Ok but like. Why is Kaiser so interesting. He was already interesting before this chapter, but this makes it so much cooler. And the parallels with Isagi are so much more profound now.

The blue roses. The torn football under Kaiser's shoe and the perfectly new football next to Isagi. Almost as if one of them had to claw their way up from misery and the other had a blank slate of a life to begin with. One born from abuse and the other support.

The lavishness surrounding Kaiser-- all things he's put his blood, sweat and tears into bringing for himself. The practical equipment behind Isagi-- nothing extravagant, but everything that enhances what he already has within himself. Kaiser's looking at Isagi, but Isagi is only looking at the path ahead.

The blue rose motif. We already knew about it, of course, but it's so much more profound and bittersweet now. Everything he wants to attain, but also everything his mother symbolises to him. The torn blue petals at his feet are almost poetic, in that sense.

God damn. What a fascinating character. If Rin was Isagi's foil in terms of their playstyle and personality, then Kaiser is his foil in terms of their positions mentally, upbringing and circumstances.

To begin with, chapter 260 was horrifying to read. "oH bUT iT's JuST a mANga!!!!" I don't care, that shit was fucked up.

Is Kaiser's behaviour understandable? Yes. That's it, understandable.

It's still unacceptable and inexusable, but to be fair, no one would end up okay after that. Everyone deals with trauma differently and Kaiser found his way.

(what he needed was twenty therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, all the ists)

kinda get new meanings now. His self choking thing is . . . *shudders*

I still hate the way he treats and handles Ness. Does Kaiser know any better? No, he doesn't. He needed help. Football was good for him, yes, but did the people around him help him heal mentally? It doesn't really look like it.

Speaking of Ness, I believe they're truly friends and that Kaiser cares for him in his own traumatized, fucked up way.

They are friends. I just wish Kaiser knew how to be kinder. He doesn't know how to be kind, he didn't receive any love or affection as a child, it's alien to him.

Does Ness know the full extent of the abuse Kaiser suffered? Honestly, I don't think so. Maybe bits and pieces, if even that. Maybe Kaiser once said something along the lines of, "My old man wasn't a good person." and left it at that with Ness not prying any further.

If we'd gotten Kaiser's backstory a lot earlier I would've expected him to be even more unhinged and messed up.

Football was all he had and he cried from pure fury when he thought his father was about to cut his football open.

so how are you feeling about the kaiser backstory?

Definitely sad and explains a lot about Kaiser, I think I was pretty prepared for something like this for his backstory so it didn't like, take me by surprise too much like it did for others.

I'm a little bit more interested in next chapter because I'm not entirely sure what will happen. I think there's quite a bit of foreshadowing that there was abuse/trauma that had happened to Kaiser before ch 260 (honestly the blue rose tattoo and the meaning behind it being a HUGE one) but I wasn't expecting the Fifa president to show up and maybe rescue him? But that's also kind of fucked up if you feel you owe your life and career to a corporation and there might be strings attached to his performance as a player.

I think it could set up an interesting foil to Isagi, someone who's very motivated and has the potential to become the best striker and become "emperor" but ultimately he wouldn't like, absolutely need to, not for survival. But what about Kaiser? Why is he playing football? Why does he feel the need to become a striker that surpasses Noa? It's clear to me that one aspect is that it's not just all he has, but maybe he feels he will go back to his previous life if he doesn't perform up to a certain standard for Fifa? We'll find out more for sure next chapter I think but the different ways in which he views football compared to Isagi explains why he's panicking so much that everything is going wrong for him in this match.
