The new layout alreadyt sucked but now the mass update seems to have also jsut broken my entire dash and made all the user icons grey boxes great website super functional guys
hey did you know that the "new" layout is literally jsut the mobile browser site? like 1 to fucking 1 the same layout theyve had for like 3 years? They didn't actually steal it from twitter they stole of frim their barely functional mobile browser i know this because i am one of 2 people in the world who uses it instead of the app

(@amorfati-rp Agares) She approaches the dragon quizzically. "You seem....different from the dragons I've heard about. How come you're so different?"
::THE GREEN DRAGON
Of all the people of the village who could have approached it, it was the half-elf girl that was most unexpected. That girl, always flitting to and fro. Back from her home, across the village, into the forest and out again to the wells - it was understandable. To the dragon's knowledge, she was without a father, she and those two brothers of hers. The priest had been happy to share the news of a pregnancy in the village, one directly attributed to that girl's mother, and so it could only be expected that weight be put on the eldest's shoulders. Even so... Similar to most residents of a grown age, the half-elf named Agares didn't press herself with coming too close to it most days, if ever. For some, it was merely their way of showing respect to a being as powerful as a dragon, no matter how diminished its powers had become in its old age. They didn't wish to bother it, and the dragon didn't mind - as a matter of fact, the gesture was appreciated some days when the pain had become overwhelming and it remained incapable of doing much else than simply laying with closed eyes. There were others, however, who feared the Green Dragon and its watchful rest over the village, that whatever gossip or slander spoken in its presence would be taken and relayed to the priest. Of course, it had enjoyed listening to all sounds of the confined, bustling life inside the forest's walls - but it could hardly be thought of as anything more than simple interest and adoration. These worries that came from those humans were stemmed from fear. Fear from their old home, fear from the very same mistakes that had led them there - it could hardly bear any resentment against that. Still, the priest hadn't been the dragons only company, much to its relief. The children, covered in dirt from their play, flocked to it nigh constantly despite their parent's lectures, climbing and shouting... It was a painful, but rewarding feeling. Most had never seen a dragon before, and paid little mind to the weakened form in distraction of the awe of its great wings and coiled tail. For those too shy to approach, it typically could afford to open its eyes enough to gaze back at the child, a cause of excitement for many. In these times, the priest would typically stay by its side, keeping careful watch ensure that the pain wouldn't grow too much, nor that any child ran astray. And from the shadows of the trees, that was when it had typically picked up on her presence. Not with the other adults, but staring from afar. Neither an adult nor a child, as the dragon had understood it, but still - far more child than adult. Those eyes were never settled on it, but rather, the priest besides it. In a way, that feeling of "Love" no matter how misplaced was the closest she had gotten to womanhood. Most others her age had already been married, or were much too caught up in their own affairs to afford the luxury of such needless pining and delusions. It was an obsession, one regarded with the same nonchalance as the dragon had with all affairs of the village, and so remained an unspoken secret between the two. It could tell it clearly; she meant no harm. She simply didn't know what to do. It was unexpected, then, that she had saw it. It was with the same bravery and innocent curiosity of a child that she had approached the resting dragon, and only after those words were spoken did it began to stir. Beyond the priest, the dragon didn't care to speak to anyone, simply preferring to watch their lives and interactions without its interference. And in those rare moments it did have something to say, it was always through him that those thoughts were conveyed. And this girl... There wasn't anything special about her. At least, not that commanded it's attention - she was a villager, a simple but precious existence it had seen years and years before. The dragon knew she would get along well without the need for words. Dulled, yellow eyes rolled open to stare drearily up towards her, and a long, tired sigh was its answer.

