race winner sebastian vettel is interviewed during the post-race press conference, japan - october 10, 2010 (transcript under the cut)
Interviewer: "The top three drivers in the 2010 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix. In third place, for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, Fernando Alonso; in second place, for Red Bull Racing, Mark Webber; and taking the win for Red Bull Racing in the team's third 1-2 of the season, Sebastian Vettel. Seb, last season, pole and the win. This year, pole and the win, and all n the space of just one day." Seb: "Yeah. Incredible day, obviously, this morning with qualifying and the pole position, and this afternoon we just continued, so fantastic. I think it was down to the team. They have been working very hard. Most of the guys, they didn't sleep from Thursday to Saturday, so actually was good that there was no quali so they didn't have to touch the car and then cut some sleep, and I think they deserve it today. Obviously this track is, like, drawn for us. With all the high-speed corners it's always a pleasure, and with the car getting lighter and lighter in the end it's just more and more fun, and yeah, incredible. Good start, which was obviously the key from the clean side, and I could see Robert obviously got a bit of momentum, but the way down to turn one was too short for him. And then with the safety car, which stayed out quite long, obviously, with the incident with Kubica… But then after that I think both of us were able to pull away from the field and just controlling the pace until the end. There was a little bit of a rest behind Jenson because we couldn't really go through him, so we had to wait until he pits, but after that, just incredible. So really, really happy, and it's about time." [laughs] Interviewer: "You looked to have the race pretty much under control from the off, but Mark was putting you under some serious pressure after the pit stops, wasn't he?" Seb: "Yeah, I mean, obviously in his position he tries to push. I know that overtaking is not so easy and obviously… I think I just went as fast as I had to. Obviously I could see that we were pulling away. I was mainly given the pace Fernando was doing for the majority of the race. Obviously I can see Mark when he's about one, two, three seconds behind, so [laughs] as I said, obviously with Button in the middle after the pit stop halfway through the race we had to, yeah, back off a bit, and then once he pulled obviously it was free fast to go. But, as you said, it was pretty much controlled until the end, so just trying to carry the car home. But still you want to push every single lap because the car is magnificent around here. Just feels fantastic, so really happy." Interviewer: "Congratulations. Well done." [time jump] Interviewer: "Back to you. You're now tied for second in the championship. Only two drivers have ever taken back-to-back wins at suzuka other than yourself-Mika Häkkinen and Michael Schumacher-and they both went on to win the title. It's a pretty good omen." Seb: "I guess! I wouldn't mind, obviously. No, I'm very proud. I love this circuit. It's always special to come here. The fans, I think, the atmosphere for all of us is special. And yeah, it's the first time I win a grand prix for the second time, so I think ultimately you have to fall in love with this track. And yeah, very proud, so as you say. Think that's a good omen, so I wouldn't mind." [laughs] Interviewer: "Thank you very much, guys. Congrats."

Sebtember Challenge #23:
Success at Suzuka
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did you know Sebastian Vettel has won in Japan 4 times, all of which were with Red Bull? He won in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013.
🇯🇵🏆🏆🏆🏆
The other times he’d won 4 races were in Malaysia (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015) and Bahrain (2012, 2013, 2017, 2018).

@katsu-at-the-bottom  answered:
ASTRAY :  for both muses to take a detour and lose their way.
X-Human were traveling north to their next gig in the middle of the night with their newest member Jinta joining them in their van. Up ahead, the road was severely clogged up due to an accident. Katsu, at the wheel, let out a frustrated grunt and took the next turn to avoid a complete standstill for who knows how long.
With the rest of the band asleep in the back, there was no one else but Jinta riding shotgun to help navigate. Boy, did Katsu need some navigation because the detour led them way off: they were in a small fishing village somewhere east.
Tumblr media
“Oh… What the fuck?”
“Dude... is that a harbor?” Jinta squinted ahead through the bug-splattered, spotty windshield. Then stared at the map in his lap. Then squinted again. “No, no, no... this is so stupid.” Stupid to be using this crappy old map, crisscrossed with creases and ringed with coffee stains. There was this new thing called GPS that could’ve steered them clear but oh no, the old man wasn’t sharing any of his tech until Jinta earned it, whatever the fuck that meant... his mind replayed, in a mocking version of the boss’s voice, some bullshit speech about how a young man must find his own way...
