bsd ch. 108 spoilers ahead !!!!
okay, so, i wanna do an actual discussion aside from the incoherent screaming last night so if anyone wants to hear my thoughts, enjoy
the thing i'm most curious about it this:
because it seems so real. his eyes light up and his expression changes so drastically it's actually horrifying.
and yeah, he says he faked it later but how do we know which fyodor to trust? cause he might very well be lying, saying he faked it, to cover up the fact that his "other self" broke through to the surface for a second.
and the way his ability acted in dead apple...
idk but having him actually be crime and punishment, be the evil that's done and then also the suffering and guilt of that evil, both coexisting, a constant fight between the killer and his conscience contained within one conflicted person so divided that those two aspects of him literally split - art. pure art.
or, equally terrifying, he's just that good of an actor and liar. which means nothing he says ever can be taken at face value and he's such a master manipulator that he's not only deceiving characters within the plot but the audience as well and there's no way of telling what's what anymore. help.
either way - i adore him as a character. he's one of the most interesting and compelling antagonists i've ever seen.
(also i need to know where the fuck nikolai is going to fit into all of this because i'm beyond making predictions at this point)
and then, of course, there's this:
i have no coherent thoughts. it's all just sobbing.
god, i love them.
akutagawa is my favorite character too so...yeah, this shit hurt
(just imagine me at 2am yesterday, curled up in bed, sobbing as that bit of 'i bet on losing dogs' that goes "my baby, my baby..." just repeatedly plays in my head)

BSD Theories (Part 2/???)
NOTE: some, if not all of my theories could potentially contradict eachother; it is highly unlikely they will align but if so I will link the previous related theory to the analysis.
(this is not one of those theories)
Fyodors existence
!Contains spoilers for BSD!
-
As of reading chapter 108, I have come to realize the similarities between Fyodor and Sigma
That being, mysterious place of origin, an ability that is generally unique to them, and most importantly, a specific personality that is set and doesn't seem to change all that much as we follow them through their perspectives
And with that, the logical conclusion of the possibility Fyodor could be of The Book, like Sigma.
The evidence that supports that being,
- the lack of a background
As stated long before the events of chapter 108, it seems there are no actual records of Fyodor's existence; such a statement could reasonably mean that up until some point, he just didn't exist at all; only appearing after a specific point and for specific reason.
Though one could reasonably assume he just had a childhood of seclusion where he didn't have the necessary requirements or necessity to be on some sort of record, it is unlikely he would be completely without any form of documentation as people say his existence has been thus far.
- unique ability
As I have brought up in previous theories, Fyodor as an extremely unique ability. One that seems specific to him, as others do not know how it works, and how it isn't similar to any other abilities that exist within the BSD universe, where abilities of similar form or function appear to be commonplace. Such a quality could be explained if Fyodor was created via The Book. An ability created specifically to fit a weapon bent on destroying humanity. What is also important to note is how there are many abilities out there that have the chance to potentially harm someone, should the wielder desire it, but have no direct and immediate means of causing harm (as far as we are aware of). Fyodor's ability is unique in that, where no matter how you look at it, his ability is exclusive to killing with no chance of survival or reversal.
As an example, Demon Snow, Kyouka's ability, could also be used as a helper, and does more than just slaughter enemies (fetching things for Kyouka, as an example) in short, despite killing being a major quality that certain abilities can be useed for, it is often never so direct, as Fyodor's ability is.
- personality and desires
A core part of Fyodor's personality and the characteristics that are prominent when watching other characters interact with him is that he is extremely driven to his goals, manipulative and reserved. As far as the viewers are aware, such qualities have not changed over the course of his existence in the BSD series. Something like that could be explained if his personality was pre-set to be driven to accomplish the desires of the holder of The Book.
While this might seem far fetched, the specific qualities Fyodor possesses fit together perfectly to create a person who could easily and practically effortlessly accomplish his goals. If Fyodor wasn't motivated to the self detrimental extreme he is, the likelihood of his success would be diminished significantly. If Fyodor didn't posses the (practically) unmatched intelligence and intellect he is known so widely for, his plans and schemes wouldn't go off without a hitch. Even when there is a failure in the system, he predicts it and plans for every scenario to guarantee his own success in the long term. All of his actions reminiscent of a meticulously created machine.
Similar to Fyodor, Sigma possess specific qualities that appar to be set and seldom change, even as his character develops. Even despite his desire to change and join the ADA to do something for the world, there is still a desire to change the world in some way.
Sigma has, since his creation, worked relentlessly to achieve some sort of goal that would then change how the world functions in one way or another; and even after his decision to alter how exactly he wants to change things, he is still following the set design of his person. A dedicated and highly motivated individual who has a desire to change the world.
Circling back to Fyodor, he follows the same general formula, just to a greater extreme; therefore it is entirely possible he was created via The Book.
-unkown age
A common mystery and speculation about Fyodor is his age. Though many different numbers have been thrown about and circled through, there has never been a confirmation on his actual age (to my knowledge)
One of the reasons his age is such a topic of speculation is how it appears his physical appearance changes very little, despite his seeming to have been around for quite some time.
During the 'Untold Origins' arc (Ranpo and Fukuzawa origins) we get a glimpse of Fyodor standing atop a building, with an appearance that is seemingly unchanged from how he currently looks. Though many could blame the style he is drawn in, even Fukuzawa appears to have aged from that point, after all, it has been several years. Such a thing could potentially be a product of his not actually being a true human being, though due to the current lack of evidence this part of the theory is just calculated speculation.
To summarize, the mysterious air surrounding Fyodor's existence aligns quite similarly with that of Sigma, a being of The Book; meaning that his mysterious background, unique ability, personality and potentially even unchanging appearance could be because he is also of The Book.

