Some excerpts from the new Lando Norris biography
Tumblr media
Although Lando was born into a rich family, his dad, Adam Norris, did not come from wealth himself. Adam's dad was a farmer & mum was a teacher. Adam has dyslexia and he was terrible at school and hated it. So he always has the mentality of working harder than anyone else to success
Lando and his brother Oli tried horse riding, quadbike and motorbike before eventually got into karting. Lando was 7 yo when he first started racing in karts
Adam was not willing to just buy the best equipment for his sons, instead he wanted to develop them. He approached Mark Berryman and Fraser Sheader in 2011 for help, Mark and Fraser has just founded ADD management in 2010 and their philosophy is on "developing and nurturing talents" rather than "just place them in teams", so they matched perfectly.
Mark on first meeting Lando: "for at least the first nine months he didn't listen to a word I said. "(😂😂) They were doing great with Oli because he was listening, but Lando just wasn't listening, but even then he's still winning races because he's really fast
Lando is the polar opposite now: he listens to everything Mark suggests. Brazil GP 2022 when Lando was on track, Mark texted Jon some suggestions, and Lando tried it straightaway. Out of Mark's students now, Lando is the best at "if you put something forward, he just does it".
Lando was so incredibly fast at that early age that people were convinced he/the team was cheating. One race when he was in the junior category, his lap time was so incredible that it would have put him in top 6 in the senior category
Lando had two crucial meetings in 2014, one was Jon Malvern, who's still his trainer to this day, the other was Trevor Carlin, who's the boss of the Carlin team, with which Lando competed from 2015 to 2018
Fraser approached Zak Brown in August 2016 to help bring some commercial values to ADD management. Zak at the time was the co-owner of United Autosports, a sports-car team. They agreed on a deal, and Zak then became part of the core Norris team together with Jon, Mark and Fraser. Little did they know Zak would soon became CEO of McLaren (😂)
February 2017. Charlotte Sefton was setting up a filming event on the Boulevard of MTC. She was making sure no one is on the Boulevard, tours was canceled, etc, apart from one guy "Lando Norris", who's a "VIP guest" and "it's top secret". Charlotte went "who's this guy?" and looked up on the Internet. (😂) Later that day she saw this shy kid got out of a Mini, said "hello" to her and walked to Zak's office. Days later Lando was confirmed as a junior driver for McLaren
(This book isn't as interesting as I initially thought, it's mostly "Norris raced in xxx series in year xxxx and did xyz"; but it does have a lot of quotes from people around him & some behind-the-scenes stories)

@fortheloveofaussiegrit 's deep dive into Mark and his love of twinks...
Sebastian Vettel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where does one even start when trying to explain this... that's his twink of the past, present, and future— his forever. [first: debatable but the beginning of martian at the Fuji GP 2007 when Seb crashed into the back of Mark ruining both of their races, they were running 2nd and third. second: the day i lost my sanity, Abu Dhabi 2022]
Oscar Piastri
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His twink of the present [i don't think i need to say anything... but photos above are from Mark's website from his blog post about Oscar winning the F2 championship and how Mark stayed in Abu Dhabi with Oscar after the GP for the young driver f1 test...]
Mitch Evans
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Without Mitch we wouldn’t have got Oscar/Mark... (this is what oscarmark could’ve been but not sure i would’ve been able to handle oscar posting mark the way mitch did) Started in 2010, Mark then went on to manage him and Mitch even moved into Mark’s home in England, down the drive but point still stands [first: Mark Webber takes protege on birthday tour, 2010 (speedcafe.com) second: Mark embracing Mitch after he took maiden victory in Formula E, 2019 (📷Sam Bloxham) bottom two: from Mitch’s IG circa 2014]
Daniel Ricciardo

i like that belt buckle mate [first/second: F1 Paddock 2013 (📷skysports.com) third: Mark & Daniel’s BBQ on the beach ahead of the Aus GP 2011 (📷flickr) fourth/fifth: Dutch GP 2022.]

Fernando Alonso
Tumblr media
again do i need to say anything? i think this sums it up (thank you to @seafoampearlygirl for the screen shot and your help too, much appreciated!!
Tumblr media
and this... [Jenson Button, Giancarlo Fisichella, Fernando Alonso & Mark Webber for Benetton Renault 2001 F1 launch]
Lewis Hamilton
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there's one thing about Mark that you need to know its his love of twinks with world championships... @mwebber has a post here on these two! Mark always loves talking about Lewis and the way they look at each other.. [first: Mark and Lewis during the post-qualy presser at the Spanish GP, 2010 (📷Sutton Images) second: during the pre-race presser at the Aus GP, 2013 (📷Hoch Zwei) third: Abu Dhabi GP, 2017 (📷James Moy)]
Nico Rosberg

