I like how it is highlighted that Aang isn't perfect here, but he is also somewhat justified to feel upset
He is absolutely in the wrong to hide info on Hakoda to Katara & Sokka. For all they know, they are orphans at this moment. They haven't seen him in so long;
He is also really petty for no reason to Bato. Well as far as the first half of the episode indicates;
This resentment & jealousy isn't just out of malice. They are all he has now;
His entire nation was ethnically cleansed, he can never ever return home again. There is nothing left for him in his old home;
If Katara & Sokka desired, they can go home. To their grangran, to their cousins, nieces & nephews, to surviving uncles & aunts & eventually Hakoda;
He is also incredibly self aware that he hurt Katara & Sokka. Doesn't try to argue to get them to join him. I am an idiot, Momo

The Great Divide may have been a silly little episode but that doesn't make it bad. Plot obsessed folk who want 8 episode seasons wouldn't get it

ATLA Book 1 Character Stats
One thing I have been wondering for a while is how many lines of dialogue each character has in ATLA. I recently figured out an easy way to calculate it, so here are the stats for Book 1.
There are 3490 total lines of dialogue in the season. They are divided up as follows:
Aang 818 lines, 23.44% of total Katara 633 lines, 18.14% of total Sokka 610 lines, 17.48% of total Zuko 174 lines, 4.99% of total (Note: if you include "Young Zuko," this jumps to 182 lines and 5.21%) Iroh 129 lines, 3.70% of total Zhao 107 lines, 3.07 of total Jet 74 lines, 2.12% of total Yue 51 lines, 1.46% of total Bumi 45 lines, 1.29% of total Mechanist 35 lines, 1.00%
Character stats for more obscure characters below:

AtLA Book Water Soundtrack Review
Tumblr media
You all know how we've wanted this soundtrack for years and suffered through such explanations as 'the original sound files probably don't exist anymore.' Thankfully, Avatar Studios has seen fit to re-record the music of the first season with a full orchestra, as part of what I assume is a media blitz meant to build hype for the live action Netflix remake. But we all know that remakes, even in music, often don't live up to the original. So, how did it turn out?
(Er, the soundtrack, I mean. The Netflix thing hasn't been released yet.)
With a sigh of relief, I can report: It's great!
Thankfully, the sample track didn't turn out to be indicative of the entire album. The composition of everything else is pretty faithful to the original versions, as far as I could tell. In fact, the overall sound is pretty close to my memories of the original music, despite the use of a full orchestra to record this version- with the exception of the drums, which in the HiDef sound files I downloaded sound fantastic and successfully make my floor and walls shake. (I make no guarantees about what you get if you listen to streaming, mp3 files, or the vinyl disks. This is why I pay a premium for FLAC files or CDs.) I loved turning up the volume and getting blasted by the classic Avatar theme in glorious orchestral quality.
Plus, some tracks are vastly improved by these recordings, while also being true to the original. The best example is the Northern Water Tribe entrance music, which I always thought sounded a bit chintzy and repetitive in the original track (but I admit my opinion might be colored by the poor quality of the recordings we have access to). The new version has a much fuller sound and enough variation to justify the length. I suspect this might come down to which of the original tracks used real instruments and which had to rely more on synthesized sound.
I suspect, though, that the vocals on this album are all the originals, and that's why the Koizilla music makes the chorus less prominent; it probably couldn't be mixed together with the new orchestra without sounding bad. In most cases, that's not a problem, but I do mourn that the Kozilla music doesn't sound quite right. But, on the other hand, Mako's singing has never sounded better.
The album has all the music I'd expect of a soundtrack for Book Water. The Fire Nation, Kyoshi Island, and Jet all get good suites that showcase their themes and music, something that just doesn't exist anywhere in the original recordings. The famous stuff -- the opening theme, the Avatar State, the 'into the sunset' peaceful music, the Agni Kai, Aang's antics, the full "Winter, Spring, Summer, & Fall" tune in both full instrumental form and with Mako's singing, and of course the ending credits -- is all here. The season finale is heavily represented, but that's appropriate as those episodes got a lot of new music and all of it is great. And if you've only been able to content yourself with the fan-made soundtracks we've had to piece together over the the years via promotional releases and episode rips, there's some good stuff here that you might never have heard by itself before, like the fun bit of music for June.
