Hey, so, offhand, I decided to change the password to my Microsoft account, and I happened to stumble upon my sign-in attempt history...
So here's your reminder to change your password!
If it's been over a year since your last password change, this is your sign to go change it now!
Change it every few months, even! And if you don't wanna do that, at least add two-factor authentication!

"Concerningly, it is not yet known who originally owned most of the data batches making up the breach. This means that clear action items to wipe your data from these collections cannot be issued, nor can researchers tell what attacks were being considered for the data... databases that serve to warn users about their compromised data have not yet been populated with the leaked accounts. Internet browsers like Firefox or Chrome that warn users of compromised credentials or third-party tools like Cybernews' data leak checker haven't yet been updated with the newly revealed stolen credentials."
Time to change your passwords, again...

friendly reminder to CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS.
Apple, Google, Facebook, and others just suffered a data breach. At least 16 BILLION passwords (yes, with a B) have been exposed.
This may be the largest data breach in history. Stay safe, don't reuse the same password, and for the love of god, MAKE IT COMPLICATED.

ATTENTION!! IMPORTANT!!
PLEASE READ THIS!
There has been a data breach across all social media platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. I urge you RIGHT NOW to change ALL your social media passwords and make sure two factor authentication is on!
If you have gotten this on your TikTok, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY AND PUT TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION ON!

And if you STILL don’t believe me, I was in the middle of changing my password for my scp account (my third account on insta) and I got this notification:

I DO NOT LIVE IN IPSWHICH! I am a FIVE HOUR DRIVE from Ipswich. Thankfully, they didn’t manage to get into my account and I verified that it was NOT me.
Please, reblog this and send it to all your mutuals and friends, even to people who don’t have Tumblr, SPREAD THE WORD!!

wow i just got a very sophisticated phishing email that like, if the rest of the message hadn't been the generic "i see what you do online give me bitcoin" threat, it would have scared me at first
#it displayed like it was sent from my own email#and they included a 'password' of mine#which was one from when i was in high school that you can find online because of data breaches#but if the message hadn't been so stupid that i was sure they weren't actually in my account I'd have been worried

i don't know how to say this nicely but maybe you shouldn't be parading around how much you hate two factor authentication on a public website
#hate modern technology and web 3.0 all you want but 2fa is a good thing#don't be surprised when your one reused password and email get revealed in a data breach and all your accounts get compromised lol

Passkeys being supported so many places lately are the best thing to happen to authentication in the last 20 years.
If you have a good password manager and save passkeys to it, it’s finally as convenient to sign in as it was back when nothing had multifactor and you just typed your one memorized password into everything.
#btw speaking of password managers#if you’re still using LastPass switch#even after their huge breach which was only even as big an deal as it was because their security is so much worse than the competition#i see so many people using it‚ including IT professionals with cybersecurity responsibilities#seriously go find something better#at my last job i actually did a lot of research on the actual security of password managers and compared a bunch of options#and the two i would recommend based on that research are 1Password and Bitwarden#or for a FOSS option there’s KeePassXC

The fact that Shiodake was already planning to leave everything to Yukari makes me wonder if he was always intending to turn over his secrets. It's never made clear when Shiodake learned she was a mole, but from Yukari's message to him, she suspected that he and his minions knew the truth long before her death. It's possible Shiodake was getting tired of the yazuka lifestyle, and decided to leave all the sensitive information to Yukari because he trusted her to do the right thing with it—whether he knew she was a spy at the time is up for debate, but considering how easily he hands over the information to Kengo without any consideration, this was probably a move he'd been thinking about for a while regardless of Yukari's loyalties. Yukari's death (thanks to corrupt politicians HE helped put into office, no less) simply gave him a reason to speed up the process.
#i also think it's worth pointing out that shiodake hadn't changed any of his passwords#the smart thing to do after discovering yukari was a spy would be to immediately change his passwords to prevent a security breach#the fact that he *didn't* is proof that he'd really loved yukari#and possibly that he didn't care any more#like it's a “let them come” situation where he's just straight up done with everything#mission yozakura family#sage rambles

According to my phone, the password I've used for hundreds of accounts across many websites, since the day I was born, has been leaked in a data breach. If my parents find out, I will probably never be allowed touch anything with an internet connection ever again (this is hardly even an exaggeration). I may be stupid...

Let's be real, if anyone actually cares about online security then they have unique passwords for every site that are just an incomprehensible string of characters. And they wouldn't use a digital keychain, they'd keep that shit written in a physical journal that they shove under their mattress when they're not actively transcribing a password.
#the key to cybersecurity is to keep the cyber part as minimal as possible#it's gonna be a lot harder for someone to physically enter your house and read the passwords from a journal under your mattress#than for them to just ctrl+f your username or email in the latest data breach#and yeah you could put a TXT file full of passwords on your desktop but that's only actually secure until some malware scrapes your system#and no I don't do this because I actually don't give a shit about my online security#i sleep in a shed with a ground floor window#I'm more concerned about getting murdered in my sleep#cybersecurity#bullshittery

These are all the sites that have been affected!
Keep in mind that some companies here own many other companies, such as TenCent owns Discord, for example.
Please also feel free to use haveibeenpwned.com to check if any accounts you have associated with any email have been compromised. (If it is found that you have, change the passwords for those accounts as well. This is something you can do periodically to protect your accounts.)
Change your Tumblr password now.
Humongous data breach just happened, with loads upon loads of sites being affected. Tumblr's among those. Also on the list is Wattpad for you fanfic people out there- among many, many other places.
There's a searchable list at the bottom of the article. Highly recommend scrolling or searching through, seeing what places you may be on that have been affected, and securing all your accounts. This thing's kind of big.
If you know people on any of the sites affected, let them know about this too, and spread the article around.
