Well. This isn't what I was expecting. But the whole thing is silly (the song, the video, the stories around the song) so I guess we should take it as what it is : a non serious episode. It has some funny moments, she teased him back as much as he did.
And the commentary on the song was funny in a way but it was like a PARALLEL UNIVERSE 🤣
I guess it would have been better to watch their facial expressions on a video.
Let's hope no one will pick this one as their 1st episode on Fail Better.
I really hope for a thoughtful, emotional episode next week because the last 3 weren't really my jam. And I don't want his podcast to end with an episode I won't appreciate 😉.
To clarify I don't know if the podcast will end after 40 episodes. It seems it was the deal (he told me that in July 2024 during the last M&G) but he may continue after that. I hope he will. Because most of the episodes were really great.
UPDATE: I have listened to it more than 3 times now and I must admit that it put a large smile on my face. So give it a chance 😉
She called him SOB and adorable in the same time frame 😉
#david duchovny#bree Sharp#fail better#also... no premium#they should have labelled this one as “a special” or something like that#david duchovny why won't you love me

I think it's the other way around: he has side projects precisely because he can't find work as an actor - so much so that he'll drop everything if there's an invitation to film. The side projects are a good excuse to say why he's disappeared from the limelight - and he's not good in any other area - at least not good enough to be successful or make a living from it. In fact, the audience for all his side projects are his fans from his work as an actor, especially as Fox Mulder. If he used a pseudonym, his books wouldn't be published and the band would get beaten up as soon as he sang the first song, people would want their tickets back. Some famous people came to his (very boring) podcast because they shared the same "scene" in the 90s and felt sorry for him. Well, Stiller did his part as a "friend", but he's not going to put Duchovny in any movie or series. Gillian Anderson couldn't wait to finish. And if he had to bring in Maggie Wheeler and, nothing against the girl, but seriously, Bree Sharp…? It's because things aren't good. Why was the show with Bree Sharp filmed in his house - which we know every detail of thanks to his Dixie Kong - and the show with Gillian recorded in a studio? You know what? Bree Sharp would be an excellent candidate for a girlfriend, she's even prettier than the girl he bought and keeps in his house for his own use.😊
I agree that David's side projects are a way to show that he's busy. But I think that with his "musical career" everything is much more complicated. It started out as a sweet hobby that Gillian, Tea and their children didn't mind supporting, but then, thanks to Brad and sugarbaby, it turned into a laughing stock, where an actor who can't sing embarks on a world music tour every few years and releases his fourth album. Brad gets his small profit, sugar baby can feel like a significant person, and David gets crazy delight from a couple hundred of his fans - this is what he has been missing in real life for a long time.
The podcast with Bree Sharp wasn't recorded at David's house. David was at home, and Bree was somewhere else. I think it was convenient for Gillian to record a podcast with David on neutral territory in order to avoid communicating with his obsessive girlfriend.
Bree doesn't fit the role of David's girlfriend. For all her talents, she's too old for David😂. She is already 49 years old.

A video that made me weirdly emotional, an interview about it that was released today, and the original video the first one was about.

I've never actually listened to the exFiles because I haven't seen the X Files but I feel like if Bree Sharp is doing the podcast rounds to promo the anniversary she should go on? I don't actually know if they're still doing the exFiles

It's day 3 of having the iconic 1999 song David Dechoveny Why Won't you love me stuck in my head because my mom was humming it. I have just learned that the X-files crew made a music video for it featuring other famous people who were often on set and in costume for other tv shows including Buffy and Jepordy. I shall handle this information the traditional way. By writing a fanfic about Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as a pair of private detectives in a lavender marriage in the 40s.

"The song is about David, but it's also about the way fantasy and reality blur," [Bree] Sharp says. "And how giddy, hot and excellent that can be."

I'm finding that each guest on his podcast is becoming more and more less interesting. I see that Lemonada has promoted Bree Sharp's upcoming episode, but how much interest can she create? I know she is part of the original Xfiles day and is a memory to the core group, but what can they truly talk about to make the episode truly interesting? Legit question. I heard her talk about her interview with David (very vaguely) and a little bit about her failure when she first started, but it's not enough to generate interest (for people like me at least. People who need interesting personalities, meat to bite into, more than superficial gratuitous happiness, and true meaningful conversations) to maintain my streaming click. She's a pleasant and bubbly personality and I have nothing against her. Will they address her song line "I want to kill Scully"?
Bottom line is that he in not interesting. It was a novelty at first, but he doesn't seem genuine. The time that he had the opportunity to truly show who he was when he spoke with friends, but he had his guard up. If he couldn't get Gillian to let her guard down and be her goofy self that we have seen in other interviews or when we have seen them together before, then we know that the genuine interaction/communication was either not there or was edited out. That was when I cancelled my subscription. I'll listen for free through other means.
I certainly am not interested in hearing about his faux appreciation of his groomed minion who was in pigtails and playing on the playground alongside his own daughter.
It was originally a failed podcast. David is not very suitable for the role of host. David and the studio don't have enough money, connections with the right people, and popularity for famous and interesting guests to want to join David's podcast. And, of course, the topic of the podcast was chosen very unsuccessful. Who is interested in the failures of popular artists in the distant past? Their failures have already been described a million times in tabloids and in interviews.
Bree Sharp is from the category of past stars. I think they'll be talking about her single "David Duchovny," they'll talk about the X-Files, maybe they'll remember "Californication", and maybe even sing together, but I doubt this podcast will be of interest to anyone other than fans of David, the X-Files, and Bree Sharp. Bree is funny and lively, so this podcast can be much better than the previous ones.
I've written more than once that Gillian has stopped being David's selfless friend. I think it happened after the Tribeca Festival, when Gillian was once again promoting David's film on her account and she didn't even get a simple "thank you" in response. So a boring podcast with Gillian is a pattern. Gillian no longer wants to play for free on David's side. I think it was Gillian's contract with the studio to bring attention to the dying podcast. But Gillian turned out to be smarter than both the studio and David. She came, indifferently fulfilled her role and left. And it didn't do the podcast any good.
David filmed the podcast from his home, so his "girlfriend" might appear in the background, and maybe even sing along with David and Bree.

HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK!!!
Look, as a teenager I mainlined the David Duchovny vid (and song - the video version is actually slightly longer than the album version)(yes that is my level of geekery and I will not be apologising!) so to see Hank Green: 1) talking about it and B) singing along with it at the end is like 🤯🤯🤯
So if you're an X-phile and you've seen the video and been meh, this explains the scientific nature of the whammy!
...
Now excuse me whilst I go sing to myself the song of my people. 😂😂😂
#the x-files#vlogbrothers#david duchovny#bree sharp#also her album was a decent debut album. the cheap and evil girl is still listened to in my house#i love this song this video and this vlogbrothers video#aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!#😂😂😂😍😍😍#Youtube

Every now and then you hear an album where you're just like... "Damn where has this been all my life."
That's me rn with Bree Sharp's A Cheap and Evil Girl. Is it the best album I've ever heard? Probably not. But damn it is great. Like yeah obviously David Duchovny is gonna grab my attention from the tracklist but no, this thing is packed with incredibly sharp nineties alt-rock tunes and I just... wow.
