Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 18
Okay, it seriously took me like 2 hours to watch this 23 minute episode. The website just kept buffering and buffering and buffering while I died inside. As far as I can tell, there's no legal way to watch the Japanese version of this show and it's driving me nuts (I can get the dub via Hulu).
Technical difficulties aside, I didn't really like this one. It was mainly another "Miyako is having doubts" episode. I'm all for characters with emotional turmoil, but for some reason I find these Miyako episodes forced. Maybe it's because she usually seems fine unless the episode is focused on her? I dunno, something about it feels off to me.
Notes:
-I liked seeing Koushiro and Iori together with their digis at the beginning of the episode. Definitely my fave mentor-newbie combo (it's cute that Iori gets Koushiro and Joe).
-Speaking of mentors, does Sora just not have a mentee? Awkwaaaaard...(They never did know what to do with her).
-The shot of the kids trying to act natural was hilarious, but the dead-eyed Digimon pretending to be plushies was kinda horrifying. How are they doing that!?
-The way that Miyako's stress manifested in a weird manic episode was...interesting. I guess I can kinda see what they were going for (she's desperate to be useful).
-That was pretty savage when they just ditched Daisuke's sister with her eyes closed like that. Like, damn. That's gonna leave a mark.
-Were there always backpacks in the "entering the digi-world sequence" or did they add that in for their extended journey? Kinda weird how the bags just float to the side of the characters, but I guess it would have been easier to animate that way.
-Got irritated at that weird bit of animation where Miyako is nodding and smiling for like 3 minutes straight. I get that it's part of her nervous breakdown, but it looked really strange...
-At the end of the episode Hikari apologizes for "offending" Miyako, but like...what did she even say!? She said something like "we'll need a lot of determination for this!" and IDK why that would affect Miyako so much. In the dub they just cut this bit entirely. Probably because it made no sense lol.
-So they reveal at the end of the episode that Ken is building his own digimon which feels very Jurassic Park of them (or was that Jurassic World...) I guess technically we've seen synthetic digimon before with Machinedramon, but guessing this will be more of an organic Frankenstein, so that should be interesting.

The worst thing about murder mystery dramas is the extensive ' let's brutalized women on screen and call it art' section and blind is reallyyyyyy not winning points here for that

I've always been curious to know this about the people around me. Most people have been in severe pain, but in my experience few have had what they would say is their 10/10 experience. I guess it's just something I find fascinating, as I had my 10/10 experience quite young and I sometimes forget that not everyone has. In my opinion it changes your relationship with pain and how you engage with it afterwards. If you answered yes, feel free to elaborate on your circumstances in the tags!

Imagine you are Lady Jessica. You’re bred and trained all your life to help create the prophesied “savior” of the world. In a mix of your own pride and love for the child’s father, you bear that savior. But it’s too early. Those who trained you say he is not the one. And because of it he’s in danger. You then must travel to a place that only wants to kill you, and nearly succeeds in the process. The only way to live, the only way your son lives, is to ensure that the prophecy becomes true. That your son really is that savior. So you do, you make it true, because it has to be true. You force fate. He doesn’t die. Hundreds die. Then thousands. Now millions. Your son is not only alive, but the emperor of the known universe. Worshiped like a god because you made him a god, and did it so well you convinced yourself of his divinity, his prophecy. He is near mad with every possible future laid before him, regrets and blood stain his hands. But he is alive. Wasn’t it all worth it? Was it?

Been wanting to draw some fanart for Poor George MAP since it's my favorite one, and because it was its anniversary recently, I finally did it :>
ID: A digital drawing in two panels with characters from Warriors. In the panel above, there's Yellowfang watching Brokenkit play with a moss ball, she looks endearingly at the little kit; they're in a green environment and plants surround them. In the panel below, Yellowfang is in the same possition, looking down at an adult Brokenstar at her feet, already dead, she looks sorrowful. Fireheart is by her side, looking at her with compassion. They're at ThunderClan's medicine den.

Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 26
I felt like this episode was a little too exposition dump-y for my liking. I had trouble focusing and had to rewind several times when I missed what they said. Yeah, the jogress digivolution was pretty hype, but it's also really ugly so...mixed feelings there. (According to my googling jogress = join + progress and is called DNA digivolution in the localization. Both names are kinda bleh if you ask me).
At least I can now say I'm over halfway done with this season! Woo-hoo :'D
Digimon introduced: Minotarumon, Okuwamon, Paildramon
Notes:
-The fansubbed version of this show just keeps getting jankier and jankier. As you may have noticed, the title screens have been missing some words. (I still appreciate the hard work of the anime community!)
-I wonder what the pitch was like for the evil lady's powers ("So she sticks her hair into the dark towers and then they transform into digimon!") Like...either we'll get a backstory or this is totally a "rule of cool" scenario.
-Very confused about how the dark towers function currently. When the dark towers turn into digimon I don't think they affect digivolution but maybe they do...? Patamon and Tailmon said something about not being able to evolve into perfect form but is that more about the lack of crests? I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm having trouble keeping track of things.
-Speaking of evolution, now that there are more evolution options, it feels a little random which evolutions are chosen in the moment. I guess they use higher-powered evolutions for higher-powered enemies, but when they were fighting Minotarumon Veemon did an armor evolve and Hawkmon did an adult evolve. Also, they evolved and de-evolved like 50 times this episode lol. Talk about padding!
-New eye-catch and new ending!! The eye-catch is so cute and I was really excited to see Ken as part of the gang and acting silly. I straight up skipped the ED because, as usual, it was PACKED with visual spoilers. From what I saw, it looked like a cheesy 80s music video which made me giggle.
-Just simple things like Ken and Wormmon sharing a snack at home make me really happy :') his reaction to being shown kindness by Daisuke toward the end was also really heartwarming.
-So evil lady was behind Ken's "Digimon Kaiser" phase all along which is no surprise. Apparently she just chose him due to his vulnerable state which seems like a pretty common MO in anime bad guys. I felt really bad for Ken when he realized how exploited/violated he was. It's probably kinda good that he has a place to direct his anger now instead of wallowing in self hatred. (Although he still seems to be doing that). They're really making it easy for the audience to forgive him which is good. Sometimes anime redemptions happen really undeservedly and evil actions are just excused out of nowhere.
-I only just realized this, but does Ken fill the obligatory "rival" role this season? It was Takeru before (kinda) but Ken seems like a more natural fit, especially with the Jogress Digivolution.
-I was groovin to that Jogress Digivolution sequence music. So hype. The 3D animation was fun too. I think it looks slightly improved from Digimon Adventure?
-Is it just me or do these names keep getting more and more obscure? What the heck is a Paildramon? (The dub pronunciation is really weird, like "Pa-EEL-dramon!"). When the name first flashed on screen I thought they were playing on the word "Palindrome" and I thought that was really cool lol.
-So as I was spoiled in the ED, I guess we'll be getting a bunch of these fusion evolutions. It seems only natural that Ken and Daisuke would be partner up as MC and rival dudes, but the others...? Guess I'll have to wait and see where they go with this.

Like blind really did write a story that justified murder and the antagonists measures and then realized in the 11th hour that they didn’t want that so just threw everything else to the side and wrote a final 40 minutes that make no sense at all like not in any sense of any interpretation of anything that happened in the 15 hours that preceeded it

if i see one more person in the comments of a tiktok or post saying “ooooo david got off lucky!!!! you see if joel got his hands on him it would’ve been so much worse!!!!” wrong. you are already getting the wrong idea from the whole story. ellie can save herself physically. emotionally? no, she needs joel for that part. the show is literally highlighting that in every other aspect, he fails her. and how could he have possibly done worse? SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO SMASH A MEAT CLEAVER INTO A PEDO’S SKULL 22 TIMES AT THE AGE OF 14. even joel can see it so why as a viewer can’t you?
i’m so glad craig and neil didn’t cut down ellie murdering david by joel entering the scene (like in the game) and changed it to her being allowed to take it as far as she wanted because it gives her so much autonomy. she did that shit on her own, and she’ll never be the same.

the thing is. you are dick grayson and eight years old, and your parents’ deaths are a spectacle. then, you are dick grayson, with many more years behind you, and the unveiling of your identity is a spectacle. you are a flying grayson, the last of the flying graysons, and so your own death, too, is made a spectacle.