And because I'm compelled to nitpick, I'm a bit annoyed by the order of the tracks. I like to listen to soundtracks in chronological order, and while that kind of thing isn't really feasible with something as long and repetitive as a television series season, this album does a serviceable approximation with its order- except for two weird cases. The Blue Spirit introduction comes after the music for his escape with Aang, and the music for the encounter with Koh comes after the music for Aang's arrival in the Spirit World. I assume this is because it makes for a better hi/lo/fast/slow sequence as part of the overall, but I would have preferred the order of their presentation in the cartoon.
So, in conclusion, this is the soundtrack we've wanted all these years, and everyone should stream or buy it or at least pirate it in enough numbers to raise eyebrows. I want the other two books done this way, and I think we as a fandom deserve it, despite some of the fanfic I've seen you people write. ;)

Long break! Here are some more panoramas.
Slightly fuller version of the comet conversation, as well as a shorter version of the last panorama which appeared earlier in the episode, under the cut.

it’s the way that Zuko used to gasp for air during fights, especially when fighting Aang (ex. The boat fight in Return of the Avatar - Book 1 Episode 2) but as he grew emotionally and became healthier in all aspects of his life and fixed his bending technique, he is in complete control of his breath and uses it to keep himself steady
yeah i’m not okay

Chapter 7 of Book 1: Beautiful Ghosts is out now!!!
Summary: After sneaking off to practice her waterbending, Katara gets captured by Zuko. While in captivity, she begins to feel something new
Here’s an excerpt:
As Katara slowly began to open her eyes, she felt something was off. She tries to move but was unable to before realizing she was tied to a tree. She tries breaking free, to no avail. She was trapped. Looking around her, she quickly spots the two ships she saw earlier, with the pirates from the market crowding around it, now looking straight at her.
“Finally, you’re awake” she hears a familiar voice. Turning her head, she sees Zuko, followed by a whole team of Fire Nation soldiers. She looks at him with a mixture of annoyance and rage. At this point, Katara, Sokka, and Aang have dealt with Zuko and his soldiers four times. Following their first encounter at the South Pole, Zuko had tracked them down to Kyoshi Island before burning it to the ground, tried shooting fireballs at Appa while they were in the air, and attempted to capture Aang himself at Roku’s temple. But, right now, as he stood in front of her while she was tied to a tree with nowhere to go, this was the first time since their interaction at the South Pole that they stood face to face. If looks could kill, Zuko would’ve been long dead.
“Just tell me where he is, and I won’t hurt you or your brother” Zuko commands, doing his best appear intimidating. He probably expected Katara to beg for her life. “Go jump in the river,” she barks, not taking any of the bullshit he throws at her. Appearing to think for a second, his voice suddenly softens, seeming to try a different approach to appeal to her.
As Zuko speaks, he walks around Katara, using his soft tone like a prime master of seduction and desire. Although she didn’t quite understand it at the time nor would she have acknowledged it to begin with, but she was undoubtably feeling turned on by this approach Zuko was taking. “Try to understand. I need to capture him to restore something I’ve lost – my honor”. She jerks her head away from him, trying to appear unamused. She was hoping that by not looking at him, it would be easier for her not to immediately fall for his trap.
As Zuko got closer to her body, Katara could feel his breath on her neck as he spoke, which triggered an unfamiliar feeling in her body. While she appeared to keep up the appearance of being unimpressed, it was starting to take a lot in her just to keep it up. She was a fourteen-year-old girl who, at that point, never had a boyfriend nor even kissed anyone before. She never had another guy around her age show any interest in her like that. And here Zuko was, speaking like he was, trying to appeal to her sense of empathy, but was instead triggering something that she would’ve rather kept under lock and key.
