i am alone and nothing is on.

and they're like wait, but we hear voices. from you. look, the green circle around your name is lighting up even when you aren't speaking. UMMMM OKAY. i decided to do a discord audio test where you speak and it plays your voice back to you.

i speak. i hear myself a half second later.

i don't speak. i stay quiet. i heard other people speaking, just low enough that the words can't be made out.

i have no idea what's going on. my friends say it's a man, and it's english, but they're not sure they can make out his words. it seems to happen near constantly. i don't have anything in another window playing, i don't have spotify playing, i don't have a TV or radio playing, nothing. dead quiet in the room, just the occasional noise of a car passing by. but they hear conversations like i'm in a loud room. noise suppression on/off does nothing.

best thing i can think of is some time of frequency crosstalk, perhaps from a radio station???? i have heard this can happen, although i don't know how. my headphones are wired though, not bluetooth or anything.

Another great thing about tumblr is that I found people who like R.E.M. For the life of me, I do not get why it's such a niche. But IRL the most common response I get is, roughly translated:

My new computer arrived yesterday, was too small to fit any of my old drives into. Ordered an external drive hub to connect and access all of my files. Created an electronics massacre scene in my office today to extract said drives and install them in the new hub. Have been learning Many Things today about accessing multiple boot drives and moving OS files over (thankfully since I used a separate, small SSD for only the OS, it by and large has nothing I need to move over except turning on the Firefox sync so I have my bookmarks and such back. Everything else was on my big hard drives)

I feel, for the first time this month, my insides unclenching. Just a simple thing like "oh. I have my workspace back. It has all my things and is formatted how I like and it is Comfortable"

Also CJ is happy because the box containing the power strip is now Warm again from all of the Electricity being on once again and her bed is now warm because it leans up against it.

ALSO THE COMPUTER CAME WITH A NEW KEYBOARD. The enter button is weirdly formatted so sometimes i don't reach far enough for it and will get a \ instead because that's there first. It's like, upside-down from the usual backwards L shape

my regular wireless headset broke appart a while ago, so I got myself bone conducting ones to replace it (and in the time it took to get here ephron actually glued the broken headset together again)

it is really weird to hear everything perfectly but still have music playing through a headset. good weird though