BSD Volume 23 Cover Analysis
Hello! Today I will analyze the book new cover.
!SPOILERS BELOW!
In the front, there's Atsushi, confidently raising his hand up. He looks decisive, and so he will try his best to save the world and to return people's trust to ADA. Behind him, there's a white sheet of paper ripped on its edge, which partly covers the face of another person. They look very similar to Kenji, and both of them have freckles. If the character actually is Kenji, then the page might symbolize him starting to rewrite his life entirely on a blank piece of paper after joining the Armed Detective Agency. Yet, if it is a new character, then it could mean that their story in the manga has just begun. The plants (I'm not sure exactly which plants they are) are white and are near those characters. They signify Atsushi and the other characters' hope for better.
On the very back of the drawing, there is paper used for writing. It indicates that everything shown in front of it is happening in the manga, and if the Book will be used again, its whole plot can change with a single blink. The light purple color of the sheet contrasts with the warm color palette for Atsushi and ?Kenji?. Even though the world of the BSD can be cruel, the characters will stay on the bright side and will fight no matter what. Likewise, it might mean that in the story, the good will always defeat the evil.
Futhermore, there are petals on the book cover. When a flower is dying, its petals are falling down. Chuuya and Akutagawa are drawn on them, meaning that in the current moment they are not alive or are in a life-threatening situation. Near the red petals on the book cover, we can see blood splashes. Also, we can see that Chuuya is wiping blood from his face. Those parts of the illustration are implying that both Port Mafia members became vampires.
The locations of the petals and ?Kenji's? face with shirt form a cross shape, as you can see on the image below. Atsushi's face is placed where both lines intersect each other. Hence, he might play an essential role in the upcoming chapters and might be able to find a way to stop Fukuchi.

In Storm Bringer Dazai said poison was Chuuya's weakness. Now combine it with the theories that Chuuya will drink Dazai's blood alongside with the poison in his veins.
I absolutely believe Chuuya will survive tho, so maybe that poison will help him get rid of the vampirism 👀? Since Dazai knows that about Chuuya and might use it in order to unvampire him.

a wild thought BUT imagine when Chuuya wakes up from the vampirism he'll say something to Fyodor to piss him off and that something will be about his and Dazai's partnership. aka Chuuya will finally call them partners, like Dazai (and Fyodor) does, instead of ex-partners like he always does...