Remembering her as the water tribe girl who knew his games and played them like a pro, Zuko deduced that treating Katara like an equal might serve him better in the end. He softens his voice even more, making even harder for Katara- who was mentally fighting her body’s new sense of desire- to resist. She bites her lower lip in attempt not to show him what he was doing to her. “Perhaps in exchange for your friend, I could restore something important that you’ve lost”. What the hell is this guy talking about, she silently mutters to herself, her brain still fighting against this feeling her body was experiencing for the first time. For a second, she thought Zuko was going to kiss her. Maybe she wanted him to.
Zuko didn’t realize it at the time, but Katara was so close to breaking. His soft, seductive tone and the effect it was having on her body was intoxicating. Had he just kept going like that, she probably would’ve given up and told him where Aang was within a few minutes. Perhaps if he even offered himself in exchange for Aang, she would’ve been more willing to comply.

AKASHA - Aang x Oc
Tumblr media
Chapter 1 - Legacy
"Okay, so all you have to do is put your fists together facing each other then sit crisscross with one leg hanging up and jump then you have an air scooter." Aang smiles at me zooming around me on his air scooter.
We have been at this together trying to teach me the air scooter or at least air bend a little. I put my fists together then jump and put my right leg under me and jump but fall back on my ass.
"Aang I just don't think that I'm meant to be an airbender. I mean I can't even create a little gust of wind. Plus, that really hurt." I say rubbing my butt trying to get the pain to go away.
"Kirro don't say, that of course you were meant to be an airbender. You were born an Air Nomad for spirit's sake." He says grabbing my hands in his and caressing them with both of his thumbs.
He was towering over me because of the height difference and due to him hitting a growth spurt. I was getting frustrated by the minute not being able to airbend. I mean have you heard of an Air Nomad not being able to Airbend? But what really made me mad was that nobody wanted to even talk to me except for my best friend Aang of course.
Ever since I was little I have shown no sign of airbending, and to say that was not normal, it wasn't. So being the nonbender I am I would get bullied a lot but ever since I met Aang he has changed my life. He has made me not afraid to stand up for myself and most of all he likes me for me. And I like him for him. Nobody wanted to be his friend ever since they found out he was the Avatar being afraid of being out-bended. So use being the outsiders we decided to be friends and do anything we can for each other all the time. And that's how I may have gotten a little crush. But I would never admit it of course because it was instantly shut down since the Avatar is supposed to have a soulmate called the Akasha. Screw that bitch.
"Monk Gyotso! What are you doing here I thought you were supposed to be with the other Monks discussing our lesson today?" Aang says, shooting me out of my thoughts and looking towards Monk Gyotso.
"Oh well Aang, I'm here to tell Kirro that the other Monks would like to see you dear. There is nothing to worry about all good things." Monk Gyotso says giving me a wink making me smile nervously.
"I'll meet you later okay, be careful." Aang says being escorted by Monk Gyotso somewhere around the courtyard for some meditation.
"Oh okay, I will." I say waving bye to him and walking to the middle of the temple where the Monks reside.
__________
I knock on the door peeking my head in the cracked door, not wanting to just barge in. "Ah come in Kirro." The Monk in the middle says, whose name is Sinehn.
I walk in and sit before the five Monks saying, "Monk Gyotso told me you wanted to see me, umm all good things I hope." I laughed nervously trying to lift the tension but that obviously didn't work when none of the Monks laughed or even made a face.
"Yes well as you know you have not been able to airbend leading to you not getting your tattoos and sky bison." Monk Sinehn says looking me dead in the eyes as he pauses while I watch all the other Monks agree with him.
"And as of now, there has never been an Air Nomad not able to airbend ever. It is a great disappointment to see that our legacy has been broken." I look down in disappointment in myself knowing that this was most likely going to be brought up.
