The (Disputable) Macdonald Hall Timeline:

since the dawn of time, fans of this niche canadian book series have been plagued by Gordon Korman’s insistence on making the boys time at school timeless, and by proxy, providing no clear passage of time. at all.

wikipedia helpfully provides the only indication of age is “too young to shave” but technically, this isn’t true. in that same book (This Can’t Be Happening) Boots indeed recalls “his Grade 8 field trip” which would imply they are in grade 9.

this is literally impossible.

i was personally driven insane by this notion.

so, i decided to make an obviously entirely factual timeline for all 7 books in the franchise (and graduation for fun because they don’t mention it in book 7, which means it’s not their last year yet) based on comments made throughout the story.

the START dates for the books are all absolutely accurate, but the length is a little fishy (pardon the pun) because unfortunately they almost never confirm how long it’s been since the start of the book by the end.

the holiday dates are based off of the modern toronto school calendar as well as me asking people i know who went to school in canada in the early 80s so while they may not be EXACT, they’re as close as we’re gonna get.

so without further ado, bruno and boots antics now helpfully provided with dates:

feel free to send an ask if you want to see any of my evidence for the start of books that AREN’T right after summer or the length of certain stories cause i’d be happy to tell you!

and yes i did use apple calendar for this, i think it makes me look even more insane and that’s pretty funny

sometimes i read bruno/boots fic and half-convince myself that there’s no possible way that b&b were really that obsessed with each other in canon and then i reread the joke’s on us/something fishy and:

they are, in fact, that obsessed with each other

I finally watched “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish”, and these are my outputs…

Of course, I will always be a diehard fan of the MacDonald Hall (Bruno & Boots) BOOKS, but I recently gave the movies a try. So this is a list of stuff that stuck out to me ig, although it could also be just as accurately titled "An essay on why this show is gay and Bruno/Boots is OTP."

(All of these are from Go Jump in the Pool, I haven't watched beyond that yet...)

"McDonald Hall without Bruno and Boots is like the North Pole without Santa and Ms.Claus." Bruno says and both turn to each other immediately and should "I'm Santa!" Both more bothered by who is the guy (which is interesting to me since Bruno in the same movie dresses up as George's AUNT) and not that Bruno just compared them to a married couple.

At the swim meet, moments after Boots has been kissed by Diane, he's looking into the stands and who does he make eye contact with? Not the girl who just kissed him and he (presumably) likes back, he looks at Bruno.

Bruno never doubts himself, never questions his plans, never spirals, until Boots tells him he'd be better off without him. And even though Boots immediately takes it back, the damage is done. And Bruno starts to spiral at the meet as Boots falls behind because he finally confronts the idea of losing Boots, really losing Boots for the first time and realized Bruno isn't better off without Boots, even if Boots might be better off without Bruno.

I forgot to actually write it down as I watched it but that moment where Boots is on the phone with his parents and finds out that he's staying and Bruno rushes out to tell him that !they got the pool! is adorable.

(I excluded all my "it was different in the book!!" notes, because this post would be way too long otherwise.)

I had already done a collage of Goldilocks and Isabela that was also inspired by their drawing of Isabella as Goldi, it made sense to also do one on Bruno and Death.
