Also listen... I'm hesitant to talk about this just cause of my whole preferring not to talk too much about current events cause I know you all already know, but I gotta say something at at least... like for my own sake on this one
What happened in Boulder is terrible, and... I don't know... shouldn't even need saying, but with the amount of antisemitism I'm seeing these days I at least have to do the bare minimum and say that much
You don't get to kill people just because you disagree with them, even if they're truly horrible you don't
I've been worried about antisemitism on the left for years and... it's coming out in exactly the ways I was fearing all the way back in like 2015
You can criticize the Israeli government with being antisemitic, I actually think it's pretty easy. You say something like "I think it's wrong to bomb hospitals and I think Israel needs to stop", and I did that without having to bring up Jews at all
At a certain point you have to ask, are you fighting for peace? Are you fighting for an end to suffering and senseless death? ...cause I'm not so sure, with way too many people these days I'm just not so sure that's the major focus anymore
Grew up knowing a lot of Jewish people, so I'm not Jewish and at the end of the day I'm safe from any antisemitism... I'm not the one at risk here and any time I wanted I can just shut up and I'm not effected... I know that about me. But even though it's been so many years, was close to enough Jews growing up that antisemitism fucking eats at me, and I gotta say something
You've got people literally just... existing, living their lives... what the hell are you doing bothering Jews for?
Final closing thoughts?
You're not immune to antisemitism. I'm not immune to antisemitism. Even Jewish people aren't immune to it. None of us are immune to being bigoted or hateful. Just because you're coming at things from a good place, a place of love, a place of caring... it doesn't make you immune. In fact, a lot of times love is exactly what gets twisted around till it's a justification for horrible things. You've gotta be careful. Care more about protecting Gazans than hurting or punishing people... like they need help and we gotta do what we can
Second is that you can criticize a government without needing to rip in to everyone in a country. You got anything going on in your country that your government is doing that you don't like? ...yeah, those bastards kinda have a way of doing that, don't they?
Rip the hell into the Israeli government. I don't talk about much other than Ukraine, cause frankly I'm just way more informed on Ukraine and... I think I'm more at risk of saying something stupid than useful here, that's why I tend to shut the hell up, but I mean... Israel's military reminds me way too much of russia's and you have to understand to me there's few worse insults (it's the bombing hospitals that really does it)
But man... what's wrong with you if you're acting like every Jew in the world is responsible for the Israeli government? Not even every Israeli is responsible. They're not a monolith just like you're not a monolith with your government
Focus your anger on who deserves it and stop catching Jews in the crossfire (and if you already do that, then that's real good news to me)
Just seeing way too much antisemitism lately, and way way way too much of it on the left. I can't take it, I can take seeing that growing in my own backyard, you know? If I were gonna convert to anything, it would be Judaism, I feel a connection and I had a lotta friends growing up, so I can't take seeing all this shit
So sincerely, all I'm asking is you look at yourself and make sure you're not sliding into being hateful. That's it... and if look and think maybe you are... don't be doubling down out of shame, get that I'm here telling you that could be me too. There's a line that'll work on all of us if we're not careful, what matters is you catch yourself and work to do better
Anyway... haven't wanted to make this post cause I hate putting too much negative stuff on people's dash, but... man... I can't take it anymore and I gotta say something
Cause it eats at me
#and since I'm saying all this; I'll just add that... again; I'm not nearly as deeply informed on this as I am Ukraine#mostly cause... I can only take one atrocity at a time; it gets hard keeping up with all the death in Ukraine even#I just... I don't have it in me... it'll burn me out#so take what I'm about to say with that declaration#but from my perspective I don't think Egypt catches nearly enough flak for the role they play in this#like they share a border... they can let people out... but they don't; to my understanding they really don't#from what I can tell you need like $5000k to get in; and then you're not getting a work visa; that's what a lot of the fundraising is for#to get the money to even be let in (for the people where that's what they're trying to do; vs those just looking to try and eat)#they may not be the biggest player in this; they may not be the main actor or the cause#but... I think they're culpable; and I don't know that I personally have seen any criticism leveled at them#...but then again; I'm not informed; I'm really not; and I'm just laying that on the table#and that's not what this is about; it's just something that's been on my mind a long time#I hate... I know everyone's dash is filled with this nonstop every day#so I hate adding to it#but I just... I gotta fucking say something; I gotta say something about this#and if you ask 'why are you saying stuff about antisemitism and not about Gaza?'#well... one... I think I did in there; I think I made my stance pretty clear#but two... I told you... had a lot of Jewish friends growing up; and I gotta say at least something about the antisemitism I'm seeing#I see the couple Jewish mutuals I have talking about their stuff or sharing other Jewish users and#...man... my version is watered down#like all I'm asking man is that we support Gaza without being antisemitic... to me; that's not a tall ask#but I can tell it's pretty huge based on... based on shit I see... based on this attack

