Howdy Marh!! I wanted to ask, what colours does Doña wear often???? Are there any outfit refs you could show me 👉🏽👈🏽✨️🩷?
Skipper @tex-treasures
Tumblr media
Hey Skipper!
This is actually the reference I use for Donia's traje de mestiza! I'm planning on doing a proper reference where she gets to wear it plus her tambourine necklase but right now it's the simple version I'm doing dsufgisgdfvs
Donia's fashion sense when not wearing the custom tailored barong tagalog and fusion pieces that her father commissioned for her is very elegant but it also has hints of an almost mama vibe
Yes that hanky is part of the reference for me because I had a whole scene where her first meeting with Gavroche also involves her having him join her in the cab ride and she gently wipes his face clean xdiugvsidufgv let me dote on my boys
Now in regards to the shoes of that time it's these lovely things
Tumblr media
They're called bakya and I loved wearing these back then ngl I wanna try and find some bakya rn but idk where to find them TwT
Anyway Donia likes having her bakya slippers be designed with traditional flowers that she tries to pair with floral perfumes she's gifted with by her family members.
Also since it's made of wood she definitely chucked it at someone in a dangerous situation once or twice

The Filipino Uniform
A crop top and skinny jeans for girls and a Penshoppe shirt and shorts for boys, or something close enough. The Filipino Uniform. I’ve noticed that trend since I was a child, a trend in which all of us have fallen victim for. As my style developed throughout the years, I grew to despise that “uniform”. I express so much of myself through my fashion sense and style and most people in our poverty-striken country wouldn’t really acknowledge or appreciate it, which is understandable but was an unfortunate fact for a fashion girlie like me. What happened to our beautiful culture? I was always envious seeing our neighboring countries wear their traditional attire like Hanfus and Kimonos casually as their everyday attire just to fee la sense of connection to their culture and history.
The history of Filipino fashion is a rich tapestry of cultural influences, reflecting the nation's diverse history and heritage. Early Filipinos wore clothing made from natural materials like cotton, abaca, and piña, often adorned with embellishments such as beads and shells. Spanish colonial rule brought European styles to the Philippines, and traditional Filipino garments like the baro't saya and barong tagalog evolved to incorporate Spanish elements. In the late 19th century, American fashion trends influenced the Philippines, leading to the creation of the terno, which combined American and Filipino dress styles. After gaining independence in 1946, the terno remained popular for women, while the barong tagalog became a national symbol. In recent decades, Filipino fashion has become more eclectic, with Filipinos embracing Western fashion trends while also celebrating their traditional heritage. Unfortunately the rise of fast fashion has significantly changed the course of our fashion history. “Fast fashion” is a term used to describe the production of clothing at a rapid pace in order to meet the latest trends. Despite all of it’s negative consequences (pollution, waste, exploitation of workers, and even child labor!), it has become a global phenomenon especially in places with high levels of poverty where people don’t have much disposable income but still want to be able to wear stylish and trendy clothes. Because fast fashion is affordable and easily accessible, it’s an industry that will remain extremely popular in the foreseeable future. Even though fast fashion causes more harm to our planet than good, we can’t blame people of a lower socioeconomic status for buying cheap clothes. To counter this, we must try to prioritize and remain sustainable by buying secondhand, not shopping excessively, and if we could, shop from ethical sources. Luckily, we have one of many solutions in trying to combat the wasteful nature of fast fashion by buying from ukay-ukay stores!
“Ukay fashion” refers to the practice of wearing pre-owned or thrifted clothing, and it has gained significant popularity in the Philippines, where you can find numerous ukay-ukay shops scattered across neighborhoods. These shops offer a wide range of secondhand clothing, footwear, and accessories at highly affordable prices. The widespread appeal of ukay-ukay in the Philippines can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, it is seen as a sustainable approach to clothing shopping. Purchasing second hand items reduces waste and contributes to environmental conservation. Additionally, ukay-ukay provides an avenue for discovering distinctive and stylish clothing options at a fraction of the cost of brand-new garments. In recent years, the trend of ukay fashion has also found favor in other parts of the world. This surge in popularity can be attributed to various factors, including the rising prices of new clothing, a growing awareness of the fashion industry’s environmental impact, and the increasing trendiness of vintage and retro fashion styles. All of these sound very promising, however, shopping ukay-ukay can have it’s negative consequences too. To name a few: the wear and tear of second-hand clothing, hygiene concerns, the time and effort to find a piece you like, and of course, the inconsistent selection of sizes and styles.
