Sweetheart (OUAW Horror Fanfic)
*It was hardly the first time the group had gotten turned around or separated in the Feywild. Hell, it felt like half at least of their journey here had been them being sidetracked by one thing or another. That was hardly surprising though, given the coven had been doing everything to keep them away, even the Feywild itself was determined to hamper their actions*
*As such, Gideon had lost track of the group. Sadly, it was starting to not surprise him, turning to see the group one minute, and no sign of them the next, especially in dense woods like this. He tried to count his steps, he tried to light a flame in his hands to get a better view of the path, he even tried to mark his tracks with small stones to get a better idea of where he was and where he'd been. But everything he did seemed to undo itself the moment he looked away*
*After what seemed like hours of wandering, the forest finally did begin to change - though, not in the way he expected. He noticed the once bog-standard pine trees and dull flowers began to get brighter in color, the trees morphing from thick and coated in in leaves to thinner with wide, almost rubbery looking leaves, the colors turning almost pastel in their cheerfulness. The flowers went from faded oranges and greens to bright pinks, blues, and yellows, so cartoony and fake one half expected them to shoot water*
*He looked up and around him, brow furrowing in concern and confusion* "The fuck..." *He muttered to himself, squinting as he tried to figure out what was going on. Then suddenly...a scent hit him*
*It was the most decadent, overwhelming scent of delicious, enrapturing sugar he'd ever smelled in his entire life. It was like every candy flavor all at once, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, strawberry, cherry, butter pecan - and yet somehow, none of them clashed or overwhelmed each other. It was like the very -thought- of all those sweets numbed his brain. Of course, he wasn't the most cautious to begin with, but as soon as he'd registered this scent, all worries he'd had previously seemed to vanish in an instant*
*He started making a beeline towards the scent, passing foliage that grew more and more odd as he got deeper into the woods. Eventually, he came to a clearing, panting heavily and looking about, eyes wide. They widened further at the sight he beheld within the clearing*
*There was a small hut, with a well and small garden in the front, surrounded by a fence - but all of it, every last thing, was made of candy. The fence was made of cinnamon dusted pretzels, glazed with frosting, the walls of the hut were made of gingerbread and dotted with colorful gummy candies, the stones that made up the well were in reality giant rock candy, and the scent of fresh honey floated up from the bottom of the well*
*He rushed into the area with a hearty laugh, the allure of the scent making him unable to think of anything but eating. He pulled up weeds of taffy and broke off chunks of the fence, he ate the gummy flowers from the flowerbed, he even ate some of the flowers from the boxes in the hut's windowsill. He just ate and ate and ate, rushing from one sweet to the next, his shirt and beard getting stained with crumbs and frosting, and long marks in the soil left behind by his chains*
*Eventually, the door of the hut slowly creaked open, as Gid was in the middle of sitting in one of the ravaged flowerbeds, shoveling handfuls of chocolate down his gullet and chuckling dreamily to himself* "Aye! Whatcha doin' out here, sweetheart?" *His head shot up immediately and he looked towards the door; he didn't recognize the woman's voice, but he sure recognized the accent*
*Stood in front of the open door, looking at him with a warm smile, was a large, elderly Gatorfolk woman. She was tall, almost as tall as Gideon himself, and quite heavy-set, wearing a cutesy, baker-style dress with a big, frilly apron draped over the front. With bright, cheery eyes with pink pupils that almost looked like candies themselves, and a gnarled cane stripped with red and white, she looked not unlike some of the bakers he'd seen down in Agwe*
*She chuckled a bit* "Well, if ya were that hungry darlin', ya coulda just asked." *The Genasi just kind of stared at her in a daze for a moment. His rational mind slipped in -just- enough for him to comprehend what he'd been doing for the past several minutes, looking around at how much he'd wrecked this lady's yard; hell, he'd even taken some of the stones right off the well. He felt...weird. Not nauseas exactly, not even full precisely, just...weird. He hefted himself up, blinking a few times before rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand - which hardly helped, given it just smeared frosting across his face*
*He blinked blearily once more, then grumbled* "I...um. I ain't feelin' so hot, lady. C-Can I come in?" *He said, swaying just a bit as he stood, his legs ironically feeling like jelly. She smiled brightly, reaching out to take his hand, gently guiding him towards the front door* "Oh, don't worry, sweetheart. Sweet ol' Betsy Beignet won't let ya rot all alone out here! Ya'll be right as rain in no time."