I hear a whisper being exchanged and I look up at Monk Sinehn and see Monk Mung whispering to Monk Sinehn. He nods noting what he is saying and he turns towards me. I look at him with a little bit of hope.
"Kirro." Monk Sinehn booms into the thin air. "Yes, Monk Sinehn."
"Have you heard of the Akasha?"
"Yes, I have Monk Sinehn," He nods telling me to keep going on about what I know.
"The Akasha is said to be a soulmate to the Avatar, a long life partner." I look down in jealousy.
"Yes, the Akasha is also said to be a subbender of the elements. They are able to bend one subbending of each element and so far the Akasha has not been found... so far." Monk Sinehn says standing up keeping his fists facing each other while the other Monks follow in his movements.
"In thought with the past and the present you are the only known airbender unable to airbend. And so far no one has found the Akasha in the Air Nomads knowing that the Akasha cycle is the same as the Avatar cycle." He starts to glide around me on his feet in an elegant manner
"So following the data, we will give you three tests. They will consist of the three subbending elements of Air. If you get one out of the three correct you are the Akasha."
"And if I fail all of them?" I ask not really wanting to know the answer.
"Then you will be a disappointment in the Air Nation History." He stands in front of me making me gulp.
"Well then let's get on with the test, shall we?" Monk Sinehn says walking back to his spot and sitting down.
__________
"Now picture yourself sitting like you are now." Monk Sinehn says. I have my eyes closed with my fists facing each other, together. I try to picture myself sitting but even though I am a visual learner I am a thinker after all. I try and try and try but thoughts keep running through my head that I can't do it. I am overthinking. I'm putting in my all but nothing is happening.
I stop what I'm doing and open my eyes. "I can't do it," I say mad at myself but having pity in my eyes.
Spiritual Projection - Fail
__________
"Okay this time try to airbend but make the air hotter." We were in a room where the air was cold.
How was I supposed to make the air hotter? Do I move my hands? Do I blow hot air out my mouth? I have no clue what to do. Maybe if I just...
I put my hands out in front of me, palms facing upward. I close my eyes and try my best to close out the thoughts. I visualize palms getting sweatier and regulating the air warmer, moving the heat downwards.
I stay there for a few minutes and peek an eye open and say, "Is it warmer?"
"No, Kirro."
Temperature Regulation - Fail
__________
Okay one more time to prove yourself you are an Air Nomad. Make your legacy proud Kirro. "The last test will be flight. I want you to close your eyes sit down and imagine yourself levitating."
"Man, this sure is a lot of imagination stuff," I say shaking my head sitting down.
"Shush Kirro" Monk Sinehn says not laughing and being stern
"Yes Monk Sinehn." I say closing my eyes and putting on a straight face.
In through my nose
Out through my mouth
I repeat these steps and push away the nagging thoughts. In little to no time I start to feel like someone is lifting me up. I feel like I am in a height taller than spirit kind. I open my eyes and I see I am about nine feet off the ground. I look down and Monk Sinehn is looking up with a smile on his face.
Finally,
I got this man to crack
Flight - Succeed
__________
"Kirro you are now ready to get your arrows." Monk Sinehn says laying his hand out for me to grab. I step up to receive my arrows and thank all the monks.
After I have received my arrows before I leave Monk Sinehn has told to me deliver some news to Aang.
"Kirro I want you to pass this on to Aang," He says letting the other Monks go back to what they were doing before.
"Yes, what is it Monk Sinehn?"
"I want you to both know that after today you both will be going your separate ways to learn the elements and subelements to be the proper Avatar and Akasha. Aang will go to the Eastern Air Temple and you Kirro will stay here in the Southern Air Temple to train on your flight."
"But I thought the Avatar and the Akasha are supposed to stay together and learn?" I say astonished that they would separate use even though it is said that they need to learn together.
"Yes well, the Air Nation believes you too are close enough to were you will be alright apart for a couple of years." Monk Sinehn says.