But what steps can we start to take to improve our style? First is to make sure that our clothing fits well and compliments our figure. Clothes that are too tight can restrict our movements and even make us look bigger than we actually are, this is important to remember for people with different body types. Because of this, intentionally oversized clothing is tricky to master. It can either go right or completely wrong, making us look like we’re drowning in fabric or give the illusion that we’re short and shapeless. Second is grooming. Style is more than the clothing that we wear that’s why we need to take everything else into consideration. Our personal hygiene is as important as everything else. Smelling good, having healthy skin, nails, and hair, making sure that the clothes we wear are ironed and washed, and all the other little details can help in the big picture. Third is to explore and experiment. Don’t get stuck on the Filipino Uniform, it’s easy to fall into trends and fads that will look out of style sooner than later. There are tons of blogs, artists, social media apps, aesthetics to get into and get inspired by, you just have to find the one that speaks to you most. Through this, you’ll be able to learn how to color coordinate, mix and match, accessorize, and more. And last but definitely not the least, be confident. Nothing can help an outfit shine more than a bright and confident personality that outshines it. Be yourself and be proud of who you are and what you have to show for it.

post-con diary process long rambling //
i’m trying to figure out why i’ve been feeling a creative shift towards diaspora and religious horror even though I have lived in the ph most of my life. i think it’s the fact that we grow up seeing us/can settings in pop culture, the novels i was reading, etc. and now that i’m actually in those places i wanna fiddle around with them as a creator from the outside.
esp as someone who learned of these things as foreign and far away but now has access to them, and has an interest mainly because i’ve read and watched how many music vids, ya novels, games, shows, etc. that i still think of whenever i walk outside and the leaves are turning and i’m wearing a polo and learning that there is such a thing as school locker rooms and house basements you can fuck around in, and you read about a fictional gay boy in the diaspora who does the same lifting weights downstairs when he’s upset because insert commentary here about queer masculinities and colonial machismo which i like thinking about as a trans man with many messy feelings etc etc.
but also i think i enjoy that when i work on this it’s freeing more than like when i do amorsolo palette barong tagalog ph mythology paintings and say my name is isagani (to be updated) it feels like i’m trying to prove something. like i am (and i was) insecure about stamping proof of my filipinoness in a way that leaves a sour taste in my mouth especially after learning the way many komikeros trademark sign think about pinoy komiks trademark sign. compared to embracing and playing with the foreign influences i have because i want to confront them as someone both from outside and now inside yet not really. and maybe there is something really intimidating and terrifying about these things when you’re new to them and they don’t exactly account for your existence in their world. neither did i expect to be existing here and i want them to remember i do so. tension maybe. and i like sitting down to draw in that tense muddy headspace.
tldr idk i feel like i can be myself in this tone/theme of art n writing and it’s so simple like that yet i feel kinda sad that when i started posting and pitching that really wasn’t the case
so when i don’t want to do amorsolo palette barong tagalog carabao sun art with baybayin slogans it’s almost out of spite. i think i am angry. and arrows to their heaven and everything after with my obsession with killing god is some kind of fuck you fuck this fuck everything acting out in direct response to my earlier work. honestly i’m cool with that

2, 6, 22, 25! (for those artist asks)
artist asks ough this got l o n g
2) 5 favorite works of your own?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1-2. After being in a slump for so long and not being able to finish full pieces, I'm really proud I managed to push through with my entries for Rose Magazine! I really enjoyed trying make insect themed clothing inspired by Barong tagalog (though most of it is hidden ;w;) and Baro't saya.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3-4. These drawings I did for this year's artfight! (Olive belongs to Maizemaze and Preston belongs to U3pxx. Used this year's AF as a way to experiment with my process a bit and really liked how these ones turned out (cleaner rendering with olive and fiddling with lighting with preston)
Tumblr media
5. Oldie but but goldie (to me,,) this is where I really wanted to start pushing myself to do bigger illustrations.
6) Which artists inspire you right now?
Hoo boy a lot, I can think of a lot of artists with all different types of styles with all different types of reasons. I tend to lean towards artists who do character design and narrative illustration. Off the top of my head though, these are who I can think of at the moment!