Absolutely. There was a brief period of time (I want to say around 2010 give or take a few years) where it ate RAM like it was going out of style. I think there was also a major memory leak issue that compounded it, especially if you were someone with dozens of tabs and you never closed your browser.
Chrome was faster and more streamline during this period and Google was still considered a good company.
But Firefox has been fast and less resource-heavy than Chrome for years now. And that's with modern web design pushing massive splash pages of pictures and videos that can be slow to load and lag your browser/system.
Firefox has also since added a lot of features that used to be only native to Chrome/Brave. You can also get add-ons to speed up web pages even more.
But it's not a browser issue if you leave a browser open for days/weeks/months with dozens of tabs, that's a skill issue.
"Firefox sucks" "firefox is clunky" "firefox doesn't work" with all due respect what the fuck are you talking about

I'm a huge fan of Chrome pushing things like anti-AdBlock and now a genAI update, it only gives me more reason to move off their awful browser

A couple of years ago I did a course of CBT sessions funded by the NHS. One of the things I was struggling with was my sleep schedule (that was consistently much closer to 6 am - 4 pm than anything more reasonable). She said that 1. if you can't drift off after 15 (!!!) minutes of trying then you should do something else until you feel sleepy again and 2. if the sleep schedule really is fucked. If you can't go to sleep at the right time and you can't wake up in the morning. It might be time to consider the factory reset all-nighter.
My sleep schedule, such as it was, has slipped to such an extent that I'm writing this at 6:45 am. I am beginning to think I need to perform another factory reset.

As a reminder, all these adblockers still work fine on chrome. This is not a chrome issue, it's a YouTube issue and an extension issue.
I don't care what browser people like best, but I draw the line at actual lies or obscuring reality. Making up browser problems for things that have nothing to do with them is weak.
Also, there ARE other adblockers out there. Adblock and ublock are both great. Some are handling the YouTube problem faster and more flexibly than others. Some extensions work better on certain sites, aka ublock is NOT the only one you can or should use.
Do NOT take the word of ANYONE pushing a single browser or single extension on you. There is not only one option or even only one best option.

You're more amazing than lineart
You're more amazing than tag blocking
#fa added tag blocking yesterday!#but only for the modern theme...#which would be fine if the modern theme didn't have a bunch of little annoyances#navigation bars that follow you when you scroll down are the devil#like fuck off! stop following me! if i want to use you then i'll just scroll up it's not that hard#they're called sticky navbars or fixed navbars#i actually messed around with the html and css and found the part that makes it sticky and turned it off#but making a whole browser extension just to make modern theme slightly less bad isn't worth it#other Various Annoyances: the giant raccoon art at the top of every page that pushes the rest of the page down#the submission titles don't turn blue after you've clicked on them so you can't tell which pics you've already clicked#the minigallery on submission pages is awful because they copied deviantart's layout which was not designed for a minigallery#the minigallery thumbnails are cropped more than they need to be which i think might be just straight-up a mistake#also there's a really easy way they could've partially implemented keyword blocking. REALLY easy#the search feature already has a method to exclude results that contain a certain keyword(s)#so just let users make a list of blocked keywords and then alter all their searches to use that method to exclude the keywords#literally just add “-(@keywords blocked_keyword_example)” for each keyword. just take the search string and append that. easy#it'd only work on searches but it would've been so fucking easy but that's irrelevant now#ka asks

