dies a pretty brutal death in the movie, but he doesn't die in the book. He even appears in the sequel Tales from Watership Down.
Again...why?
...
There's keeping true with adaptations and there's adding or subtracting stuff from the source material for more condensed storytelling, but making up a character just to kill them off and killing off a character who doesn't actually die in the book...just seems so unnecessarily mean-spirited.
So Watership Down 1978...WTF?

Well this was my attempt at the idea I had for Drawing Gajinka of everyone's favourite pairing of Captain Caviar Cookie and Black Pearl Cookie. I had 3 major disadvantages. 1- I have never read a Harlequin Romance novel in my Life so the only idea I could come up with is "Puffy White Shirt and tight leather pants" for the Good Captain
2- Whatever research I found with Harelquin Romance novels the poses and images looked REALLY BORING. Seriously lots of Mermaids, lots of Sailors but no combo images?! Anyway I just winged it. 3- In case it isn't obvious compaired to a lot of really brilliant artists on tumblr I'm not really that good. So while I'm proud that it looks great with what I got I didn't totally 100% get that gloriously cheesy slutty Romance image I had in my head. Oh well.
This was fun though, for the Blackaviar fans out there give it a try yourself, if nothing else for the mental image of the two badasses screeching in horrified embarassment, that's what kept me going.

Finally, after actually reading the Watership Down book, I feel that I can post this drawing, whose sketch I started roughly around the same time I joined the fandom 4 years or so ago-
Hazel reassuringly grooming a wounded and mistreated Blackavar back at Watership Down. I really like their designs from the 1999 TV series (outside of their anatomy), so I drew them in a similar style. I know Blackavar in that series isn't physically tortured in Efrafa, but I stayed close to the book canon. (Also it's horribly unfair how Blackavar got killed in the movie...)

As it stands right now, here’s my complete Watership Down plush collection! ♥️ In the top photo is my complete set of Chad Valley plushes from the release of the 1978 film. If you think you’ve seen that picture before, you probably have. I lifted it from my old account @soldierblackavar which I cannot access. Ah well.. the three rabbits (Hazel, Fiver, Blackberry) were purchased on Facebook through another collector who just happened to have doubles of all the rabbits. I bought Kehaar on eBay UK. I have a friend that lives over there, who served as a proxy to help me get him, as the seller wouldn’t ship to me. I adore all of them! In the bottom photo is a custom plush of Blackavar, also from the 1978 film! Blackavar is my favorite character, in ANY adaption. I absolutely had to have a plush of him. He was made by carolyns_plushies on Instagram. Eventually I hope to commission her for a larger floppy plush of Blackavar as well, and also a plush of Bigwig in the same position and size as the Blackavar plush shown here. I love all my Chad Valley WSD plushes dearly, but Blackavar is my absolute favorite in my collection. These guys are the greatest. I love them heaps. ♥️

OC Kiss Week - Day 4 Lost
Golmore Jungle is a dangerous place for a child to explore on their own, moreso when they can't find their way home.
Very brain empty tonight, so it's concepts only, but please enjoy this sad, wet child.
