After everything that had gone on in the weeks before, Ron was surprised when he received the letter about the celebration on the train. Time was moving quite quickly and he couldn’t believe it was almost September already. The shop was busy and he spent his free time between Hermione and his family. He felt oddly back at home while sitting in the compartment of the train. Ron recalled the couple of times that he’d gotten to do this with Harry and Hermione and smiled fondly. He wished Harry were there too and not stupid Viktor Krum. Ron chewed aimlessly on a licorice wand before turning his attention to Hermione who sat at his side.

“You all right?” He asked. “You look like you’re a million miles away, ‘Mione.”

One of the things that Draco loved the most about being a healer was that he never knew what he was going to run into. Each day was different. Each day he was faced with something new. Each day was a new type of penance for the things that he’d done. Every time that he was able to help someone, he tried to believe that it made him better in some way. He knew it was bullshit. The days were long, but most of the time they were rewarding. At the very least, they usually pushed him to the point of exhaustion. When he ran into Hermione Granger, waiting to be seen, Draco realized that he also hated the fact that he never knew what he was going to run into. 

“Granger,” he greeted her shortly, occluding the moment he looked at her, his features hard. Draco looked her over quickly, wanting nothing more than to offer her a different healer - for her comfort and his own. However, he could tell she was in pain without much examination. Draco held his hand out, a brow raised. “Are you going to let me examine your wrist or not?”

Then there’s Hermione. Now she’s pretty damn smart, she’d be able to beat almost anyone on a test I’m certain, but she’s also part of the family, you know? Dorcas, I think you’d really like her, she’s really passionate about things, and when I talk about the dragons she doesn’t ask me to “talk about the times I’ve nearly died”, but instead actually cares about the creatures. Yeah, now if only my brother could realise that he made the biggest mistake ever by letting her go, I think she’d be a pretty great sister-in-law.

Ron tried his best to keep in touch with Harry and Hermione as often as possible. Fortunately, after a number of near death experiences, it was quite impossible to drift apart as friends - no matter how much time passed. It was early in the week when he’d decided that he’d meet Hermione for a drink after work and he tried not to stress about it. They were just friends. They’d both made it perfectly clear. Any feelings that lingered were very clearly one-sided. They kissed during the Battle and it was fueled by fear. They didn’t want to lose each other. It was a perfectly normal reaction. They hadn’t talked about it since and he was perfectly fine with that! 

The Three Broomsticks was quiet for the time of night and Ron sat at the bar with a butterbeer in his hand. When he saw Hermione, he smiled and waved her over. “Hey, ‘Mione. You all right?”
