The 2023 Guide to Beer at Citi Field
Tumblr media
While the Mets are in the midst of an utterly miserable early-season slide, the situation on the field leaves about as much to be desired as the beer situation at Citi Field. While for the past several years, there were dedicated kiosks to local craft beer at the stadium, the beer selection has devolved to be a mile wide and an inch deep — more availability across the stadium, but far fewer selections, and even fewer local ones.
Citi Field’s beer selection is largely dominated by Mets major sponsor MillerCoors, with the macro beers, Blue Moon original and Moon Haze, and the Vizzy and Topo Chico-branded seltzers all regularly available throughout the stadium. Boston Beer has a dominant presence this year, with both Dogfish Head (60 Minute IPA and SeaQuench) and Coney Island (Merman IPA, Mermaid Pilsner, and Beach Beer) widely available, but seemingly the only Sam Adams-branded product on offer is their N/A IPA, Just the Haze. Montauk Brewing, which got a big boost when they were acquired by cannabis company Tilray last year, is widely available, offering the Wave Chaser IPA and Summer Ale. Brooklyn Brewery, which has been available in fits and starts at Citi Field since its inception, has Lager, Summer Ale, Pulp Art IPA, and Pilsner this season — though the Pilsner was a hard find, spotted only on draft at Pig Beach behind section 135. Sloop Juice Bomb is one of the few returning craft beers this year, and there’s one new entrant: Glen Cove-based Garvies Point Brewing, who’s got cans of their Crescent Kolsch.
The big reason for the dearth of indie craft options this year: 16-ounce cans are gone from the stadium. It appears that Aramark, Citi Field’s concessionaire, required that any local or craft beer be sold in a 19.2-ounce can. Putting aside that 19.2 ounces is more IPA than I really want to drink, it’s an unreasonable ask for small breweries that would not typically have both the supply of cans and capability to can in that format. In past years, the Empire State Craft stands would exclusively offer 16-ounce cans at a fixed price point. And despite the average length of games being notably shorter this year, the beers are now sold to last longer (and, on hot days, probably get warm before you can finish them).
As far as pricing goes, not too much has changed. While the $14.25 16-ounce craft cans are gone, the handful of 19.2-ounce cans last season from Dogfish Head and Brooklyn were priced at $15.25 — the same price as this year. 24-ounce macro beers are still $15.50, and 24-ounce cans of Blue Moon and Leinenkugel Summer Shandy will continue to set you back $16.50.
Anyway, if you’re looking for the best beer selection on each level, here’s a quick and easy guide:
Field Level: Montauk Brewing stand behind section 128
Excelsior Level: the beer stand behind sections 301/302 on the Coca-Cola Porch
Promenade Level: the beer stand behind section 418 (where the Empire State Craft stand was in past seasons)
One notable omission from the beer list this year: EBBS Brewing Co., beer that’s quite literally brewed under Citi Field’s right field stands. Of course, you can still have their more reasonably-priced beers before and after the game at their taproom.

###
About Alewife Brewing Alewife Brewing is a small batch brewery located in the heart of the Sunnyside section of Queens, NY. We focus on brewing traditional and innovative styles of beer, using only the finest ingredients. Our goal is to provide a unique and enjoyable drinking experience for all who visit our taproom.
Alewife Brewing has fallen in love with the stories of ancient times and the roles women had in society. The peace they emulated through their beliefs and love towards nature and all species has inspired us to capture their magic in our beers and on our 16 oz. can labels. The latest historical findings suggest that wine was not the oldest elixir, but in fact, beer mixed with psychedelic substances used in shamanistic ceremonies dating back much further. Gathered and formulated, the Alewives were the makers of both spiritual and medicinal potions.
Through our journeys thus far in life, we’ve developed a deep love for ancient elixirs while brewing and traveling to learn ancient and modern techniques for exceptional beers brewed at our new home in Sunnyside, Queens.
Don't worry, it's just beer we make, no special additions!

Chicago Beer Pass: Out Of Towners
Tumblr media
youtube
Welcome to the Chicago Beer Pass: Your ticket to all the great beer events happening in and around Chicago.
On this episode of Chicago Beer Pass, Brad Chmielewski and Nik White have some cans of Duolandia from Hopewell Brewing. This beer was quite a surprise and might be one of the guy's favorite beers of 2024. If you see it in the store or at the brewery, give this one a try! Duolandia is a Country Lager brewed in collaboration with Wild East Brewing out of Brooklyn, NY. As the guys crush a few cans, they talk about where they would take some out-of-towners for a fun weekend of eating and drinking in Chicago.

July 11th, Homer
Was supposed to rain all day, but it never happened.
Started off with puppy play at the beach. Today Brooklyn decided she wanted to play in the water rather than just running around.
In the afternoon, we rode the bikes to east end avenue and then to the end of the bike path about 7 miles.
On the way back we stopped at Grace Ridge Brewery to taste beers. Enjoyed the Raspberry Blonde, Saison, and Vienna lager.
Tonight we went to the Pier 1 playhouse on the spit for the opening night of Adam's family values. Tiny playhouse and they did a great job.
Back home just before 11 and the sun was just thinking about setting.
Tomorrow supposedly is another rainy day, we will see.

