What is Bootstrap and How to Use It?
What is Bootstrap & How it works? Bootstrapping is a flexible and effective technique that can be used in many exclusive areas of Data Science.
Bootstrap is a statistical technique that includes resampling a dataset with substitute to acquire a huge quantity of smaller datasets, from which statistical estimates can be computed. An MLP AU? In this day and age? It's more likely than you think.
I also drew a version with the academy uniform and started on Viktor, but I ended up overwhelmed by the work, so, here's Just Jayce. Thoughts below, and stuff.
Jayce "Forged-Future" of House Talis
Mule with historic unicorn ancestry on his maternal side, which effects a lot when he started screwing around with raw magic and his X gene starts bit-flipping his alleles.
They get a personal name, a ceremonial name which is used unless you're friends, and a house name here, yay.
Bay with a minimal amount of tobiano expression. E/_ | A/_ | TO/n are his exact genetics, but that doesn't matter because:
Completely sterile due to his donkey/horse heritage, which he is debatably a result of procreation tourism of. I have 5k of world building for this, no I will not get into it now.
Talent-Marked after undiluted exposure to the arcane in the mountains. Talent-Mark form directly granted from Mage-Viktor, who only effected its creation form because he knows adult Jayce's talent-mark, which is only what it is because—you get the point: Jayvik Bootstap Paradox.
Chionophobic, as a treat.
Self-conscious about his ears. I'm sure he will do nothing drastic to them in about *checks watch* seven years.
Name and mark from @ / doe-drawz bc finding her mlp arcane art sent me on this spiral lmao.

Citrinne stands the farthest from the beginning of the craggy coast, alongside the rest of knight brethren for the exploration. She keeps focus on the official serving as guide of their group, with only the occasional glance behind him at the exotic island ahead.
It is the land they were assigned to search today, with a small party of students joining their numbers. Perhaps they held interest in the uncharted area...or were attracted to the promise of treasures among the caves.
It is during one of these wayward glimpses that she notices the guide pause his (admittedly boring) speech only for another knight to return with a student in tow. The captured individual is a young man - not much older than herself - with ragged green hair. As he is shoved to the center of the exploration team, he holds an expression of remorse and embarrassment.
The sight makes Citrinne ever so slightly sick in her stomach, the man clearly not desiring to be put on display. If all he wanted to do is go forth, was the public shaming truly necessary? With the commander's words, she at least has a simple method to resolve this.
"I shall serve as accompaniment!" Citrinne announces, raising her own hand and slipping forward to meet the guilty man in the center. If a confident statement and smile is not enough to convince him, she turns to the knight for a follow-up. "I may be a recent recruit, but I promise to put my full heart into keeping the student safe, and nothing less."
She wants to ensure her position as escort is confirmed before directly addressing the student, but after her declaration, Citrinne whispers back to him. "You can lower your hand. It's alright."
grab your bootstraps, boy!