"A COUPLE OF YEARS? But-" I'm cut off by him.
"End of discussion Kirro. Now go and tell Aang the news."
I turn around and walk out of the temple. I go outside and walk into the courtyard the find Monk Gyotso alone meditating.
"Monk Gyotso, where is Aang?"
"Oh hi Kirro, He is in his courtiers." Monk Gyotso opens his eyes and looks at me smiling.
"Okay thank you Monk Gyotso."
"Any time dear." He goes back to meditating while i go up the stairs to the boys courtiers and knock on Aangs door.
__________
"Come on in." I hear behind the door. I open the unlocked door and am greeted by Aang sitting at his desk drawing something.
"Oh it's you, so how did things go? Wait you got your tattoos how?" He grabs my hands looking down at me. I look up to him in worry.
"What's wrong?" He grabs my face with his cold hands making chills run up my spine.
"I'm your Akasha... But that's not the bad news. That's the good news don't worry."
"Okay, then what's the bad news?" Aang says still holding onto my face with worry in his eyes.
"They want to separate us Aang. After today they are going to send you to the Eastern Air Temple and begin your journey as the Avatar and learning all the elements. But I'm going to stay here and learn flight, then begin my journey learning whatever my subelements are."
"But I thought the Avatar and the Akasha are supposed to stay together?" He says backing up turning around and pacing his room trying to think why they would separate us.
"I know that's what I said but Monk Sinehn said they think that we will be okay separated for a couple of years."
"A COUPLE OF YEARS?"
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID!" I run my hands down my face and make an annoyed sound at the thought of us being separated. Aang sits down on his bed and pulls me by the waist to sit beside him.
After a few moments of silence, he looked at me and said, "I can't believe you're my soulmate."
"I know... and yet to think of was jealous of myself." We laugh and I lay my head on his shoulder.
"What if we run away?"
"What?" I say unbelieved at what he said. "You wanna run away with me? But what about our journeys and our home."
"We will make our journey together and build a home together. I won't let the Monks take you away after I just got you."
"Oh Aang, you've always had me." I smile. We both look at each other in the eyes and slowly lean in. When our noses are touching we hear a knock on the door and see Monk Gyotso at the door. We quickly pulled away not wanting him to see us but I think it was already too late.
"Lunch is ready." He says then quickly going back down the hall to let the other boys know that are in their rooms and that lunch is ready.
"Okay, then it's settled. At midnight we meet each other at the sky bison caves."
"Okay, but are you sure you want to do this." I say unsure that he might just be bluffing
"Yes of course I want to my darling." Aang says making me blush I get up and walk out the door with a little wave goodbye and a glance and go down to the cafeteria to get me something to eat.
__________
I stayed up till midnight to wait and pack my things and then I head down to the sky bison caves. I meet Aang there and give him a little kiss on the cheek and put my stuff on Appa's saddle. Aang climbs up on Appa and then helps me up to sit beside him.
"Yip yip." Aang says and in just a little bit we are soaring through the air. Wind blowing my hair behind me, and I clinging to Aangs side.
But, just then it starts to pour down rain. Then it starts to lighting. Appa is making sounds telling us he doesn't feel safe flying in weather conditions like this.
"It's alright buddy just a little more farther." Aang says to Appa holding on to the reins.
"Aang I think we should land this weather is pretty bad."
"Yeah your right, okay hold on we are going down." Aang directs Appa to start heading downwards but in a flash, a lightning bolt strikes just beside us and we go out of control. We are plummeting to the ocean and hit the water.
My lungs fill with water and in just a bit I feel my tattoos start to glow and I am moved beside Aang and link my arm with his and got in the same sitting position he was in.
Then pitch black consumes my line of sight.

"so you think that a society that functions around a child military instead of the entire city of literal adults might be indicative that their attitudes and ideals are a bit off ? and that by moving to New Rome Percy is not actually escaping his life as a demigod but instead is just giving himself a whole new set of problems to deal with?