Ryoko Kui
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where to begin??? Everyone knows her character design is *chefs kiss* just gorgeous, but i also love the way she draws food, dunmeshi's panels (especially anything involving Falin) and the way she draws expressions (especially Marcille's reactions to the party's shenanigans)
2. Vivian Ha (TWT/ Tumblr)
Tumblr media
ahh man they've been such an inspiration to me for such a long time, i think i found out about them around 2016? their linework and the shapes in their work are so fluid, and their coloring is so so soft
3. Tan Jiu ( IG / Twt)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tamen de Gushi my beloved. There's something about their colors, the way they draw their characters interact (aside from sun jing and qiu tong, I also really love sun jing and mophead's dynamic, the way they draw their expressions are so funny) and just the warmth and coziness from their illustrations with sun jing/qiu tong. fills me with utter joy
4. Lyoo_lyoo (IG / Youtube / Class101)
Tumblr media
Lot of pretty boys in this one, I found them through one of their speedpaints on youtube and their process was very interesting to me! Their colors are so warm and tasty and i love the way they paint hair and clothes!.
5. Jarvisdean (IG)
Tumblr media
had to screenshot this one on IG ignore the arrow ;w; One of the official illustrators for All Saints Street. The way they draw characters so SHAPED, the composition and the detail!!!
22. When is your prime time to work on your art?
Usually afternoon to evening! I've been trying to avoid staying up too late to draw but this also ends up with me drawing personal stuff at work and forgetting to do my work tasks until it's really late.
25. Based on your recent reference searches, what would the FBI assume about you?
Tumblr media
i wouldve probably gotten away with something mild but unfortunately i have the word foot in there so nothing good

DAY 1: National Outfits #POSTITNOTEMBER
The national outfits of the Philippines is the Baro't saya and the Barong
•Expensive dresses, the ones made for novelty (mestizos) are made with the fiber of piña, and because of this, the clothes are transparent and people had to wear undergarments (Corpiño and Enaguas for girls and Camisan or camiseta for boys)
•Baro't saya has 4 parts:
a. the baro or camisa (blouse)
b. the saya or falda (skirt)
c. kerchief or panuelo (the cloth placed on the shoulders)
d. tapis or patadyong (the cloth warpped around the waist)
•the 4 types Filipiniana
a. Maria Clara/traje de mestiza - bell shaped sleeves, long saya, aristocratic.
b. Visayan kimona - poncho like baro, patadyong.
(Before the spanish came, women only needed to wear the patadyong, the saya was introduced by the spanish because the patadyong was considered too short)
c. Terno - most modernized, butterfly sleeves, unionized dress, american coloial era. Imelda Marcos style
d. Balintawak - more casual, shorter skirt, butterfly sleeves, colorful, paired with a tapis and a bandana.
•aristocratic women avoided using the tapis/patadyong as it connected to pre colonial roots
•pechara is the rectangular swction on the front of the Barong tagalog
Variations of the Barong Tagalog
•Barong Mahaba- oldest type of baro (spanish colonial era), can be striped with bold colors (RBB), no buttons, high collars and elizabthian ruffs and cravat, worn with trousers, top hats, and corchos shoes.
•Barro Cerrada- mid 19th century, (closed baro), neck collar, opaque material, ussually worn with white pants, untucked
•Pinukpok - coat like, worn by village leaders and governors, abaca material
•Pierre Cardia -Ferdinand Marcos' style, close fitting, oversized collars ( Elvis Presly collars) cuffs, flared sleeves and pants
•Polo Barong- modernized Barong, short sleeves, either made from linen, cotton or ramie. Least formal but is used as uniforms in schools and offices.
•Gusót mayaman - wrinkled shirt of the rich, line barong, can be used as office wear.
During the american colonial era, the Barong fell out of style, the most common attire for filipino men at the time was the Americana and othe western suits and tuxes.

The BarongsRUs Organza Collection is an exquisite testament to the fusion of tradition and contemporary style. Made from the delicate and ethereal Organza fabric, this collection embodies grace, beauty, and the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. As we dive into the details of this collection, you’ll discover how Organza fabric elevates Filipino fashion to a new level of sophistication.
Tumblr media
Organza Fabric: A Sheer Elegance
Organza, renowned for its sheer, lightweight, and almost translucent quality, is the cornerstone of this collection. Its luxurious feel and subtle sheen make it the perfect choice for those who seek a blend of elegance and comfort. The delicate drape and flow of Organza fabric lend an ethereal quality to each piece, turning these Barong Tagalogs into works of art.