Day ?: I’m still thinking about chapter 108.
I was supposed to post this a week ago, oops.
A lot of people, after chapter 108 dropped, appeared to assume that the “revelation” about Fyodor in this chapter was just a ruse, as Fyodor claims it to be. Personally, I don’t think it’s that simple, and I wanted to talk a little about it.
I should note that this isn’t really a theory or an analysis, just my initial impressions. And I guess we’ll find out pretty soon if I was close to the mark or not. Next chapter? Too much to hope?
I think that this was real:

But everything from this point was fake, or at least was Fyodor acting:

If it is true that Fyodor - the real Fyodor - has been controlled by his Ability this entire time, his breakdown after Sigma showed him the note was a moment when his real self, his real consciousness, took over. The sudden change in him is profound and shocking. His eyes look so different, and we know that eyes are important in BSD.
Then we get the POV break, however, and when we return Fyodor starts giving us some "explanation”...and then this happens:

The moment we return to Fyodor and Sigma after the second POV break, I think Fyodor had been “taken over” again and was acting. But I don’t think he was acting from the beginning, nor do I think that everything he said even when he was “acting” was necessarily false.
There are a couple of reasons for this. First, it’s too out-there a reveal for me to believe it was a complete swerve. It really came out of absolutely nowhere, and then it’s all just lies? I don’t know, I find that hard to swallow.
Then there’s the matter of the note. If it was Fyodor that wrote it - why? Just for this silly ruse? Sure, he certainly could have predicted the entire course of events that led up to Sigma confronting him with a gun and laid the trap, that’s just what he does, but even for Fyodor that seems a bit much. Was it not Fyodor that wrote it, then? But who else would have written a note in Russian that says “help me”? Nikolai? What for? That seems like it’d be very out of character for him.
There’s also what Fyodor says after his breakdown. “What year is it?” What kind of question is that to ask if you’re pretending to be under the control of your Ability? Wouldn’t something like “Where am I?” or “Who are you?” be more fitting? Considering that Fyodor’s age and the nature of his Ability has been kept a secret for so long, this line really sticks out to me as important.
Not to mention, there was this in the previous chapter:

I don’t think it’s insignificant that Sigma is the one to say this, the one to bring this question up for the first time, rather than Dazai or Nikolai. Sigma is himself a character that could be considered not fully human. He was created from the Book, which itself is suggested to have been created by an Ability. Sigma’s origin, too, then, is tied directly to Abilities. It makes a certain amount of sense for him to be the one to realize that there’s something off about Fyodor, or at least for him to be the first one to confront Fyodor about it.
We know from 55 Minutes and Dead Apple that Abilities can take on a life of their own and even subsume the personalities of the original bearer. In 55 Minutes, Jules Verne’s Ability absorbs his personality and lives on; in Dead Apple, Shibusawa’s Ability lives on after his death, with no memory of his death and no knowledge that it is an Ability. Some Abilities, like Mori’s, naturally are manifest as separate personalities, though Mori has control over Elise.
Speaking of Dead Apple, there’s this famous scene:
“Even in the midst of the fog, my special ability did not turn against me like the others. Do you know why that is? I am crime. I am punishment. Did you not know? Crime and punishment are close acquaintances.”
Maybe this is more literal than I thought. Maybe there really are two Fyodors - in a sense. The real Fyodor - the “crime” - and his Ability - the “punishment.”
I do not, however, think that a “split personality” is really the “true” nature of Fyodor’s Ability. I think it’s probably more complicated than that. Abilities are extensions of their bearers, after all; Elise does not really have a distinct personality except what Mori gives her, and Shibusawa’s Ability had his personality and his desires.
Which makes me wonder - if this is true, and if the Fyodor we know really is the real Fyodor’s Ability, how much of his desires, his perception of himself and of the world, and especially of Abilities, is his own, and how much of it came from the real Fyodor?
I have a whole rant about Dostoevsky and Fyodor’s character I’ll post if this all turns out to be true, but for now here’s a quote from Demons: “I also know that it was not you who ate the idea, but the idea that ate you...”
Another reason why I don’t buy that this is all a lie is that we’ve had no other red herrings about either the nature of Fyodor’s Ability, his character, or his past before this. It’s all just been subtle hints. It’s very odd that there would suddenly be a massive red herring now, so far into the series and so far into the DOA arc.
Of course, Asagiri could absolutely be trolling us. Who knows? Maybe in less than a month we’ll find out Fyodor really does deserve an Oscar. I wouldn’t even be mad, because he should have already won an award for that performance when he was arrested in the café.