“How?!” This wasn’t his fault. Couldn’t be his fault. In the grey light of early dawn he felt a cold terror grip him, and slowly, hesitantly, under his horror-stricken gaze, rotated the map ninety degrees. ...shit.
Tumblr media
Shoulders sagging, he flopped back against the seat, staring defeatedly into the early morning fog, dimly aware of the cries of seagulls outside the van. “Well... now what?”

Vettonso x Similar Helmets
SV Germany 2012 x FA Monaco 2013: Gold & Dark Red
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think a lot about Vettonso and their mutual relationship witn gold. They're both golden boys, they're both seen lit gold by the sunshine on many podiums throughout the years, both have worn golden boots, and as you can see here: both have worn golden helmets. The parallels in these particular helmets makes me feel insane. Both are: gold with dark red accents, both have their birthplace's coat of arms(Bergstraße and Asturias), both have team animal motifs, and both have symbols to represent their two championships(You by now know the signifigance of the ones on Fernando's helmet, but I think the ones on Seb's are actually a callback to his Formula BMW days when he used to put the smiley stickers on his car for every win.)
And did you know both of these helmets were designed by the same helmet design company? Yep, both of these are JMD helmets. I know JMD helmets are/were pretty popular, but still, there's something to me about Fernando commissioning the same designer that Seb has been using since he was a literal child. Parallels, am I right?
SV Japan 2010 x FA Japan 2023: White with Black & Red
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haha I remember @protocolseben and I discussing this a bit back in September when Fernando's helmet dropped. I honestly think Seb is such an innovator and trailblazer in terms of helmet design, and you can see his influence in helmet design as recently as this past season. I'm not sure if he was the first ever driver to don a matte white helmet with red accents as a representation of the Japanese flag, but it certainly envoked him in my mind when I saw Fernando's!!
I think Fernando's is pretty similar to all of Seb's 2010-2012 Japan helmets but I like this one the most so! I think if Seb wasn't restrained by the Red Bull logo, he def wouldv'e put the red circle where Nando put his so I think Fernando did a really good job, even if unintentionally, at emulating Seb's sense of design.
SV Singapore 2012 x FA Singapore 2012: Sparkly!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like I said in the one above, it's crazy how much Seb influenced helmet design. He was pretty much the pioneer of sparkly helmets for Singapore, right? It drives me absolutely insane that there's actually pictures of them together in such similar designed helmets. It's kinda funny actually that even though they're pretty deep in the championship fight at this point, and Seb just got one up on Fernando; Fernando is wearing a helmet that is a direct influence from Seb!!! Is that not insane???
Also, Fernando trying to be camp with trying the now in vogue sparkly Singapore helmet, and Seb accidentally completely blew him out of the water with his outrageous light up LED constellation helmet. But god yeah....to have pics of them in matching helmets from this era particuarly makes me emotional ;;;
SV Hungary 2021 x FA 2022: Pink with Dark Blue
Tumblr media
I really could've picked any of Seb's 2021 helmets, but I thought this one matched the best with Fernando's main 2021 helmet(with the color pallet.) Also one thing, it's crazy how much control BWT has as a sponsor, I don't think I've ever seen another sponsor go so hard at having a chokehold on individuality. I like that we got pink liveries and pink helmets, but I don't think they should have that much control.
I'm almost kinda sad there wasn't any Miami GP in 2021, because I think that was the only unique helmet Fernando had in 2022. But these match pretty well! Pretty in pink!! It's crazy that their parallels in the 2020s are ongoing even before Fernando actually takes over Seb's seat. Thanks BWT I guess?
SV Abu Dhabi 2022 x FA Abu Dhabi 2022: Fernando's Seb Tribute Helmet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND HERE WE HAVE THE PIÈCE DE RÉSISTANCE!!! The ultimate conclusion, it literally couldn't get better than this!! This is still unbelievable, like how is this an actual thing that happened!? Fernando intentionally branding his helmet, the only symbol of individuality in F1, with his rival's flag colors, HIS FLAG!!!!! Not to mention the literal "Vettono Best Moments" collage he posted alongside it....and the hand-holding....and everything that happened with them at Abu Dhabi 2022....