Do you have thoughts about the changes to Firefox's Terms of Use and Privacy Notice? A lot of people seem to be freaking out ("This is like when google removed 'Don't be evil!'"), but it seems to me like just another case of people getting confused by legalese.
Yeah you got it in one.
I've been trying not to get too fighty about it so thank you for giving me the excuse to talk about it neutrally and not while arguing with someone.
Firefox sits in such an awful place when it comes to how people who understand technology at varying levels interact with it.
On one very extreme end you've got people who are pissed that Firefox won't let you install known malicious extensions because that's too controlling of the user experience; these are also the people who tend to say that firefox might as well be spyware because they are paid by google to have google as the default search engine for the browser.
In the middle you've got a bunch of people who know a little bit about technology - enough to know that they should be suspicious of it - but who are only passingly familiar with stuff like "internet protocols" and "security certificates" and "legal liability" who see every change that isn't explicitly about data anonymization as a threat that needs to be killed with fire. These are the people who tend not to know that you can change the data collection settings in Firefox.
And on the other extreme you've got people who are pretty sure that firefox is a witch and that you're going to get a virus if you download a browser that isn't chrome so they won't touch Firefox with a ten foot pole.
And it's just kind of exhausting. It reminds me of when you've got people who get more mad at queer creators for inelegantly supporting a cause than they are at blatant homophobes. Like, yeah, you focus on the people whose minds you can change, and Firefox is certainly more responsive to user feedback than Chrome, but also getting you to legally agree that you won't sue Firefox for temporarily storing a photo you're uploading isn't a sign that Firefox sold out and is collecting all your data to feed to whichever LLM is currently supposed to be pouring the most bottles of water into landfills before pissing in the plastic bottle and putting the plastic bottle full of urine in the landfill.
The post I keep seeing (and it's not one post, i've seen this in youtube comment sections and on discord and on tumblr) is:
Well-meaning person who has gotten the wrong end of the stick: This is it, go switch to sanguinetapir now, firefox has gone to the dark side and is selling your data. [Link to *an internet comment section* and/or redditor reactions as evidence of wrongdoing].
Response: I think you may be misreading the statements here, there's been an update about this and everything.
Well-meaning (and deeply annoying) person who has gotten the wrong end of the stick: If you'd read the link you'd see that actually no I didn't misinterpret this, as evidenced by the dozens of commenters on this other site who are misinterpreting the ToU the same way that I am, but more snarkily.
Bud.
Anyway the consensus from the actual security nerds is "jesus fucking christ we carry GPS locators in our pockets all goddamned day and there are cameras everywhere and there is a long-lasting global push to erode the right to encrypt your data and facebook is creating tracking accounts for people who don't even have a facebook and they are giving data about abortion travel to the goddamned police state" and they could not be reached for comment about whether Firefox is bad now, actually, because they collect anonymized data about the people who use pocket.
My response is that there is a simple fix for all of this and it is to walk into the sea.
(I am not worried about the updated firefox ToU, I personally have a fair amount of data collection enabled on my browser because I do actually want crash reports to go to firefox when my browser crashes; however i'm not actually all that worried about firefox collecting, like, ad data on me because I haven't seen an ad in ten years and if one popped up on my browser i'd smash my screen with a stand mixer - I don't care about location data either because turning on location on your devices is for suckers but also *the way the internet works means unless you're using a traffic anonymizer at all times your browser/isp/websites you connect to/vpn/what fucking ever know where you are because of the IP address that they *have* to be able to see to deliver the internet to you and that is, generally speaking, logged as a matter of course by the systems that interact with it*)
Anyway if you're worried about firefox collecting your data you should ABSOLUTELY NOT BE ON DISCORD OR YOUTUBE and if you are on either of those things you should 100% be using them in a browser instead of an app and i don't particularly care if that browser is firefox or tonsilferret but it should be one with an extension that allows you to choose what data gets shared with the sites it interacts with.

after a long break (i graduated LOL) the media tag continues....
the dragon knights (+ granblue fantasy, kind of)
my fascination with fantasy knights led me down the slippery slope that is a 10-year-old g*cha (i'm squarely remaining f2p do NOT worry about me.) shoutout to the gbf wiki and people who upload the side stories to youtube because that's how i have been able to access more than half of the content in the first place. the parenthetical is like that because i really honed in on the knights before giving a shit about the main story or any other content LMAO...
oh i'm supposed to say something about them. i like knights in theory + in fiction. so these guys (except percival) were kind of engineered in a lab to get me. siegfried was the one who lured me in initially but i think vane's development over the series has been the most interesting. i have complicated feelings about lancelot and his weird characterization. also sorry for yapping in tags it's much ado about nothing down there.
