Holy mola! 

These unique fish are known as mola mola and they're found in Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Massive bony fish, they have the ability to grow 14 feet wide, 10 feet long, and can weigh in around 5,000 pounds! Their vertical fins are sometimes mistaken for shark fins, but despite their size, they are gentle ocean creatures preferring jellyfish snacks and an afternoon basking in the sun at the surface. A team of divers and the citizen science project Reef Life Survey have discovered a new population of what is believed to be the world’s rarest fish. The Red Handfish (Thymichthys politus), is a small and critically endangered bonyfish, only found off south east Tasmania, and until last week only one remaining population of around 20-40 individuals had been identified. The new site, which is secret in order to protect the new population, contains an estimated of 20-40 individuals, and is few kilometres away from the previously known population in Frederick Henry Bay. Each site covers just 50 metres by 20 metres - about the size of two tennis courts - as the range of the handfish is limited by the fact it walks on the seafloor instead of swimming.

lithi (my flagship oc, by the way, ask me about my au's (don't ask me about my au's, by last count there's something like 20+ of them) is a postmodern (god? demigod? immortal? something-) of (un?)reality. he's old. he's cranky (this has never changed once in his life). he has yet to meet the love of his life who will finally make him tolerable to be around (chlorine, sir not-appearing-in-this-ref-list, on account of i ran out of steam before i got to him. also belongs to @bonyfish ). he's the only surviving person (as far as he knows) from the century 2000. (filora is probably also about that old but uh. he would rather not know her)

aaren is a half-elf who is about as empathetic as a particularly non-empathetic human, which sucked growing up in a community based around all of them being magical empaths! luckily for her, lithi is so dysfunctional he actually projects his bad moods until she can "hear" them, which unfortunately for him, she thinks is just ~neat~!