But god, after years of incidentally making parallel helmet designs, Fernando decided to officially tie the knot of the red string of fate, and make a helmet directly referencing Seb's. I think it's funny because as I said with two of the previously mentioned ones, those Fernando designs are pretty much inspired by Seb's, and here he is openly making one directly inspired by Seb. I don't really have words for how this actually makes me feel because it's just. Yeah. The most open and clear declaration of love and respect and admiration one could ever make. TO ME.
#all of my posts subheading should be: 'its probably not that deep BUT-'#i can't believe ive made two deeply researched and beloved posts in a row one day after the other#posts sponsored by: 12 am red bull consumption. my all-consuming devotion and love for vettonso. and my unwillingness to do schoolwork#i mean i felt a lot of emotions and had fun making it but like. hey. could you put this effort into school?#anyways feeling deeply emotionally affected about helmets and their symbolism#i think in the entirety of f1 seb and fernando are two of the most dedicated and passionate about helmet designs and symbolism?#so this post is very special to me :] helmet fuckers unite <3#again: they say they aren't friends and don't share any hobbies and im just staring at them like YOU IDIOTS!!!#its just that spongebob meme of him pointing out the trashcans. like guys. be fr rn. you totally share hobbies#both like helmet design. paddel and pingpong. sustainability. cars. racing. european football. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON#well im glad they swapped helmets at some point(i think nando gave seb two pretty old ones as well. now thats dedication!)#if they werent cowards i bet they couldve also had a 5+ hour long discussion about helmet design ;;;;;;#thinking also about how fernando has one of seb's in his museum >:) but if only it were one of the ones on this list. sigh.#normal posts that catie normally makes in a normal fashion#well lmk if theres any other vettonso helmets you think are similar!!! im pretty blind to seb helmets that arent rbr era tbh#sebastian vettel#fernando alonso#f1#formula 1#vettonso#we do a little bit of f1

Red Bull and its everchanging driver lineup will forever be interesting to me. The Red Bull ecosystem/family/industrial complex, whatever it is that you want to call it, is something that knows no stability whatsoever.
Very rarely is there stability in the driver lineup for both Red Bull-affiliated teams.
Recency bias may have us thinking that this revolving door of Red Bull drivers has only occurred since 2016 or 2018. Because the Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber lineup was stable, as was the Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen lineup. Not to mention that Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly were teammates for two seasons! And let's not forget the days of David Coulthard and Mark Webber.
Despite those examples of stable lineups, there is always instability occurring at one of the teams, if not both.
Looking through the years, I compiled a list of every driver who's driven for Red Bull or Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri. So, every new driver, every single race change, mid-season swap. If there was a change, then it is listed.
Tumblr media
In bold are the drivers currently driving for either Red Bull or AlphaTauri with the most recent first GP start. Lines 28 and 30 with Kyvat and Gasly mark the period in which Toro Rosso became AlphaTauri. The duration counts how many days are between the first GP and the last GP.
Some fun facts that I learned while making this:
Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi were supposed to trade off every four races in 2005. However, after Liuzzi's four races, Klien finished off the season.
Robert Doornbos is the only Red Bull/Toro Rosso driver to not have a full time drive within the Red Bull industrial complex.
Daniil Kyvat was replaced for the second time in less than two years during his 2016-2017 run. He was replaced by Pierre Gasly for Malaysia and Japan in 2017 due to underwhelming results, then returned for the US GP when Gasly was competing in a Super Formula race. In the end, despite Toro Rosso saying that Gasly was not a permanent replacement and Kyvat was still a part of the Red Bull family, he did not finish out the season and would not return until 2019, making it his third time leaving and coming back to Toro Rosso. (And funnily enough, his 2019 return was to replace Gasly.)
Drivers who have driven for the longest in the Red Bull industrial complex:
Max Verstappen: 3170 days and counting (also has the longest run with only one team - 2757 days and counting)
Sebastian Vettel: 2520 days
Mark Webber: 2443 days
Daniel Ricciardo: 2379 days
Daniil Kyvat: 1793 days
Drivers who have driven the least total days:
Robert Doornbos: 21 days
Liam Lawson: 42 days
Nyck De Vries: 126 days
Brendon Hartley: 399 days
Alex Albon: 469 days
The table, while helpful, doesn't fully allow us to visualize just how unstable the driver lineups are. So, I made a timeline:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(please ignore that driver names aren't in the same places between pictures. the website I was using only allowed 18 events at a time, so there was some shuffling around.)
