So the inspiration photo for this piece is an image of a neglected dog. The posture and the sadness in the eyes meant for me, of the hundreds of images I searched, there was no doubt this poor soul would be my next adoration. There are a few key challenges to creating this representation. One of which was the way the back legs hovered in a cowering position of unrest. I can't tell you how difficult I found this. I am new to armatures, and I don't use the wire twisting techniques I see often, as I am a wuss with power tools. Instead I used a combination of wire, tape, tension created by fabric straps, and counter balancing with weights. I will definitely have to work on improving my technique and planning, to avoid the re-works I had to with this one. Today’s job, buttonholes courtesy of this beast the Iron Duke aka the Reece 101. The only machine to mimic a hand stitched keyhole/eyelet button hole, complete with gimp thread, cut after sew. As with all my sculpture bases, the shapes are very simplified. The head for this new piece is quite sleek looking at the moment, but when finished the skin will be all droopy and rippled. My little Affenpinscher, who has been patiently waiting for his fur, decided to sneak in the photo. I think he is feeling a little left out. Does anyone else find that their shelved projects make them feel guilty? Happens to me all the time.