Today at work I wrote my first ever description of an archive*
But I still don't quite know how to input the archive into the collections management system. Archives are organised hierarchically, so that David Smith's Archive has series* like A (identity documents), B (correspondence), C (manuscripts) and D (other documents), where A1 is his birth certificate, and A2 is his passport, B1 is letters from Mary Smith and B2 is letters from Bob Jones, C1 is a notebook full of poetry he wrote, and D1 is his rental contract and D2 is the program to his funeral. And such.
And I haven't decided whether I should do one entry in the system for the whole archive (and use the diary number I guess? 1/2025?) and then another entry for A (1/2025/A?), another for B, another for C, another for D, and then do entries for all the individual things, or bundles of things in the case of letters (1/2025/A:1?) Because that seems a little bit reductive, I would like to skip from 1/2025 to 1/2025A:1. But that may be not ideal. A lazy alternative is to stop at the 1/2025A -level and just verbally describe what documents are in that series.
Ugh, did I just rubber duck myself into doing it the right way...? -_-
A different consideration is whether the system has a category of object for the A/B/C/D -level of stuff or not. I know it has one for the 1/2025 -level, the overall archive. And I know it has one for the 1/2025A:1 -level, an individual document. And I do still wonder whether there is any need to have the middle manager level there at all. Like I can just describe the meanings of the alphabet in the description of the archive, and then skip directly to the documents.
.
* not sure if that's what it's actually called, I'm doing direct translation here

ngl i love joseph (+ the seeds) in my viking au. man has religious delusions and says "god told me to unite england" and because he's just Some Guy™ he has to rely on jacob (pagan, leads a small army of vikings) to plunder wealth from both danes and saxons in the danelaw and northumbria, and then he uses john (raised by an ealdorman, has ties to the church) to be like "this is legal actually and also you're undeserving of your wealth because you're sinners so give it to your new king <3" and then if anyone is like "hey, that doesn't sound right" then there's faith (medicine woman and "witch") who's making ye olde chemical weapons to pacify them

hope “cheaper eggs and gas” was worth it.
EDIT: i removed the “trump refused to swear on the bible” point because it was being taken as me being an offended christian. i’m not christian, im agnostic. the reason i included it in the first place is because he’s the first president in history to ever refuse to swear on ANYTHING. meanwhile his “conservative christian” followers had no issue with this, and decided to continue to scramble for excuses instead of admitting he may not be as religious as he claims he is. i figured taking that point out entirely is probably better than filling this with an explanation in the middle of the other important issues.

Reposting this from a friend bc I think it is VERY important to know of this, and for immigrants, and other possible victims of the ICE Raids happening right now
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s to also a very huge edit, from the list of very helpful people who have been reblogging and providing more info.
I’m not as well informed but I will be relaying the information and tagging each person who added onto this post:
@onthedriftinthetardis -
The phone number in the first photo is ONLY for Orange County, California!
Look up your local ACLU affiliate here
@6feetunderwater -
It always makes me nervous to see a reporting phone number passed around without any links to verify it, so the number in the first pic can be found on the site for the Orange County Rapid Response Network, which is "an interconnected system of non-profit and grassroots organizations, civil rights attorneys, law school clinics, and individuals working together to respond to dehumanizing immigration enforcement activities and policies in Orange County"
@geekerypeekery -
The second warrant is not fake, but is an administrative rather than judicial warrant, and has no constitutional authority to bypass Fourth Amendment protections - in other words, it does not entitle the bearer to enter and search your home. It simply authorizes agents of the issuing department to contact you. Always ask to see the warrant before opening your door!
In addition to the ACLU links, try contacting the National Immigration Law Center https://www.nilc.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Warrants-Subpoenas-Facts.pdf
@american-anger -
The phone number listed here is specific to Orange County in California, but you can look up other California counties here:
CALIFORNIA RAPID RESPONSE NETWORKS
@beaniebaneenie -
Unpleasant reminder: within 100 miles of the border (which is home to 200 million people and virtually all major cities in the US), ICE does not need a warrant to enter your home, your car, to search anything, or even to arrest you.
You are not automatically safe just because they don't have a real warrant.
The best and safest thing you can do is learn to have escape routes- quick ways to get out of the house or area you're in if you find out ICE or CBP are around. Those of us who do have documentation? Time for us to step the fuck up.
Film any interaction. Every interaction. If you're able, step into the conversation and be a Karen/Kyle- weaponize your privilege for Good. If you get asked about people? Use positive but vague statements so you a) cannot be caught in a lie, and b) do not give any information away.
"I don't know them that well, but I don't tend to socialize much. They seem great to me."
"I can't remember the last time I saw them."
"Maybe they speak another language, I can't remember details. But I picked up Duolingo during the pandemic and tons of other people did too."
"I'm not sure."
"I'm sorry, I can't help you."
Even if you're somewhere the 100-mile Exception doesn't apply and a warrant is in fact needed? I don't expect ICE and CBP to play by the rules for long, if at all. I fully expect this to get ugly, and fast.
Cheeto has already declared an emergency of national security at the border, and is mobilizing the military to have jurisdiction over a huge swath of the country. It's essentially tantamount to martial law. And it's only been four days.
Gear up for a long, hard fight. This is gonna be a marathon, not a sprint.
— I am leaving all of this as an edit because on the off chance someone does find the posts that have these people specifically reblogging, I don’t want it to be too late. So I’m comprising it all here
Here are a few other people’s reblogs I thought were important:

Thank you @onthedriftinthetardis @6feetunderwater @geekerypeekery @american-anger @beaniebaneenie @bunnychiffon @dubiouslynamed @trisockatops @witchy-disaster for contributing and helping me make this a more well-informed post. Thank you so much

On Missouri's SB72 & SB58: Why Targeting Undocumented Immigrants With No Criminal Record/History is Dangerous & Irresponsible
I discuss my concerns over recent U.S. immigration policies, highlighting the potential detrimental effects of mass deportation and xenophobic legislation on individuals and society. I urge resistance to bills such as Missouri's SB58 and SB72.
While the deportation of undocumented immigrants and violent offenders who have illegally crossed U.S. borders is lawful, I am concerned about the trajectory of these actions. Intruding into churches and other sacred spaces and spending billions of dollars to deport disciplined immigrant and migrant workers is dangerous. The Federal government is wastefully spending taxpayer dollars on activities…