The Traditional Barong Redefined
While embracing the tradition of the Barong Tagalog, the Organza Collection redefines it with subtle and sophisticated modern elements. The traditional straight point collar, intricate embroidery, and the iconic four-button front are preserved, anchoring these pieces in the timeless Filipino style.
Tumblr media
However, it’s the use of Organza fabric that sets these Barong Tagalogs apart. The sheerness of the fabric allows for a subtle play of color and texture, creating a delicate interplay between classic and contemporary that is both striking and subtle.
The Barongs R Us Organza Collection is more than just clothing; it’s a statement of grace, beauty, and cultural significance. It celebrates the rich tradition of the Barong Tagalog while redefining it with the sheer elegance of Organza fabric. When you choose a Barong Tagalog from this collection, you’re choosing to embrace tradition with a contemporary twist, to honor your heritage with sophistication, and to express your unique style with a timeless, versatile piece of Filipino fashion. Explore the Organza Collection and immerse yourself in a symphony of elegance and delicacy.

CHANGE IS SUBJECTIVE
Our world faces changes for how many times from ourselves, culture, education system, beliefs, political, economic, aesthetic pattern and religious. Change become subjective because of influences and adaptations of one´s idea to another until the community or society accept it; used it as culture; and later on, normalized of using of it.
I entitled my journal as change is subjective because maybe I was influenced by Heraclitus idea when he said that the only permanent in this world is change and also Sigmund Freud in our lesson of Understanding the self, he quoted there that the “I” will never be the same and it will change over time, because the only permanent in this world is change (Heraclitus), and with this two philosophers, I integrate their ideas about change, that change is constant and will continue overtime.
When I was a kid I thought that there`s no permanent in this world that everything would passed and fade away. Afterwards when I was in pre-college formation I have glimpse topic idea of Intro to Philo as the title itself says Intro therefore a glimpse or foretaste of ideas about the philosophy then suddenly I had read the idea of Heraclitus about change and that moment intrigued me because it says that change is constant and permanent in this world and my belief were shaken for I have this idea that there`s no permanent in this world, suddenly by the help of meditation it enlighten me that change is constant and permanent in this world like example; our culture from being preservative to independent to explain it in a narrow sense from my kind if idea, example; delivering a message or a love letter to the beloved in past era people used the manual of delivering a message like bird or a prophet beyond (BC) where people walked to deliver a information or message, Second Education system, from the use of chalk and board or what we called manual, into automatic like, projector the one call away and the topic easily flashback. Third the aesthetic pattern, we Filipinos wearing barong Tagalog for boys and Filipiniana for girls. This is the aesthetic pattern of Filipinos but because of influences of other culture we adapt their kind of style because it looks new and not to be behind in new fashions and to let go also from ignorance. Fourth, Religious, this aspect also change for better improvement of virtues, it change for a great demand to become holy or righteous such as; proper execute of meditation, to be more Christ image, to be a synodal church, and strictly abstain to the call of the flesh.
This reflection I have a glimpse of it the culture, education system, beliefs, political, economic, aesthetic pattern and religious. But there´s one statement I would like to share, The Change of the self or ourselves. I see it clearly that self is gradually change from example; Immature to mature, infant to old and from fat to thin. This are the basic changes of ourselves that are inevitable but the whole agenda there is change that`s why Sigmund Freud state that the (“I” will never be the same) (because the only permanent in this world is change) – Heraclitus. People change because of experiences particularly responsibilities, it is not the age that cause of change but through responsibilities, it is not our will to remain infant but because of our responsibilities to carry the cross and tribulations. One need to grow and grasp that responsibilities because man is comparable to an empty space that gather informations and experiences like; tribulations, misery, joy, and adversities for this is where the self from and shape and the cause of change like my favorite anime entitled Naruto it quoted there that “Sometimes you must hurt in order to know, fall in order to grow, lose in order to gain, because life`s great lesson are learned through pain” - (PAIN) that`s why other people change because of pain, influences and adaptation.
To sum it up, change is subjective for we lived in a world where experiences, influences and adaptation shapes us to become a better person of ourselves, better society, better community and better ideas that never been possessed, that`s why in this vacation I prefer to decorate our house full of good influences and experiences for my better improvement and change of myself rather than things that symbolizes materialistic. Hence change is everywhere, every time, everything all at once.