Beer Processing Market Analysis, Key Trends, Growth Opportunities, Challenges and Key Players by 2032
Beer Processing Market Size Was Valued at USD 754.34 Billion in 2023 and is Projected to Reach USD 1082.99 Billion by 2032, Growing at a CAGR of 4.1 % From 2024-2032.
The oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage, beer is made by fermenting and extracting basic ingredients, mostly malted cereal grains and hops. Key variables are manipulated during the brewing process, which is essential to determining the variety and flavor of the beer. Laws all throughout the world specify requirements for the creation of beer, highlighting components like yeast, hops, and grain.
During the Industrial Revolution, the beer processing industry experienced a radical change when machinery was introduced, giving brewers more control over the process. Important contributions were made by inventions like the thermometer and saccharometer. Beer manufacturing techniques originated in Britain and extended throughout the world. The late 19th century saw advances in refrigeration technology, which made it possible to brew lager brews even in the summer.

Your 2024 Citi Field Beer Guide
Tumblr media
I went to Citi Field for a Mets game on Monday night. It’s a tradition that I do not just because I love baseball, but because I get to inform you, the readers, about the beer selection at the ballpark for the coming season. This game was a classic case of the Mets completely blowing it in the tenth inning. And speaking of blowing it, Citi Field management blew their opportunity to sell me a second beer at the game. After grabbing a quick Brooklyn Lager from near my section to watch the first few innings, I got up to scope out the beer selection, knowing that some new stuff was available for this season, like Allagash White and Threes Vliet, which happen to be two of my favorite beers.
I managed to find these beers, but completely behind lock and key, next to Fiddlehead IPA and Sloop Juice Bomb IPA at an unoccupied beer stand. In fact, every single stand that sold these beers — seven stands in all, on all levels of the stadium — was closed on Monday night. And yes, I realize it’s a Monday night in April and not every concession stand would be open. But in previous years, Citi Field at least made an effort to keep one stand with certain beers open during every game. Sometimes that meant trekking across the stadium just to buy the beer you want, but you could still at least buy the beer you wanted somewhere. This year, based on my experience on Monday, I can’t guarantee that’s going to be the case. If Citi Field is going to keep all these stands closed for weeknight games, then they need move these beers to other concession areas that are open for every game. The sad, closed Boozy Buckets stand at section 131, where you can buy cans of Threes Vliet when it’s open
Anyway, if you’re lucky enough to get to a game when these stands are open, you’ll find Allagash, Fiddlehead, Sloop, and Brooklyn Summer at three generic-looking beer stands on the upper deck and the Coca-Cola Porch branded with Coors Light, Blue Moon, and Peroni, plus on the field level behind sections 114 and 129 in Coney Island and Montauk-branded booths. Threes Vliet is available in cans at two stands called “Boozy Buckets,” which are behind sections 131 and 418.
Tumblr media
Generally, throughout the ballpark, the bigger regional beer brands are easy to find. You’ll find Boston Beer’s Coney Island on draft at some concession stands and sister brand Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA fairly regularly available in cans. Brooklyn Brewery’s Lager and Pulp Art Hazy IPA are hard to miss, too, even showing up in the large Coors Light-branded bars behind home plate in the upper deck and in center field. Montauk Beer Co.’s Summer and Wave Chaser, along with other offerings, can be found in many of the grab-and-go beer stands.
The beer selection in the more exclusive club seating areas is significantly better, and features a long lineup of draft beers. The Clover Home Plate Club, accessible to those sitting in the seats behind home plate, has a bar offering 20 draft options like Ghost East Coast Ghost, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Montauk The Surf Beer, and EBBS Kolsch No. 2, in addition to many of the previously mentioned beers only available in cans elsewhere in the ballpark.
Non-alcoholic beer options are becoming increasingly common, and this year, you’ll find Blue Moon’s N/A, Sam Adams Just the Haze, and Montauk’s Non-Alcoholic IPA throughout the park in 12-ounce cans.
Not surprisingly, you’ll pay a pretty penny for these beers. 19.2-ounce cans, the preferred sizing in much of Citi Field, will run you $16.05 plus tax. A 20-ounce draft pour of Coney Island, Brooklyn, or Montauk will run you $14.55 plus tax. That’s still under a dollar an ounce (looking at you, Boston), but not by much.
A side note: I realize that IPAs are still generally the best selling style of craft beer, but can we get a little diversity in the beer lineup, please? How many different variations of light-bodied, pale, hoppy beers do we really need? There’s no possible way we’re going to get a stout into Citi Field (though Oracle Field in San Francisco serves Guinness), but a couple more craft lagers or anything with a little more body for the colder months of the season would be nice. That being said, I’m absolutely thrilled about Allagash White this season, and I’m legitimately impressed that was able to get cleared in a ballpark full of Blue Moon taps.
The complete beer list is below, noting which beers are only available in club seating areas:
Allagash White Brooklyn Lager Brooklyn Pilsner* Brooklyn Pulp Art Hazy IPA Brooklyn Summer Ale Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner Coney Island Merman IPA Dogfish Head Citrus Squall* Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA EBBS Kolsch No. 2* Fiddlehead IPA Founders All Day IPA Ghost East Coast Ghost NEIPA* Gutenberg IPA Lagunitas IPA Montauk Juicy IPA Montauk Summer Ale Montauk The Surf Beer* Montauk Watermelon Montauk Wave Chaser IPA New Belgium Fat Tire Ale* Samuel Adams Summer Ale* Sierra Nevada Pale Ale* Sloop Juice Bomb IPA Threes Vliet Pilsner