Can I get a penny for your thoughts on different systems of time travel
okayyy yaaayy
I'm actually just gonna cover a bunch of topics that might help to consider when writing time travel into your story
OK SO FIRST OF ALL you need to figure out how time travel affects your time stream. this is really important to figure out right away so it doesn't fuck you over later on, do you want:
time travel to create an alternative universe from altered choices
time travel to be reversible
time travel to be inevitable and irreversible
one thing to consider no matter what choice you do is that a time paradox is not only inevitable, but also speaks volume for how time travel works to begin with in your story/world.
now I'm not particularly a fan of the "time falling apart" trope as it requires reality to be that fragile to begin with and for physical matter to be negatively impacted by other timelines just from... interacting with itself. it's not exactly the most logic based thing for "touching hands with your past self and causing reality to become unstable" to happen, as individual atoms do not have the capacity to think "wow this body is exactly like mine" and collapse upon itself. like that's just stupid, so I'm disregarding that trope right the fuck now.
now digging into time paradoxes, I'll give a quick run down on what they are and what it means to implement them.
The Grandfather Paradox: this is the most used fictional time paradox and to be honest I hate it the most. I understand why it could happen, but I usually just write around it since this isn't a paradox I'm interested in pursuing. the paradox centers around traveling back in time, killing your grandparent, and coming back to a timeline where time travel couldn't have happened because you no longer exist. unlike the bootstrap paradox, this one works within the realm of time being alterable "one way" and it technically creates or overwrites timelines with the choices of the time traveler. this one is really common because it means that a time traveler's actions are reversible (well, depending on if they just erase the time traveler or not). there's a problem with this particular one where trying to fix their mistakes creates a bunch of copies of the character, but many fiction writers just delete all the extra versions of them after the timeline is restored. however, that isn't a requirement. literally all this is fake science anyway
The Bootstrap Paradox: MY FAVORITE PARADOX!!! this is the time paradox that makes time travel irreversible and in a way, stuck in a perpetual loop with no true origin. no timelines get overwritten because the entirety of this paradox is contained within one, already changed, timeline. the gist of it is that "there is no time from which time travel didn't happen" meaning that the timeline is permanently affected by time travel. this puts the timeline in a "feedback loop", meaning whatever the person does in time travel has already affected the present and time will not change because it has already been changed. I like this one because the consequences are permanent. I could probably ramble about it more, but I've already talked about it before
The Pedestrian Paradox: this one is kinda similar to bootstap. time traveler goes back to past and accidentally stops something that affects the future while being sustained in an intact timeline. saving the past creates their already existing future, cause and affect type deal. 90% of the philosophy behind this one is about challenging the existence of free will.
Newcomb's Paradox: similarly to the last one, this one also challenges the existence of free will and is really only important if you have (a) god(s) for your world or the existence of anyone who can predict the future. I don't think this one is super important, but a lot of people do explore it.
anyway, creating a basis for how time moves to the will of the time traveler will help a lot in a story and will also help fill some of those pesky plot holes. I think the only thing I have left to give thought on because my brain ran away from me is: is your time machine a time machine or a time and displacement machine.
moving in time is one thing, but how does that guarantee you'll be exactly where your time machine is? will the earth's rotation and movement cause a timetraveler to end up in the middle of the ocean? or worse, space? does the time machine stay put to its coordinates on earth specifically to prevent that from happening? or does your time machine move to certain locations when it moves through time? will it be affected by the first concern? lots of things to consider when actually making a time machine and I'd definitely recommend looking into it.
generally time travel is fictional enough that you can just bullshit stuff and never have to worry about it, but also I like world building and putting some rules in place so I can stay consistent. here's a quick checklist that might help:
how does the time machine move through time? does it move physically or only temporally?
if it does move, are coordinates required for the usage of a time machine?
how will time travel affect the timeline? will it affect it independently, only changing the present as the past is altered, or will the present have always been affected by the changed past?
does time travel create alternative realities? would going back in time create a split timeline where your actions affect the past/future, but not yours because it created a new, separate, timeline now affected by your actions?
does free will exist? does it matter?
will time travel affect the abstract concept of reality? is it capable of being collapsed to begin with?
why should your character know to avoid certain scenarios like meeting their past self? does it matter?
if you're having logic problems with some of the scenarios (such as people from the future stopping their past selves from a terrible future, destroying their present in exchange for a new one, but now having no origin of time travel), then congratulations! you have ended up in a time paradox, which is completely fine and normal for creating a story that contains time travel.
I hope at least some of this made sense, I like the fake science that doesn't matter

Midnight, for specifically Milly and Verdell!
Question: What keeps your oc up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?
Milly: The weight of blood on her hands. The organs that she's yanking out of people are very special because this a world with metahumans and this hospital she's forced to help at to pay off her debt, ran by the gang. They take the person's information and if they have a cool power a bidder might want, off to the surgery room because if you transplant someone's organ into yourself, you have a chance of getting a weaker version of that ability so there's a market for it
Aside from guilt is the dread she won't make it in life. Her parents have always favored her brother so openly, she was so fed up and had enough. Milly pushed herself to rush out of the house and get her education, she was desperate.
She didn't know the government apparently pays for your medical school dues as long as you work in a public hospital for a few years apparently..
So quickly did she dig her own grave. She fears having to go back to her parents and beg them to help her if things really fall apart. Milly fears failure to obtain the cushy future she desires, so she needs to work extra hard, pull herself up by her own bootstaps. She hadly sees anyone anymore, barely any free time when she needs to study and work. She's jealous of her brother and all the support he gets being the favorite child for all her life. They really don't talk and they really no reason too, Milly is bitter on her end.
In the hours she should be asleep, she's on that grindset, reading her notes, doing homework and brushing up on her textbooks. It'll all be worth it once she's making bank.
Verdell: He fears getting pushed aside, never being remembered once he dies. He feels an obligation to make a big name out of himself, make a whole legacy for generations upon generations to know he existed in a possitve light. He wants to live up to all the admiration he obtained throughout his whole life, it eats away at him every night that he never does enough. Hes doing his good deeds, helping people out but there's the compultion to always top each act somehow if he can.
He's anxious of letting the people around him down plus the responsibility of saving and helping out the community as a vigilante. He legitimatly wants to help people out. If he feels like he really failed, he bottles it all up.
I think he tries train his body, practices his quips, goes on with his theatrics and struts. He also gets out of the house and does midnight patrols. Classic hero things. (I still need to research more superhero stuff)

