I'm never stopping from being obsessed with how the writers for Buffy said to James Marsters "ok Spike doesn't know the difference between heartbreak, arousel, pain and love and you need to express that".
And James did, he picked up the challenge that they layed at his feet and fucking ran with it, he never stopped running until they forced him to stop.

“I’m a Buffy/Spike shipper,” says Whedon. “I always felt like he was a more evolved person, but that’s like saying Juliet’s going to be so happy with Benvolio and everyone will love it. Buffy/Angel is for the ages; Buffy/Spike is maybe for me."
Can never decide what's funnier about this quote. Whedon inventing some kind of reality where Spuffy isn't popular in order to justify all the ways he's fucked them over (he did it for the FANS, you guys!), or him using BENVOLIO as his Spike equivalent when Mercutio is RIGHT THERE and clearly such a better fit.
Of course, Mercutio is basically universally acknowledged as the most interesting character in R&J, so one can see why he wouldn't want to invite that comparison.

something that makes me go so feral about That Scene in After Life (the first scene on the stairs) is the fact that Spike just instinctively knows--he just fucking knows--to ask Buffy "How long was it for you?" wherever she was. I don't think anyone else in the Scoobies ever thinks of this, even when they realize she wasn't in hell. This is power of Spike's emotional intelligence and his ability to analyze and why I think he's such a perfect match for Buffy; he considers the angles nobody else does and that meshes very well with someone like Buffy, who does so much to obfuscate what she's feeling a lot of the time. He's very good at seeing around her masks and piercing through the walls she puts up.
