Praise God for a super day at #ActsTeensLive today! We missed many of our precious teens as they were away for various reasons, but we're also encouraged by the many who showed up despite having their own reasons not to come. And those who came had a real treat! We had a #LifeTalk Panel today where we heard real life stories from our adult leaders and facilitators of how they faced temptations in life to make unethical choices, and how some struggled, some failed, but all overcame through the love and power of Jesus! The Q&A session was really interesting and insightful but, as usual, we just didn't have enough time to cover all the really good questions we received. We hope to discover the answers together at another time or through another way. Besides all that, we had an amazing time of worshipping Jesus together, praying over one another and our very own version of #BottleCapChallenge #BottleTopChallenge! 😆 Also, @thean_jeiwen our #5MinPreacher for today took it to another level! Bottle Cap Challenge – The New Social Media Trend

There was a time when social media platforms served as a way for people to connect with their friends and family. Perhaps, sharing a photo, talk to someone through messenger, etc. But, for a few years now, social media sites have become a sort of home for viral challenges to take place. 

Now, do any of you remember the time when challenges were not a thing? I personally don’t. In fact, it’s been so long since challenges became popular that I cannot even remember which one started it all. Was it the ice bucket challenge? or could it have been the Harlem Shake?

The point is that not a single year goes by without the world learning about a new challenge. And in 2019, the new trend has to do with knocking off the cap of a plastic water bottle with one quick kick. Here’s everything you need to know.

How Did It Start

There are people who think the British actor Jason Statham is the one who started the bottle cap challenge. Indeed, I was under the impression he was responsible for this challenge going viral. But, the truth is he is just one more person joining the trend. 

You see, the challenge was started by the UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway. The MMA fighter uploaded a video to his Twitter account where he can be seen unscrewing the cap of a bottle with a swing kick.

In the video description, Holloway tagged American music producer John Mayer and challenged him to unscrew the cap of a bottle just as he did. Of course, Mayer took up on the challenge and shared his own video where he challenged actor Jason Statham. And from there, the rest is history.  

So far, one of the most viewed videos is that of Jason Statham with almost 20 million views. Perhaps, that’s why people thought he started it all. I can say I thought the stunt was sort of promotion for his upcoming movie  Hobbs & Shaw.

Parodies

Even though there are hundreds of people nailing the bottle cap challenge, there are others who opted to have a little fun instead. For instance, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds shared a video on YouTube where he carries a bottle of his Gin “Aviation” all the way to a room. Then, he attempts to do the challenge and unscrew the cap of the bottle but ends up breaking the container instead.

American singer Mariah Carey also joined the trend, but did it her own way. Instead of doing a swing kick, she decided to use her voice. And incredibly, that was enough to unscrew the cap of the bottle. Indeed a talent of another level. What do you think? Could you unscrew the cap of a bottle just with your voice?

Final Thoughts

Everybody is free to try and do the challenge. However, it is important to take into consideration that getting it right the first time is sort of difficult. In fact, lots of famous people have failed to succeed and have yet to upload their videos to their Instagram and Twitter accounts.

After all, the end goal is to simply have fun and enjoy the moment. So, go ahead and do the challenge. But, be careful not to harm yourself. Always use a plastic bottle rather than a glass one. That way, you don’t get hurt.