It's just straight up homophobic that I can't sleep. I should be allowed to sleep. I deserve it, I've earned it. I bootstapped my way to beddy-bye and now I should get to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I'm a sleep socialist now. Sleep is a human right and I should get to indulge. Luxuriously. Where does the Dream Boss live? I got a brick with they're window's name on it.

Sonic the Comic Liveblog: Issue 70
Tumblr media
Let’s do the time warp agaaaaiiiinnnnnnn!
…I’ve never actually watched Rocky Horror, need to get around to that
Tumblr media
Background characters in StC are so unique and appealing in their own little way. They aren’t standardised “mobian” designs like we see in the games or American comics, yet their designs are certainly more cohesive in a way that Underground’s background and tertiary characters never were.
Tumblr media
Does this count as a self-own?
Tumblr media
Why does Omni’s portable carrying case thing look like a cassette player. Shit, did they actually just load him onto one of Vectors cassette tapes?
Tumblr media
Sonic: Does it work?
Kintobor: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tumblr media
I’m starting to think the writers hate Charmy more than they hate Tails
Tumblr media
*Action movie protagonist listening to scientist voice* : uhh… in English please? 🤨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No Sonic! Don’t do it! You’re gonna turn Kintobor into Robotnik again!
Tumblr media
Yeah, we’re bootstap paradoxxing this shit
Tumblr media
Back to Knuckles! I genuinely can’t predict whether it’ll turn out that he’s just been tripping balls or not
Tumblr media
Pumpkin Hill theme intensifies
Tumblr media
Waking up after a particularly crazy night at the bar
Tumblr media
This artist must really like dinosaurs
Tumblr media
This art implies that echidnas naturally have mitten hands and I’m not sure I like that.
Tumblr media
Oopsy-daisy
Tumblr media
No real comments, I just like this exchange for some reason
Tumblr media
You know ya ain’t subtle when your own prisoners are calling you out for not following the chain of command.
Tumblr media
Has this artist ever actually played a Sonic game before? Because those ain’t badniks
Tumblr media
I wonder if this is the same community of sheep Bab is from?

how do you get such nice, crisp screenshots of wild world?
Sorry for taking forever to respond to this - I didn't realise I had asks turned on until I logged in on desktop today!
I play on a modded DSi running TWiLight Menu++, a menu replacement for DS/3DS that allows you to play DS game dumps from the SD card via nds-bootstap. I still have my original Wild World cartridge but I play through bootstrap because it allows me to take screenshots. However, only the main screen can be captured (whichever is currently displaying the player) and every so often taking a screenshot will cause the game to lock up and I have to hard reset. (ouch)
So yeah, a super useful bit of homebrew but you have to think carefully about any unsaved progress before taking a screenshot!

looooord we have been busy at work.  Usually I spend a couple hours during my work day drawing, or watching youtube.  I’ll get like five emails to reply to.  Today we have over 130 emails that have been unanswered, 60 unanswered voicemails, and the calls and walk-ins have been non-stop.
I told my friend Ashely how busy we’ve been, and she says, “That’s good!  You’re making money!”
And I said I make money whether I have to work hard or not.  I’m paid hourly and they hadn’t given me any extra hours.
She said, “OK, but if you work hard, you’ll impress your boss and get a raise!”
And I said, no.  No we don’t get raises based on our performance.  We have only gotten cost of living raises.
What is funny to me is that Ashley very strongly believes in the capitalist myth that we can pull ourselves up by our own bootstaps and our worth is determined by our productivity.  And she’s also in prison. Where she makes like fifty cents an hour and there are no performance raises. Which I feel like should really give a person sour impression of capitalism.