The driver changes on the top portion in each picture is Red Bull and on the bottom portion, it is Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri.
Maybe this is normal? You know, F1` is a sport that changes all the time. Every year we've had sprint races, it has been different. So, maybe driver changes so often are just the norm?
While there is no direct comparison (as is the case for almost everything in Formula 1), two other current teams on the grid had their first races in the 21st century -- Mercedes and Haas.
Mercedes might have one of the most stable driver lineups. Since 2010, they have only had five drivers. With the exception of George Russell filling in for Lewis Hamilton in 2020 for one race, all drivers raced every race they were supposed to.
Tumblr media
Haas, similar to Mercedes, finished driver contracts and didn't make mid-season changes. The only exception was Pietro Fittipaldi completing the 2020 season after Romain Grosjean's crash.
Tumblr media
Again, it's not a direct comparison, but there is a very visible difference.
Mercedes has had a stable lineup because they had their world champion driver and a teammate who could be there to pick up the points. Red Bull technically has the same with Max and Sergio now and did have the same with Sebastian and Mark.
But there's a key difference between the Red Bull industrial complex and teams like Mercedes and Haas. Red Bull, for as long as it has been in Formula One, has had a neverending list of drivers waiting in the wings. The Red Bull juniors are like a hydra - you cut off one head and two grow back. One Red Bull junior leaves, there's at least a handful to replace him.
Haas can't develop junior drivers and Mercedes tends to focus their attention on just one or two juniors. They don't have a list of drivers that they can pick and choose to replace a driver. They also don't have a junior team from which they can shuffle things around.
I doubt that Red Bull will ever have the same long-standing driver lineups like other teams, but I am curious to see if the reduced junior drivers will allow for some stability in AlphaTauri (or Racing Bulls I guess).

LMAO sorry!!!! idk why i assumed you would just magically know which photo i was thinking of 😭😭😭 im talking abt the photo where mark and seb are both smiling at each other and shrugging- i think if you google something along the lines of “mark webber sebastian vettel after istanbul” it should come up? for guidance- it looks a lot like a random stock photo, white background harsh lighting goofy over exaggerated pose etc etc
ppl joke abt the photo because it was taken after they both crashed into each other in turkey and rbr took a neutral stance. everyone thought tension was high so rbr response was to make them take a photo where they’re both just 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ <- like that lol. (@ sebniverse has the photo on their twitter account as well if you can’t find it on google!! they replied to a tweet that was like “how do you resolve workplace conflict” with the photo. lol)
((although honestly you are right. there are so many iconic seb and mark photos, and i would love to see them all applied to coanda effect stsg))
AHAHA omg thAT ONE!! im not as well versed in the vettel-webber rivalry as i am in rosberg-hamilton lmao
Tumblr media
this fuckass image.
anon is referring to this collision, if anyone wants to watch it, from the Turkish GP 2010.
uh-- no is the short answer. the rivalry stsg have in coanda effect is very under-the-radar and backhanded right up until japan 2014, at which point the team/getou isn't interested in PR damage control or making the two seem like best friends. so something like this would be something unlikely.
its funny to imagine it though LMAOO
(if i had a nickel for every time RBR had a crash between its older aussie driver and a blonde prodigy and the prodigy was clearly at fault but red bull took a "neutral stance" pissing off the aussie and causing tension in the team id have two nickels. not a lot but weird it happened twice!)
(i hate red bull racing /lh)
HOWEVER
i have webber-vettel images linked for monaco 2010 cited as insp on ao3, including their pool celebrations and this from when they jumped in the sea, which just so happened to be IRL monaco 2010 (a complete coincidence!!)
Tumblr media
which. yea
Tumblr media
theyre insane
Tumblr media
feel like f1 always peaks in monaco. the aura of these images is insane
(@s4turn-ly u wanted references? this is 2010 so gojo would be in blue/gold and getou in red) (NO PRESSURE!!!!)
