Old faithful returned. This is my first wheel and it’s the one I loan out to artists who need one for a short time. A quick phone call and it came back to home to get me through my own tough spot. It is a sleeper too, the original motor died years ago and it got a high powered replacement. Well I guess it’s time to get it muddy again. #marchmeetthemaker Day 2 - How I started. . I started making pottery while attending college because my first plan for a major was a flop. After it became obvious that I was not meant to get a degree in nursing, I took art classes for a semester while trying to decide what my true calling for college was. While taking those classes I discovered a whole new world that I had no idea even existed. I knew people went to college for art but had no clue that it was something I was good enough at to major in! Wow how happy I was when I became immersed in art of all media! A level of joy I had never expected or experienced before. While I loved every art class I took, my pottery class became my favorite. Then discovering that ceramic art could be my major and my career...It was blissful! I got married the year after graduation and the first present my man bought me was a #brentwheel CXC! The best gift I had ever been given!!! I started making pottery in the guest room of our tiny rental house, then when we moved, I made pottery in the back of our garage. Then, when we moved again, I took up the whole 2 car garage. And now, we’ve moved again and I have an actual studio where I make, sell, and teach classes! Trimming plates always leads to a large amount of trimmings. Luckily these bison tools and this foam bat make quick work of plates. Now to keep my fingers crossed that I did it right and in time so that they don’t get s cracks. If they do into the recycle bucket with the trimmings they will go. I did do an undercut on these feet so they can hang on the wall when not in use. Made a dinner set for me and @kimberleybrandphotos. We've a serious lack of plates and bowls in the house so once I was finished trimming and finishing off the soap dishes i made a start on a dinner set for us. I must say my Brent wheel makes light work of plate making, so much easier than on my kick wheel! ✨Hands at work✨⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #marchmeetthemaker ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here are my hands in the process of throwing on the wheel. This is one of my favorite parts of working with clay. I find this to be soothing and my focus is on the object I am making. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ In this moment I am pulling the walls of the form up. I may alter the piece, add a handle, trim and sand the surface before it goes through a bisque fire. ⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣ My hands are very busy with the pieces I create.