from teammates at Williams to Mark snapping pics of the back of Nico in 2023… [first: Mark talking to test driver Nico Rosberg during the German GP, 2005 (📷Pakusch) second: Monaco ePrix 2023]
Max Verstappen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like i said... twinks with championships [first: ‘bumped into these two over easter and managed a few k on the trails’ Apr, 2018 (Mark’s FB) second: Hangar-7, 2019]
Felipe Massa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah... [first: Brazil 2012, i think (📷sky-sports.com) second: Brazil 2013 (📷xpb images)]
Brendon Hartley
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he’s already featured a few times, but from rbr junior driver to teammate... yeah.. is there a pattern? [first: Spanish GP 2009 (📷DPPI Images) second: Brendon, Mark & Timo after winning the 6 hours of Bahrain and the WEC Drivers Championship 2015 (📷fiawec.com)]
Jenson Button
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and finally we get to Jenson Button, who, yes, is younger than Mark so makes it onto the list... the ultimate twink on twink... you cannot tell me this wasnt a couples holidays covered up as ‘training’. you cannot tell me they were not fumbling around in their bedsheets at night. you cannot tell me— [redacted redacted redacted] — [pre-season training session in Lanzarote, Spain. 4 Jan 2001 📷Mark Thompson]

Which of sebs wdc do you like the best?
i don’t acc know
like 2010 u kno youngest wdc, massive outsider, only led the championship once
2011 finished every race bar 2 on the podium and only finished 3rd once, lowest finishing position was 4th (which i find so joke it happened at his home gp of all places) n other than him only mark webber got pole with 3 n lewis hamilton with 1
2012 that abu dhabi n brazil comeback drive was something else n i wish i watched f1 then so i could’ve seen that in real time
then 2013, like first of all blonde seb (hunny u wasn’t fooling anyone when u said it was from the sun) and second of all he was a chaotic demon like so chaotic n u kno what it paid off cos hello he won 13 out of the 19 races that year
but also i can’t imagine how tough 2013 must’ve been for seb u kno with him being booed n that like i remember him saying it was tough mentally for him n im glad he preserved through all that n came out so successful too
here’s hoping we can say 5 for 5 n add to the collection one day (my little james bond green mafia team im throwing dagger eyes at u) but for now 4 for 5 will have to do!

Jenson Button believes Lewis Hamilton is stalling on a new deal due to worries about Mercedes car
Jenson Button believes Lewis Hamilton is stalling on a new deal with Mercedes because he has worries about their car this season... as he insists he is relishing watching the battle between the seven-time world champion and team-mate George Russell The new Formula One season is set to get underway in Bahrain this weekend  Lewis Hamilton is yet to extend his Mercedes contract which expires this year Jenson Button believes Hamilton is stalling until he sees how their car performs  By Will Pickworth For Mailonline Published: 08:10 EST, 28 February 2023 | Updated: 08:10 EST, 28 February 2023 Jenson Button thinks Lewis Hamilton is holding off on committing to a new deal with Mercedes until he sees how competitive they will be this season. Hamilton, 38, who is chasing a record eighth world championship title before retirement, is yet to pen an extension to his current deal which expires at the end of 2023. Mercedes have been insisting that a new multi-year deal is a formality ever since the end of last season. Team principal Toto Wolff said last month it was just a question of 'sticking our heads together, wrestling a bit, and then leaving the room with white smoke after a few hours'. However, at the launch of Mercedes' new car earlier this month, Wolff was then reluctant to commit to a specific time-frame for the signing of a new contract. Jenson Button thinks his former McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton is holding off on committing to a new deal with Mercedes until he sees how competitive they will be this season The 38-year-old is yet to pen an extension despite speculation that a new deal is imminent And Button, who won the world championship back in 2009 and was a former team-mate of Hamilton's at McLaren for three years from 2010-2012, had a theory as to why he hasn't yet signed an extension. 'It has to be that (wanting to know how competitive they are this season) right?', he told The Telegraph.  'Why otherwise would you leave it this late? He knows how annoying we all are asking [about the contract].  'I mean, we’ve got to ask the question. But he’s going to hate answering it over and over and over and over again. It can only be because he's wondering how competitive they will be.' Mercedes had a mixed performance during a three-day testing in Bahrain last week and Button insisted this is only likely to delay Hamilton's decision. He added: 'Is he going to sign if the car is uncompetitive because he wants it to be quick again before he retires? 'Or is he thinking "If it's not better, I'm just going to retire." Who knows?' Button also claimed Red Bull are the favourites for this season's Constructors' Championship, but that he was excited to watch the battle between Mercedes team-mates Hamilton and George Russell. The 43-year-old explained: 'I think it's a great fight. You know, they're both so talented. One’s obviously got more world championships than anyone else.  'But George, you know, he's just great, he really is. In terms of his driving, in terms of his engineering skills. I think he's a great talent.' Button thinks Hamilton (third from right) has worries about Mercedes' car for the new season  Button also insisted he is excited for the battle between Russell and Hamilton this season Russell earned 35 more points than Hamilton during the 2022 season and picked up Mercedes' only victory last season at the Brazil GP in Sao Paulo.   However, Button fully expects the challenge to be tougher for the promising Russell this year.  He explained: 'First year, it's easy because there's no real pressure on your shoulders. Nobody expects you to beat Lewis Hamilton.  'But second year in, it's like "Now we're gonna see what you can do." So I’m looking forward to watching that. They’re both hopefully going to be fighting for wins.'
